I used a sandisk 8gb class 4 when I first installed wp7 but I thought I should make a dual boot and I bought a samsung 32gb class 10 microsdhc.
wp7 couldn't load and I got a message the memory card wasn't compatible...
right now I use android and everything works like a charm but I would love to do that dual boot.
I there anyway to fix that except buying a new card?
format card with SDFormatter v3.0, insert to phone and do hard reset with Volume Up and Down together and power up... maybe not help but you can try...
i use Sandisk 32 gb class 2 and card is very fast and stable under WP7, faster than Sandisk 8g class4 from original HTC 7 Pro device

There is a huge amount of info out there on what cards to buy, but none of it is 100%, it still might not work, and going for a class 10 card was probably the big mistake, dont get me wrong, some folk have them working, but generally WP7 tends to like class 2/4 and potentially 6 the best, its believed its to do with random access speeds which are usually lower on higher class devices
tthere has been some development with cards that install but sometimes reboot, some small reg tweaks have had a positive effect, but cards that do not work at all is going to be very unlikely to get working. you can format it all you like but the installer will clear all partition tables and set new partitions up, meaning it wont make much if any difference.
ive spent all week looking at new cards, crystal disk mark seems to be a good judge, but if you dig through the net at revews and forums you'll see why its very much hit or miss, the bench marks are all different. Bt the more you look at and the more a given card looks ok, the higher the chances of it working. Ill tell you saturday if mines any good, but i physically couldnt do any more in identifying a working card, so its an educated guess
in answer to your question, no, you need to install WP7 first, then partition it and install SD android, so unless you can get WP working you'll not dual boot them, send the card back, say it wasnt working with your camera or something

Hello,
I installed Android on my HD2, worked perfectly for 2 weeks. But my microSD was only 2GB, so I buyed a new one.
Kingston class 4 8gb microSD. Putted everything just on the new SD card, didn't changed anything! Formatted it also to FAT32.
Now the problem is that Android is VERY slow with getting out of standby, takes sometimes 10 seconds. I get a black screen for 10 seconds and then Android comes up.
Also starting up Android takes ages and it sometimes just freezes or gives a blue screen.
Has this something to do with Android or is the microSD card broken in a way? I can still move/delete files on the microSD card.
Anyone got at solution?
Thanks
Did you try a different build? Perhaps try Mdeejay rEVOlution build, fastest build i've used so far, very very fast, smooth and stable. Also try updating your radio.
I bet there are several utilities to test the read and write speeds on your microSD card. You'll need a cardreader in your pc to do that, trying it through WM6 won't work because the USB will be the one controlling the max speeds.
I hope this helps a lot of people struggling with the speed of android running off SD.
My suggestion is that the card size, and not just the card speed plays an important part in the speed at which android runs...
My Evidence. I first installed various builds on a variety of Sandisk 2GB and 4GB Class 2 cards. They all ran super fast... I mean no lag at all, ever. It might as well have been a Desire HD. Being that i wanted more space I used my 16GB Sandisk Class 2 that I have been using for WM, reformatted it and installed android. It was cripplingly slow. Unusable in fact. (i tried reformat/reinstall a couple of times before giving up). I then invested in a Class 4 16GB and installed the same build. Not surprisingly this was faster, usable but still not as fast as it was on the 4GB Class 2. I am going to go back the the 4GB card unfortunately until NAND arrives.

Thanks for the reply!
First i'm going to test the Mdeejay rEVOlution build, hopefully it will run smooth and fast. If not, i'm gonna send back my 8GB card and get a new 4GB class 4 card.
At the moment I'm running Froyostone 3.2, works now perfectly with the 2GB microSDcard.
I will post the results.

