Skyd UX - Apps [New Pics] and ROM - Android Software Development

Hello guys,
WP7Android apps for free here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21408342
So what's all about? !!
A innovative UI currently in development which will have 20 apps and a simple, elegant, fully customizable GUI. Available screenshots in second post.
Also a ROM[no Kang], which aims to become better then CM&MIUI and improve android overall. If you are a developer or a user who wants to help just PM me or Mr.Highway
ROM signup:https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dFdIN1dMSTc2eXNMM2c0TlBadHZVWVE6MQ
Apps closed beta signup:https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dHBnMjRaUEpRX3ZFUlZWWmxVOWxGUHc6MQ
What else can you expect from it?
All apps are planned to be the best on the market so you can expect a rich user experience with many features that will include competitor ones and original.
How many apps will the UI have?
About 20. Here is a list with most of them:
Code:
1)Dialer
2)SMS/MMS
3)Email
4)Calendar
5)People with IM and social
6)Calculator
7)Player
8)Gallery
9)Launcher
10)Browser
11)Notes,
12)Stock + Currency converter
13)Weather
14)Clock
15)News
16)File/Task manager
17)Settings
18)Lockscreen
19)Theme Engine - Desktop App
How is everything organized?
I'm leading a multinational team of 9 developers. As for the project it has 4 stages:
1)All apps with basic features in one app
2)Adding advanced features
3) Integration between all apps
4) Implementing UI
When will this be released?
Something like end of April or middle of May for beta if things go well. And final release 2-3 weeks later.
When can we test?
Some will have the chance to test early in private beta testing. All others will have to wait for public beta.
Will this be free?
Free with ads. Estimated prices in third post.
If there is anything you want to know PM or email me([email protected]).
Updates and pics/videos on second post.
Blog on third post.

Blog
So I've decided to keep the third post as a personal blog where I can share my thoughts about the project, your comments and what else come in my mind. So let's begin.
1)
In about a day my project got over 24 pages on Google. So many that I got bored counting . This looks really promising, never imagined this level of success. Also first page on XDA.
Managed to read a few and there are two things that were not quite right. One article said that I should change the name to metroid. I don't think so, that will mean M$ flame . Also another thing is the supposition that all team members are xda guys. Only one is(which wants no money or IR), the rest are paid devs. There is no chance that free time devs will finish this project in time. Hope I made clear some things.
Also this week meteo and new contacts will be finished. Next week IM with AIM,MSN,Yahoo,GTalk,Skype,Facebook and Jabber support will be finished. Tell me if you use others as well.
Edit: Thanks to the guy who emailed me to remind me of Facebook chat.
2)
So I thought more about the prices and there will be 2 options:
In app purchase for ads free with
Google - 2.50$
Paypal - 1.89$
Why is it cheaper with paypal?
Google fee is 30%(thievery) and it registers as payment and thus I have to pay taxes. Paypal fee is 0.33$+1% and it registers as donation. I will receive about the same amount in the end(a little less for G option)
So paypal is a better option for all of us, even if some of you hate PayPal. Hope the lower price will encourage you to use it.
Also there will be an update with pics and a video showing more of the UI most likely this weekend.
That's it for now. Stay tuned!!!

Awesome project!!! Keep it up!
Thank you!

Thanks for your efforts and hard work! This looks promising.
I will definitely be keeping my eye on this project.

Love your wp7 suite

Suitable Finance App for Android UK

Guys,
I'm looking into getting an Android (HTC Desire looks like the best Android machine but oh would love to be able to get hold of the Evo or similar).
A couple of grey areas I need to sort out are:-
1. Rich Text Format read & write.
2. Finance software.
Reference the Finance software, can anyone point me to having a read on what would be considered a suitable application that can allow me to use the finance program similar to how Cash Organizer on Windows Mobile works.
i.e. Have an index of Accounts, Register, Projects, Planner, Budget, Reports.
Accounts would list all the accounts.
Register would list all transactions within a particular account.
Projects ~ as it says.
Planner would list all future transactions so you can see at a glance what is coming out and what account it is going to.
Budget ~ as it says.
Reports ~ as it says.
My Brother who has a Desire tried briefly MyMoney but he told me it's not powerful enough.... however, I'd like to hear more on this from other users.
These two items are at the moment stopping me changing from Windows Mobile to Android.
If anyone can help it would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Beards
Anyone have any ideas??
Hi Beards
Currently I'm using Financisto. It has everything you mentioned except the planner part, which I miss too. But it links your money operations to location and you can see reports based on location. Check it out and tell me what you think. If you'll find a better app please let me know.

