[PATCH] Old Bootloader [USB DOWNLOAD HACK] READ!!! - Galaxy S II General

Hey guys, on the the forums!
I'm here today, to "show" you a small hack, for the SGS II!
All you need, are a few things, and then we can get started.
But, let me tell you, what I'm trying to expain;
If you are a person, that is new to flashing, then you might find this especially interesting, because this hack, lets you flash as many custo things, as you want, but the flash-counter does not increase.
As an example, I flash my phone, near-to every few days, because I test new and custom kernels. So, I found this hack, and it works!
So, let's get on with the tutorial!
First; the things you will need.
1. My custom Odin. (Because then, it's easier to explain...)
2. A USB Download-mode Jig/Dongle.
3.The Update-package.
Tutorial:
Turn your phone OFF, and plug in the USB Jig/Dongle. Once in download mode, take the Jig/Dongle out, and plug in the USB cable, in to your computer (and phone). Now open Odin, and extract the update-package.
In Odin, you will find buutons, called " Bootloader" and "PDA", and a checkbox, named "Update phone's Bootloader".
Clcik on "Bootloader" and select:"GT-I9100_OLD_BOOTLOADER" now click on Open. Back in Odin, click on "PDA" and select the file named: "GT-I9100_counter_patch".
Now, once you have made sure, that the checkboxes "Auto reboot device" and "F. Reset Time" are checked, just click on "Start flash" and wait for your device to reboot.
Now, flash Siyah-Kernel.
You flash this, by clicking the File named "Siyah2.tar" in the "PDA" menu....
After the flashing has finished, go back to your download mode: (Three-button-combo or CWM app way) And you will notice; that it still says
"Custom Binary Download: No.
Binary: Samsung Official"
If you liked my tutorial, please thanks me.
If you think, I could do something better, tahn message me.
Happy flashing!
Edit: The reason I said: "A Download-Mode-Jig is needed!" Is because you are probably new to flashing, so if you close Odin by accident, you will need the Jig, to unbrick our device.
And, incase you do something wrong, you will also need the Jig, incase it counted, where you flashed Siyah.
Sorry for not saying his earlier.
It's noted for next time!

Hi, what's the difference to : intratech,
besides flashing custom rom?
Does it influence the counter somehow?

Anyone can confirm this really works?
And why he says u need jig when u can boot into download mode without jig to flash the bootloader and patch?

Because it's easier to get into the bootloader the first time with the Jig/Dongle, and if it fails, you will still need the Jig/Dongle to reflash...
And, incase you accidently do something to the phone, during the flash -process, you will need the Jig, incase of a brick...

Yes, it does. It stops the counter from counting. So, basicly, the hacked Bootloader, tells the counter: "This is a stock ROM, if you believe it, or not. So Say it's stock, or else!"
Even if it's custom.

Nice
But frankly i will not risk flashing the bootloader now(the first one to be flashing)
And change the title to "Flash custom kernel without increase in binary counter"
EDIT: Are you f**king kidding me?One star?

If you are too scared, to flash the Bootloader first, then just do the Patch. Then the bootloader, that way, you get a feeling for it.
But, trust me, I've done this on quite a few phone's before posting. It works just amzingly. But when updating the phone, you may need to flash the Bootloader and patch again. I've not tried that yet. As there are no Updates for my GS II at the moment....

While there do appear to be differences between Odin executables (I personally wouldn't even think about using it because of my next statement), both of the Sbl.bin files in your archive are binary identical to each other and to the one in Intratech's thread.

No offense to familyguy59 (great show by the way) i know who's guide i would follow if i ever wanted to reset my binary counter. Now let us see who i would choose.
Familyguy59 that has only few posts or Intratech who has not only a whole thread with guides and providing stock official roms but look what he also has done for the community by what he does and what he provides.
So i know where i would put my money at. No offense again to familyguy59 i am sure your hack probably does work but like i said i know who's guide i would choose

They look the same, but aren't. They are both bootloaders/patches. But both have different jobs. And won't work without eachother. I am trying to compile both into one, though...

Not to be rude or anything,
I don't get what you mean by Linux freak (you don't need Linux to compare hashes) . It is pretty much impossible for two files to have the same CRC-32, MD5 and SHA-1 hashes. I've also checked them in a HEX editor and even still they are the same.
Also when you say you "modded" odin, have you just changed the text in resource hacker to make some stuff n00b firendly?

