[Q] Help - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am a noob at all of this, I have a nook color and I was hoping someone could help me root it and put honeycomb on it. I don't know where to begin. I have read about cyanogen mod and deeper blue but I don't know where to download them or which one I should use?

If you want CM7 on the nook (not the SD card) I would suggest reading thru my post asking the same thing, helped me a lot and you can see the end result.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1442509
1. go thru the directions that CobyHoff posted on the first page to just get rooted
2. after that use my wiki link that I posted on the last page to get CM7 installed
Hope that helps

Long story short, you don't want Honeycomb. Install the mirage-kang CM7.2.

[Q] Please help advanced user get back to CM7 from Stock 1.0.1

I had my Original Nook Color Since the 1.0.1 days. I rooted it and had it running everything for over a year. I went through the early froyo days and PhireMod days ect.... Recently I been running CM7 via sdcard. Well I tried some stupid things with my boot loader and messed up both loaders on the uSD and emmmc. Anyways ... after reading close to 100 messages and following many many old broken links, I have finally (via adb) got my nook back to stock 1.0.1 and running.
I am tech savy and know a bit about linux. And a lot about how the nook works. But my mind is fried after all this. SO I am asking for some help. Like I said, I currently have a working nook running stock 1.0.1 (with old broken wifi even) So my router is wide open so I can have wifi that works on nook. Anyway Please advise me were to go from here.
I would like to get CM7 running again via my sd-card. I would also like to update to Stock Nook 1.4.1 (on emmc) (so I can use their new comic reader) but that is not my main focus. If I can do that and dual boot then fine. But my real goal is just to get back to CM7 nightlies.
Do I need to nooter again ? Can some kind sole please point me in the correct direction or just walk me through what I need to do... I am tech savy so you could spell it out quickly if needed. I do have adb working and I have 2 empty sdcards.
ANYTHING would help my brain from overloading LOL.
Thank you so much.
PS... I have helped many many many people over the last 2 years both here in the Nook world and in the ANdroid forums.
Peace
Come on guys.... 75 views and not 1 bit of help. : (
I'll just keep waiting...
Thanks again

You have double posted and were answered on the other thread. You don't expect people to answer the same question twice do you? Or do you think they are different questions?
Eyeballer told you how to get to stock 1.2 in his guide. If you have wifi working, I would think it would update by itself from there.
The guide for making CM7 bootable SD is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12240928
And you don't have to root emmc to do it.

[DISCUSSION] - CM9 discussion thread

As I posted in the dev thread let's bring the chit chat into the general forum and keep the dev thread on topic and clear for people to help the devs move this rom forward.
So this thread is for all the GENERAL CM9 discussion.

Despite this, people will still go to the development thread to ask questions, request features, banal talks... etc.
Maybe use this thread to summarise FAQ's found in the other thread (and subsequently this thread)
Edit the first post to stay on top of things?
In summary, no exfat on CM9, use ext4 format if you must have files over 4Gb (that's all I know so far, I don't have CM9 installed yet)
*subbed*
Get xplod to put a link to this thread in the development OP? A link to that thread from here wouldnt hurt either
is there a way to block calls in cm9? (without having to install an apk from the market)
I don't have phone yet; however, was wondering if on cm9, do you still have the same camera function as with touchwiz, like fast burst, best shot, taking pic while recording? I don't really care about losing s voice.

Just wondering if anyone knew of a video player with live previews (in thumbnails) like the original one.
By the way great rom, I moved from Galaxy S II and was surprised to find it on the S III so fast.

I don't think that's what he was looking for. And I'm not sure if you can just apply the crt animations from CM9 to stock ROM.

If it's like on linux i guess you need to install an mtp library to get it working (i.e. mtpfs).

Android File Transfer worked fine on stock using PTP and works great with my friends Gnex. Googled mtpfs for OS X but nobody seems to have had any success.
Hope codeworkx & XpLoDWilD are able to get mass storage working.

Would Android beam on CM9 work with S-beam? Ie someone on stock samsung rom uses s-beam to communicate with me on android bean, no issues?
Could we use NTFS on the 64Gb SD card on the GSIII using CM9?
If not.. could I somehow parition the microSD card into x2 32Gb partitions, one ext4 the other ExFAT that way I can run with this until one of the other prevails? I only like copying data once....

[Q] Upgrading from custom nookie froyo 2.2

About a year ago, I successfully installed custom nookie froyo 2.2.1 on my nook internal sd following a youtube video (created a bootable micro sd, etc.) I actually surprised myself that it worked out since I’m no tech wizard!
Although everything is working fine, I now want to upgrade to CM 7 since I feel it’s now a bit laggy.
My question is:
Do I have to repeat the whole process (bootable SD, etc.) or is there a shortcut I can take ? If so, can you link me to a walkthrough? If not, can you also link me to a recent good walkthrough so I can repeat the process?
Thanks for the input!
Greetings from Vienna

ALL NST Stock Apps Request

Can I obtain all of the stock apk's that come with an unrooted NST? I want to see if I can run an NST environment on my CM7 NookColor. If I can get these apk's I will make a custom firmware for the NST.
And yes, I have an NST.

