Thats fantastic news

Awesome if it is true!! I am test driving the aosk ics right now and all I really miss is the hardware decoding.

Do you know if someone is compiling it right now?

What does this actually mean? Considering it was posted 2 days ago, i assume it has little to no bearing on getting ics to our tabs. I could be very wrong though

You are wrong. Those tegra drivers are needed for hd in ics.

I would assume that the kernel will be implemented in the latest CM9 kang, no? Any word on when a new version of that is coming out? They must be trying to fine tune it as there isn't a whole lot left to sort out. I mean pretty much the camera, some wonky animations and HD video playback. Even with those "drawbacks" it blows honeycomb out of the water. It truly is amazing!!

Agreed...as soon as they implement pershoots newest kernel into the most updated Kang I'm reflashing ICS....
The camera doesn't really bother me but as a daily driver, I need HD video playback.
So excited. I would assume the official Sammy release of ICS should come soon as I'm guessing they will push ICS to the 10.1 first out of all their tabs as it is technically their "ace" in the "bullpen" if you will.

I am completely not interested in an official Samsung update. This is the first ROM that I have ever flashed and I have no intentions of going back to stock. If it helps ROM development that would be great but a world without touchwiz is a beautiful thing.

How is 720p playback in this rom?

So is all the android lag gone with ICS?

How much smoother is ics than honeycomb?
1) Is portrait mode lag gone(A lot laggier on portrait than landscape on honeycomb)
2) Is the browser as smooth as the ipad's now?
3) Scrolling between pages on the homescreen still laggy or smooth?
I didn't use the ics much so I don't remember how the portrait lag is but yes. The rom was smoother and it is still in beta. When ics is a finished product it will blow honeycomb out of the water

It isnt iPad smooth but ICS removed a lot of the lag.
I wonder if they fixed the HDMI audio issue with ICS?
Please?
Obvious troll is obvious.

I don't think it's fixed yet, but soon.
And regarding the Honeycomb lag...ICS is supper smooth...iPad smooth as far as I'm concerned. Super fast and smooth.

I agree. The nightly rom is super fast and smooth. It takes only 30 seconds to open my xoom now where in Morey rom it took more than 3 minutes!!
I hope the final Tiamat Ics rom will be a champion.
I'm pretty shocked at just how big of a jump ICS was on my Xoom... I'm on a Xyboard now (unfortunately) so it's gonna be a while before I have ICS It's also likely gonna be a long time before I even can get root, I've already tried every method I could find, I'm just not experienced enough to figure out exploits on my own...

I just tried to restore my Honeycomb backup to be on a more "complete" ROM until ICS is more complete, but found I could NOT stand the lag. Latest EOS nightly is leaps and bounds better than honeycomb. Maybe its my Gnex that makes my honeycomb Xoom feel slow.
Even this beta release of ics has made me love the Xoom, I liked it with honeycomb but its a whole new level with ics
The Xoom feels like a brand new tablet with Ice Cream Sandwich. It definitely makes me happier than my experiences with Honeycomb and the browser.

The only ICS build I had bad battery life with was one of the first straight AOSP ones to show up here on XDA. Been using EOS nightlies for a week or so now and have been getting the same great battery life I've always gotten from my Xoom.
No battery issues here either. As of Nightly build 17, it will not connect to a wireless AP with a hidden SSID.

This is an Android thing.
The problem with having hidden SSIDs in your known network list is that you have to query to see if the network is there every single time you scan, which sucks down battery like a pig. The Google engineers decided early on not to support hidden for this reason.
All arguments about whether it's a valid means of securing a network aside, you can hack it in by modifying the supplicant conf, but it will impact battery.

ReloadedRom Rocks!

After testing many of the KF ROMs around here. I am stick to the ReloadedROM. The latest release 1.1 it is pretty stable... we are just missing a new kernel allowing hardware acceleration and... that is it.
Agreed, the new version of the rom is flawless except for the minor exception of hwa. Has anyone tried to use the blue reflective soft key mod yet? I can't seem to get it to work

Agree! it runs smoothly. On my kindle, it froze when using APEX launcher, but after switched to Trebuchet 0.1, it hasn't had any problem.

Once again, Thank you. I love all the support! My computer kinda crapped out on me but it is working pretty good again, I really should get a new one! The OP was updated with a new bug (build.prop messup [my mistake]) so be sure to read it!
This ROM was my first ever flash on the KF, and I'm super satisfied.
I mistook-ingly believed the lack of HWA would cause the UI to feel choppy and that games wouldn't run fine.
I don't know what lack of HWA is losing me, because everything feels pretty freaking awesome and games run fine.

