[Q] How to upgrade my Tytung R13 to Dorimanx 4.1? - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hello,
Can someone tell if it's wise to upgrade my Tytung R13 Kernel to R14 or Dorimanx kernel?
I like to have a better battery life.
How do I have to upgrade to a "better" Kernel without losing all my apps and settings?
Hope someone can provide me some answers.
Greetings Matthieu.

Put the Dorimax kernel zip file in the root of your SD.
switch your phone off
switch it on again holding down the power button until the menu comes up
select install zip from SD
navigate to the Dorimax zip and install that.
then reboot your phone!
(if you're using NAND Android!)

I use r14 with Tytung's Gingerbread ROM. Tried several earlier versions of Dorimax's kernel and had terrible luck with them. Lost app linkages mainly and Titanium Backup even though I was using the correct zip file created by a forum user on Tytung's thread. Going to the hidden phone menu I switched my phone to use GSM only and this reduced the battery drain from WCDMA preferred which is the default.

What ROM do you use? The original Tytung kernel thread and included file is for Tytung's ROM. For compatibility, somebody has suggested to replace the initrd.gz file with the one in your ROM before flashing.
You can try Tytung 14. It is good and stable. If you like to do some adventure and something exciting but a little dangerous, try Dorimanx. Dorimanx is a crazy developer. The speed of kernel and ROM updates is high. I will recommend to try Dorimanx kernel v3.3 and 4.1. Both of them work on my Typhoon ROM.

Hello,
Thanks for the answers. I use the NexusHD2 Gingerbread V3.2a rom with Tytungs R13 kernel.
I read something about the initrd.gz file. Do I have to do something with that file before upgrading to Tytungs R14 or is there a complete zipfile and can I install it just as mentioned in the second post without losing anything? Is the batterylife better with R14 or Dorimanx 4.1 instead of R13?
I am just a beginner and want to extend the usage of my HD2.
Thanks.
Greetings Matthieu.

Go to the kernel thread by Tytung http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1258110. The kernel is just all you need.
The ROM you use is his work, too. Nothing have to be changed before flashing. Just do it. Have fun.
I am not sure if battery life if better in R14. You can try it. Flashing the kernel you will not lose anything. If you want to do some cleansing work, just wipe cache, Dalvik cache (in advanced setting), and fix permission. Do not wipe system/factory reset.

Thanks!! I hit the thanksbutton for you...

Is it also possible to just put a dorimanx 4.1 zipfile on my sd card and install it without doing extra actions (like installing extra files)? I am a noob with this so....
Greetings Matthieu.

Yes, in Dorimanx v4.1 the initrd.gz files from CM/MIUI/ICS are incl. in the kernel. While flashing you can choose your system. Though the file you are looking for, initrd.gz, is located in your ROM's .ZIP. just open it en you will find the file under /boot, extract initrd.gz en extract the Dorimanx .ZIP and place initrd.gz in the initrd-custom directrory. Last but not least you need to select all the exctracted files from the Dorimanx .zip (incl the initrd-custom folder with your custom initrd.gz) and make a new .ZIP!
Correct me if i'm wrong!? =P

can I flash Dorimanx kernal to sense roms?

Is dat rom using edify sricpts?
For every rom that isn't gingerbread (2.3) you need to use recovery 2.5.

No, Amend. Use Clockworkmod from within ROM Manager for getting CWM 2.5 (This is over and above your current 3.x), else use Fastboot to remove your current 3.x and install 2.5 in its place.
cn all the apps move to the sd card?????????
you can try out my rom

Thanx For Replying
In CM7, Open ROM Manager (Or, if you are not in CM7, then download the app called ROM MAnager from the Market)
- Then Select Install Clockworkmod Recovery. This will install v2.5 on the SDCard
- Select Reboot into Recovery from ROM Manager
- This will take you to Clockworkmod 2.5, then you can install this ROM.
By following this, you get to keep both recoveries, 2.5 (Select Reboot into Recovery from ROM Manager App) and 3.x (Select Reboot into Recovery from the Phone-Switch-Off Menu)

