I have the Impulse 4G (AT&T) and it's running offical 2.2.2
Its rooted, bloatware is gone, overclocked, and runs smoothly.
My question is, is gingerbread worth it on this device?
Sent from my Huawei U8800-51 using xda premium
Longer battery life is definitely worth it.
Longer battery life ( at least two days), more smooth UI, touch screen alot better, I am happy with this update!
You may loose 3g and GPS support

I'm new to Xda but not to droid forums.
I just wanted to say wow! What a difference between the two. People are talking about stuff for the droid x and I'm totally lost. That's awesome!!
Can someone point me to where I can get a few questions answered about CM9?

Thanks. That's where I got all my info before I switched to CM9. After week of using it, I'm switching back to stock. The main reason is because the battery life sucks even with all syncing off and touch sounds and a few other things done to try to conserve battery.
My battery was at 40% when I left work yesterday with only light Facebook and web browsing.
Also some apps not working very good on it is another reason I'm switching back.

ICS roms haven't been perfected yet, but if your looking for a good user experience with decent battery life, you should try DefX MIUI.

yeah, wizard's MIUI has been the best for awhile now in terms of great battery life and full functionality. i've tried the ICS roms out there for the droidx but battery life was abysmal. i like having the latest android system but not if you have to trade great battery life for poor battery life.
I am running cm9 with a build date of April 24th (build number: IMM76D).
And i love it. It is super fast. the only complaint i have is that when long pressing home to get to the recent apps list it takes about 1-2 secs. Other than that its great. everything works except video (sometimes) and panoramic shots. the battery life isnt too bad. but i have had bad battery problems for a while.
I've been running the latest nightly (20120722) for a few days now with less than stellar battery life. It seems that everytime I run an AOSP rom the main battery culprits appear to be cell and phone idle, where's with a Sense rom, it' the screen. I have a relatively new battery. I'd say moderate use, typically.
Anyone have suggestions on getting better battery life with CM7? I'm running the stock kernel at 245/800, ondemand, deadline. Also running V6 supercharger at 5.
Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I've gotten 12+ hours today of cm7.2 7/15 nightly and barely at 50%
Did lots of recordings and such.
Dunno
I don't use the v6 script, or do any mods at all.
Just run it as is.
Stock battery too.

Yeah I've gone back to 7/15 to see if it's any better. I seem to remember it being better; I'll report back later today. Still curious why cell standby is the main battery eater on CM7 (or AOSP ROMs in general) as compared with say, SSX or newSENSE, which was the display...

Aosp shows true signal where Sense won't. So AOSP having a cell standy over display sounds about right. Sense always thinks it has signal and AOSP has no signal thanks to sprint. In my area Sprint blows, so that's what I *think

This is better.. I went back to the previous nightly (20120715) for a few days now. Still moderate use.
I'm currently running the stock kernel at 245/1.21, ondemand, deadline. Without V6 supercharger and I didn't flash the ICS theme either.
Perhaps the 20120722 nightly did not play well with my device.

If V6 SuperCharger is not setup correctly, or the setting is to high. Your Battery life can take a hit.
Im using the U8800Pro.. running ICS 4.0.3 stock, rooted. For some reason my device wont last for a day.. drains a lot of battery. Any idea why ?? Thank you
Sent from my U8800 using xda premium
Well, battery drain is a well known issue concerning the ICS...
Meanwhile you should, first of all, see what app ou service is getting the higher dose of drain, check if some app is on background consuming, overclocking, etc etc. Did you make your wipes when upgrading? too many issues i donĀ“t know if you already covered...
close the wifi bluetooth gps when you dont use them.

Hi, im stay at malaysia, recently sammobile confirmed that the latest 4.1.2 firmware update having more faster battery drain than previous (4.1.1).
But im really wonder why i got opposite feedback from 2 malaysia user regarding the lastest 4.1.2 ugrade.
Both of my friends just a normal smartphone user. They dont know about rooting and custom rom. They completely using everthing stock as provided by samsung.
They both told me and showed me that their on screen time able to last 7 hours ++ with 3g data fulltime on. Whole circle of battery usage able to last longer about 26 hours.
But for your information they both not the type of heavy gamer. They both just will keep browsing, facebook and social chatting.
From their feedback, the lastest ugrade having better battery performance than 4.1.2.
Im not asking a question here, but just for sharing. Since myself never officially ugrade thru kies or ota.
Im wonder samsung has did some minor tweak on malaysia latest 4.1.2 firmware.
Maybe some of the n7100 developer might gonna use that build as a based to build custom rom.
Thank you.

I'm running a custom ROM based on XXDLL7 on my SGH-I317M (Canadian Note II) and the battery life is just as good, if not slightly better than it was before. I did a full wipe after flashing, so perhaps old data from 4.1.1 is what is causing some people to have issues.

You are right, im always suggest my friend perform factory reset after ugraded from ota or kies.
But this case a bit different. They never perform factory reset after ugraded. But still having experienced that battery performance much more better than 4.1.1.

This is True, most People getting 10hrs screen time with 3days on are not using 3g data and no sync and so on, everything is depending on how you use your Phone even when you don't use it.

My battery life went down after the update, all else being equal. Would a factory reset really help? I'd have to do one anyways to revert I guess.