Is it worth flashing?

So guys I was asking myself "is it worth flashing?". Why you ask? Well because if I took a look in the development section and it doesn't look like any of the current roms out are stable and they all seem to have many know issues. So I would like to know what you have flashed and how you like the experience compares to stock rom?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
I have flashed a bunch of roms on this tab. Most of them are stable now. ALL of them running ics are better than the honeycomb touchwiz that comes pre installed. The only caveat I say to you, is that the camera still isn't working on the roms I've been using as my dailies. (Aokp and Nightlies) If that's a deal killer for you, then stay away from the ics builds for now. But I can tell you as someone who has a 2 year + old Droid Incredible running ics AND this tab running ics, I can never go back. Its just THAT good. Especially on this tab where it Truly shows off the big improvements on the OS.

Ah OK. (Just realised you're right)
I'm using overcome 2.3.1. It's not ics. It's pretty nice. Went from multiple daily reboots to 3 or 4days of uptime. I use it a lot for reading, browsing, netflix, remote mgmt of servers and it holds up well. I bought 3 Samsung docks and have it hooked up to my home theater for music via hdmi, on my nightstand (ditched the tv in the bedroom) and another in my office. I wouldn't have been able to keep it without a rom. Give it a shot. Take your time and read up, it's pretty simple. I'm kinda pissed they made such a great tablet and put such a horrible buggy os on it.
I saw all the comments here suggesting to throw a rom on it to improve performance but I didn't put much stock in it. It's not an exaggeration. You have to ditch the tw launcher too. I'm using Go's tablet edition. I guarantee you will not go back to stock. I chose overcome because it's really stable. No point trying to escape bugs and using a buggy rom.
Getting off my soapbox now. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Yes that was one of my major concerns of ics. I'm running dark sides evolution 2 beta 3 on my sgs2. But when I came here to read about the 10.1 ics versions I was kind of sad. Because like it was said the 10.1 is awesome but cannot be used on stock w/o mods. I really just want to get on a stable release that doesn't have this issue where you could only charge your tab with the wall charger. I need a different kernal.

With Task v14, I feel that the Galaxy tab is vastly improved from the stock bloatware.
I don't really care about ICS on the Galaxy. Task 14 is so good, I don't see ICS as improving much. I have ICS running on HP Touchpad and Kindle Fire, right now.
it's nice, but IMHO not really worth all of the hype over an optimized GB ROM. YMMV.
Task v 14 is really great, highly recommend it over any ics roms.

I looked at all the major roms on the dev page and Overcome seemed to be the safest stable rom.

my $.02: My use-case for my tablet is almost entirely at home. I have the Wi-Fi only model, so I don't do a lot of "mobile" stuff with it. I have a Galaxy Nexus phone which I generally carry everywhere.
What I thought: As a techie, I want everything to be fully working just because, and as a result I cannot accept a tablet without a working camera!
Real Life: I use my tablet for IM, web browsing, reading comics, and playing games, generally around the house or while commuting. That's actually it. Number of times I did a video chat on my tablet: 1. Number of times I actually wanted to video chat on my tablet: maybe 2. Because I work with a Galaxy Nexus all the time, having the same OS & ROM on both devices is honestly nicer / easier / more lazy-friendly. Its honestly pretty slick to have Chrome syncing across my computers, my phone, and my tablet.
I recently tried to go back to Honeycomb since I once again thought "gee maybe I should use the camera on my tablet". Honeycomb just feels like ICS with training wheels on it I really don't like it as much. This probably as much a placebo effect as anything. Also, the camera isn't as good as my Galaxy Nexus or my actual camera, and I feel like a douche holding my tablet up to take a picture. Would being able to Skype on my tablet be cool? Yes. Would I use it that often? No.
I'm going back to AOKP damnit. I can deal with a non-working camera for a while.
And GPS??? My device doesn't have mobile data, so it really doesn't matter to me that much, even though I thought it would.
Bottom Line: You can back all your stuff up, and you're not out anything, so why not try it?

