I have had data on for a huge chunk of this time and played shadow gun for 10 minutes. I'm over locked to 1300 Max 800 Min on ondemmand. Auto brightness, disabled auto sync, and all the other tricks you can think of. With data off I can pull off an extra 6 hours without games. What is this horse s**t?

Nexus S - CyberGR Hybrid ICS (5), Matrix Kernel (15.5)
Try Eugene kernel with luzuactive. I am having good battery life with that.

That seems fairly normal to me on ICS; maybe even better than what I can get. I can only get about 2.5 hours of on screen time + 20 hours idling.
You have about 4 hours on on screen time and no idling. Seems about right.
However on Gingerbread you could probably pull off more on-screen usage.

Does NS Tools work with that? I want to keep my BLN and Deep Idle . And can you point me in the direction of the kernel
***** EDIT: Nvm found it, going to try it. It does work with NS Tools says the dev and users of the ROM

I was able to get a lot more out of it a week ago... The same things I do now I could do for 4-7 (+some off screen use...) hours, off screen would be MUCH better... It just suddenly stopped being good. ICS wasn't always this bad lol
For starters your min is 800 MHz.... What the heck?! Who needs that? I'm sure that and being OC'd to 1300 hurts too.

So should I drop all the way down to 100, or go for 200 or 400? 100 seems blegh to me. I'm thinking of 200? I am however keeping the 1300 . If I must I'll go down to 1200.
Kernel is definitely not the problem. I've ran matrix before and its had some of the best battery life.
Problem is with your 800mhz min. You definitely don't need that. Run it at 200 and the difference won't be that significant.

Okay thanks . So I'm going to go for 1200 / 100 on the speedy 7 kernel (lulzactive)... Good? If it works out eventually I'll switch back to Matrix 15.5 and see the difference. I've heard Trinity is very good
Just waiting on a full charge will post results when they come in. I'll be doing some very heavy usage because that's what I'm concerned about.
P.S. I've enabled Auto-Brightness after "re-thinking" the advantages to it in terms of battery use + screen visibility.
With smartassv2/sio on CyberGR & Eugene kernel I'm getting the best battery performance I've had ever since I put on ICS. At this rate I can hit 3 days idling. With heavy usage, probably 6-8 hours? Try it.

I'll try it on lulzactivev2 first. Isn't lulactivev2 better than smartassv2 ? Every site I go to with information regarding governors tells me something else lol. Except ondemand that's the only one that has had a consistent definition.

Set min freq to 200 first off. 800 min is way too high if you want to save battery.
Secondly leave deep idle turned off, it doesn't do anything on ics.
check out bedalus battery drain comparison.
I get around 4 hours of screen on time for about 12-14hrs on battery.
I also undervolt more than the kernels are already undervolted.

I already have a 100 min on-going so I don't want to mess up the test . Afterwards I'll do 200. As for deep idle the option on my NS Tools has mysteriously vanished so I won't be able to enable it either way . I'm not going to touch under voltage I don't know much about over clocking (besides it speeds up your phone) as is. Lol rather not get into another hole

I read somewhere that 200 is better than 100 bit the only way to know is to try it out!
That's coz speedy doesn't have deep idle. Nstools doesn't show options the kernel doesn't have.
Well if you wanna try undervolting just uncheck set at boot in nstools.
Then search for stock nexus s voltages and see what they are and then look see what yours are and work from there.
The worst that will happen is that your phone will reboot but it will boot into the kernels stock voltages because you unchecked set at boot! No harm done!
Are you running the kernel with the 65 fps hack or no?

