[Q] CM7 - Gmail Attachments - Won't Download to KF - Kindle Fire General

I have rooted and installed CM7 on my KF. I would like to email ePub books to my KF and I am having issues with attachments.
Is anyone else having an issue with saving an attachment from Gmail down to your KF?
I can see in the email that there is an attachment but when I tap on it nothing happens??? I expect a "save" option to get it to the SD card.
I welcome your help and I read just about every post to educate myself.
Thanks

Not sure why it's not working for you. You could always use an app like AirDroid that will transfer the files over wifi for you, I use it all the time.

Transferring via WiFi is not a problem and I do it all the time but...... there are times when I am at work and want to email an ePub book to my Gmail account and have it waiting at home for me. Then from home put it out of Gmail down to my KF for reading.
Am I the only one having issues with attachments in Gmail on my KF?
Thanks

Try clearing the data for the gmail app.

I took your suggestion and deleted both the cache and data for Gmail. I am still unable to download an attachment.
Am I the only one with this problem? Is attachment downloading working for you?
Thanks

I have the same issue as well. Are attachments working for anyone?

They work fine for me, I tried an epub book earlier.

Working just fine for me on two CM7 KFs.

Images in Gmail account.

I copy and paste an image from firefox into an Outlook email (tied to a different gmail account) and email it to my T-Mobile linked Gmail account. Then I go to the phone's Gmail app and open the email. The image does not show up, all I see is a box with a question mark in the middle. Some other pictured emails have a "show images" button but most of them dont and all I see is the tiny question mark in the blue square.
Has anyone else had this problem as well?
Yea this is one issue I would like them to fix... but no biggy they will get to it... it is google they fix all.
there is an issue with that. You can sync them via an exchange server. I copied and pasted them directly to the contact saved to your gmail homepage. Log into your gmail account and you will see them there. If they are not there export your outlook contact to a .csv file and upload them to your gmail account.

My fault misread the topic.
Does the image show up in gmail on your computer? Gmails shows Outlook HTML emails correctly but Outlook Rich Text Format emails are missing images.

Absolutely, because its not GOOGLE rendering Gmail, its my Firefox browser rendering it. The problem is with the rendering engine in the Gmail software, I dont think this is an easy fix for them, wont see a fix for a while.

Yea and what is up with the applications? Now we have apps for:
Youtube,
Gmail,
Facebook,
Myspace,
Everyone wants his own app, why cant they all work on a better brower than actually works? Look at Skyfire, its amazing on WM6 fast and smooth but needs a fast processor my wing is too slow.
Is Google going to fix this?
Does anyone have a solution?
I don't see too many people annoyed by this, don't you guys use gmail ? This should be front page of wall street journal!!

4 Months and the simple act of showing pictures has not been accomplished. Even Skyfire browser doesn't want to support the G1.
Its funny how Skyfire FULLY SUPPORTS flash while Adobe, Microsoft WindowsMobile, Apple/iPhone and Google/Andriod can not do it!

Personally never once had a working flash movie in skyfire.
But I do know that the way skyfire works is by taking pictures of webpages then sending those pics to your phone. It is complicated stuff and requires a lot of resources on both ends.
On my slow as hell HTC Herald/WING, I used Skyfire and watched YouTube nice and smooth. Now WING/Herald is 200Mhz, Dream is 500+Mhz
What is the big deal about flash?
And going back to the original post on this thread, are we ever going to see images in emails in the Gmail app? How come showing images in email, which is something the browser already does, is so difficult?
Sorry to bump up an old topic, but has anyone found a fix to this?
I am currently running JF1.5 and still see these blue squares in my emails where "inline" images would be. Anyone have any idea?
Thanks.