AOKP vs Stock vs Nexus 7 video

Hey guys,
made this quick video to show the difference between AOKP and the stock ROM. Wanted to show more of the performance differences. they are pretty much the same when both running at the same clocks.
also at the end I brought my nexus 7 to show that that fared with the AOKP and they were definetly close. I could personally tell the 'butter' experience on the nexus 7 next to the SGS3, but not sure if you will see it on the video.
anyways, hope you enjoy it, and excuse my accent!

Its a good phone with great development still !
Stock ICS is okay-ish, But whack in a custom kernel (essential) and it will make a massive difference, Besides, there are some awesome JellyBean leaks out now with tons of features so theres no point even thinking about ICS.... its history.
However, If you had that little extra $$$ why not consider getting the Note 2 ? there are some deals in the UK where the phone is free, but the montly payment is around £35 GBP
I assume thats what you meant by free right ? cause if someone is actually giving you this for free with NO contract at all....... TAKE IT !!!!
Note is always a good phone to buy even after 6 months from now. For now it has enough power that is needed by a tab or phone....
I am using it for the past 9 months and is still on stock ics 4.0.4 and its working way too perfect for me no lags or hangs. Still a best choice at a now reasonable price. Go for it.

They stick their half-assed Gingerbread UI to ICS, made performance worse, and totally makes a total mess that makes Note completely horriffic to use.

I have some old people that are rocking ics just fine. Its all relative, some better experience on ics, some gb, some jb.
Personally I was dissapointed with ics cause it would better utilize the hardware then gb. Considering the hardware integration in OS functionality, it wasnt to great. Android wide problem.
Problem I have JB is the ram bloitedness. The phone slows doen when apps are loaded, whilst theoretically this shouldnt be the case for android OS.
I notice the degradation of its specs in performance. So if your going to buy something that should last I'd recommend buying the newest stuff.
However if you do light browsing, no multitasking, then this is a perfect device, now also cheaper.
If you do multitasking, even with supercharging and bulletprooving apps you will find loads of reloads when switching apps. Kinda sickens me, why load it in memory if it cant keep the state properly (apple can do this)... The newest leaks look promising, but they will lag.. Then again if youre a light user it should be fine.
I noticed I almost never use pc when I got this phone.

Kinda sickens me, why load it in memory if it cant keep the state properly (apple can do this)... The newest leaks look promising, but they will lag.. Then again if youre a light user it should be fine.
I noticed I almost never use pc when I got this phone.

You're talking old as in aged old or like old pals? In case of former, there'd be no problem !
Yep, TW-ICS really sucked.
Have not noticed any of the ram problems you have mentioned although I haven't been on JB-TW for a very long time.Try CM10.1.The new builds are very good !
Ics dont suck at all. The earlier releases of ics had some issues but those that are released late like in the regions of india pakistan and middle east. Its working way too perfect, with no ram leaks and plenty unused memory. They fixed the battery and other issues. Yes the notification menu is almost same as was in the GB. But overall a better experience than GB.
Note and s2 are among the first phones to get the ics.

nah really old palls. In my community there is a strong connection between young and old. We dont put away our elderly and isolate them like in some countries. Or so I have been told.

Go for the note. You have my recommendations and if it comes with gingerbread use it for sometimes like a week or so and then update it to ice cream sandwich and you will see the difference urself. U missed the time when people were dying waiting for the ics update. Including me..
Somethings are better to be experienced and getting a note will be a good one.

Go for it unless you can afford note 2.
Stick on 10.1 JB 4.2.1. It rocks with no crashes at all. Stick on inverted gapps for good measure with additional apps.

They stick their half-assed Gingerbread UI to ICS, made performance worse, and totally makes a total mess that makes Note completely horriffic to use.
JB solved all that. Almost thrown my phone out of the window.

ICS for Note was what Vista was for Windows: bloated and slow.
JB is like Windows 7: lean, mean awesome OS!

JB is still a leaked version so no official comments on JB from my side .
Custom JB roms are not for me. Samsung hid the source and dev cant make it fully functional and fixed.... Still some had good results after flashing.
So am still waiting.

I cannot understand why some people say that ICS on the Note sucks. In fact it runs smoothly, it's stable, no problems at all. The only disadvantage of ICS is the brickbug. JB on the other hand is still in beta stage. If you go for JB you will have to deal with force closed app, sudden sleep of death, bootloops and the like. JB on the Note is not ready to be used as everydays rom. It's not yet reliable.

Running ICS stock with speedmod kernal and the only complaint I have day to day about the phone is the black crush in videos. Otherwise its great. Battery life, power, phone use, gps, etc, etc.
