You know that ZIP files contain other files?
You know you can extract those files?
You know that there are different folders on disk?
You know that folders are in a tree-like structure?
You know where platform-tools folder sits under SDK folder?
You know how to move ZIP files where you need?
You know how to extract ZIP files in place?
Answer all these, and you'll know what to do.
If you don't know the answer to one or two specific questions - ask away.
If you don't know some of the answers and can't or don't want to look for them - please refrain from rooting. Rooting isn't just for fun, it gives you some powers over your phone that you need to know how to use - otherwise your phone will have a great potential to end up screwed.
Whoa alexriio!
You can find a lot of people here to help you but you will need to do 2 things first :
1- Please write complete sentence. It's so hard to read you; a lot of people will skip you post.
2- Read these tutorial :

My usual advice is :
1- Print all part of the tuto (tuto, downgrade to froyo, CM install...)
2- Read it carefully and come back here to ask questions
3- Prepare all file in distinctive folder (check all file with md5sum!)
4- Grab a coffee (or tea, or beer )
5- Attack!

Need help downgrading mytouch
Greetings. I've got a mytouch 4g. I have followed the instructions in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912. Excellent article. Every step works great. I have tried both the manual downgrade section and the fastboot downgrade section. Both methods appear successful. No error messages, etc... When the phone reboots it boots to a fresh 2.3.4. Im sure im skipping something simple. Any ideas greatly appreciated!

I have downloaded the file called dhd_root.zip and now what ?
some people are mentioning about the gscript and blar blar blar.. what is all that about??
i have no idea what to do now... please help..
*please do not flame me for not using the search function as i read few of them and i do not understand at all*
Thanks
I personally used Evostance's guide, it was very simple and easy to follow: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=834427
That's the link. I do believe there are simpler methods now using Visionary. Just check the Development sub-forum and they have more tutorials there

Hey Sylpher,
I did tried to read Evostance's guide but where is the guide?
Step By Step Guide - Download link below

http://www.multiupload.com/KK66WUNUWS
See the main thread for details on the root:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=805327 ----> i do not understand at all... all those code like listed below
Go to adb shell, switch to root (su) and do the following:
insmod /sdcard/wp-(version).ko
for example: insmod /sdcard/wp_g5ed1769.ko
This will disable wp (will be enabled on reboot though...)
dd if=/sdcard/hboot_eng.nb0 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
This will install engineering hboot
totally confused.
The link that he provides includes all the files + the tutorial (in a PDF file). So yeah just download that first and it should be quite straightforward from there on.

You can try this too, a member here compile it. http://hemorrdroids.net/overclock-undervolt-your-desire-hd/
if you dont already have a file explorer then download astro from market place
download visonary r12 from here and copy apk file to sd card on the phone and install from there
http://android.modaco.com/content/h...722/10-nov-r12-test-visionary-one-click-root/
download superuser from market place and install on the phone
make sure usb debuggging is enabled on the, also unkown sources is allowed phone(settings/applications/development)
run visionary and don not check any of the 3 box on the screen
run temp root and let it finish
then attempt perm root it will ask for super user permission, allow this and the phone should root and reboot
to test it has work down load adfree from market place and see if it runs, if it does you have full root