Many thanks Mantas for your contribution.
You mention there is no planner with this software. Unfortunately, this is one of the most important factors, as I need to be able to add all my monthly repeated outgoings so that the finance program will look at them on the specific date and automatically add the item to a named account.
At present all my testing has to be carried out on my Brother's Desire as I am still in the deciding factor on whether or not to ditch my Windows Mobile HD2 and move on up to Android.
Have you tried MyMoney or any other application.
I will however ask him to install Financisto and get him to show me what it can and can not achieve.
Thanks again.
Beards.
have you tried firewallet I installed it last night but not played with it yet.

I'de be interested to hear your comments ~ especially if it does what I am trying to replicate from Cash Organizer.
Does it offer a 'Planner' so you can plan your spending's in advance and see from a Tab what date a transaction would be due to be added?

I've set mine up to include all my direct debits for the month and they are set to occur every month on the same date, if thats what your after.
There is a 30 day trial of it on the market place, search for Firewallet.

Yes, a direct debit planner is ideal.
I'll get my brother to download and test it out for me.
Thanks.
also check out easymoney. that's what I'm currently using after trying out several other options. I'm probably not as much of a power user as you, but I think easymoney can do what you want.
best of luck, and if you do find something perfect I'd like to hear your thoughts.

When I switched from WM to Android this was also one of my constraints.
Used to work with SPB Finance for years. It never really updated but did a very good job (planner included).
I have now found a good replacement in ClearCheckbook.com.
Is actually better as they also have a website account which syncs nicely with the Desire.
If by planner you mean repeating transactions then yes it is available.
Also have a good customer service .... quick at replying
Only downside is you need to pay for a subscription ....

Many thanks for the additional Apps to try.
My Brother is popping round tonight with his Desire in order I can try out a few of these titles.
I'll certainly post back which I found most comfortable in using.
Well, thanks once again Guys for all your input.... It has been most welcome and truly appreciated.
I've 'briefly' tried all the Apps you can install and can see both positives & negatives on all but admit these are based solely on my own personal requirements as one App may well suit one user very well whereas with another user it limits the usefulness.
Financisto ~ I found limiting to my requirements.
I was surprised there is no recurring payments or split transaction to name but two.
It was easy to navigate and in no time I was up and running with several accounts.
Location was different and useful. Definitely see a use for this.
Firewallet ~ I found the Bill Reminder (Planner) but it was limiting in the choices given.
Again I could not see any way to split a transaction and worse I could not find a category list.... Please update me if I got that wrong as again I only managed to test it out briefly.
EasyMoney ~ was by far the most professional App, both in it's design and operation of use.
There is so much you can play with this App and love.
Granted I personally would like more control over say individual category expense lists (ability to see at a glance how much each category has spent over a period of time) but of the three I tried EasyMoney held me captive longer.
With more time it could well be my choice... Next step is to purchase an Android and investigate it further myself.
ClearCheckbook.com ~ being an online accounts manager looks promising purely for the fact I can manage the accounts either on the Laptop or on the Android.
I did not get a chance to try this out; namely due to the fact I first need to create an account with ClearCheckbook and then see exactly what is transferred to the Android device.
It is one which I will investigate after I purchase my Android Phone so again my thanks Sjengie in bringing it to my attention.
Once again thank you all.
Without your input I would not have covered the ground I wish to undertake prior to my Phone purchase.
Cheers for the quick review. I'm after a finance app so I'll give some of these a try.
hi beards et al
I'm very much in the same boat as you & it is great to see I'm not the only one in this dilemma.
I will try easymoney again as I did not find it to be that good when I first looked into this a few months back.
I installed firewallet & got a quick response to a query from the developer re importing data so will try playing a bit more with that. (he advised me to create the accounts I want with a zero initial balance and then import transactions for each account one at a time. will definitely make living year to date transactions easier although I guess I'll have to add in all the categories too).
if you guys could share your methods of migrating your data across into yr new apps & any other tips & tricks that would be great!
also if there are enough of us cdnt we try lobbying a developer to tweak their app to our requirements or even get a WinMo dev to release an Android version of their app?
regards
Ansi

