Domestic Voice, Domestic Data - Networking

Recently Today my EVO 3D flashed to Metro will no longer Roam. Its either in service or No service. Usually it will roam on near by Verizon Tower and im able to still send texts just not make calls, which im fine with that.
Any Idea what is causing that.
And exactly what does enabling or disabling Domestic Voice/Data do on metros service.
WTF, as soon as i hit enter the phone goes right into roaming Analog B/A So now its working. Once i enabled the Domestic voice and data it started to roam. Hmm. Still need info if you can help

I see this is pretty old, but a prl update usually helps this issue.

Forcing G1 to Roam

I'm going camping this coming weekend to a place in the mountains that tmobile has very poor coverage in. I was there last month and discovered my friends at&t phone had full service while my g1 showed service, just didn't show any bars and other times only showed one bar. Calls with my phone were flacky and dropped out, his worked perfectly. Is there a way to make my phone switch to roaming on at&t?
I have a national plan on T-Mobile.
I'm running Cyanogen 3.9.5
Thanks!

Should do it automatically. I saw my phone do this the other weekend when I was travelin. My phone showed ATT, Corr Wireless, and some other service and certain points.
The tmobile signal is just strong enough to keep it from roaming there. I was hoping it would switch automatically but it never did. I know the phone does have roaming ability, i've seen it switch to roam and work fine.
I would assume then just change your APN settings.
you can try manual operator selection, by going Settings > Wireless Controls > Mobile Network Settings > Network Operators > Search Networks then select whatever network you want to use
Hi.. I'm using CyanogenMod 3.6.8.1 on my HTC Dream and I've got the same issues with roaming. I've travelled to 3 countries last month and I had issues with connecting to GSM network.. There was error message that my sim card cannot work with specific networks.. I've tried to use auto connection and I've tried also to connect manually to specific networks, but with the same result. I've tried also rebooting and removing the battery... Problem disappeared after few hours... I had this issue in Austria, Hungary and Turkey so it's not operator/country specific. Problems doesn't exist on different cell phone (Nokia). Everything works fine after powering on the phone.

Do anyone have the latest(or close) Verison PRL 52078????

I googled and can't find a download for verizon 2010 PRLs. Anyone have a link or can rip it from their phone??

This is the Sprint Evo forum. Maybe try a Verizon forum?
I was thinking someone here already had it ripped out of a verizon phone for their use on the Evo too
HERE are a few Verizon PRL's I keep around. There is a 51926 in there, I think from June or July of this year. Also some 65 series PRL's, but I haven't used any of them. I can verify that at least in Vancouver, WA I get great voice and 3G signal with the 51 series PRL's, cant really tell the difference between them, 518, 516, 517, 519, all good for me. Roaming triangle taunts me the whole time though,
Also, link in my sig for some other PRL's for the VZW 3G hack.

Thanks but i've tried 25 roams through out the month with altel/verizon and I always get 1x with 1 BAR. the only difference is some PRLs show the roam sign and others don't. This one even gave me the Roaming symbol.....What could the problem be????
I really don't know what the issue could be. I know that all the PRL's I linked will roam on 3G, so ???

Well they jump back and forth from Evd and Evdo_A when I sit the phone with 1 bar. But if I try to use the phone it jumps back down to 1xrrt with 1 or 2 bars at times. I'm kind of new to the hacking scene but I think everyone thing is good on my end. Unless there are other things you suppose to do after changing your PRL?
I'm no hacker myself, so at this point I don't know what else to look at.
Whenever I run any of these PRL's, I always have my network set to Sprint only, I turn off data roaming and make sure always on mobile data is enabled. But, even at the worst, I get intermittent data loss, but never get anything other then 3g. Have you tried the 00001 and 01337 prl's from the roam hack thread?
For me, on CM6.1, if I run any of the verizon PRL's, and select Sprint Only in the wireless networks menu, I roam on VZW 3G. If I switch to Affiliated Networks setting, I will drop all signal cause it gets confused I guess. If I change back to a Sprint PRL, and Affiliated Networks, I get good voice signal, but show 1x for data. As soon as I put it back to Sprint only, my data returns to 3g.
On any new froyo sense rom, it's almost impossible to tell. A bug that seems like it may be intentional has popped up. My phone will not show 1x, but only 3g. Even when I'm on a sprint prl, and confirmed to be roaming, which would be 1x, It still shows 3g. I dug into the rom, and the icons are there, they just don't show up on a lot of sense rom's
How are you able to tell what evdo ur on? Are you on an Evo?

