WRONG FORUM, next time please post in general
Have you tried using titanium backup (market)? Open titanium backup, click on "problems?" download busybox, re-open titanium backup (it closes automatically after installing busybox), click on backup/restore, click on amazon (or whatever you want to uninstall) hit uninstall.
NOTE: in titanium backup you might have to go to preferences and enable "chuck norris mode" (uninstaller settings) for some uninstalls to work. (Might be pro feature only)
NOTE: I'd use titanium backup to make a complete backup fist before uninstalling any apps. Might be needed for OTA updates.
At the top of the app, there is an option to mount the folder as R/W
it is mounted as R/O
I made that mistake the first time I used root explorer.

That didn't work for me, no matter how many times I clicked on the R/W remount icon. It does work after I run the following commands in abd though, weird.
mount -o remount, rw /system
i hit the RW buttom on the root explorer it deleted fine.
I'm on Root Explorer, and trying to install a app that needs to be on system/apps
but when i try to move that app and paste it in system/apps i get
"SYSTEM FILE IS READ-ONLY...
and then can't paste?
am i doing anything wrong?
is there a way to manually do it?
Look for and tap the "Mount R/W" button. Then it no longer read-only. Don't forget to click the button again (changes to Mount R/O) after you're done to make it read only again.
ooooooohhhhhhhh
k thanks so much man
I'm trying to delete a default application from my droid (WriteandGo) by deleting both the .apk and .odex file from /system/app using root explorer.
The phone is rooted, in Root Explorer and the partition appears mounted as r/w. When I delete both files it works fine and they disappear, but when I go back and then return to the app folder the files are there again. The application never gets uninstalled.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
Use titanium backup to uninstall sytem apps..
Thanks, it does work, but I'm curious as to why root explorer is failing to delete the files..

That is because the /system partition is mounted read only.
To mount read-write, install ADB.
Set phone to USB debug.
Then:
> adb shell
$ su
# mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/stl6 /system
Then go the the appropriate directory and remove the files with "rm".
So the info Root Explorer is supplying (that the partition is mounted as r/w) is wrong? That's odd, because I've managed to copy a file to /system/etc/.
I have rooted and installed CWR. I have Supperuser installed also. When I try to change the gps.conf file to point to us.pool.ntp.org, I get an error saying the that /system is read only. Any ideas on how to fix this?
You need to mount /system as read/write before you can write to it.
In Root Explorer, you can click the R/W (or R/O) button at the top to enable writing.
I tried that and it say the file has been saved. However when I open the file again the changes are not there.
From my post the other day at forums.lenovo.com--
Best: ES File Explorer (with root permission and /system writeable checked in settings)
Navigate to file, click, choose text, choose ES Note Editor, edit the file as needed, choose save when prompted.
You can change permissions with ES as well.
I like that it automatically makes a *.bak file of whatever you edit and save.
I have tried changing the permission using root explorer, which resulted with this error "Permissions change was not successful. Please not that some file systems(eg SD card) do not allow permission changes. " I also tried using ES File Explorer but it still will not allow me to edit or delete the file.
@dwilli40 - Did you set root permission and /system writeable in ES settings?
Yes, I did enable root permission and /system writeable in ES settings.
I had a similar Problem on my device, seems that the normal mount doesn't work always. In my case i got write permission with:
busybox mount -o rw,rewrite /system

if you don't know how to do it manually, use a app !
fasterfix for example....
if it doesn't work, it means that you don't have root
Thanks quyTam . That one did it for me.
Any way to do this without recovery?
It's absolutely no need for recovery !
But root is needed.
I was thinking it did because I couldn't get /system to stay mounted as rw under adb shell or with total commander
What should I be doing?
GPS Monitor Premium is able to do this, too, and more. It's a little heavier, but I don't feel like I need GPS Test anymore. It's a slick little app, and the dev is very kind.

Yes.
If I mount from adb shell su and then exit (after checking mount) for adb push it does not retain rw.
Doing the mount command from Total Commander fails. Checking the box to mount /system from ES File Explorer does nothing.
Yes, the change to gps made a huge difference. I went from taking 5 minutes or more to find my location to almost instantly.

Did you change the gpsconfig.xml file in /system/etc/gps folder? And if you did, which line(s) did you edit? I'm looking at the file in Notepad++ just trying to comb through it all and I don't see us.pool.ntp.org or asia.pool.ntp.ord anywhere..
Thanks

Never mind, just found the gps.conf file in the root of /etc. FasterFix did indeed change the Asian setting to a north-american.pool.ntp.org. I'll give this a try today, and if it can't find me in under 3 minutes, i'll try changing it to us.pool.ntp.org and see if that makes a difference.
Hi everyone. I installed B32 but i can't edit system.
For example; can't change build.prop. Can't delete anything from system.
It was good on B25.
Uuhh... use a PC, and issue 'adb reboot disemmcwp'
It supposedly doesn't work if you do it from a terminal emulator
It's weird that you don't seem to know about this, since it happens on every stock ROM
Thank you my friend but it is not about it. So it did not help me
I'm having the same problem. If anyone has a solution please post. I tried to remount system to r/w from terminal. even tried to mount system as R/W with root explorer and ES explorer. It's a no go.
