Hi,
my brother wants to upgrade his phone to 2.3.5 but to do this, first of all he wants to backup everything.
To use the program Titanium Backup ( Busy Box ) his phone needs to be rooted.
I already tried Z4Root, but that doesn't seems to be enough for Busy Box.
searched this forum, but the posts I found where about how to root 2.3.5, can somebody help me or refer me to a program how I can root froyo on this phone?
Thanks !

I live in South Korea and had my Tab rooted with the Z4 root app, but after the December update a couple weeks ago, I lost root. I tried the Z4 app again, and it gets to aquiring root shell, then closes. I also tried the other app mentioned somewhere called super easy one click, or something like that. It also didn't work.
Do I just have to wait for a new root update to come out? I am a noob and don'teven know about JMB or JMU and all that. I am just looking for an easy way to root.

Hi, you can use SuperOneClick v1.5.5 to root your device
by the way , Do you have the original ROM for SHW-M180S ?
Hello. Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately, I don't have the original Rom. I am not even 100% sure what that means. Is that the stock software and firmware that came with my tab when I first turned it on?
I have been trying to find the original rom for days, but can't seem to find it anywhere. Do you have a link for it? If I install it, will that bring me back to 2.2? I am ready to give up 2.2.1 just so I can get my root back.
Thanks again for helping a noob!!

Hi to all,
I am also living in South Korea in Jinju. I have just bought my galaxy tab last week. I have downloaded some games but I could not make them full screen than I found that by using spare parts, it is possible to make the applications and games full screen. However, spare parts app which I downloaded from market did not work properly in my tab.
My first question, why spare parts do not work in my tab???
Secondly, I had the same error while rooting with z4root. Could you please give more detailed information how did you succeed to root your device?
Regards,
Cagri

Dear U.cagri dogan,
Eventhough spareparts makes some applications or games scale to full screen, most of these scaled games have compatibility issues with touch controls. According to me, spare parts is mostly useless for the games but maybe a few games are compatible like PSX4DROID.
For native full screen games list for TAB, please refer to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=897901
I use SuperOneClickV55 to ROOT my TAB. Follow the instructions below to root with SuperOneClick.
1- Go to Phone Settings-Applications-Development and CHECK " USB Debugging "
2- Connect USB cable both Phone and PC and wait till PC installs some drives.
3- Run SuperOneClick
4- Click to Root Button and done after a few automatic process.
5- Unplug USB Cable and reboot device. ( optional )
6- Go to Phone Settings-Applications-Development and UNCHECK " USB Debugging "
7- Download BusyBox from market
8- Run busybox and give permission when SuperUser asks for it.
9- In Busy Box, Choose version 1.7.0.1 and install.
10- Your device is full rooted now.
Hope this helps...
Kind Regards,

Thanks for the help in fixing my camera issues !!
My next question is, am I still rooted once I updated to 2.2 ?? The Market doesnt seem as extensive as it was when I was rooted on 2.1
I am pretty new at all this stuff, how can you tell if your rooted on 2.2, and if I'm not, how can I properly root it again ??

root and Market are not related. You need to change your phone fingerprint to the Nexus 1 to show all the protected applications again as Google does not recognize the DK28 fingerprint.
However, you need to be rooted to edit the file. See the following thread for the fingerprint. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=848778

One way to check is to open up a terminal and type "su"
To get root back, use the one click installer.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=770388
Or flash a Tom to get all the apps. If you want to find out if your rooted just download titanium from the market. As soon as you open it it will say asking for root rights.

ok, here comes the idiot question of the night....
is there any way to root my phone, without having to use a computer to download any files ??
When my friend originally rooted my phone when I was on 2.1, he didnt have to use a computer, he was able to do it right on the phone itself (not sure what he did, tbh)