I think you've hit the nail on the head. So to sum up, we have two bootloaders which are identical to the ones in Intratech's thread, and a few strings changed via Resource Hacker in a "modded" Odin. Awesome.

How To Fix The E: Can't mount /dev/block/stl10 (invalid Argument) Error

I personally have semi-bricked my phone (SGS) a considerable amount of times and each time i got this message E: Can't mount /dev/block/stl10 (invalid Argument) Error. Then i got very frustrated and found a fix. So here is how I fixed it. This might work on the Original Galaxy tab
Things you are going to need:
1. Odin (any version) maybe Heimdall haven't tested yet
2. dbdata.rfs.tar (included in post)
3. semi-bricked phone
Flash with repartition off i repeat do not flash with it on. sometimes works with repartition.also pit is not needed put file in pda in odin
After you are finished rejoice and tell me how happy you are in the comments and how you found my thread
P.s if i helped don't forget to donate so i can buy pizza. and also hit the thank's button and rate this thread for me

Do You Have To Use Capital Letters In Every First Letter Of Word?
It is pain to read..
If you remove all these offending fonts, big size and colour, your topic could draw some interest...
Anyone who wants to go back to a Stock Rom from a modded 2.2.1 Rom needs to first flash a Stock 2.1 Rom. Check my ConvergeROM thread for instructions.

Thanks for the constructive criticism i have changed it now just thought that bright
colours were nice sorry
good job, much better now
i'm sure this will help a lot of people that bricked their phone with that error
good info, already had that problem but i solved in a more timed way, your way is faster
I had the same problem once also. I ended up flashing jpu package from samfirmware with repartition ect. I was then able to flash back to my stock firmware, jl2. Good to know there are other methods in case of another disaster.
Great thread, added to favorites.

Hey man I tried this and now the phone doesn't turn on. Just sits there with a black screen. No response to 3-button combo either. Any ideas?
Samsung SCH-1500 (fascinate) running EB01 Froyo with SC 2.8.
When I try to flash using ODIN, it gives me:
Can't open the specified file. (Line: 1455)
it failed. How do I fix this? I really need to know, thanks
By the way, both SCH-1500 and the internation version have the same way of storing files, so it doesnt matter im on fascinate

Soft-bricked may be the correct term, either way I would always recommend flashing with a full/low level rom that contains csc, pda, modem + repartion with PIT.

Managed to fix it by flashing JPU. Do NOT tick repartition while flashing dbdata.rfs. that's what got me into this issue. Also, .pit is not needed.

Mods please read this. Lack of md5 posting for custom roms

I was just wondering about the lack of people posting md5 for custom roms in the dev section
Love the works of the devs here and the only reason I'm posting this here is to hope devs and mods read this
I've flashed a few roms that had the wrong md5 and trust me it isn't fun. Also it won't help the devs find bugs as people may report issues that are simply due to bad downloads
I've been flashing roms for various phone for over 2 years but find the lack of md5 posting in here a little disturbing compared to other xda forums for android.
Shouldn't this be mandatory by now?

+1 I totally agree
and for people who dont know what is it
http://dret.net/glossary/md5
Well if a self-extracting archive is corrupt it just won't extract the tarball do I think you don't need md5 for the firmwares.
For CWM ROM I would agree that if you're anal about these things then an MD5 checksum would be a good way to check the integrity of your download.

Many people download these roms over wireless data which has more chances of packet loss or corrupt info.
Also this won't take too much time for dev just to post this info and it avoids many issues.
I was using custom desire hd roms and prior to that nexus one roms and all those xda forums post them without a second thought.
It's not a big deal to post it but it's a big deal for the people installing these roms who don't want corrupt roms and for devs who want valid feedback.
That's why I don't understand the lack of posting them for these roms
Yeah, but...

You can't argue with that point. Maybe for zip files it's a good idea, but for firmwares that are self-extracting zips (like Intratech's), it's literally a non-requirement.
Good idea otherwise though.
If I'm honest here, speaking as a user, not a mod.
I'd rather it wasnt mandatory, that way its another indicator of whether or not a ROM is worth flashing.
MD5 - No issues....
No MD5 - Who knows what other shortcuts they've taken...... Dont flash.
jm2c
One of the reason I didn't bother with the md5 and just created self-extracting archives was because of the unbelievable number of PMs I got asking what it was for and how to use MD5 and that kind of thing which made me go: !!
Couldn't believe that people on here didn't know what a md5 hash was or how it was used.