Download the latest firmware from B&N and pull the apk's from there. You also might want to join the NST CM7 thread.

Alright then. I'll be compiling this firmware if you need me!
Sent from my NookColor using xda app-developers app
You're not going to be able to get the unmodified Reader.apk or ReaderRMSDK.apk to run.
They use android.hardware.EpdController
You'll have to either stub in the class or modify the apk.
Alright. I read this message while I was having issues with them. Ill try to fix them manually. Thank you.

I successfully unzipped the firmware download on a windows machine, but I no longer have access to it. When I try to extract the files from the Zip on my mac, it cycles through zips and tar.gz's infinetly. When I try to extract it on my NC with rom toolbox, it says, "failed to extract tmp.zip"
Any suggestions?

After flashing (with CWM) what I would have posted as alpha-1 to test it, I am pleased to say that the Nook Simple Touch just sucks.
What happened:
I built the ROM entirely from Eclair source-code and the Nook's stock software. I flash the ROM to test it and BAM, bricked. I looked over what I had built again, and again, and EVERYTHING should have worked. (Yes, I checked superuser, etc.) Frustrated, I recompiled the majority of the firmware, and reflashed, after restoring to pure stock. This time, it boots to the Android Launcher, which is what I intended, but then, I click on The Android Market Icon, and it says: "Barnes & Noble permissions breach detected, factory resetting." It shuts down, boots up without resetting and then when booted says that Android Launcher, System UI, etc. Has crashed, reboots, factory resets (???), and then boots up to the Nook welcome screen. I skip OOBE, and factory reset once more.
Now, I am selling this useless Ereader, and will use the money to contribute to the purchase of a Nook HD, which now ships with Google play installed. With the Nook HD, I wont have to deal with this crap, because it is a TABLET unlike the Nook Simple Touch, which is and will always be, just a black and white Reader.

Hello Mineturtle33, as I wrote in the other thread,
First of all I want to really say you thanks for your efforts trying to port CM7 to our Nook Touchs...
I and more people like me appreciate very much your work, and we know the how useful would be updating our Nook Touch to Android 2.3 because every day more, developers cut support and compatibility for older Android versions like the our...
I known it's only a BW tablet, but I thinks that in its area is still the best, the only with maybe limited but support for apk, only missing with newer apps is the flaw.
So in name of mine and many people like me on this and the another forum I say to you: Please don't give up!
At the moment you seems the only with the knowledge that can reach it.
I will also be pleased also to make a symbolic offer of the 25$ if instead of sell your nook, you can just make some more try on it.
Count me also for beta-testing also if dangerous
You are our only hope

Thank you for your support. I just want to let you know, I will keep trying, though, release #1 will most likely be Android 2.1. When we make progress on porting CM7, I promise that I will do a 2.3 release. While thinking about what I will name this ROM it popped into my head, SnowMOD? (since it's white) Is that a good name? Anybody else have name ideas? I will make an official progress thread later. Don't worry about give ng me 25$. I don't really need it.
I can test the new custom rom once significant progress is made.

[q]aokp q & a

I figured I'd start a thread for this ROM.
My first question or bug report not sure which...
When turning on 2G networks only, it changes preferred networks to GSM only.
Makes sense.
Only problem is when coming out of 2g only mode, it changes the preferred network to wcdma not LTE.
There a way to change that or that just how its designed?
Thanks.

This thread will be obsolete once i get the official Q & A thread started. It will be kinda like the one i have for the sgs3 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1781242. I'm already working on it.
In the mean time, may I ask if sdxc 64gb cards are supported in exfat? My stock rom had no problems with it but aokp won't mount it saying, "blank or unrecognized card."
Do I need to format to fat32?
TWRP still recognizes and reads files of of the card with no issues.
Thanks task.

Twrp still reads it because it's a 4.2.2 aosp problem (I'm pretty sure at least). I am curious if formatting the card would help but I doubt it b/c it didn't help on 4.2.2 on the s3. It's a minor inconvenience but personally I'm just glad to get TW off this thing. Thanks Task! I didn't think the first build would be really buggy or anything but I did expect some minor issues on the first build. Couldn't have been more wrong though, is so fast and stable it's not even funny.

If he needs a step by step video of how to install the ROM then I would suggest him to not flash anything to his device until he reads up on these things more. Otherwise I see him bricking his phone in the near future.

How is that even possible? The instructions are simple and slapped right in your face. 1, make sure you have OUDHS, 2, full wipe then flash. Couldn't possibly get any easier and if people can't figure that out then they should not be modding hardware

Easy as Pie to flash task roms it already has the kernel in it. it's full proof!
Does it takes some time for the Task650 ROM to fully leverage and use the battery to its maximun potential?, with the Stock TW ROM I was getting around 0.5[%/hr] battery usage/drainage with the phone fully idle, measured by BetterBatteryStats, right now I am getting around 3.5[%/hr] battery usage/drainage with Task650 AOKP ROM, comments are welcome, thanks
NOTE: I've been measuring Deep Sleep with CPU Spy and with BOTH ROMs Deep Sleep will be around 93% to 97%
