We all know the HD2 can run most Mobile OS's.
WM6
WP7
Android 2.2, 2.3, 4.0
few others.
and now it's time to begin work to bring another platform to the HD2.
The target is, Tizen.
a combination of the mobile operating systems Moblin, created by Intel, and Maemo, created by Nokia. Development is led by companies gathered around Tizen Association, currently Samsung and Intel. Some former MeeGo developers also joined the effort.
the SDK requires Ubuntu.

and the source:

Currently there is no work for the HD2.
but we have to begin somewhere!
SUN OF A GUN!! even a pc dont have that much os!! Already itz upto 5,( 4 being active) and still...
Holy god pls 4give htc for making such a device. And pls provide your skills to devs..

New Linux platform for mobile phones/PDA.
New third-party companies are moving on to Linux platform. First OpenMoko, then Android and now ALP. How about making this OS available for all devices like what members here are using. I hope Android development for HTC device will come into totally full blown OS for HTC. But how about this APL, I believe they have opensource community.

could you explain this
its linux! for a pda/phone! ..... Nah I really don't know. but from the looks of it, its from the makers of netfront browser and widgets. And it looks like they are taking a stab at making a linux based phone much like android.
I see lots of people say when windows mobile 7 goes on our device it will be unbeatable, why is this? I dont really see much wrong with this one lol

I don't know about unbeatable but WM7 has gone through several delays as I'm sure Microsoft is aware that they are standing on there last leg to keep there (9%) of there mobile market shares, so......
...if Microsoft is smart, and it looks like they seem to be (delays signify that WM7 is not quite ready and thus, not rushing it), it should be a much improved Operating System as it has to compete against Symbian and Apple's and blackberry.
Market Shares:
Symbian....50.3%
Blackberry..20.9%
Iphone........13.7%
Windows.......9.0%
Andriod.......2.8%
WM 6.5 was was not even supposed to have existed but due to the delays, 6.5 was nothing more than a stand in, holding it's place for what some have anticipated to be revolutionary OS. Not sure if they will push through with that term when it actually comes out of the gates. Time will tell...
There isn't too much wrong with this one. Windows Mobile 6.5 is by far the most powerful mobile OS and it's getting bashed just because it lacks a nice and simple user interface.
Windows Mobile 7 will bring a new, hopefully exciting, user interface, probably based on Silverlight, new APIs for developers to create great applications that look and work much better than what we have now and better integration with Microsoft's services (Zune, XBox, Windows Live, Bing...).
On the other side, it will probably break compatibility with most, if not all, currently available applications.

And I think it should. The past should be scrapped to create a new future. Like OS9 to OSX and PalmOS to WebOS. Bring emulation if really needed.
Don't forget the new core of the CE which will fully support the new fast processors. That means we get an even faster phone.
windows 7 base on ce 6.0 core so ther wont be any backward compatibility.
Probably new core will be much stable and faster (support for FPU) and some othre stuff.
will windows mobile 7 be freely avalible on hd2? some sites are saying yes and others are saying no. it is my understanding that wm 6.5 and wm7 will co-exist, with wm7 aimed at high end devices (i assume because of the higher system requirements). would be good if HTC gave the hd2 wm7, as it would really open up the device in terms of performance and features.

Nobody knows yet.
My guess is that there will not be an official HTC release of it, for the same reason as there hasn't been any official WM6.5 upgrade for the Touch HD - WM7 is due to launch at about the same time as the successor to the HD2 (Q4 this year), and allowing HD2 users to upgrade easily to WM7 would cannibalise sales of the HD3 (or whatever it's called); HTC would obviously prefer people who want to upgrade to WM7 to buy a new HTC phone to do it.
I've no doubt that attempts will be made by the ROM "chefs" on this site to produce "cooked" ROMs for the HD2 based on WM7. However, this may be a much tricker proposition than, say, producing a WM6.5 ROM for a Touch HD, as WM7 is based on an entirely different Operating System kernel and uses a new driver model. That means that unless there is some reference device which uses exactly the same hardware as the HD2 and runs WM7 and whose drivers the ROM chefs can pirate, it's not going to work.
Would it be possible to run Windows Phone 7 on the Xoom you think. I know theJPhone part won't work. But just to see how it might look and run. Just a thought.