To tell if you're rooted - install an app like Titanium Backup, which needs root to function properly. If you're not rooted, there won't be access to the market.
For root if you've lost it, your best option may be to install a custom ROM, which are usually pre-rooted. Besides, most custom ROMS are better than what comes stock. Which custom ROM will depend on your needs.
My problem was that I would download SuperOneClick and it would not give me actual root. The SuperUser icon was in my app drawer but if I tried to use any apps that required root access they wouldnt let me. When I opened Super Manager and clicked "Enable Root Access" a popup would come up and it would say something like "Your ROOT image will not work" or something like that.
The problem was this:
I found out that I had downloaded the most recent version of SuperOneClick. This version will not give root if you had the official 2.2. update. You needed to download the 1.5.5 version.
I hope this will help anyone who made the same mistake as me.
anybody? im freaking out since no one else has had this problem.
Try enable USB debugging

You should repost the OP with the solution in case someone else has the problem, if not people will search in vain.

I also have problems with rooting my andriod, I ran Titanium Backup but it required root access to work, so I downloaded z4root and universal root apk, it says that my phone is rooted but still Titanium Backup cant detect any root access.
Also my Link2sd App(app2sd alike) also requires root, I think I rooted my phone but still doesn't work. A noob like me really need your help guys.. thanks in advance..
BTW i am running 1.6 andriod firmware.
Easiest way I've found is to use AIO Vibrant Toolbox. I'm on my phone so I can't link it but just go to the development section and look for the post with the program name in the thread title. It's super easy to root with it. Just follow the included directions!

1.6? do you have a t959 vibrant? if you do, you need to get to stock 2.1 JFD, then you can follow these instructions:

or go with the AIO toolbox which is more user friendly

Hope some of our friends are working on these.

At the moment you can't get permanant root on 2.2. You can get a temporary root, but that wont let you edit anything on /system. If you can find someone with an xtc clip you can get your phone S-OFF which makes /system writeable.
Downgrading seems to be easy based off the 2 or 3 step by step guides I've seen on this forum so far.
Your questions are no different to any of the ones asked before by others, please use the search next time.
Downgrading will work, but, it will still be unrootable. As said above, the only way as of now to root 2.2 is by using an XTC Clip hardware box to get S-OFF, then, downgrade (this is a 'proper' downgrade) and root.

I don't believe this. Because that process was not a newer one and was there long ago. If it worked, it must have became a lot popular by now. And "Universal Androot" is not a root application recommended for NAND locked devices like wildfire. If one has bypassed the nand security with xtc clip and made s-off, then this process might work. And once if u make s-off, there are many other rooting options available. But the point here is to root the wildfire with hboot 1.01 and S-ON dude.... Do not just stick with the thread title. Read the thread, he mentioned wildfire 2.2 clearly.
I doubt whether ur device is wildfire or not (if wildfire rooted or not). Check the below attached "Root and Me" application. In that, go to the root guides and check the compatible devices for "Universal Androot" process. There is no wildfire in that.
Just confirm any process after it worked with u guys.

U might not have asked this question if u know that his process is nothing but "Universal Androot".
Inspite of being aware, i just tried it for u. It won't work and says failed.
If anyone wants to recheck they might. Actually that process is little bit confusing. And im attaching a screen shot of that website below.
The process says to install "App installer" just to install an apk file. Cant we install an apk file from a file manager ? This is ok.
Then the process says just to enable usb debugging alone to transfer the apk file frm PC to wildfire. It not even says from ADB, so i expect it means to transfer through disk drive. Come on stop joking.
I found that this forum
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953
was very helpful I am running droid 2.2 Froyo on a Cherry Mobile Candy
I was able to root my phone semi permanently. So long as I don't clear the data for the Z4root program I maintain superuser status. So far I have had no problems and have been able to remove bloatware using AntTek App manager with ease.
thanks man

Aye, just read the stickies - and if you have any problems, just ask. Its also useful to learn basic adb handling while rooting, like how to push apks to your phone and such.