Theres a app called Cellumap and Phonestatus in the marketplace. It tells you the network your phone is on and cellular provider.
I'm using the sprint lovers CUSTOM rom. I guess I'll switch to cm6 custom rom like you are using and set it up like you mentioned. so I'll give this a try tommorow(sunday) and report back. but I think it's just the RURAL area I live in but then again Verizon has full coverage according to their map...
yeah, probably just ur area. You should call Verizon and tell them about the issue
You could say something like, "hey, I'm trying to use your expanded 3g service for free, but all I get is 1x. Can you give me an ETA as to when this will be fixed?" That would be fun!
I'll give those apps a try on my end and see what I get.
Well, I'm getting EVDO rev a on most of these. Provider shows digital roaming but still says Sprint. Confirmed speed tests at just under 1mbs and dialing a number without area code sends me to Verizon error message.
That is with the 51 and 41 PRL's.
Hey... This thing makes phone calls too!

Aw great for you ... well I'm installing this cyanogenmod6.1 custom rom and see what it does on a different rom I guess. If not I don't know what else I could, probably no roaming agreement with Verizon(altell had my area covered before Verizon bought them so Verizon really never had towers here....)
Ah, so that's why you were looking for the newest PRL. I would think you could get it to work with the right PRL.

[Q] CM7: How to turn off (voice) roaming?

I'm running CM7 7.1-RC1 (and earlier nightlies). In Settings, under Wireless & network settings, Mobile networks, Network Operators, I selected the one available where I currently am ("ROAMING"). I got the R above the cellular signal strength bars. Below the quick action icons when I swipe down Notifications is "ROAMING".
Now I want to turn off (voice) roaming but can't figure out how to do that. I don't want to pay roaming costs (any idea if T-Mobile will charge roaming costs? I want to be able to control it regardless.). Also, is there a way to turn off the cellular radio but leave GPS and WiFi on?
I'm not talking about data roaming, but in the Mobile network settings I have everything unchecked (Data enabled, International data roaming, National data roaming, Use only 2G networks).
In Notifications is a bang in a triangle "International data roaming" and "You have lost data connectitivity because..." (I can't read it all, tapping doesn't show anything making the notification a bit useless).
Under APNs I have the choice between Simple and T-Mobile US, the later is chosen.
When WiFi calling is active, the radio strength shows just gray bars (no x, no R). Of course that is only good if I'm at the hotel!
Airplane mode isn't a good option, but thanks for suggesting it.

I finally got through to T-Mobile (40 minutes wait time? They must be preparing for the purchase by AT&T by lowering their standards). The rep (who was OK) had to put me on hold twice and check on things, but eventually he came back and let me know that if there is no T-Mobile service, then there are no roaming fees (note: inside the US for a US customer). So I just have to make sure that T-Mobile is preferred. I hope this helps someone!
All my other previous questions still stand, but add these: How, in CM7, do I make sure that my provider is preferred for voice? For data?
I find these areas a bit weak, which likely is very stock Android, so would I file a feature request against Google or Cyanogen or both? Or maybe someone has (please provide the # or URL!)?
Your phone will always default to the most powerful signal, whether that's with a stock MT4G or one with a custom ROM. T-mobile has no charge for roaming, data or voice, in the US. You're making making a mountain out of a mole hill.

Although you carefully didn't answer any of my remaining questions, by implication you are saying that I can not have control over the signal. Which doesn't match my experience where it would not choose roaming until selected the first time.

Typically that idiom means you are making a mountain out of mole hill knowing the facts, which I didn't til the time of my second post, so really it sounds to me like an unnwarranted slam.

Alright, I'll answer them. You asked how you can set to not roam on voice or data. Voice, there is no way to keep it from roaming. You can go in and do a manual network selection, but the next time it comes to a roaming tower that has a more powerful signal then it will jump to it. On the data, you can only tell the phone to not roam on other's towers but you cannot set it to where it always chooses a lower signal T-mobile tower over a stronger signal roaming tower. Which means that if you set it to not roam on data then if your phone connects up the stronger signal that happens to be a roaming partner then you won't get any data connection, even if there is a T-mobile tower available. The phone just chooses the strongest symbol.