I well aware of the issues with transmitting of data via tcp/ip, my job kind of depends on knowing little stupid details like that. Files don't change, the data becomes corrupt. If a self-extracting archive is corrupt it won't extract, you'll get an error.

Also. If I used the word developers in a previous post then that should probablt be replaced with "zip file abusers".

Sounds good to me
I'm simply stating that supplying the MD5 for the ROMs devs make for people is something that is easy to do and should be done to allow a certain amount of quality control
There are plenty of MD5 checking applications on the market people can use if they want to check it
I don't understand why asking DEVs to supply this is such a big deal. Devs are asking users to trust them with custom firmware they make so why shouldn't users be able to validate the ROM they download isn't corrupt prior to flashing via CWM.
Also keep in mind not all users use these roms to flash some may download them to simply extract certain files or apps in order to mod their current phone like me extracting the older android market to replace the new one which I don't like.
I simply think its simple quality control and doesn't take much time for anyone to post.
Correct me if I am wrong but if a ROM developer posts a thread here, with there rom and everything in it, without a MD5 sum and has users using it. If those users post that the rom is bad and has a lot of problems, people will avoid it.
If its really good, the ROM will be downloaded plenty of times and the thread will have plenty of pages stating the rom is good. Isn't that basically the same thing as MD5 checking to see if the rom is good?
Also, never download anything from a source you do not trust.

But that's the thing an MD5 is simply a fingerprint to make sure that the ROM the dev uploaded is the ROM you downloaded and are about to flash. It has nothing to do with trusting the dev but its not like most of us know them personally anyways but that's besides the point.
The ROM that is uploaded may be correct and many people maybe downloading and using it but the corruption comes from during the download process either via the computer or on the phone.
Due to this sometimes 1 out of 100 or 1000 downloads for example maybe corrupt. So in this case 999 out of 1000 people will have the right file and no issues. I may not want to be that 1 out of 1000 that have a corrupt download thus I check the MD5 to make sure what I downloaded is what was uploaded and wanted to flash.
Takes 2 min of my time and I know what I have is what I wanted

The archives you create, Intratech, are only "self-extracting" on windows machines. I myself sometimes use your files but, being on Linux, I have to extract them using p7zip... and hence, I don't believe they are "self-extracting".
This being said, if the .7z file is corrupt, there is some chance that p7zip refuse to extract it. However, I don't believe this is a fullproof way of testing the viability of the file (it might be corrupt but "not enough/not at the right place" for p7zip to refuse the extraction). Then again, md5 sums are not fullproof tests either, by definition...
PS: I don't know how .7z files work. They maybe contain some kind of key check the extractor can test. Thus, everything I told might simply be BS
I'd rather a self-extracting archive than having to actually manually check an MD5 myself.. I'm lazy like that.
I realise that if its a self-extracting archive then I'll need my PC to flash it but I can live with that

[Guide to] flash stock firmware using odin on your samsung galaxy s and rooting it.

DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU DO ANYTHING WRONG AND ANYTHING HAPPENS TO YOUR PHONE.
Their are many newbies joining xda daily and many of them want to update their android version so i thought of making a guide to flash stock firmware through odin( i could not find a proper guide so i am making one, if one already exists then sorry everyone)
Firstly, you can download stock firmwares and odin( new and old version) from www.sammobile.com
Now, many people have doubts in their mind that , is flashing firmwares made for any other continent safe? Well yes it is absolutely safe but you may face problems regarding phone signals but that happens very rarely and can be solved easily.
Procedure :-
* firstly, you must insure that kies is installed in your laptop or computer and you have once connected your phone through kies and kies detected your phone.
* then, download the firmware you want to flash.
*then extract the zip file.
*you will find 4 files in the extract( maybe youll find more but the rest are just extra stuff that is odin and all that, assuming you already downloaded odin you wont need it) that are a CSC.ZIP file, a CODE.ZIP file, a MODEM.ZIP file and a .PIT file( generally 512.PIT).
*now you must ensure that kies is killed and is not running.
* now ensure that your laptop has battery or it is charging or you will enjoy a ride to hell later if it switches off during the process of flashing ( i recommend to use a laptop as their is a chance that light may go off becasue of any reason and your computer switches off).
* now ensure your sgs has good battery (90%-100%) as their may occur a problem if it switches off.
* now open odin and add the 512.PIT (can be different-xxx.pit) in pit option.
* add MODEM.ZIP in phone option.
*add CODE.ZIP in PDA option.
*add CSC.ZIPin CSC option.
* then make sure that in the left area ( where their are some tickable boxes) you tick F RESET TIME AND AUTOREBOOT( REPARTITION may be ticked only when you want to change partitions or want to get them checked or if you want your sgs to be exactly new, wont clear sdcard, or if you are updating bootloaders).
*then check calmly if you have added all files correctly. ;-)
* then put your phone into download mode(VOLUME DOWN + HOME BUTTON + POWER BUTTON).
First switch it off then do this.
* then use your data cable that came with your sgs and connect your phone to your laptop.
* then take a deep breath and ask god to make everything go fine. ;-)
* click start and wait for odin to perform its magic.
* if everything goes well you are now moved to your desired stock samsung provided firmware and if everything didnt then see download is working or not and if it is then restart the procedure from beginning.
Hope i was help to everyone who needed this guide. HIT thanks button below.