Although I wouldn't recommend anyone to rush into the act of rooting their device, do bare in mind, that the exploit we are using to obtain root will be patched sooner or later, so whilst thinking about it I would be very wary of applying any future OTA upgrades as so you may find you once more have an unrootable device
Ok people I'm pathetic.... I rooted using visionary installed titanium backup pro, astro, terminal emulator. I downloaded the root.rar files and put them onto the sd card. Unhooked my phone opened terminal typed su+enter but when I tried the sec command it wouldn't work I then went back into astro and h_boot and wpx are white in color and when I press on one of them it says file type ko not found. Can someone please please help me!!!! Do I have to have adb installed in order for the root.rar files to be found . Thank u very m much in advance. And if this is not the correct place to post this at let me know and I will move it thank u
Check out mackesters channel on YouTube he's got a good tutorial
Hey, you probably done all this... But thought I'd give a crack at it...
When trying to root using visionary
Quickly check these:
-did you have fastboot from >settings>applications turned off?
-was Set system r/w after root from visionary app checked?
-Temproot first
-Attempt permroot next
-Phone should reboot and you should see Super User app in the drawer.
Then follow the instructions here
If you wish to use root explorer to push the gfree file to /data/local you can do so too, its easier than adb commands.
Hope this helps. Good luck man.
Please post questions in the Q&A section.
Use root file explorer not Astro, check my signature. Also you said you downloaded the root.rar and placed it on sd, did you unzip it first?
Fastboot was off rw on. I don't know if I unzipped root.rar or not all I did was download it right click on it extracted to F drive moved to sd and in terminal is said not found our something when I entered the sec command.i did a factory reset so I'm starting fresh. What did I do wrong ? Thank u awesome people in advance
You sure you put the right file? Coz there are two gfree files...

Are you doing this in the phone or thru a pc via adb? If adb also copy the files from root.rar to sdk/tools then adb will see them

take everything that is in exploits.zip and move it to your android sdk directory specifically the location of adb.exe (will either be in platform-tools or tools) as for the two RUUs, they can be anywhere but you will have to move them at one point to your SD card. That is about it

That seems way harder than just grabbing the stock rom, renaming it PD15IMG.zip, holding volume down + pwr button on boot and flashing it. Why all those extra steps with adb and whatever?
Search this forum for a new zip file if the one you have is wrong.

Why? Because for newer ROMs it doesn't work this way, and they're not rootable. That's why it's called "downgrading".

Oh, I didn't realize that. I figured the hboot process would replace the system with the one from PD15IMG.zip. I guess we learn something new everyday
HBOOT only does it when it "thinks" the PD15IMG.ZIP contains something newer than what actually is on the phone. Thus the need to "hack" the /misc partition to make the HBOOT "think" it's older than it is.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions &

Moving to Q&A
I had this problem as well. Luckily there is a solution.
Plug in your phone, and open up My Computer and click on your Removable Disk icon so that it's highlighted (do not double click).
On the bottom, does it say File System: FAT32?
If the file system is not FAT32, you will receive that error.
There is a way to convert your SD card to FAT32, but this will clear all data on your SD card. Hence, I recommend making a backup. The process is quite simple, it took me about two minutes.
Open up command prompt (cmd in the search)
Now type in the following command at the prompt, replacing the X with the letter of your external hard drive of your SD card (For example, if plugging in your phone makes a Removable Disk (G appear, then replace the X with a G):
format /FS:FAT32 X:
This will format your SD card to a FAT32 file system. Once this is done, try flashing again and please tell me if it works.
Good luck
Did you Ever Wanted your Own Custom ROM? Did you don't understand other Guides? Do you don't Like ROM Kitchens? Than this Guide is the right Guide for you! Just Try It and you can create your Own Custom ROM!
General Information
So, Before we start with this Guide, i just want to tell you some General Informations about Custom Roms. When you buy your phone, you will have a Stock ROM installed. A Stock ROM is just that Software, your Company has created, especially for your phone. It's a Software like Android 2.3.4 with Touchwiz 4 or Android 4.0.4 with Sony UI. Those Softwares may be good, but there are many Things to Improve, for the Best Xperience, while using your Phone. A Custom ROM can be complete different to Stock ROM , like Cyanogenmod 10 , or be just a improved Version of the Stock ROM . To Build a Custom ROM you need to know a few Words, and have a Phone with Root Acess + S-OFF / Unlocked Bootloader. So in this Guide we will concentrate on the Easy Way, the Improved Stock ROM . You Can also Build a ROM out of Source from Google, but thats too complicated for beginners. Setting up compile envirment can be quite complicated . So let's take a look at stuff you need to know:
Root Acess
Complete Acess to all System Files, like Administrator on Windows. To Root Your Phone, search XDA. Rooting your Phone is done by putting su library to /system and manage acess with SuperSu or Superuser. When you buy your Phone, it doesn't have Root Acess. Root Acess is needed for installing CWM, mount your /system as Read & Writeable ----> You can delete system files, and installing apps to /system/app, by copying them to /system/app. By Rooting your Phone you loose Warranty, but you can reinstall stock software and no one will notice
ClockWorkMod Recovery (CWM)
Recovery Mode of your Phone. In Recovery you can install flashable zips and roms, wipe and format your device, mount different partititons and fix permissions... To Get CWM search XDA. There are different Ways for every Device. You can enter recovery before your device is fully booted, and since touchscreen drivers are not yet available you need to use the volume buttons for controlling the recovery. There are different ways of entering cwm for every device.
Rom & Kernel
ROM means: Read-Only-Memory . The Funny Thing is that we can Read and Write on our Read-Only-Memory. Anyway, its a partition which includes large parts of the OS ----> operating system of your Phone. In a ROM for Android Phones are included apps, framework, libs & many more and since android is modular, there is an app for everything (keyboard, launcher, statusbar). Together with a Kernel it's the "Life" of your Phone.
The Kernel is needed for a working Phone. You Can Install Stock or Custom Kernel. When you buy a Phone Stock Kernel is preinstalled of course. The kernel includes many drivers, controlls the cpu and does many more... Just rember that word
General Information
1. Install Stock ROM to your Phone - This Can be Done by Flashing via Flashtool or Odin. You Need a Clean Base to Start. Recomnend is a Stable, Official ROM, like Gingerbread, Ice Cream Sandwich or maybe Jelly Bean.
2. Root the ROM. This Can be done with Different Tools, Very Popular is for Example SuperOneClick Tool.
Just search for "my device name root" in xda if your not sure
3. Improve Stock ROM on Your Phone. So, After You Have Installed the Stock ROM and Rooted the ROM You Can Start. Now You Need To Change Some Things, To Make the Stock ROM to a Customized ROM. You Can do a lot Things, Here are a Few Examples:
- Install Latest Superuser SuperUser
- Install Latest BusyBox Auto-Installer
- Supercharge the ROM, enable Zipalign etc.. ----> here
- Remove Bloatware. Use Es File Explorer to remove not longer needed apps in system/app partitition
- Tweak Build.prop by going with ES File Explorer to /system and editing your build.prop. now you can change the Name shown in Settings and do a lot more ----> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1227269
- Change the Bootanimation. You can find a lot of them by Going to themes and apps of your own device.
- Add or Change Apps. Check out Themes and Apps Selection of Your Device and Install a few Of Them, If You Are Allowed to use MooDeD Apps created by other Users
3.1 Now Delete/remove all backups in clockworkmod/backup folder
4. Now Make Sure You Have Installed CWM. If You Have Changed a Lot Things and You Think Your ROM is good enough, Boot to CWM, select wipe data/factory reset and Boot up again. If You Are Still able to Boot, Check the ROM for Bugs or Problems. Write them Down. Try to fix them. You can always take a logcat (adb logcat)
Than Boot again to CWM select wipe data / Factory reset ---> yes advanced ---> wipe battery stats ---> yes. Now Select backup & Restore ---> Backup.
5. Connect Your sd card to PC and go to Clockworkmod/backup folder. Now Go to the only 1 backup folder and copy "system.img" to your PC.
6. On PC Open Yaffey and Choose Open ---> system.img and than extract to empty folder called system.
7. Now You Will Get a Folder "system" which contains the System of your Phone. Now Create an Empty .zip file and paste in extracted Meta-inf folder Download and copy folder "system" inside. ROM should be flashable for NOW!
Remeber to mount /system before flashing // replace with mount Script for ur device... You can check this by dowoading any rom 4 ur device
NOTE: This has nothing to do with developmemt or original development in any way. Its theming a stock ROM in the simplest way...
Just Press thanks if this was helpfull in any way...