I totally agree with this, although I cannot figure out why.
I tested with two almost identical cards, both Samsung class 4, one 2Gb, one 8Gb, formatted FAT32 64k clusters via the same memory card reader/pc. The 2Gb one whizzed along with the build I'm running now, the 8Gb one occassionally stuttered and stalled. Seems odd to me, unless fragmentation comes into play maybe?
The only reason I have stuck with the 8Gb is for my music. Oh how I'd love to stick with my 2Gb card for the speed and have a second SD slot for my music.
Hey guys. I just got my new Micro SDHC 16GB Class 10 card. Yes class 10.
I copied everything from my stock HD2 16GB SD, Everything. Right into my new Wintec 16GB Micro C10. and then reboot to Android. Everything seems to be running smooth and fine. But I do have one weird issue. Sometimes it takes a little while to wake up from standby. When I hit the Wake button the key lights turn on, but screen wont. Most of the time it wakes right up, but sometimes it doesn't. Others I'll hit it and the screen stays black and if I touch the screen then it wakes up and I can slide to unlock.
Wasn't like this before. Is this the card going to sleep, or is something not right? or Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions. I'm thinking I might format the card in Android (so it's properly formated) and then recopy everything over.
The only thing that's ever done this for me is SetCPU profiles, I've been on the stock 16gb that came with my HD2 and it wakes up just fine with the right SetCPU profile.
What kernel and which scaling are you using? It might be interacting with the SD card a little differently. Have you run Quadrant? although quadrant scores are usually meaningless you can use them for some information. Your I/O score should be a lot higher on the new card if it is actually faster. I have heard of name-brand class 2 significantly outperforming generic/cheap class 6 cards.
I've said this many times, my stock class 2 outperforms my class 4 8gig by a mile. With the class 4, I often can't get it to work properly at all. I having clue why this is though, and nobody seems to have an explanation. Sorry man, just the way things are.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Well, I didn't buy a no name card. Wintec is not a no name brand. They've been around longer than A-Data, Transcend, Patriot. All of those. lol but I see your point.
I'll run Quad n see, but things seem to have improved a little bit after my 3rd reboot. but sometimes it still does it. I'm using smartass governor on SetCPU
If you didn't change anything, then it sure as well be your SD card. If you really want to make sure it's your card, start the entire android build from scratch and see if you still get that same result. if not, then there you go. If yes, then its the card (Assuming everything worked perfectly before you made the copy/paste from your old card to your new one).
Class is not everything. High class only mean high write and read speed to large block transfter, but android need a lot of small block transfter.
You can use ATTO to test your SD's speed. you can find Sandisk's TF will be 10 times faster than Kingstone for small block. but they maybe the same speed for large block.
You can try to buy one Sandisk's mobile ultra micro-sd, it's best SD to run android.
So Ive been using the 16gb Class 2 sd card that came with my HD2 for WP7 and I havent really had any problems with it. Occasionally it reboots for no reason, but aside from that, its perfect. However, my friend just gave me his 4gb Class 4 card. Should I keep using the 16gb or reset my phone with the faster 4gb?
simple test, all sd cards work differently
my Nokia 4GB Class 6 is better than may Sandisk 16GB Class 2
Xbox Live Installation: ( only the installation without download )
Nokia 4GB Class 6: 1:23 minutes
Sandisk 16GB Class 2: 9:41 minutes

Class 2 cards usually work better for wp7. Actually class means nothing when it comes to wp7... you want good random access speed for wp7 to run smooth. Many times, the tricks that manufacturers do to their cards to get higher sequential write speeds will actually reduce the random access speed. They don't keep the random access speed consistent on any of their cards as that speed isn't rated, so even cards of the same brand and class can differ greatly from batch to batch. A card made one day may run wp7 well while the same card made a month later may not. So far it seems class 2 sandisk are the most consistent in keeping good random access speed, so if you are going for a card for wp7, go for class 2 sandisk with model numbers ending in A11M. If you already have a card that works well, no reason to switch unless you want to change the size, because there's no way to guarantee a card will work well until it's tested.
Any idea why it takes so long to install apps in wp7
I don´t have any complaints so far... it´s fast here.
Many slowdowns, however, seem to be caused by using sub-optimal, if not incompatible, SD cards.
Change the SD card!!!! I migrated from a Kingston Class 4 4GB (lag in WP7 + slow app install) to a 16 GB Adata Class 10 card and now everything is really flying high SanDisk cards should be your best bet as of compatibility. I switched to Adata because I got it as a present.
thanks for the reply guys
i am using sandisk 16 gb class 6, so you think i should change card or the is some other problem
It´s hard to tell from distance... if you´ve got another card, it might well be worth a try. Sandisk usually work, but then again, some don´t. I think that was also a major issue for HTC when they had to notice lags and malfunctions of some of their WP7 devices which use SD cards instead of soldered memory...
Does any one have the problem?
When I forgot to insert the SD card when flashing WP7, the market downloads were blazing fast. Unfortunately I had to reset the phone with the card in place and after that, now the downloads are crawling.
Do you know why? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
maybe it's because MicroSD memory is usually slower than Nand memroy.
Idk if by upgrading to a higher sdcard class will improve performance, but if u have another memory card around (with has different Class or Brand) why don't you test it with the market apps downloads and come back and tell us if u noticed any changes in performance?
no no no no,
righty, first things first, try reflashing with the SD in, it shouldnt make any difference over a hard reset but its worth the shot.
the reason its slow assuming the above doesnt work is because your SD card isnt compatible, there is some evidance that formatting the SD card in a digital camera has some effect but i think the best performance comes from cards that work from the outset.
note there isnt any list of compatibe cards, DO NOT assume that any card "recomended" by anyone will work.
statistically you have a better chance with a class 2 or 4 card, but that doesnt mean a class 6 or 10 wont work, no brand of card is above this issue, sandisk suffer just as much as the next brand.
in short, its luck if you can get one that works or not, theres nothing else too other than try sticking to class 2 or 4.
oh if your running a class 2 card fine, dont assume a class 4 will be quicker, it might not, it just depends on teh card...and a spot of luck1
Thanks for the reply!
I have the stock sandisk class 2 card that came with the phone. I think it might be similar to when Android was on SD card and the market downloads were really slow too. But after RAM builds and NAND builds came along, the dolwnloads happen blazingly fast.
Anyway, thanks for replying