It really sounds like the problem is with certain clients, not the gmail reader.. Missing images when sent from Outlook? Hardly surprising, Outlook sends poorly formatted email.
I see inline images in the gmail client - emails from ebay, from various webmail clients, from a few companies (newsletters, etc). Check with the sender, see what they're using. See if they have an option to send plain HTML emails.
Not only the gmail app, mail and k9 also
Not only the gmail app, mail and k9 also show a small blue square with an ? in it.

email and exchange

after the 3.2 update, my email and exhange apk's are corrupt, cannot set up mail with Keiten mail server anylonger and get a FC on the stock email app every startup. I have tried to load a couple of different email/exchange apk files and none run with the new 3.2
Can someone strip these two apk files and post them for me? would like to get this back up and running as soon as I can.
Thanks,
Update:
Reflashed the 3.2 update, fixed the corrupt files, but still, the tab will not open/download email attachments. Get error message that "cannot save. Not enough memory."
I have more than 250 mb of ram available and more than 12GB of drive space, so memory is not the issue. I downloaded and setup Touchdown HD for my exchange mail and it works just fine, but cannot get my personal mail from POP3 server to open attachments. I have recreated both accounts multiple times, cleaned the cache and Dalvik cache, and have tried by replacing email.apk and exchnage.apk from 3.1 and they did not work at all.
All this worked just fine under 3.1, but with the 3.2 update, my email, which is the main reason I got this tab, is useless for attachments.
Anyone out there with any more ideas?
Tried to clean the App Data ?
Yes, that is how I reset the mail files and rebuilt them. Seems there is something in the email/exchange apk that is not "reading" the memory correctly. Need a developer to look at the new 3.2 mail apk and see what it is calling for in regard to memory management.
I keep looking and trying various things, but nothing works.
Just wiped the pad clean, cache, formatted the sdcard, and cleaned dalvik cache, flashed Bindroid 3.3 for Galaxy Tab wifi. Still cannot open/download/save attachements with stock email apk.
Can someone else try their setup and confirm if email attachments and HTML mail works on thier setup? I am at a loss as to what to try next.
Mine work ok. i'm on stock 3.2 p7500.
email with 8.9
I have an ATT 8.9 Tab with 3.2 installed on it. The issue I am having with exchange in syncing has to do with not getting all the emails in my folder. My phone (Vivid) syncs just fine the Tab does not get all the emails and when I delete an email on my laptop or phone it stays on the phone sometimes and sometimes it gets deleted.
Anyone else having issues with exchange and 3.2 or tab 8.9?
I am missing files from my exchange account as well. Some are replicated, some are not. And I can see the attachments, no option to open them and the out of memory error message when I try to click open them.
I am on US P7510 UEKMM, 3.2 32GB pad.
You could try a full reflash. I am using the overcome Rom with standard TW email package and it syncs beatifully with my exchange server. No issues whatsoever.

Will have to try that, I have deleted all email accounts and installed them again, at first all work fine then in a day or two the same issues. My ATT LTE is not rooted and yours is, your custom ROM could make the difference.

The problem with that is I like the TW mail. I did. Try to install the stock google apk and it would not install. And I did check the box to install from other locations. I have not found another mail app that is any good.
Enhanced Email from the market is the only one I can find that works. Tried them all to no avail. I am rooted and running a custom rom. There is something wrong with 3.2 and the stock email app, seeing comments from other 3.2 tabs of problems as well.
for the moment, I am using Enhanced Email, but the user interface is poor, and I like the UI for the stock app best of all I have tried. Too bad it does not work, even with a full reflash of custom rom.
now, I cannot connect any longer to KIES, after past couple of days, not able to connect with it anylonger, although Win7 64 sees it as a mobile device, I can move files, but not sync my contacts and calendar, even with WIFI.
This whole 3.2 thing is getting out of hand.

(Solved) Kindle Fire email settings not sticking after reboot?

Hello. First off let me say I have searched this forum for a thread relating to this issue and was unsuccessful so if by some means I overlooked it, I apologize for a replicate.
Anyway, I just purchased my KF yesterday and love it. However, I noticed today after turning it back on that my previous settings for email were no longer sticking. For example, I had set my email to fetch PUSH but it went back to manual. I don't know if this has something to do with the wifi or what but I'm curious so I can keep it from resetting.
*EDIT* For clarification the email account I am speaking of is my Gmail which is an IMAP server type.
Thanks for any help on this issue.
-- I plan on rooting the KF if it means I can keep my wifi from shutting down once the Fire goes into sleep.
** It seems to of been the already installed email app that was the issue. **

Nice. Well, I have no idea what is going on. I have set my email setting to PUSH and each and every time I turn off the device and then restart it, the settings go back to manual
And I even performed a factory reset. Thanks though for your reply. I hope I can get it taken care of soon. I hate nothing more than exchanges, esp. when the device itself now is top-notch...other than this email setting debacle.