+1 for jokerdroid, after using CM7 for 1 month. I cant live without sense dialer and contact manager, and jokerdroid is really fast and stable (I got 3.3mflops without JIT).
+1 JokerDroid 4.2 i have been using cm7 stable and nightlys for the last 2-3 months they are fast but had to many little bugs that pissed me off lol , never really used sense as had the phone for a couple of hours and rooted it and flashed cm7,JokerDroid 4.2= fast and very stable so far so for me this is the best rom i have used to date
that`s good !
yep ! one of the best roms that i`ve ever tried ! jokerdroid 4.2 ! so far so good since a week ago !
I tested CM7, but I missed some features from Sense. So I decide to use JokersDroid, but it hasn't got "insecure boot" (no rw mount). After everything I decided to use MoDaCo (it has busybox, so usefull). I replaced kernel to nfinity MC4 from johnseen99 (so I can OC buzz), removed some annoying apps, add JAVA and Livewallpapers from DK Rom, unlocked GoogleMaps and switched to GoLauncher EX.
I'm happy now

There is no zip
1. I flashed MoDaCo from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=867937
2. Via recovery switched kernel to: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=591094&d=1304950233
3. JAVA - unpack DK ROM - from /system/app copy Jbed.apk and libjbedvm.so from /system/lib -> via adb push them to similar folders. In /system/app are two files with "live" in name - copy them too (livewallpapers doesn't work in Sense)
4. Wifi indicator and Wavesecure removed via Titanium backup
5. Maps: http://mobileplanet-waryam.blogspot.com/2011/07/google-maps-v562-mod-with-world.html
6. Go Launcher - via Market
If some day I'd learn how to prepare full custom ROM - I''ll do it

Ok, there is two other ways to make it: using rootexplorer to remount /system partition with R/W, or adb shell to remount it manually (adb shell, su, and mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock1 /system)
As I have rootexplorer, even when I have to adb push something, I just open /system in rootexplorer and press "mount r/w" button.
Ed.:
I cant remember the correct number of mtdblock. You can check it with df command on shell, and it will give you all mounted partitions

[REQ] Kernel that supports Overclocking

I have been a fan of DJ Steve's ROMs and his dev skills. But right now I am running a deodexed 351 that is otherwise stock, in portrait mode. haha
I love his ability to compile ROMs and Kernels and such, but I really want just the kernel that supports overclocking.
I can get any of the kernels to work from 1.91
no vol, no ppt
no vol, ppt
vol and ppt
vol and no ppt
I even add the proper dhd.ko file for the modules folder and correct the permissions and even the reset.ko file too.
But no matter what I do, I can't get the kernel to work AND wifi to work. It seems like either or for a stock rom. Either you have a plain kernel with no overclocking, or you can use the kernel with no wifi working.
Does anyone know of:
1: If there are other files I should be bringing over from the rom to make the kernel and wifi work together
or
2: What specifically I can edit to allow the stock kernel to allow overclocking?
Sorry for the long post.
Thanks for the help in advance.
OK. I guess no one out there knows either.
What I have been doing so far to achieve overclocking is create a .txt file (according to the instructions on setcpu.com) and put that at the root of my sdcard and have setcpu do the rest.
I would prefer to use the kernel method so I can add the volboost and/or ppt tweaks in 1.91.
I will wait patiently for your guidence.
Maybe try this

Ok I figured out which one will work.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113256
Ok go to Simple Streak's thread.
1. Download the .zip for version 1.2
2. copy the files in /system/lib/modules to your /system/lib/modules
3. fix permissions, they should be 644, which are rw-r--r--
4. boot into fastboot, and flash his boot.img
Thank you Spidla for a kernel I can use that supports overclocking, that I dont have to use the entire ROM and most importantly, my wifi works.