Windows 7 isn't supported on Tegra processors. Thats why you won't be able to install it.
i hope noone who has the ability to maybe realize that is trashing his abilities so hard.
Maybe Windows 8 as its supposed to support ARM processor instructions. Start looking for a leaked beta soon.
Also for future reference only post in the Development section if your developing something (an application or ROM). This doesn't include asking about developing something.
Hey All,
So can I just ask why?
I mean I have a Windows Phone 7 phone as my backup/work phone (benefit of being in IT I get to not order my self a blackberry or an Iphone) and I can honestly say its a nice device and have owned 3 different generations of Zunes. Battery life is excellent and the UI is nice and clean and it works well. If I wasn't as vested as I was in android I would possibly consider making that the OS of my primary phone (which is currently a Droid X) once they have them on good old Verizon and HDMI out. That being said even good old Microsoft (who I actually really like) has said Windows Phone 7 is a phone only OS and not meant to be run on tablets. The whole design of the OS actually kind of falls apart if you imagine it on a large display since its novelty instead of having sub windows have everything on one horizontally long display, with the sub menu features essentially hidden off screen.
Now as for Windows 7, as of this point it wouldn't be possible. Windows 7 currently supports only x86 and x64 chips and google stopped supporting these processor types in android after 1.6. Which is the odd reason why some of those new dual boot android/win7 tabs all use android 1.6. So to pull off a main stream Windows OS on this tablet you will have to wait for Windows 7 Embedded (which is win 7 + mobile cpu/gpu support) or Windows 8.
Once they release an offical beta of Win 7 Embedded I have a funny feeling it will be ported to all sorts of devices

Shame
Reading the replies for that gentleman post is like reading a rude war against someone who is just asking a very simple question in an open forum, well people you all shouldn't be that rude to him.. replying with some helping words is better than posting harsh words.. aren't you all knowing what is the meaning of being "Polite"?
may be some day..
it would be a huge undertaking to do something like this.
however, despite feelings running high and peoples obvious favour toward android i do think it would be great to be able to run Windows7 or Windows Phone 7 on the Xoom.
Take as an example the HTC HD2 - its a windows mobile device that now supports the following list of operating systems..
windows mobile ce
windows phone 7 series
android stock
android sense
linux ubuntu - kubuntu
maego
windows95-98 ( emulation )
this is simply because some very talented developers locked on to the HD2 as it was the first superphone with a big screen and big power, and it came along before Android had such devices available...
back to the XOOM - i doubt we will ever see this sort of porting wizardry on our Xooms but nothing is set in stone, if someone could create something like MAGLDR (see HD2 forums) but for the Xoom then we could all enjoy a huge range of operating system choices.
Also, we all need to be aware that for the most part devices are perfectly able to run all sorts of operating systems in theory but as they are mass produced by manufacturers the way they are today we don't get to enjoy the fully unlocked benefits that we could.
imaging buying a pc and finding it wasn't possible to install LINUX instead of Windows !! - you would take it back to the store !!
Okay so i haven't offered a solution here - but lets not stop the imagination of others providing ideas that may some day become possibilities. and lets all hope that some day we can buy tablets like we buy pc's, with the ability to be loaded with a choice os O/S solutions.

Now the only device I'v see that can both run android and wp7 is HTC HD2. And I don't know why no developers want to let wp7 in other device. I've used android for 6 months and just use wp7 only 1 month. But I think the wp7 let applications more efficient. And I think if let this system in the powerful dual-core tablet can let this more strong. Now some one can let Ubuntu run in A500. And is possible to run wp7 in it?
WP7 is closed-source and would be extremely difficult to port over to this chipset, especially since there is no build of WP7 optimized for Tegra 2 yet.

WP7 devices were being outsold by WebOS devices by almost 2:1. WebOS is officially gone due to the lack of any profit HP was able to yield from it. Why would you want to let MS infect another bit of hardware like android tablets?
WP7 on HTC is sweet...
but I don't think it's optimized for tablet usage...
waiting win8

I've already notice it, but I think nvidia want to let its chip on other OS platform. The tegra wp7 is coming soon.
You're right about that and one problem they are having with Win 7 on touch devices is that it's not designed for touch devices. Supposedly Win 8 will be, but it's not out yet.

Is there any way to put Windows 8 on a Dell Streak 7? I'm not a dev, but I have followed tutorials for hacking many devices so I'm not completely in the dark on most subject matter. I would love to take android the **** off and put this new new on!
Unfortunately not yet the dev-version is i386 only however support for ARM processors is confirmed. So just wait on an ARM release and hope that the Streak has the specs to run it.

Thanks for the info! I wasn't sure, but if they do release an arm copy for devs then I'll be all on it!

Your going to have real trouble installing an operating system that uses the NTFS file system on a nand chip formatted in the EXT3 file system. The bootloader structure and partition structure is also incompatible with the OS as it stands
Interesting........ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-0M0vMkh18
If I can get W8 on a S7 after my HTC Wildfire jaunt into Android I'm in as I'm not sold on A as it is still in infancy & developing slowly as hell, with all credit to developers and hackers your doing a great deal with Android & Google seem to be riding on your achievements and not wholelly giving you great support like Microsoft innovation - Windows8 and Windows Phone 7.5 look like stealing 2012 from Google/Android & the VERY disappointing iOS5/4S.
The developer preview will only run on x86 or x64 devices, not ARM.
