An advice please... - Galaxy Tab General

Hi everone. I buy yesterday a samsung galaxy tab, with froyo 2.2
I have a sony xperia x10 too, and i flash it to 2.3 gingerbread.
From yours experiences, i must update to a new rom? or a custom rom?
Any adivice about a stable rom??
i download z4root, but hangs up and dont root my tablet. Other way to do this.
I think, that if i cant root it, i cant update de rom...
Thanks in advanced

Hmmm, if you don't reckon the differences between FroYo and GingerBread, it's probably not usefull to change ROM...
AFAIK there are several threads about rooting your Tab
Most ROM's are stable and fast, I personally prefer those made by AF974. Mind you, his latest ROM/kernel isn't supported anymore while he joined the Hyperdroid. You might get lucky there...

sorry but my english....i know the difference between froyo and gingerbread.
And my question was not complete. I´m from argentina and my tab is gsm (with chip) P1000L (or N) i dont remember, lol.
i read a post about cant change rom is the tab are from latinamerica or something.
Can i use the roms from afaik in my tab?
And More questions, worth it the upgrade, really change the tab perfomance
(when i start to use, the roms from Erickwill in my Xperia, the phone speeds up about 500% lol)
I will check other ways to root it, thanks about it.

Hola!
It is definately worth flashing a ROM. I think you are right that there are certain limitations with the P1000L/N - there is lots of information on here so get searching...
Have a look at the Hyperdroid thread, it might work for you, but check with your Tab version first.

[Q] Android 2.2

Hi,
Can I go ahead and flash the Android 2.2 OS from android developers website? Will it work?
Regards,
Mithun.
NOT DEVELOPMENT RELATED MOVED TO GENERAL
we have three 2.2 roms:
fyodor 0.7.2c
SP-froyo 2.0
SPQRom 0.4.1
all are very stable but BE AWARE: CAMERA DOESN'T WORK and there are other little bugs that are being fixed...
I did this earlier this week using the manual root method, RA-recovery & fyodor ROM. As long as you read the instructions several times before starting and have all the tools to hand, fairly straightforward process.
BUT there are some annoying niggles that may make you delay. For me, not having handsfree Bluetooth means that I can't use the 2.2 ROM as I spend a lot of time in the car. Similarily, CoPilot doesn't work on 2.2 an ALK have yet to release a patch.
IMHO the 2.2 ROM is miles better on Tattoo than 1.6 (faster, neater, smaller) but does have some outstanding issues that you need to consider before flashing.

Thanks so much for your quick reply, Albert & Maxi.... Well, my phone is just 2 weeks old. I had played around a lot with my HTC elf, which was out of warranty. I am just concerned weather it will void my tattoo's warranty. Also, could you please brief me what else doesn't work apart from the camera. I called up HTC support today and they were not really helpful in tellin me about the update for my tattoo.
According to you both, which is better, 2.1 or 2.2?
Regards,
Mithun.

I haven't used any 2.1 ROM's so can't comment but when you have rooted & RA-recovery on your phone, you can flash a ROM in a matter of minutes so you can quickly decide which version / variant is best for you.

the last version of copilot works on froyo
anyway in my opinion it's ok to choose between 1.6 or 2.2 but 2.1 is a NONSENSE 'cause camera doesn't work in 2.1 and 2.2 is faster and faster...you can install apps to sd without any patch...

Bro, I also wanted to know whether it will void the warranty since my phone is just 2 weeks old and I have a years warranty. Is there any way I can restore my phone to the original state after flashing a custom rom? I had done that on my elf before.... Where can I download stock rom for my tattoo?
Regards,
Mithun.

Yup. Just do a backup.
As for warranty, HTC might try to use that as an excuse not to fix the phone. But unless the problem is related to the rom...
Only some specific rom (the ones that do overclocking and such), are actually susceptible of causing hardware problems)
And of course, switch back to stock rom, to make sure the issue you might have is not rom related.

[Q] How to install a Froyo Rom?

