thanks
i changed many cables but no way i think it bricked when updating

If it was bricked you would have more problems than just a cable problem.

Phone isn't recognized in download mode on computer

I'm sure this has already been posted but couldn't find it. But I was trying to flash one of the roms that were posted in here with odin3 and when I put the phone in download mode and Hooke it up to the computer I get either device not recognized or device.malfunctioning but mass storage works no problem. I use the cable that came with the phone and used every USB port on the computer. Any suggestions?

Have you installed Samsung Galaxy S drivers?
I had that problem when trying to flash EB13.
From what others have said here (and my personal experiences with trying to flash EB13) the cable the Epic comes with is crap.
When using another cable, I had much more luck in getting Odin/Windows/Samsung Updater to see my phone.
YMMV though, but it worked for me.
I think you should re-install the drivers, and try a USB port on the back of the computer. Usually the ports on the front of the computer aren't the best for these things.

Reboot computer and reboot phone and try it again thats what worked for me in the past
Reinstall the Epic drivers from Samsung. Make sure to use the back ports on the back of your computer that are on the motherboard. These will provide better and cleaner power to your device, also cycle both the computer and the phone and don't plug in the device till after you have went into download mode. This should fix your problem.
Same thing happened to me. I tried using the micro USB cable from my wifes Blackberry. Works great now. Samsung's cables suck

I've installed uninstalled and installed the drivers again. Tried the USB ports in the front and back of the computer. I'll try and buy a new cable and see if that works.
Thanks for all the suggestions

Dude I had this exact same problem. What os are you running? and is it 32 or 64bit? I had this problem on windows 7 64bit. I had to connect my to an xp os and wham it detected it fine and did its thing. Weird i know but it worked.
P.S: changing the cables for me didn't work. I just used another computer which was on xp.

I recently reformatted and couldn't get odin to work. I put my phone in debug mode and when I connected it windows ended up installing something else and everything worked after that.
Windows 7 64 bit with 64 bit samsung drivers.

Beats me then. Try a different computer.
Guys I've had this issue and tried everything you guys have and some. Look at the port directly on your phone. there are tiny little copper contacts on the tooth that can get bent.
You will have to use some tweezers to get it back down but look at this before buying a new usb cable as this was my issue

I checked that and didn't find anything bent in the USB port on the phone. Might try new cable and different computer when I have access to both

Okay stupid question. Doest it make a difference if the phone isn't fully charged? Haha if so then I'm stupid haha

I have done flashes with thirty to forty percent battery. I don't think odin checks your battery. I would caution against flashing with to low of a battery as your phone can die during a flash.

Check for damaged pins on the phones micro usb socket.
This happened to me before but was able to straighten it out using a fine needle as a temp fix.
Wow.... Mate, thanks a million that worked for me.

Possible Busted USB port

My XP micro USB port seems to be busted it won't charge using the plug charger or pop-up on my PC when I just plug it in.
I bought it online from O2s site in January, what are my options to get it fixed/get a new one?
Does rooting it affect my warranty?
Rooting probably avoided your warranty, try to unroot or flash o2's firmware.

Mine only charges with the standard cable in a very specific position. It sucks.

You could backup the phone to an sd card using rerware my backup and then, factory reset the phone, that will remove root and you wouldnt have to worry about them knowing you rooted
Just delete superuser from manage applications, no one will know you rooted. It shouldn't be a problem anyway as the fault is hardware related and not software related

My guess is that it's a bad adapter, if *nothing* works, but you know your micro usb port is connecting with other things well.

My nexud doesn't charge with any usb cable

Axept the original Lg usb charger. .
It happend suddenly, it worked great .
Is it a brick related, or rom related? (On cm10.1) or the charge port corupted?

Maybe redundant but have you tried other usb ports, don`t use hub`s . You might try reflashing or restoring (nandroid) a stock image and see if the issue persists.
What port?
I cant charge it throgh wall charger, so ofcorse it will not connect to pc with the usb cable.
With original cable it will connect perfectly.
And the other wall chargers/usb cables are 100% working (on my nexus s and my htc sensation)