Hmm...about the factory reset after ugraded, i think this is very subjective. Since samsung never advice their user need to perform this.
But for myself, i will perform and download again all the previous app to make sure everything running properly without any fc.

But i never experienced ota or kies ugrade.
But in other way, 99% me will perform full wipe everytime install new custom rom.

I totally agree with you. I f you are not using the functions of 'SMARTPHONE' what is the use of your phone? Is it just to show how much battery you conserved? Can anybody show 6 Hrs. of internet and 8 hours of videos in this so called battery life of 3 'days'?
I just cannot understand why people are running so much after battery life?
If you use you lose that is the law!
It can be understandable if without using anything one is losing the battery then it certainly is an issue.
IMHO those who conserve battery do not enjoy their phones at all!!!
That's true, that's why the new fw is such a pain in the ass with its poor battery!

Thanks for all posted comment. All solid opinion and experienced.
Actually im just wanna to sharing that, it was proof that ( from samobile.com) the latest 4.1.2 having poor battery performance if compare to 4.1.1. But in another way, my both friends also proof to me that they having significant improvement of battery performance from the latest 4.1.2 malaysia firmware. ( im personally checked their battery status and they are not lie to me).
We should put aside the battery performance for certain rom, kernel, personal setting and personal usage.
Since they having the same setting and same installed app as previous after ugraded to 4.1.2. And they also using the phone like usual or before upgraded.
So from my point of view, im just wanna find out isnt it the latest 4.1.2 malaysia firmware might having some different tweak from samsung than other 4.1.2 build such as LL7?

This is kinda a good news though.
For this time I can't upgrade my SGN2 firmware either via Kies or OTA.
I don't know what's wrong but I figure out something later.
I'm using my SGN2 on Stock Rom and for me SGN2 Stock Rom (4.1.1) is quite good.
Usage :
Full Charge - 0830
Mobile Data On - 1000
Activity - 1100 ~ 2200 - Viewing Facebook, texting a bit in Whatsapp, web browsing
On call - 2200 ~ 0000
Phone Standby - 0000 ~ 0730
And I still have another 6% of battery.
Can't wait to update the firmware.
:good:

Exactly. Everything is an anecdote unless the battery life was tested via an app like Battery Monitor Widget before and after the update for at least several days to register the consumption per hour in both standby and regular use.
Anything else, especially screen time, is purely subjective.
anyone facing after upgrade, phone will auto restart or shut down by itself?
I don't have any battery issue with DLL7. Battery consumption was the same even with DMA5. Even now with DMA6 consumption still the same.

Battery consumption is not my main concern. Most important for me is that I use and abused my note2 to my heart's content and enjoy using it. I'm happy that my battery can last for a day. I charge my N2 when I'm in the car, office and at home. This has been going on since I bought it last October'12. I have not notice any difference at all in battery consumption in all updates right from the stock 4.1.1 rom that came with it.

I want to upgrade my phone by purchasing this one, and I wonder if this device with a Custom ROM and JB tweaks works with zero lag.
I'm stuck with this or a S3.
Do you guys recommend me one Galaxy Nexus?
Sent from my MT27i using xda premium
I had the galaxy nexus. It was okay but I definitely felt the old hardware in day to day performance. I would go for the nexus 4. It's pretty much future proof of 2 years or so. As for custom rom there are really good ones here.

It will be fine since I will use it for app development and gaming.
Sent from my MT27i using xda premium
I was mainly deciding between a Nexus 4 and a used S3 (since they can be had for 200$), I ended up getting a Nexus 4 from the carrier due to the monthly payment of 17$ for 24 months (basically for the 16GB model which I could have gotten direct from google for 350$, I'm paying bout ~60 interest for basically a loan when you think bout it).
Namely for two reasons.
1) It's nearly impossible to hard-brick, and just as easy to unlock (though an S3 wouldn't be that difficult either)
2) Google will continue to provide OS updates for it at the very least for the next 2 maybe 3 years if you want AOSP or any roms based on AOSP.
Reasons I considered the S3:
- Longer battery life (both phones have a 2100mAh battery, but the S3's battery can be user-replaced)
- Can be had decently lower price used (~200-250 since the S4 is out now)
- Has a microSD slot, so could pop in a 64GB micro-SD card
- higher megapixel user-side camera (1.9MP vs 1.3MP)
- will support USB-OTG (Nexus4 will not and it's not capable of it on the hardware level).
I'm somewhat new to the Nexus4 itself, but so far with the custom rom SlimBean I've had zero lag, and short of google wallet (probably rom related, I resolved it with titanium backup), I haven't had a problem yet.
to me nexus devices are the only ones that i have ever had where i don't need to use a custom rom its already stock and using custom ones generally add features which i for don't really use or want.
easy to root, and with a custom kernel its truly an amzaing device.
having said that if you want smooth, this is about as smooth as any other device out atm HOWEVER android is going to get a massive speed (and potentially battery) boost with the next android version due to changes in the UX rendering system and limiting draw calls.
so the nexus 4 can only get better imo.
but if you can hold out till novemeber maybe wait for the the new nexus and a hardware boost (and probably a 1080p screen)
A custom ROM gives more speed, but with stock is enough? No lags?

Stock on Google devices are about as slimmed down as you can get of any stock devices, I know plenty of people who are happy with stock-rooted.
Custom roms can do a lot of things not just speed.