Misread your post.
I have not set mine to "push."
I have 7 pop email accounts, so probably doesn't apply to your problem.

Yeah, I'm referring to my gmail (IMAP) account.
-- On a side note, however completely related to the subject, I notice my browser bookmarks don't stick either. I will delete many of the pre-loaded ones, put a few of my own, and after reboot, notice they are no longer there as well. Reverted back to all the old bookmarks (that I deleted) and none of mine.

Anyone else having this 'issue'?
I'm guessing you're talking about using the stock Kindle Fire email app connecting to your Gmail account?
My advice initially would be to sideload Google's apps on there and see if you have the same issues.
Failing that, I would probably do a factory reset, and start again. It shouldn't take you very long to set everything up again.
It's a weird one for sure, but then I never used the built in apps!
If you're only using gmail, I'd recommend just installing the gmail app, then using quick sync settings from the market to make it sync automatically, if that's what you want it to do.

Exchange/Activesync Email with Email.apk from CM7

This is for everybody looking to get Exchange/Activesync Email working on the Kindle Fire: I pulled the email.apk from CM7 - installs fine and works without any problems.
BTW - is it just me or does Gmail not automatically sync when the KF is turned on and connects to the wifi?
Email.apk and calendar.apk from CM7 attached.
Huge thanks, I was using Touchdown trial version and was loathe to pay for it. It has a couple of nice features but more misses than hits.
I picked up Enhanced Email so far it functions fine at that point in time I grabbed it for 2.99 so it was the cheapest option to get multiple exchange accounts.

Yeah I grabbed Enhanced Email while it was free on the Amazon App Store. It works great. I think its all based on the same open source code (its under an Apache license I think) as the Cyanogen email.apk as well.

I can get my godaddy account to work with this but can't seem to get my Work Exchange account to work, keeps saying "unable to open connection to server". I've tried every network setting i can think of. not sure whats going on. I overwrote the existing "kindle" email app, could that be the issue?

If this does not work, you exchange server will not work with android period.

gmail attachment issue question

I had read or hear somewhere that there is an issue with attachments in gmail on the note 10.1 Is this confirmed by users who have one and use gmail or just a bad reviewer. Still trying to decide on Infinity or 10.1 and this is very important to me.
Thanks in advance.
I assume you mean using the stock e-mail client. I don't imagine the GMail app would behave any differently on the Note than it does anywhere else.

Just install a file manager app like Astro and you will be able to attach any file in the GMail app.

I don't have this problem.
No probs with attachments here, neither Samsung client nor original Gmail.
The Samsung client only sometimes won't download integrated pictures in emails like company logos.
No issues for me either. Just bad reviewers.
No he didn't mean the stock email client he meant gmail. Within gmail you only get these options (gallery or dropbox) stock for attachments but you can also send stuff initiating outside gmail using the share options in what ever app your in.
Also as gdirks says installing a file manager will let you choose whatever.

I have to admit that's pretty stupid. In my pics that's GMail being used via ActiveSync and you can see the stock e-mail client has Samsung's My Files app as the number one option. It also gives the option of sending content created in the S-tools. There's no reason (that I can think of) that the GMail app shouldn't behave the same way. At least to your point the problem can be solved by installing a third party file manager.

Yup, agreed it shouldn't but it's samsung's terrible software design at work here. Maybe it was an honest oversight and they will fix it. I say we pressure them to do so. I'm sure someone will figure out how to fix it soon enough on xda but the whole point is that we shouldn't have to fix things like that, it should work just like stock aosp android.
I really don't want to setup gmail as active sync.
A friend also had the same issue. On my Galaxy Note 10.1 I had a slection for "attach video". Fixed the problem with this app: [I'm not allowed to post links- sorry]. Go to Play Store and search on "Attachments [Gmail Attach]"
I have no relationship with this developer. Cheers, David