Hi there,
I was just wondering how to install a Froyo Rom (With A2SD Support, and 2.1 Android Version). I was wondering about this because they're saying something about "Radio Versions" and I have absolutely no idea what that means. Is it to connect to your mobile carrier? Mine's Virgin Mobile Canada, does it make a difference? I really need to know, because I can't take my chances with this phone. How do I know what radio versions I need for the Rom? Do I install it like a normal Rom? I also want one that has root access. Does that make a difference? Thanks for the help because I'm really confused at the moment. Thanks.
PS: I've searched everywhere for a 2.1 Froyo Rom but still can't find one, can someone please give me the link? The reason I don't want 2.2 is because the last time I used a 2.2 Froyo Rom I couldn't get reception to my carrier (Virgin Mobile), and I know I did something wrong, so I'm asking for advice now. Thanks.

Hi, firstly, please read as much as you can before posting
Now, the reason you can't find 2.1 Froyo is because there is no such ROM. Froyo is a codename for Android 2.2 ROMs, just as 2.1 ROMs have codename Eclair etc...
So if you want Froyo, you want 2.2.
As I have told you in the other thread, read stickies in Development. To get root access, you have to root first - not sure if you have done that, but anyway, read some howtos on rooting any other techniques and you will find out how to fllash a ROM.
Abot the Bell canada thing, I think you are on WCDMA there, which means you have to have a Radio for that - that's what the fuzz is about(about different versions of radios and their receptions). But I'm not sure if you even need a special radio, you'll have to find out in development.
Here are STICKIES
Good luck!

Which rom

Hello all, not been in here for a while as i have a new phone, but want to give mine to my dad.
Now i haven't seen any roms in a while, so what is the best one to get?
Also is it still the same way, put it on sd, got to recovery, clear all data then install?
Thanks
ATR
I think there are about 100 threads now...
Yes it's still the same way. You can find all roms on my homepage. If you want more information use search function.
There are a few Android 2.3 roms out now, but from what I read the fastests and most reliable ones are the 2.2 roms. The EliLinux variant is one that I like (both 2.2 and 2.3), but there are more.

[Q] Best method to root and upgrade from 2.2.2 for a friend?

Hello guys,
sorry for probably not having searched long enough, but there is just a mass of threads to dig through...
A friend of mine has the Motorola Atrix and I want to help him upgrade it to the latest rom version, plus root the device... so I was wondering what method to use and which rom etc?
Myself I own a Samsung Galaxy i9000, so I know how many different roms exist for each device lol.. but no clue about the atrix (yet).
My friend is visually impaired and in order to change the display dpi we need to have the phone rooted.
Hope you can point me in the right direction so I don't have to spend too much time researching about this atrix.
Try either of the links,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1136261
or
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1182871
For custom rom, try GingerMod 2.3.6 #7, best ROM i ever used, runs so smooth and better battery life...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1400023
Thanks man!
That gingermod rom looks nice, unfortunatly it doesn't seem to support german. (forgot to say that my friend doesnt understand english so well and thought roms would usually always support german lol)
So are there any good with german language anyone can recommend? Preferably with Motoblur, or does motoblur get f*cked up by dpi changes?

Crash Rom - > Lollipop Rom

As we all know Crash stopped his work and I am now on his 4.2.2 rom.
It's absolutely stable and one of the best custom roms I ever used...but I want to upgrade now and I really don't know which rom I have to choose. What do you guys recommend??
Thx for your wonderful suggestions. Really great to have this question and answer thread up here!
Because 99.99% go and take a look in the thread of the rom to see what it looks like and what features it has and maybe read what people are saying about it and then decide for themselves.
Your question is quite similar to "What is the best rom ?" Which is forbidden to ask, it's the rules.
Im now on Darklord rom 1.5, a Note 4 port, with dark queen kernel 0.4 and it's the bomb.
Happy now ?
Thx!

I forgot... Means you don't know which rom is suitable for your device or you don't know which one to choose ?
If it's the first, there's a "Search this thread" option, just type in your model number.
The instructions are written in the thread, happy flashing.
Just updating bootloader now, Thx!
But more important will be to update your baseband (modem).