No Mobile Data on AT&T

I've had this problem for a while now but it's starting to get extremely annoying. If I'm not connected to WiFi I will have no mobile data at all. I can still send texts or make a phone call but I can't go on the internet or receive MMS. I've tried at least 5 different APN settings and I've made sure that "Data Enabled" is checked but nothing works. When I contacted AT&T they said there is nothing they can do because it is not an AT&T device.

Maybe you should try again, but this time tell them you'll drop them like a hot potato if they don't give you the correct APN settings. They're doing false advertising by telling you just because it's not their device that they cannot help you. Oh really jerks? I'd ask them why the f you pay full price like everyone else then. Try playing rough, maybe you'll get a response. I'd answer you but I don't know AT&T's settings. I use T-Mobile.
After some research, it may be a problem on their end. They may have you set up for a non-smartphone data plan or HSPA or LTE, not HSPA+ data. Look at your statement and see what plan you're on. You can always call them and make sure you're set up with HSPA+. Tell them to die in a ditch if they refuse to service a paying customer. I'm having a similar issue that seems to have started around 4-5 days ago. I'm in the Twin Cities area, btw, if that matters.
Prior to that, I was only the victim of the occasional data drop or ARP offload delayed-notification issue.
The problem usually, but not aways, occurs when I leave a WIFI area and get handed off to the cell towers. I get no data, but calls/SMS works fine. Anywhere from 5-15 minutes later, I will get mobile data again, but only briefly before it goes away again.
The issue can also occur when seemingly changing towers, or going from HSPA > HSPA+.
On occasion, when the problem is occuring, my cell bars will still show blue as google services don't know they've been disconnected, but when I attempt to access, for instance, gmail or GNow, I will get no connection. Finally the bars will turn grey as the phone attempts to (apparently) cycle the radio.
Oddly, I stopped into a retail store here locally and the gal said they were having data issues so I figured it'd be fixed. That was 5 days ago. 3 days ago I called customer care and logged a case. They've found no issues with their towers or my provisioning thus far.
I also switched out my SIM card. No change.
At this point I think I'm going to walk over to T-Mobile and try a prepaid SIM to see if it's the phone or really and truly something with AT&T's network.
I'll post a logcat here if anyone is interested but I couldn't find too much interesting within it.

I've been on the T-Mobile network now for about an hour and I have had ZERO of the aforementioned issues. The phone definitely handles leaving WIFI > HSPA better as well.

[Q]Data and MMS help for Tmobile on unlocked i337

Hello, I have an unlocked i337 and i am currently using it with Tmobile. Almost everything seems to be working fine with it except a few hiccups and I was hoping someone could help me figure out what is wrong.
1. After I unlocked it using the service method I was getting 4G (HSPA+) speeds most of the time and sometimes 4G LTE speeds. The data speeds were great and I was receiving incoming and outgoing text messages fine. But while I was able to make calls just fine I was unable to receive any calls. Anyone who dial my number would go straight to voicemail. After messing around a bit with the phone my solution was to us *#2263# and select "WCDMA and GSM only". Once I did that I lost the LTE speeds but I was able to still maintain HSPA+ and receive phone calls.
Any solution to this without sacrificing LTE?
2. While I can can receive MMS messages fine it takes a really, really long time to send one(hours) and sometimes it doesn't send at all. My data is HSPA+ and pretty fast and I have excellent service in my area so I can't figure out what is wrong with it. I have been using Viber and tango to get around it.
Any idea what I can do?
3. I have to make frequent trips to a hospital for my son who has a congenital heart defect(so we are there for 6-7 hours at a time). In the hospital, the service is very poor but they offer free wifi. My previous phone was a tmobile Note 2 and it had wifi calling so I was able to get service while there.
Can I flash a tmobile S4 ROM to get wifi calling to work? Will I lose my unlock or brick my phone if I flash it? Should I use the MOD that enables
all AWS bands first?
thanks in advance for any help you guys can give.
