Vertical/Kinetic app scrolling in ICS - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hey Guys!
So I've been messing around with trying some of the new ICS ROMs for my HD2, but keep coming back to Typhoon CyanogenMod. I'm down for taking another crack at an ICS ROM, but one of the most infuriating things is the horizontal app panels. I vastly prefer the kinetic scrolling app drawer of the earlier builds; I don't need to see every set of apps when they're listed alphabetically and I know the one I want starts with a 'W'.
Is there a known mod, tweak, patch, update, or customization widget I can use to get a vertically scrolling app drawer back in ICS?
Thanks =)
Joey

Would one of these gingerbread launchers work on ics like adw or similar launchers I thought I read of ppl using them I haven't tried I kinda like the vertical scroll hope this helps

Suggestion: rotating transition

Sorry if this has been brought up before but ever since I bought a G1 (I pre-ordered that phone as well) I always wondered if android was ever going to get a rotation transition. You know like the one that wm7 phones have when you switch between landscape and portrait. ios devices have it as well. Can rom developers add stuff like that to their roms? This is just me being curious.

Probably something that Google would have to provide, as it would have to be platform-wide. But really, is this even necessary?
I never liked how choppy it looked when switching orientation. I like smooth transitions into things. Isn't necessary but would make android look a little smoother.

Liberated Aria FR007 speed?

Is anyone else having the issue of the FR007 being slow and laggy? When I scroll through all my apps, there is a huge lag. And the sliding of the home screens have some lag in it too. Is it just my aria or something that I did wrong while rooting/flashing? If there's a way to fix this, please tell. I really like FR007, but am thinking about switching back to R012. Thanks in advance.

Simply put, even with the stock kernel, no.

Did you do a full wipe before flashing the new rom
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App
Yeah. I did a nandroid backup and then wipe data. And then flashed.

No lags here. May some service or app working in background?
their is some noticeable lag, the stock rom from att is deff faster but isn't nearly as clean ;(
OP, I had the same problem, ended up going back to R012. I was sad.
I was using CM6.1 rc2 until my apps started closing (dolphin browser hd, Rom gripper, etc.) Then I switched to liberated fr007 and haven't had one issue. The only thing that ever gave me a lag was overclocking widget, live wallpaper, and using an alternative home screen (ADW. Launcher, Home++)
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App
Yeah it lags for me. Especially if I use Pandora radio

Try this.
Go to market and get Overclocking Widget.
Put the widget anywhere on your homescreen.
Tap it, grant it SU permissions, you will probably have to tap it again for it to display.
Now on the 2nd slider that says Maximum set it all the way to the right.
Uninstall the widget, whichever method you prefer and the lag problem will probably go away.
* uninstalling the widget makes it where it won't automatically slow your phone down when it hasn't been in use for a while, which means you have to mess with the slider every time you unlock your phone.
** this may also have a negative impact on your battery, but if your like me and charge your phone every night it shouldn't be a problem.

You shouldn't be using an overclocking widget or setcpu with the stock fr rom- it will result in more lag and unpleasantness than you started with. The stock kernel simply doesn't support over or underclocking.
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App
It doesn't support OVER clocking or UNDER clocking, but setting the processor works just fine--there is no issues, that's what saved my battery life actually & the phone runs great.
There is no need to set the processor with a third party app if you are using the stock kernel. Hell, even cm6.1 defaults to 600 making setCPU optional. I saw on the other thread that you think developers too often blame apps for malfunctions but I think you will find that devs and contributors are just as sick of newbies spreading misinformation and not listening to sound advice and attributing their own folly to wrongly defamed software. If I were anyone reading this thread I would encourage you to be wiser than I and let this, and other new troll threads die before they begin.

until we get a decent kernal that supports OC, you're just messing things.
I just end up running slower and stuttering in many apps.

[Q] Are there any apps to invert colors?