Rooting you stock firmware.
ROOTING
DISCLAIMER: ROOTING WILL VOID THE WARRANTY OF YOUR PHONE WHICH CAME WITH YOUR PHONE WHEN YOU BOUGHT IT AND IS NOT MY RESPONSIBILITY, SO MAKE SURE THAT IF YOU WANT TO GO THROUGH OR NOT. AND ALSO IF ANYTHING HAPPENS TO YOUR PHONE IT IS NOT MY RESPONSIBILITY .
Ill take an example of cf-root which is as close to samsung's stock kernel as possible and is just basic root and nothing else.
You can download cf-root from chainfire's cf-root thread -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108
You can find download of cf-root for jvs(2.3.5) in the last post of his thread.
*now after downloading cf-root you need to extract it.
* now make sure your phone and laptop has good amount of battery.
*now open odin and click on pda and then add the cf-root xxxxx.tar file you extracted( just pda is required and nothing else)
*now make sure in the left area you have just ticked - F RESET TIME AND AUTOREBOOT and nothing else.
*now switch of your phone and move to download mode(VOLUME DOWN+HOME BUTTON+POWER BUTTON).
* now connect your Phone to your laptop using usb cable.
* now you will see that odin detected your phone and a yellow box has appeared in odin at the top right side.
* now click start and after some seconds your phone will be rooted and will automatically reboot.
* now enjoy and put any kernel or rom you want on your phone and get the best out your samsung galaxy s (be careful).
Hit thanks if I helped and you liked my post.
CREDIT : chainfire for his amazing, close to stock kernel cf-root. ;-)

Ya but that guide is dated and not everyone go to stickies so I created one here particularly flashing through odin.

@ OP: small suggestion.
I think you can make brilliant stats, and be famous in near future.
What I'd propose to you, start a new thread, lets think.... hm... maybe: how to unbrick your phone, and rewrite the full thread from sitckie: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134975
Well, do not feel offended, you have plenty of work, just by jumping from model to model and rewriting stickies....

Firstly, this is My last reply to any offender here.
I didnt really felt offended from such a low-life like you.
I made these guides cause I know about these things and i have tried them many times and I wont make a guide about unbricking because I havent tried it although I know how its done.
I made this guide because the one in the stickies was dated and I think ( its just my opinion) that mine is more detailed.
And I made the battery calibration guide cause I could not find one ( it may be their but its just that I could not find one easily so it is either unpopular or dated or not perfect and detailed).
Also its not that these topics are not necessary, you will surely find someone or another evrytime in general or q/a asking about these things or someone who is claiming that his/her battery is draining fast or acting wierd but doesnt know why.
I think I made my self very clear here so if anyone still feels that these are not needed and are spams then keep it to yourself.
hit thankxx if i helped. sent from my mind through telepathy (ya its possible)!
only one problem: your guides are.... copying/paste form stickies themes, which are clearly visible for all... with screenshots, credits and reference.
Of course, you can copy someone's parts, put it together and claim: mine is more detailed.
Hope, that someone will give your wife very clear and detailed orgasmus, and you will feel ok with that
and yes, I personally think that your post is "more detailed" then thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723596, because you have included much more information