Thanks for the feedback Beards. Hope you get your Desire soon...
I'm also a SPB finance user on WM and I haven't found anything yet that does nearly such a good job for me on Android, (I've tried all those listed here and more) But another one to try is "Loot" it is free, there is a "pro" bolt on that costs money and adds a few extra features, for me it is one of the closest to SPB finance but still not close enough!
I'm currently still using my Touch Diamond 2 winmo phone for finance tracking (you'd be astounded how long the battery lasts if you leave it permanently in flight mode btw!)

Thanks... I'll mention this one to my Brother.
I know what you mean in not finding that perfect title.
Maybe it's because we are so much used to the WM application that we can only see what that particular title can give us.
I've loved using Cash Organizer for many years and I know no matter which Android application I find and use it's not going to give me the same as CO.
Having said this, I am sure there will be areas in Android where I did not realize I needed which I'll find and love.
As such I'm going to go in openly and receptive, to look only for the good in the program.
If I can't find the good then there's no point in afterward searching for the bad....
Now I need to focus my attention on getting my Android phone.
It's going to be difficult as my HD2 has for the past 6 months (or so) given me great service and I've been happy with the WM software.
But as we know, it's no point staying with a 'safe' product, you have to look outside the box to better your aims.
HTC Desire or Samsung i9000 Galaxy S
Don't you just love technology.
I don't know anything about this software, I just read a blog post about it...
http://www.mint.com/
Apparently its something from the iPhone that has just been brought to Android.
EDIT: Hmm...just been reading through and everything seems to be in dollars and how it "connects securely to nearly all US banking financial institutions". Could just be an American app.
EDIT 2: Just found this...
Does Mint.com support international banks?
Not yet. Currently Mint only supports US-based financial institutions. We hope to support financial institutions based outside of the US in the future.
Shame, looks pretty good.

Well I took the plunge and 'Pre-Ordered' my first Android.
After a lot of deliberation I altered my choice in getting the Desire to now opt for the soon to be released Samsung GT-i9000 Galaxy S.
The problem is I will have to wait until the end of the month when shipment is expected.
So, to all who participated I won't be able to make any follow-up on the software titles until after this date, sorry.

App development contest $100000 in cash

I found this today:
http://developer.bada.com/events/bada2.0-Power-App-Race?rlWlfcp=duq&isReturn=Y
and I thought that it is a great idea of Samsung to do that because money is of course a huge motivation factor to develop apps.
Contest runs from the 18th of October til the 31st of December.
First 10 developers who develop an App and put it on Samsung Apps will get a chance to win $100000 if their App will be downloaded 100000 times in the above called time-range. The App has to be developed with the bada SDK 2.0 tool (or above).
For further information visit the link above.
So please all of the great devs who are around here please develop great apps for Bada because it is Bada`s biggest problem to have a lack of useful apps but I like Samsung`s approach to this kind of problem, they are really trying to push their OS higher and higher.
I hate the idea of that contest and i announce it from now
We (Team VEA) are not going to enter that challenge because we are not sure if bada users will make 100,000 downloads of Voluntas in that short time
it is contest for games in our eyes not apps
Best Regards
If they wouldn't be sure of this, they wouldn't have set the download numbers so high
There are many millions of Bada handhelds, so I don't think that would be the problem

if Voluntas works well and will be uploaded gratis on the market I think it'll reach 100'000 download in about 10 days or minus.
However I also don't like this type of contest, the download counter could be increased with some stupid tricks.

It is also kind of weird that Samsung starts a Bada 2.0 contest when Bada 2.0 isn`t even officially released yet. I mean devs have to test the developed App on the device itself before putting it up on Samsung Apps (or am I wrong here?), so Samsung insists that developers who already start to develop an app do early testing of their app on a Beta Firmware, which isn`t the best thing to do I guess.
I don`t know if this is a smart move from Samsung starting a contest when the main firmware for it isn`t even out yet...

Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie Release Date, News And Rumours

Android 5.0 release date
Google has announced that its next developer conference - Google IO - will take place from May 15 to May 17 2013, a month earlier than 2012's June dates. Given that Google announced Android 4.1 Jelly Bean at 2012's IO conference, it's not unreasonable to expect to see Android 5.0 at this year's event On 31 January, a Google IO showing of Android 5.0 looked more likely when screengrabs of a Qualcomm roadmap were leaked, showing Android 5.0 as breaking cover between April and June 2013.
Android 5.0 phones
Rumours of a new Nexus handset started trickling in during the third quarter of 2012, as we reported on 1 October 2012. There was speculation that this phone would be sporting Key Lime Pie, but sources who spoke to AndroidAndMe correctly claimed that the handset, which turned out to be the Google Nexus 4 would be running Android Jelly Bean.
While the Nexus 4 didn't appear with a helping of Key Lime Pie, speculation that we reported on 21 January 2013 suggests that the Motorola X Phone is the Android 5.0-toting handset that will be revealed at Google IO. According to a post on the DroidForums website, the phone will also feature a virtually bezel-free, edge-to-edge, 5-inch display.
The same leaked Qualcomm documents cited above also made mention of a two new Snapdragon devices, one of which will be, unsurprisingly, a new Nexus phone.
Android 5.0 features
For 24 hours, it seemed as though the first kinda, sorta confirmed feature for Android 5.0 was a Google Now widget, which briefly appeared in a screenshot on the company's support forum before being taken down. As it was so hurriedly pulled, many people assumed it was slated for the big five-o and accidentally revealed early.
As it happened, the following day, on 13 February 2013, the Google Now widget rolled out to Jelly Bean.
So while we wait on Key Lime Pie features to be revealed and scour the web for more Android 5.0 news, TechRadar writer Gary Cutlack has been thinking about what we want to see in Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie. Hopefully the new mobile OS will feature some of these things...
Performance Profiles
It's bit of a fuss managing your mobile before bed time. Switching off the sound, turning off data, activating airplane mode and so on, so what Android 5.0 really needs is a simple way of managing performance, and therefore power use, automatically.
We've been given a taste of this with Blocking Mode in Samsung's Jelly Bean update on the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the Note 2 but we'd like to see the functionality expanded.
Something like a Gaming mode for max power delivery, an Overnight low-power state for slumbering on minimal power and maybe a Reading mode for no bothersome data connections and a super-low backlight.
Some hardware makers put their own little automated tools in, such as the excellent Smart Actions found within Motorola's RAZR interface, but it'd be great to see Google give us a simple way to manage states.
Another little power strip style widget for phone performance profiles would be an easy way to do it.
Better multiple device support
Google already does quite a good job of supporting serious Android nerds who own several phones and tablets, but there are some holes in its coverage that are rather frustrating.
Take the Videos app which manages your film downloads through the Play Store. Start watching a film on one Android device and you're limited to resuming your film session on that same unit, making it impossible to switch from phone to tablet mid-film.
You can switch between phone and web site players to resume watching, but surely Google ought to understand its fans often have a couple of phones and tabs on the go and fix this for Android Key Lime Pie?
Enhanced social network support
Android doesn't really do much for social network users out of the box, with most of the fancy social widgets and features coming from the hardware makers through their own custom skins.
Sony integrates Facebook brilliantly in its phones, and even LG makes a great social network aggregator widget that incorporates Facebook and Twitter - so why are there no cool aggregator apps as part of the standard Android setup?
Yes, Google does a great job of pushing Google+, but, no offence, there are many other more widely used networks that ought to be a little better "baked in" to Android.
Line-drawing keyboard options
Another area where the manufacturers have taken a big leap ahead of Google is in integrating clever alternate text entry options in their keyboards. HTC and Sony both offer their own takes on the Swype style of line-drawing text input, which is a nice option to have for getting your words onto a telephone. Get it into Android 5.0 and give us the choice.
A video chat app
How odd is it that Google's put a front-facing camera on the Nexus 7 and most hardware manufacturers do the same on their phones and tablets, yet most ship without any form of common video chat app?
You have to download Skype and hope it works, or find some other downloadable app solution. Why isn't there a Google Live See My Face Chat app of some sort as part of Android? Is it because we're too ugly? Is that what you're saying, Google?
Multi-select in the contacts
The Android contacts section is pretty useful, but it could be managed a little better. What if you have the idea of emailing or texting a handful of your friends? The way that's currently done is by emailing one, then adding the rest individually. Some sort of checkbox system that let users scroll through names and create a mailing list on the fly through the contacts listing in Android Key Lime Pie would make this much easier.
Cross-device SMS sync
If you're a constant SIM swapper with more than one phone on the go, chances are you've lost track of your text messages at some point. Google stores these on the phone rather than the SIM card, so it'd be nice if our texts could be either backed up to the SIM, the SD card, or beamed up to the magical invisible cloud of data, for easy and consistent access across multiple devices.
A "Never Update" option
This would annoy developers so is unlikely to happen, but it'd be nice if we could refuse app updates permanently in Android 5.0, just in case we'd rather stick with a current version of a tool than be forced to upgrade.
Sure, you can set apps to manual update and then just ignore the update prompt forever, but it'd be nice to know we can keep a favoured version of an app without accidentally updating it. Some of us are still using the beta Times app, for example, which has given free access for a year.
App preview/freebie codes
Something Apple's been doing for ages and ages is using a promo code system to distribute free or review versions of apps. It even makes doing little competitions to drum up publicity for apps much easier, so why's there no similar scheme for Android?
It might encourage developers to stop going down the ad-covered/freemium route if they could charge for an app but still give it away to friends and fans through a promo code system.
Final whinges and requests...
It's be nice to be able to sort the Settings screen by alphabetical order, too, or by most commonly used or personal preference, as Android's so packed with a huge list of options these days it's a big old list to scroll through and pick out what you need.
Plus could we have a percentage count for the battery in the Notifications bar for Android 5.0? Just so we know a bit more info than the vague emptying battery icon.

