A market report by Flurry showed that Kindle Fire now has the highest market share. Kindle Fire jumped from 3% in November to 36% in January 2012. That is crazy. Check out source for report details and market share graph.

They are measuring this by application session numbers, not sales, either way it's still impressive.
Even more impressive considering it wasn't out the entire quarter. It's a great little device.

I agree. Going from 3% to 36% in two months is very impressive. And app session numbers tell you the active user number. So the real count maybe even higher.

Flurry defines a session as “the launch and subsequent exit (or pause for more than 10 seconds) of an app.” So one user can and will account for more than one session since opening and closing any app counts for one session.
HERE is a more detailed version of the report in the OP.

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah......it's a quality product at a very reasonable price!!!
Would this take into account all the Kindle's disguised as Galaxy Tab's for market access?

Google may come out with its Nexus Tablet. New rumors are saying it could be targeting Kindle Fire.
7-inch, Android 4.0, and <$199
What do you think? I don't think its gonna happen.
Source
Someone puts out a tablet of decent quality that is a WiFi based 7" form factor with GPS and basic front facing camera and a mic along the lines of a KF and they are going to sell... Heck I would look at it.
I'd be all over that, but it is way to good to be true, so I'm not resting any hopes on it becoming reality.
Sent from my rough sketch of a Vibrant on a brick.
It would definately be nice, but if it really does happen it could help on development for our devices as well so I say go for it google.

Seems too good to be true, but I'd give it a look. I wonder if they'd have to sell it at a loss with those numbers (specs/price).
I could see them wanting to to push Google Books, Google mp3's, the Android Market and other Google services. The problem is to have a "true" Google Experience device it would need GPS(for Google Nav), a camera(for Google Face unlocker and other stuff - probably front and back Cam's(You Tube)) , NFC (for Google Wallet). etc., etc. Overall a fully feature packed high end tablet with cutting edge specs.
It would probably cost them $300 to make it. I just don't see any way they would bother to build it to put it up against the Kindle Fire at $199. I also can't imagine them building a "Google" tablet anyway as it would destroy it's software partners tablet market.
I'd drop my fire in a second if this happened, but I'm not holding my breath.

I wouldn't drop my kindle, but I'd definitely be interested in purchasing a Google tablet.
Yeah, not without an otterbox defender case on
A Google Experience tablet, the same price as the Fire?
I'd sell mine on eBay as soon as the "Nexus" tablet was confirmed to be real. If you wait until it's released, the market would be flooded with used Fires, dropping its value significantly.
I would buy this quickly if it had good build quality and didn't have a locked bootloader
I don't really care. I like my Fire and I'm keeping it.
Would definitely buy it but don't believe it would happen.

Hey guys!
Not to burst everyones' bubble, but the original source of this rumor is a less than reputable news site (DigiTimes). I don't doubt that Google is going to release a Nexus tablet, but it will be more along the lines of what Eric Schmidt said back in December - "In the next six months we plan to market a tablet of the highest quality". The Nexus line has always been Google's premium line, and with that there has always been a premium price tag.

^Exactly. There's no way such a device would come in under $200 based on that. I'd still consider one but I bought the KF because of the price and value. I don't see Google topping that ratio.
However, for an early upgrade offer from Verizon and I'm getting a Galaxy Nexus, dammit!

Amazon is going to start selling adspace on there Kindle's now that they have sold millions. If you are using the default rom, you will start to see intrusive and annoying ad's. It would also make sense they may lock the boot loader for the ad to appear for a full two months.
In a smart and most likely controversial move, Amazon has just announced the ability to purchase ad space on their popular Kindle Fire tablets. For $600,000, your ad will be displayed on the boot-up screen of every Kindle Fire for 2 full months. This business model could prove to be a great way to offer high-end tablets at a much lower price given the manufacturer is willing to make up the costs of production in ad sales. It’s surprising that Google themselves have not already put this into action, but with Google I/O 2012 just a little over a month away, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see the big “G” follow suit.
The details have yet to be fully ironed out and many questions and concerns have already made some noise on the matter. So is Amazon going to incorporate this change on all existing and new tablets or will this just be for the new adopters? I kind of feel like it’s a little late in the game for Amazon to all of a sudden make this change for current Kindle Fire owners. You have been enjoying an ad free experience this whole time and all of a sudden you are going to be bombarded with ads, something most of you I am sure did not sign up for from the start. Sadly, this is the new reality if we are to get products at low cost or even free. Take apps in the Google Play Store, for instance. We all have downloaded a free app in the past that was ad free and then updated to a new version with sneak attack ad incorporation.
The Kindle Fire aside, I would certainly like to see more options for consumers in the future and I believe that selling mobile devices at a cheaper cost in exchange for advertisements is a nice start.

"$200 for the 8 GB model and $250 for 16 GB—that this thing is aiming squarely to extinguish the Fire, as is the big push Google is pressing on sucking up your favorite media"
"built by Asus, the Nexus holds a 1.3Ghz quad-core CPU, 12-core Tegra 3 processor, NFC, and 1 GB of RAM, a 1.2MP front-facing camera, and 8 hours of battery life—all with two different storage variants: 8 GB and 16 GB. Why? Do you regret buying a device that has been out for almost a year? If so, you probably get buyer's remorse for every single item you've ever purchased. The tech world moves rather quickly. Rumor has it Amazon will reply with a KF2 by end of July. We'll see. Be happy that we're seeing cheaper and better devices. Don't be a cheapass.

On the plus side, I'll begin Android 4.1 development the day the source is dropped by Google.
That's mid July.
Last I checked, the Nexus 7 will ship in about 2-3 weeks.
That's mid July.
So while the Kindle Fire will get blown away on any benchmark when compared to the Nexus 7... It may have Jelly Bean running on it right around the same time Nexus 7 owner's are getting them in their homes.

I was thinking the same thing and checked out CL and was stunned. Fire's are hemorrhaging on that site for as low as $75 used and $100 new/unopened. So I'm probably going to pass on this new toy from Google as nice as it is...
I'm pretty confident that besides Skype, there really isn't much I would do on that tablet than I can already do on the Fire (I don't use Bluetooth on it and I don't play games on it...so...).
Not saying my choice is the right one for everyone...but the extra $125 I would have to spend doesn't really justify it for me.

I agree, my KF does everything I want a tablet to do except for video chat, though I have my Rezound and laptop for that. Knowing Hash will have Jelly Bean for us about the same time the Nexus 7 is released is awesome. I'll probably upgrade from the KF after a full year of use (early January '13) but I'm in no rush.
I look at it this way, we already have something Nexus 7 buyers don't: a out 8 months use of a good solid Android tablet.

NFC and GPS too if those matter to you; and the Nexus is sounding quite speedy too.
It's been over half a year since Amazon started selling the current Fire and I'm curious to see what kind of performance, features, and screen sizes their rumored Fire 2 will have

I just ran the chain fire benchmark and the sun spider browser benchmark on my fire running the sgt7 ROM. I came really close to their numbers for the Nexus, 1757 for spider and 11047 for chain.
It's clear that the linaro tweaks give a huge boost, and Google has probably incorporated those optimizations into jelly bean.

Do you have a mother, sister, brother, or even a father that might like this Kindle Fire? (Especially a mother, sister or other female family member.) You can explain to your girl that you really appreciate the thoughtfulness of her getting it for you but you've decide that you really want person XYZ to have it and you've got your eye on device ABC when it comes out. Of course some variation might be needed, but if you put enough thoughtfulness into how you explain it then your girl can hardly argue with you otherwise she'll look like a real *****.... but presentation is key.
What will Jelly Bean give us that we don't already have?

For us (Kindle Fire users)...probably not much.
Am I the only one who hates that the Nexus 7 is just an oversized phone?
Seeing as how the Fire handles ICS way better than my phone, I do not see a legitimate reason to switch to a Nexus 7.

It seems as though Amazon has decided to bow out of the "higher end" market, which is a shame. They've decided instead to stick with the lower price, high volume market to get more people into their ecosystem. At the time that the HDX first came out, it was actually relatively inexpensive for a tablet with its specs. It's one of the reasons that I bought it in the first place. If they had built it with micro SD storage, it would have been darn near perfect. I guess I'll just have to hold onto my old HDX 7 until it rolls over and dies.
I think Android tablet market as a whole is dead. Amazon just interest to sell ecosystem.

Well, that shows how little attention I've paid to the tablet market. The last time I really paid any attention was over 3 years ago when I purchased my HDX 7.
Honestly I actually pre-ordered the new Fire HD 8, because my second tablet: the Nexus 7 2013 is somehow stuck in a unfixable bootloop (it sucks but I did make a recent backup) I didn't want to be stuck with one tablet again, so I thought that the 2017 Fire HD 8's specs was as close as possible (on paper) for the same price I paid for my HDX 7. So I'll definitely tell you guys my verdict in about a week of everyday use.

I think the likely verdict is understood by those familiar with both devices. They do not play in the same space aside from vendor, approximate screen size and base operating system (Android derivatives). Beyond that night and day.
I got pushed a 4.5.5.3 update with build number 455006420 (instead of the current [at the time of posting] 455006120 still up on Amazon's site).
For me,they just release this to remove root, which occurs after the update.
Kingroot can root after the update, if someone ask.
Dont know why they refuse to release fireos 5 for this tablet.

Every OTA update removes root due to the way Amazon refreshes the system partition. It is a consequence of the process, not necessarily an intentional action. As for FireOS 5, 3rd gen devices are EOL and differ technically from 4th gens despite a similar exterior. There is ZERO business case for pushing a major update to a 5+ year old gizmo which will undoubtedly generate service calls and a few bricked devices.

Absolutely no business case for Amazon to make such a move and several strong arguments against. Consumes resources and opens the door for headaches, bellyaching and potential liability claims. Best let sleeping dogs lie where they are.

The new generation of "kindle tablets" is waaayyy better at maintaining cohesiveness with Amazon's ecosystem which was the objective all along. HDX missed the mark which is why it was discontinued. Amazon isn't in the business of catering to geeks and modders which make up a tinny fraction of the potential user base. Nor should they be.
tl;dr: when you're a hammer everything looks like a nail.
Can anyone modify this rom so I won't loose bootloader ?