[SPRINT] [CDMA]OC Kernel Swaping with Stock EF-17

I have been experimenting with Kernel swapping tring to find the easiest and safest way without Soft Bricking your Tab. I am on Sprint 7" (SPH-P100) and on Stock EF-17 2.3.4, but this method should work on any (Rooted) CDMA Tab.
First find the CDMA ROM that has the Kernel you want to use, DL the ROM and Extract it to its own folder and go into the folder and find the Zimage. Copy the Zimage and paste on your Desktop. Now DL SGS Kernal Flasher from the Market (FREE) Back up your kernal in the APP. Mount your tab and open to veiw files. If there is a Zimage file in there, Delete it and put your new Zimage (Kernel) in its place and unmount your Tab.
Open SGS Kernel Flasher and hit Choose Kernal, Now goto parent directory and scroll all the way to the bottom and you should see Zimage, press on that then hit FLASH Kernel. Now you have a new OC Kernal without using ODIN or Heimdall!!
Right now I am using Galaxy Cubed 3 ROM's Kernel 1.6GHz on stock EF-17. I have found that I am Stable @ 1.4 GHz. On performance using SetCpu I am running 2350 Quadrants More than double the speed of the stock Kernel without VooDoo, or EXT4!! I have also Flashed Initial Contact kernel @ 1.2GHz.
I have done this on my Sprint Tab and it has worked Flawlessly.
Please do so @ your own Risk, as I am not responsible for your Tab. With that being said Happy Easy Kernel Flashing To ALL CDMA Folks.

ics ON TAB

Hi
Can anyone help with upgrading my P1000 to ICS?
I have read it can be done via flash and sd card but I am far from confident doing that.
I am happy using Odin and have upgraded to gingerbread ok.
Can anyone tell me is it now possible to install ICS easily just using Odin?
Any help would be fantastic
Go the Dev section.
Look through the ICS threads.
They are mostly available as zip files to flash using Clockworkmod recovery (CWM).
CWM is available as part of most non-stock ROMs - i.e., Overcome, Hyperdroid, etc.
Some features don't work, like camera and lockscreen. The Devs are doing great work, but it's not complete yet.
Good luck.
Hello I am using right now the last ICS ROM posted in vthe forum. Is fantastic and the people here is mking a great work. All you can imagine is working pretty well. I had tried anothers, like for example for my galaxy note but none is working as good as the one I am referring to. You can have a real experience of ICS in the Galaxy Tab through this ROM, smooth, fast and expect more as it is a workjg in process ROM. I advise you to try it. BTW I have set the dpi to 120 for me is the best one.
Regards. Sorry for the mistyping.
Enviado desde mi GT-P1000 usando XDA Premium HD app
I have been able to upgrade my 2.3.3 to 4.0.3 without any problems.
I first read the Overcome Guide as it was very helpful in learning how to do this. Then I obtained a copy of the gb5 rom as it has the ClockworkMod for the tab included.
I installed the GB5 rom using Odin 3.17 using the files included in the GB5 file. Rebooted and then downloaded the Humberos ICS files. (There are three files from Humberos.) Copy the Humberos files into the internal SD. Reboot into receovery and found the menu changed where you can flash any rom you want.
I flashed the rom + kernel and then the Google apps file.
The results are:
Model number: GT-P1000
Android Version: 4.0.3
Baseband version: P1000XXJPZ
Kernel: 2.6.35.7 SGT7-ICS-TE4M #20120307
CyanogenMod: 9.0.0-RC0-GalaxyTab-HumberOS
Build Date: Qua Mar 7 01:17:36 BRT 2012
Build Nunber CM9-SGT7-TE4M-20120307
Everything on my tab is working great. I find new features such as panoramic photos great, the network and bluetooth work flawlessly, both cameras are working (front one is glitchy but back one ok).
I am very happy to have upgraded but took about one month to make sure I read about the process first and obtained the necessary files.
@Repoman: Both cameras work for you? With stock camera app?