I've recently bought a G2 and am thinking of overclocking it. Currently, its not even rooted yet, and I am quite new to all this.
Tried running Smartbench 2010 and got 1033 for the productivity index and 1380 for the games index. (Nexus One using CM6 seems to get 1000/1000). What kind of scores do you get when overclocked?
I recommend downloading linpack and quadrant standard
using linpack i got 36 mflops stock, now I get about 50 at 1.5 ghz
quadrant stock I got about 1600 and overclocked I get about 2500
flash content runs a lot better overclocked IMHO
Thanks for the response.
I looked at Quadrant but many people seem to say that the result is not great due to its heavy reliance on the file i/o speeds. Linpack seems to mainly stress the floating point speed of the processor.
Could you try running Smartbench on yours? At what clock speed are you running your phone?
I run 1.5 ghz overclocked
Running CM6, with stock speed of 800mhz, I get 988 and 1367
Overclocked to 1.5ghz, I get 1679 and 2121
Looks like G2 scales quite well! Has anyone gotten higher stable clock?
benching you see a difference but i do not notice anything else being faster. The phone is already fast.
Agreed. But when I do push my G2 to the limit (i.e. either running many apps or run few demanding apps), it does slow down. I figure it would make some differences in these situations.
I can definitely see a difference when overclocking, however only on cpu-taxing tasks:
- Kirby Super Star (a difficult game to emulate) on SNesoid is jerky on stock speeds and the sound stutters. On 1.5GHz it's (almost) totally smooth.
- psx4droid often achieves better framerates with overclocking.
- ADWLauncher EX is noticeably smoother during screen transitions on higher clocks, especially when widgets are involved.
etc.
806MHz doesn't quite cut it imo.
Running at 1500mhz definitely makes the phone faster. I have a pretty involved setcpu profile to optimize for every situation. As a result, I don't have poor battery performance, and the g2 runs better than any other android phone I've used.
The biggest boost is in the browser, its amazingly fast. Faster than chrome on my ubuntu netbook.

I have mine OC to 1.42ghz and use the 1800mah Evo battery which fits inside the G2 using the stock battery cover so it doesn't add thickness to the phone, and can go from 5am till 9pm with moderate to heavy use and still have about 10% battery left.

How do you heavily use your phone for an entire day?

It adds no extra weight, atleast none I notice here's the thread for the battery( the red ones form chichitech), :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=799183
As fas as your second question, "How do you heavly use your phone an entire day?", if you cant figure that out I guess you are confused.
I have played around with the OC settings quite a bit. A few things:
Battery life is not much different than stock. If anything, it improves the battery slightly. I am currently running SetCpu with no profiles and have the governor set to 'on demand'.
The difference between 800mhz and 1.2 ghz is pretty significant. Not only have I seen higher benchmark scores but the phone feels even 'snappier'. No lag in transitions when switching between vertical and horizontal layouts. ADW EX transitions smooth between screens using effects, etc.
I have had it up to 1.5 ghz at times, and to be honest, I don't notice a huge difference between that and the performance at 1.2. Quadrant benchmark score is a few hundred points higher but in day to day usage on my device, the phone feels about the same.
I see very significant difference between my rooted, 1.5ghz OC'ed G2 and my wifes stock G2. My phone opens apps like maps, nav, earth, browser etc.. in half the time. I have noticed that the earth app is not as smooth on stock as it is oc.
I always thought that the G2 was fast stock, and it is, but when I use my wifes phone to hop on the web or whatever, I immediatly notice how much slower it is than mine.

Heres where I got mine from:
http://www.amazon.com/Sprint-Battery-Charger-Verizon-Incredible/dp/B003XOUM12
You get 2 batteries plus a travel charger.
To get them to fit you have to remove the red wrapper off the battery heres a link to a video on how to get them to fit.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WfDdDWttzRI&feature=player_embedded
Flashed this on my G2 running CM 6.1.1 and got a Quadrant score of 3037! I had it OC'd to 1.8 GHz with scaling set to performance, which would obviously mean that the G2 is incredibly faster if you OC it. However, I'm sure it will affect battery life, so I'm only OC'ing my phone to 1.4 GHz, not the fully capable 1.8 GHz.

Anyone else have this problem. I usually am running at 1516 with cm. 6.1.1. So the other day for ****s and giggles I decided to disable set on boot and revert to 806 mhz (stock) and man what a difference. I got 26 hours of battery life. I've tested today with setcpu on running at 806 and tfhe battery life is way off. Somethings up.
[G2/HTC Vision]
Try the app cpu tuner, afaik, any speed above 1.2ghz is overvolted anyway which speeds battery usage. Cpu tuner has worked well for me as I think the verdict is still out to whether setcpu's screen off profiles actually work. That, and I personally don't see a difference in 1ghz vs 1.5ghz in daily activities, unless gaming

How are you guys getting such high battery lives? I was at 28% after 6.5 hours today... like wtf? And i didnt overclock or anything... I was using the phone with continuous data for about 90 minutes... other than that just texting...
Setcpu is the culprit. I would just like to know why it varys for every user. Maybe ill try reinstalling the app and see the outcome.