Hello.
I am rooted, using the stock rom.
Is there an app to invert colors on SMS, and say, Internet application?
Example: White letters, black background.
Don't know about stock but cyanogen roms has this feature built in.
Handcent SMS will let ya do that for your text
Thanks guys, I checked out both, tried CM7 a few weeks back, but was too glitchy on my phone, and things weren't working. I wil try it again in a few weeks after they have some more dev time.
Many messaging apps from the market let you customize the appearance or apply themes. I personally like GO SMS.
if you tried CM7 a few weeks ago and it was too glitchy for you, the latest CM7RC2 was dropped this week also TeamRoyal just dropped the latest version of RoyalGinger and they are both super stable and very quick TR:RG is definitely faster and so far more stable for me.
Wooooo! Thanks for the heads up on GO SMS, and also, thanks for the updates on the ROM's Raven, I am checking both out now!
Question... This is only a customization locally, right? I realize that fonts and other formatting would not appear in the recipient of sms, but with inverted text, I imagine there may be ways (and certainly using apps which are mutually installed) that the recip could get the sms inverted too....without the recipient needing to install anything.

There's Javascript for that
That problem appeared a long ago, and one guy made a javascript for doing this, inverting colors in a browser; no root needed, just add his page as a bookmark, and use it, whn you want
tonymuka.com/js (i am kinda new here; not allowed to post links, and stuff)
Also, I heard Boat browser have this function..

(Hint) Touchwhiz Launcher

I don't know if anyone has posted this but I found a little trick that made me say "well duh that makes sense."
So I actually like the touchehiz launcher but was having a tough time keeping my apps straight with the new 2.3.3 version as it only allows an editable grid or alphabetical list. I tried adding an old modded version but got a force close. When I restored all my apps were alphabetical in a grid view again. I went about moving the apps around and then went to settings/application/all and cleared the data of TWLauncher and my apps are again alphabetical.
The downfall of doing this is you lose your Widgets but after awhile its the easiest way to clean up the app drawer.

Dude I know a lot of new people here will be delighted to know that but that has been known since anyone posted about wanting to rearrange apps in apps drawer. Nice though that you have the courage to post it again.
Well I may have just forgotten since I've become so accustomed to the modded tw launcher and know that we don't yet have a modded version for GB. I'm sure there is more than one or two frustrated trying to keep all their apps in order right now.

Go dig yourself a hole under that ungrateful bridge of yours.
Well know one, but the best method is download an app in market which can sort the Twlauncher in alphabetical order without cleaning the widget together.
It is call TouchWiz Application Sorter
+1 for the Application Sorter

Custom User Interfaces

Ok, I really am not liking Sense UI anymore. I don't really like MIUI or Vanilla Gingerbread. I would like to know where to begin in creating my own custom user interface to run over Gingerbread. Or perhaps a simpler task would be porting over other user interfaces from Motorola and Samsung to run over Gingerbread.

Why not use go launcher or adw or launcher pro. They will replace sense...

Hmm, never thought about that. Nice idea. But I guess my main purpose in making this was to see if anyone has (and can help me) created my own custom UI. It'd be nice I guess.

First you would need to learn Java and C+ coding. Next I would learn Linux as android is Linux and you will need the knowledge to work on the UI.
Have a good look through the 'post your homescreen' thread. There's a wealth of inspiration in there. Have a look in the widget thread too.
Unless i'm wrong it's not the UI that you want to change as such, but what we'd call a Layout. For all intents and purposes it's the same thing. but UI is software whereas layout is graphical. End result being you want homescreens that look nice right?
Good Launcher+Good Widgets+Wallaper+Imagination and you'd be surprised how good you can make your device look. Some of what i see in the Homescreen thread are works of art!

Well, What I really want to do is make my own thing. I mean a couple of starter ideas,
- 6 basic home screens (in a cube shape) you can change when slid vertically or horizontally
- 2-4 (based on how many you want) "tabs" on the side of choice that can hold apps, home screens would mainly be for widgets, can also be used for apps though.
I don't know, Its just ideas I wanted to be able to put into my own UI. I think I may get into coding to make my own UI.
Check out an open source launcher, it will give you an idea of how to do crap, beyond whatever is in the API docs. I think ADW is open sourced.

I would start with flashing a non sense ROM. Thus you'll get rid of sense bloat and will get a stock standard launcher or any other customizable launcher. Just look through available Roms. Personally I'd recommend CM 7.