Hi zalanz. I am able to help you with this. I will try to explain as easy as i can.
Note : I will not be responsible for any damage happen to your tab. Make sure you follow the steps carefully as it may brick your tab. Make sure you already have backup every important documents before using this tutorial guide. IMPORTANT!! make sure the backup files is NOT in your SD Card/Phone.
Upgrading Gingerbread 2.3.3 to Cyanogenmod7 2.3.6
1. You will need to download 3 important files.
a. MSVCP100.dll from Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 runtimes and get it at
[microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?familyid=A7B7A05E-6DE6-4D3A-A423-37BF0912DB84&displaylang=en]
b. Heimdall flashing program. [glassechidna.com.au/products/heimdall/]
[Filename] heimdall-suite-1.1.1-win32.zip [extract files].
c. Download cyanogenmod 7 firmware files [ tcm7beta-2012-02-19.zip ] by clicking this link gtab7.nexus-lab.com/cm7sgt/tc...2012-02-19.zip alternatively if you cannot find the link you always can get it a forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=931857
2. Run Heimdall and follow this youtube tutorial [youtube.com/watch?v=CAK9i_ISeqM ]
3. Finish! Now you should be having your P1000 tab running on Cyanogenmod7 2.3.6 [rooted]
Cyanogenmod7 2.3.6 to Cyanogenmod9 a.k.a Humber OS [ Ice cream Sandwich 4.0]
1. You will need to download 3 important files from humberos.com.br/p/android-ics.html
a. CM9-SGT7-TE4M-20120307.zip Rom files
b. GApps .zip
c. P1000.zip Kernal files
2. You will need to extract files from CM9-SGT7-TE4M-20120307.zip and p1000.zip into a separate folder. Rename the folder to CM9-SGT7-TE4M-20120307 and another folder name KERNEL. After extract from both, choose zImage filename from folder p1000 copy files and paste into CM9-SGT7-TE4M-20120307 [extracted files] folder. Doing this will only replace the zImage filename into newer one.
3. Copy all the 3 important files into your External SD card.
4. Run the CWM Recovery Mode [pwr button + volume up]
5. Choose to install your files from SD CARD
6. Follow these steps
How to install
1. Copy all files (ROM+Kernel+GApps) to sdcard
2. Recovery Mode
3. Install ROM (don't restart)
4. For All Models - Install Kernel (don't needs bluetooth fix - don't restart yet)
5. Install GApps (after install, restart)
Finish! Now you should be having your P1000 tab running on Cyanogenmod9 a.k.a Humber OS [ Ice cream Sandwich 4.0] [rooted]
OR
Other methods of flashing your ROM
1. you must have rom with ext4 support before flashing with ics cm9, ie: overcome,
2. go to cwm, wipe user datat, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache.
3. pick install from sdcard, locate where you put cm9 rom file
4. after flashing rom, do not reboot, you must flashing the kernel, then install gapps, reboot
p/s: forgive me for my bad english. This guide I made it myself based on my research at google, xda-developer, Humber OS, all the files need to be download you can find it at the website given. Just dont forget to add www at front of the link. I repeat again I will not be responsible for any damage happen to your tab. Make sure you follow the steps carefully as it may brick your tab. Make sure you already have backup every important documents before using this tutorial guide. IMPORTANT!! make sure the backup files is NOT in your SD Card/Phone.
Thank you for the replies.
I am not confident flashing from sd card.
Will it be possible just using Odin?
I am happy using that and successfully upgrafed to gingerbread and root with it.
If not guess will stick with what I have as just too iffy for me to do other.
You will be missing out a lot.
For many years we have been flashing roms and radios and kernels using recovery.
I first use AmonRa recovery in my HTC Magic to backup and flash roms from sdcard, never once connecting the phone to my pc during those 3yrs.
Same with my Gtab. Only when I restock to Overcome ROM I use Odin.
Try to step out of your comfort zone.
Theoretically you can't brick your tab by flashing rom, unless you flash a bad bootloader.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA
This actually is easier than using Odin. Besides, the ICS images seem to come in this form at the moment. You can even flash a kernel this way. The only drawback is that this is only possible with a an enhanced recovery mode that will install any Zip from any location, so you need Odin the first time to flash a kernel with it included. After that you put the files on the phone or on the SD card, boot to Recovery mode, and install the Zip.

Change ROM

Is it possible to maintain all the applications after changing ROM Stock to Custom? Do I have to delete the partition on the SD card when changing ROM (I am using Link2SD) or kernel will change (I use the kernel from Merruka)?
I would like to change the ROM on the Hyperion 8 / CM, but do not want the new kernel upload, move, and download applications, speed up phone boosters and so on.
For the apps part, make a backup of your apps with titatium bwackup, install rom, create mou t script in link2sd and clear the 2nd partition and restore your backup.
For the kernel part, for hyperion (and any other stock based rom) you can keep merruk, for cm you need to follow the installation steps in the rom thread (stock kernel is not compatible with cm).