That's very nice. I just disable the profiles and left it at 806 MHz. The battery drainage slowed down. So profiles really mess up. I have tried virtuous rom, with profiles I got pretty good for HTC sense. But I haven't gotten any close to yours.

My batterry life.
You can see I'm overclocked @ 1.2ghz as well.
Diffrent pic.
Last pic of my home screen was a bit blurry so i uploaded a new one. Now you can see the o.c speed a bit better.
Why would it vary from every user then? I do have profiles setup with ondemand as all my profile governors. I find it very weird how some people are getting good batt life with setcpu running and I'm getting amazing battery with it off. Ran it off for 20 hours so far and I'm at 45 percent.
[G2/HTC Vision]
Maybe some people haven't configured their profiles properly in SetCPU? I know I didn't. I have my phone OC at 1.2ghz and had profiles set for lots of different profiles including screen off at 245/245; i was only getting 14 hours top. However, I realised that the priorities that I had set the different profiles to were clashing. I discovered this when I only the screen off profile enabled with the rest of the profiles disabled and with moderate use (few phone calls via Bluetooth, 25-30mins, a few SMS msgs, very little data, wifi switched on, 2g+3G, not much browsing) I have got 52% after 17hrs 33mins)
Thats very good battery life for me!
Try having profiles enabled but with just the screen off profile activated. It worked wonders for me!
No maximum is 1.3 and min is 245mhz interactive governor

The screen off profile does more harm than good and you do not need it if you are using either the smartass/interactive/scary governer considering they will already underclock when the screen is off, the switching of profiles regularly is a real killer. Beyond that, look into calibrating your battery as well the next time you fully charge the phone. The battery calibration app is also available on the market.

Also I have wifi on about 12 hours a day, I have no data plan, so I use wifi only, I do turn it off when I don't use it for a long period of time.
Brightness always lowest.

Alright, well if you need WiFi on, keep it on, ahah.
And, I use 'conservative,' by the way. But, yes, that looks right.

Well, you should have just 'Apply for now' to test them out, as not all our phones are the same.
But, just use it for a while, and if it seems to run fine, then yeah, just keep it like that.

I reconditioned it a couple days ago, yeah, sure, go ahead, just dun do it often.
Yeah, it shouldn't cause any problems.
And if you get a lock up and it reboots, try tweaking the UV settings a little.
Now weird thing is I get freezes when I'm on deadline or noop scheduler but not in cfq at 1.3ghz

Hello everyone Today i am going to share with you my Experience regarding how to increase battery life and getting a non heat up device
What to do ?
1) Get Root access into your device
2) Install any Cpu control app into your device. for example ( SetCPU, Rom toolbox pro )
3) i set minimum frequency at on 300 MHz and Maximum frequency at 1728 MHz
4) Set the Scheduler on Row
5) Set the Governor on interactive
My tests and Results ..
1) My device is not heating up any more, and now i can continually use my device. I test my xperia z1 by using it 5 hours continually.
2) A little bit more battery life
3) This will not effect on device gaming performance because we are not underclocking the GPU. and overall device still remain fast.
Note
1) After every reboot you should check your cpu settings again because some time the settings restore on default
2) You can also change your Scheduler and Governor on different pairing and testing your device more and more
and also share your result here so all know that which pairing is giving us best result
Hit Thanks if i help you

Z1 mostly heat up when we play HD games for a long time, but with using these settings device remain cool
well it is good that your device is not heating up, may be depend also what are the weather condition ( Temperature ) out there in your country

best to avoid setcpu for now if you wanna try this trick. there's already a case of Z1 owner bricking his device because of it
and another case from ZU forum here