Most of the gapps i ever installed didnt, but yes on a sense rom you can find it and maybe an official ICS or JB that is meant for a certain phone. So i should have reworded that. You are correct though.

The FB phone hype ends

“It gave it (Facebook) this soul… We don’t want to build a phone or operating system that some people will use,” he says. “Even if we did build a really good phone we’d only serve 1% of our community… We’re not building a phone. We’re not building an operating system.”
Android is very open, Zuck says, so you can make many changes to it. “You don’t need to fork Android to do this… Today we’re going to talk about the Home Screen of your phone.”

MIUI Update 7.2.23 Review

Here is a quick review of the new MIUI update. Another useless update from Xiaomi. We have some new so called features in the ROM which we are gonna discuss.
1. The calculator [Discount Feature]
First of all, this thing is mathematically incorrect. Secondly, you just eliminated use of 1 or 2 button and called it an update. Also, when you go to a shop and there's a discount then you can ask the shopkeeper what will be the actual price instead of taking out your phone doing useless stuff and being looked at.
The normal procedure is this:
10000 - 10000*15%
and now it is:
10000 - 15%
Just look at it and tell me which one looks more convincing. And please tell me what are the situations in which I would use this feature, like I am dying or something so that I need to do a quick calculation? I am already wasting my time on shopping and if I waste few seconds on typing some extra numbers, it won't matter.
Preferable Features to be added in calculator:
->Just look at any Casio scientific calculator and implement those features, like:
->Graphing function
->the 'Ans' key feature - do you know this feature? with this you can summon the last answer whenever you want, just look at any Casio scientific calculator, this feature is damn useful ask anyone.
->Integration, differentiation, etc
2. Redesigned Music App
Not for global user, but looking at it even if it were for global user, I won't call it an update, because first of all it looks as cartoonish as before, the app isn't even good looking. I won't open that thing in public place because I don't want to be ridiculed at. I have heard that the Chinese version of the app has online music feature, if that's true then the feature is great but the design, i just don't like it.
Redesign of music app isn't called an update, but this is Xiaomi. So, even if you change an app's icon, it can be called an update.
3. Mi Finance
Again it's not for global user and even if it were, I won't call few bug fixes and changes in a companion app of MIUI an update to the system.
Verdict:
Yet another waste of 1 GB of your data, I don't recommend applying it. There are no bug fixes, just useless stuff. Tell us in the poll would you apply this update?
Well for MIUI progress you should head over to their community.
Btw... You could simple calculate 10000*0,85 ?
For me I don't care about these minor updates... And 1gb? I don't care either.
This is why I wiped off MIUI and moved to LineageOS.
MIUI beta updates are joke.
they could just give app update via store rather than giving rom update.
:silly:
