*random shut off?!* - Droid X General

I've heard of a lot of people having their android phones power off randomly, but mine happens about once a day if using my phone frequently. Its a shot in the dark I know. Does anyone have a fix? I WOULD STRONGLY APPRECIATE IT! thank you.

If you haven't tried a factory reset, that would be the first step. If the problem is still present you may want to check the battery contacts. Ultimately the problem could be hardware related. I have had a few different devices replaced for warranty in the past for that same reason. Good luck.

If you SBF and the problem persists, it is hardware related; otherwise, just format you data.

Well. I have tried to factory reset multiple times and got a new phone... is it possible that it is my sd card? Thank you for your inputs

I highly doubt it, but you can remove the SD card and see if the problem persists.

Strange issue, please help.

Alright I'll try to keep this brief:
I rooted both mine and my wifes phone. Her phone began shutting off and not powering up until battery pull. She was convinced I caused this. I returned her phone to stock and got a replacement from t mobile.
Upon receiving the replacement (unrooted) the problem began again.
At this point I replaced the sim. Problem persisted.
I formatted the sd. Problem persisted.
She removed sd altogether and still the problem persisted.
I'm all out of variables to trouble shoot here. Am I just the victim of bizarre coincidence to have two 4gs with the same issue?
I'm at a loss.
Thanks in advance.

I've heard of this happening before. Did you try to see if there was an app that caused it to freeze while on standby? And did you root it again?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
I'm not sure how I would figure out if there were an app that caused that and since sure never uses custom roms I didn't see a need to root her phone. Still confused.

Perhaps try rooting, and flashing a completely new ROM on and see if that works, or try flashing the stock recovery image from hboot, and see if that fixes it?
Otherwise I think you may just have gotten some bugged phones Been known to happen

Very odd issue?

Recently every couple hours the phone runs at like 2fps. All animations run about that speed but don't freeze. It also causes my soft keys to stop vibrating on touch and accelerometer locks. Any ideas?

What rom are you using?
There is maybe somthing running in the backgroud which does that!
I wondered that but nothing was ever in the runnin list but nothing I stopped helped. If it keeps up I suppose i'll factory reset and then possibly sbf. On cm7. Flashin new nightly over didn't help. We will see.

Im running cm7 nightly now and not having any issues at all. does it happen at any certain time or after you use a certain app or something?
Usually happens after I wake the phone after a couple hours. Seems to have gone though.
Sent from my MB520 using xda premium
I would say if it keeps up maybe try factory reset then if that don't help a sbf might be in order.

I use gosms myself and haven't had any issues like the ones you've been experiencing. Never used friendcaster.
After a whole day it finally happened again! Oh well will flash sbf once we get outta hospital.

What are you overclock settings?
1ghz on demand. Trying fiddling with it while it was acting up to no avail. Not trying to be lazy I just am curious what happened. Going home tomorrow. Will flash. Hope its not hardware.

1100mhz (1.1 GHZ) smartass!

Only have access to 50% of my battery.

For the last week my nexus 7 has been completely dying around 50% battery. If its in sleep mode when it hits that % then it won't turn on, if I'm using it when I hit that % I get a weird flicker then it shuts off. This just seems extremely strange that all of a sudden only half my battery works. A long with only having half my battery to work with, it seems like the tablet has been charging a lot slower then normal. I use to be able to work it down all the time and usually didn't charge it until 5%-10%
Anyone else ever have this issue? I contacted Asus and there only solution right now was a factory reset. I cant see how that could fix the issue at all.

are you rooted? what type of kernel are you using?
I have read that sometimes a factory reset refreshes the battery settings. Is your device rooted or rommed out?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
That happened to one of my friends S2's. Factory reset it. It worked for my friend. My N7 also charged really slow. I just changed the ROM. It is the same thing as a factory reset because you do one when you change your ROM.

You mean it's turning itself on or it's rebooting on its own?

You said your phone shuts off after hard use, and you said it is really hot when it shuts down. This sounds like a hardware problem. When the processor gets too hot, the device kills power to protect it from frying. Almost every computer has a similar last-resort power-off feature to protect its hardware.
Now the real question: What is making the device overheat? Most likely this is a hardware problem, but there is a remote possibility that the problem could be a rouge app.
A factory reset will remove the apps you installed. If there is an app running an infinite loop in the background, a factory reset might fix the problem. (I remember you said you are running stock without root, so there are no firmware issues. The only possible software issues are with your apps.)
I am sorry to say that you might have a defective board.

But why start doing that after a month of using it? The only new I did was using the maps app for more than 4hours... A friend toll me to clear cache on map apps...

If the problem really is hardware, it was a defect that made it past quality control. It's the same reason why a new hard drive might fail after a week of usage--infant mortality. Infant mortality is quite rare, but it does happen nevertheless.
Fortunately, Google's replacement procedure is quite nice compared to most other companies. If Google sends you a replacement, you can keep your existing phone until the replacement arrives. This way, you are not left without a phone temporarily.
Update! Did a factory reset and root it and it's good now! Looks like an app was causing the rebooting... Thanks for the help!