Haha, another stupid post, I had to reply to this one cant help it.
Firstly I cant remember posting any screenshots , I have just referred to samfirmware.com( which is used by 99% people so if also I would have copied It , i would have ended posting this site's name only ), chainfire's thread-- I don't think their is another better thread to download latest versions of cf-root other than the official thread.
About copy-pasting -- thats why I called you a low-life, as you can only think -ve and cheap and hence thought I copied it but you should know I didn't ( believe it or not I dont care anymore ! ) copied it and swyped it.
Also you told me reading about stickies, I think YOU should read about xda rules before reading stickies which clearly state that their are under 18 s on xda ( I am myself 16) and so no adult matter should be used in your postings.
Also I am not married.
And sorry if you didnt find it offending ...........I know I must have tried better, maybe next time. ;-)
hit thankxx if i helped. sent from my mind through telepathy (ya its possible)!
1. Why do u think this way of posting will help someone looking for answers?
Only sticky posts stay on top in xda.
2. Should firmware and Odin be downloaded both "Firstly" and "*then"?
Asking because a useful guide must have a minimum of qualities. Proper English (as stated in forum-rules) and ordered progression.
A proper guide for Odin flashing stock or odexed ROM is NOT OUTDATED and elegantly delivered thanks to Ramad.
3. Why don't you PM the authors of sticky guides and offer your assistance in whatever needs updating?
4. Has Odin support for .zip files?
Tar is a more common format. Or even tar.md5
5. Which kernel devs. don't tell how to get THEIR (not there) build on your phone?

[MINI GUIDE] Easiest Soft Brick Escape - For the Desperate User

Over the internet there are various guides teaching the lesson 'how to get out of a soft brick.' Some guides can be hard to follow and very hoarse leaving a noob feeling like he/she has destroyed their device. Fear Not.This is a comprehensive guide for less experienced users who happen to find themselves in a soft brick.
Dictionary - Soft brick - the phone can still boot, and be flashed easily but in its current state is unusable.
- Hard brick - the phone cannot boot and requires additional devices to do so (USB Jig, Riffbox).
This is the quickest escape route on the interweb and you will be done in no time. Here we go:
First Download Flashtool. Here (You may download any version from the previous versions tab.)
Install Flashtool.
Find the stock firmware for your device. For the x8
E15i android 2.1.1 http://www.multiupload.com/VKNI6Q6ET5 (2.1.1.C.0.0 latest firmware)
Dictionary - stock firmware - latest version of software released by the manufacturer
After downloading the firmware. Extract the file. You will be left with a firmware file with .ftf as the ending.
Go into 'my computer' then 'flashtool' folder then 'firmware'. Then copy the .ftf file into that folder.
Close the folder.
Now to make sure that your phone is recognized by flashtool, go into computer then flashtool then drivers.
Now Install the driver for the x8.
Connect your x8 to your computer.
open the Flashtool program.
Click the bolt icon in the top left.
Select the name of the firmware you downloaded (2.1.1.C.0.0) in the left panel. it will highlight blue.
Click ok (bottom right).
A box will appear telling you to put your device into flash mode. Follow the instructions it gives.
Once this is done the box will dissapear and firmware will flash.
Finally device will reboot and phone will be back to normal.
Congratulations you have unbricked your device.
I hope you found this useful. Please thank me using the button if you appreciate my efforts. #
This is my first guide. Tell me what you think. Anything I could improve.
Very good guide, cause didn't know yet about this..very thanks..

nice and quick guide, i guess that what a paniced newbie search for!
suggestion:i think you should add about the installation of drivers,as many users come here telling that their phones is not recognized by flashtool
also change the 4-noobs at the title, is kidda disturbing...put "for" instaid of 4
There is about 100 threads about that. Just color of text and size is diferent!
guuuuuuuyyyyyyyyyyysssssssssss, dont attack him because he want to help,if you dont like it,ignore it!

I know what you are talking about, but as long as there are so many who make a new thread for asking help for a brick,I prefer having similar threads with the same information that will help people rather than having stupid threads that are useless after all.....