My Z1 is rooted and installed setCPU, I followed same setting ,
1728 max,
300 min,
interative,
row
but ....bad battery life and heating issue still the same, no significant improvement for me ....
and wondering why sometime the max CPU frequency will set back automatically to 2150 mhz....
any advice ?
I hope 4.4 (or 4.3 if we get it) will fix this problem.
If I play HD games it becomes very, very hot...
I'm happy because I don't like to play games on 5' screen.
I have N7 and it's great for gaming - it doesn't heating at all

I think all new devices have this problem, in tablets have more space to dismiss heat.
Sent from my GT-I9500 using xda app-developers app
What is so bad about a hot device? The chips are designed to withstand those temperatures and as long as the hardware is not damaged, or I burn my fingers, I am fine with it.
I actually like that the thermal limit is so high, it means that there is less thermal throttling. This probably is the reason why our Z1 is faster at 2,15 GHz than the LG G2 at 2,3.
Well yes, battery life will take a hit, but that's the trade off for massive performance

Can anyone provide me with an explanation and solution for this problem my N4 is having with Faux's kernel? For some reason when I OC my N4 to 1.8ghz, it runs fine with no problem, but when my N4 enters sleep mode, the device completely freezes and the screen won't turn on or respond. I end up having to force it to shut down by holding the power button and restarting it lol...

try to upscale the min freq a little bit.
That's pretty normal for an unstable device. You might want to play with voltages a bit.

So what exactly is causing this issue? From both of your answers it seems that when it enters sleep mode it undervolts and as a result it becomes unstable because there's not enough energy to manage the CPU when it's at 1.8ghz? Or is it crashing because there" too much of a difference between the minimum and maximum frequencies?

It doesn't seem to occur anymore thanks a million, however there's something else that is going whack now lol.... For some reason it seems whenever I turn off "mpdecision", it always turns back on when I reboot my N4. My other settings stick and only the "mpdecision" reverts back to being on. Same goes for "Snake Charmer", it always goes back to "off" when I reboot device. I set everything to "set on boot" too.
hm,do you are setting these values on trickster?

No, I uninstalled Trickster and got the Faux123 enhancement application as you instructed. But yeah, for some reason "mp decision" and "Snake Charmer" will revert back to default whenever I reboot my device. My other settings that I have changed do stay though, so I'm not sure why only those two options reset themselves when the others don't.
If you put set on boot they will stick a few seconds after reboot, you have to wait a few.

Did you change any of the voltages on your N4 when you overclocked it? My N4 still seems to sometimes freeze and crash in sleep mode while its over clocked to 1.8ghz. While it's on it never crashes or has any problems.

Currently, I have C0, C2, and C3 enabled. I know that these sleep mode crashes are related to the SOC control but I can't seem to find what I have to enable and disable. The voltage most likely has a role in it too, but I'm not sure which "things" voltage I have to change. I keep getting these dodgy replies saying to change my voltages but they dont tell me what voltage I have to change. Am I supposed to raise the voltage on the 1.8ghz or what? It's like someone telling me to punch someone, but who?

Oops I'm on my desktop now, had to reread.
Pretty much my phone was on "m" meaning mainstream = stock 1.5GHz.
The "u" one is the one with 1.8GHz.
That being said undervolting is best applied to lower clocks and for battery saving.
Since the 1.5GHz is what the default max clock for the N4 it has a table range of voltages. Each one may be different depending on binning meaning some might be at 800mV and another at 775mV (just an example) for a given clock like say 384MHz, 400MHz, 500MHz etc...
When people say did you change voltages, since 1.8GHz is technically an overclock you may or may not need to adjust voltages to compensate the need for more power. If the voltages are too low it will either reboot or crash/wont turn back on. Similar things apply to overclocking CPUs on desktop.
So since 1.8GHz isnt within stock spec it is considered an overclock therefore it may need more voltages and that can be adjusted.
I would download the latest faux123 kernel and reapply it and start from the beginning. Then if it keeps crashing you may need to apply more voltage and I think they go by 12.5mV.
---------- Post added at 02:17 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:13 AM ----------
This is from my N5 and this is considered undervolting.