Thankyou for everyone's support. I have changed the '4' to 'for' in the title as suggested by stamatis16.
also
As someone who studied psychology, I know that people learn in very different ways. A guide from someone else may not help a certain person. Different fonts evoke different responses and speeds of learning. Different colours do similar things too. So in response to the 'there are millions of guides' argument, I say . Everyone learns differently and this may help someone desperate more effectively than any other. I know that when I needed this help none of the guides were as simple as the one I have composed.
In addition to this, please remember, I am spending my personal time to aid others. So negative flaming saying that my posts are 'not really helping' is always a let-down.
Thankyou once again for the support.
Special thanks lyhengboy stamatis16 for comments.
Guys, think of it this way. Its better for someone to make a new thread which will prevent 2000 threads asking the same topic.
Hmm OP can we merge this topic with the existing one with Lucas? You can always PM him for ideas
For now I agree that it is somehow odd to create extra thread for the same purpose for noob knowing that there is already an existing one. Very nice purpose but we need to be organized as well hugs.

I can understand that but I have clearly highlighted in my post before this one why I made a new thread. Please read it if you have not.
Also I would like to have my own 'branding' if you like, of guides and reviews. I try to spice each one up differently to combat that argument.
Thankyou very much for being kind when posting. Sorry if I come across as rude, I do not mean to be this way.
Q:Hmm OP can we merge this topic with the existing one with Lucas? we need to be organized as well
A: I would be very sad if you were to delete or move or zap this thread for the reasons you mention above. I have spent great periods of time composing and tailor making this for certain users. As a RC I hope you can understand my reasoning.
Thankyou once again.
EDIT: I have changed the title to make it seem 'different'. I also want to mention my 'dictionary' feature. I think this is different and may help my argument.
I fully understand you. Thy will be done
Can someone with a soft bricked X8 let me know if its possible to boot into safe mode?
Hold menu when booting.
Thankyou. I was a bit scared when you said you wanted to remove this post and 'merge it with another.' Great to know you are so supportive.
Yes, please do not merge this. I have benefited allot from this post. Merging it I think will take out the time put into to this. Plus, other people may not see this. I am happy the op decided not to merge.

I have no power either of merging nor deleting threads that's moderators job, we can only ask them. Have fun helping people

I don't have a soft or a hard brick. But I acknoledge you made a great guide and thank you anyway.
It was also useful because I am still considering if I should root my Galaxy Ace Duos GT-S6802 or not. And this made me realize that even if it bricks, it can be reverted. Do you have any idea if a hard brick is reversible? Also, in worst case scenario, can I simply download the software from samsung site and install it? Thanks. And sorry if I broke any rules here, I'm still a noob (still scared by the introdutory video haha)

I forget exactly what the bootloader file was called but your zipped rom should contain boot.img and a few folders like system, bla bla bla. To make sure, be sure that in your updater script, contains the correct mounting points/partition points so the zip rom can flash the stuff into the right areas. As long none of those mounting/partition stuff isn't leading to the bootloader. I would ask an Dev regarding those mounting points. I assume you ran this through a kitchen correct?

sm-t330nu bootloader is @

[i think] xD
there is no way you could possibly overwrite that with any rom build/mod , unless of course you are

M,
create an account at androidfilehost and apply for developer status so you
can upload there, or upload it to google drive or mega. I'd need to see what it
is you are actually working on. @sub77 makes a good point, if you won't
test out your own work then why get into it? You would be well served, as emoboy
does a lousy job of getting across, to suspend further question and do more
reading, reading, reading, especially my posts for a wonderful mix of lame humour,
dumb questions, insightful remarks, astute observations, bad spelling, and even
worse language in some situations ! xD

I would imagine because the filesize is too big, XDA has filesize limits for different file types, and I can't imagine an entire rom zip being smaller than the cut-off. Moonbutt74 is right (protip, he always is and even on the rare occasions he isn't he's still much cleverer than you or me), upload it to android file host (you do have to request developer status, but they should approve it within like an hour or two max iirc) or google drive if you're really too impatient to wait for android file host

Assuming you've already made an account and are logged into it, there is a drop-down menu on the upper right-hand corner of the page that should say, "Hey, <yourusername>" Click it and select settings. The fourth setting down under user settings > my preferences should be called "request developer/upload access", that's the one you're after

You need dev status for android file host, not google drive. When making posts use the Insert Link button to link to your upload links. Any file uploaded to your google drive that you allowed to be shared with the public should have its own URL. Any file you upload to android file host will definitely be given its own url. You can copy/paste that url into Insert Link into your post/thread
