Hi,
After I installed Internet Sharing, in my Samsung Focus, it is not recognized by any PC !
I tried all USB ports in my notebook, in others desktops, but in every machine, the Samsung Focus won't was recognized !!!
Simply show the message "USB Device Not Recognized", and in the Unknown Device Properties, appears the message "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"
I tried installed, the USB driver in "C:\Program Files\Zune\Drivers\Zune", but unsuccessfully.
I tried many MicrosoftFix, but unsuccessfully.
I reinstalled Zune, but unsuccessfully.
Nothing works !
I guess that something in the phone is blocking the connection from any PC.
It simply isn't recognized.
Please I need Help !!!
Installed xaps: Diagnosis, DiagProvXML, Samsung Tools, in Settings/System(Internet Sharing, Registry Editor and Advanced Config)
Trouble: I have many pictures, videos in it and some solutions is the dangerous hard reset, but I can't backup my data.
I appreciate someone with the magical solution, because until now, everything that I tried, I did not get succeed !
Thanks in advance.
Try re-installing the Samsung driver.
I've run into this a number of times on a number of different phones... Each time, after uninstalling and reinstalling drivers/software, it ends up being my USB cable. You might try another one, to rule it out.
It just happened to me again this week.

Have you tried a different Micro USB Cable yet? It might be that simple, and it would rule it out if it's not.
Perhaps you tried to enable tethering in the past with the tethering codes, through the dialer? I had a similar issue with a phone this week. If this is your problem, here is the fix:
Open the phone screen composition
Enter the code: # # 634 # > Press Call<br.
This will open a new screen will be similar but in test mode
Then type in the code * # 7284 # > Press Call
See the screen that you see in the picture > Select "ZUNE SYNC"
The phone will restart

I tried this yet without success.
Any luck
I'm experiencing the exact same issue. Has there been any luck with this? I'm worried as I have a bunch of content on my phone, but I can't easily back it all up.

Whenever i plug in my i9000, it just pop up an error msg ÜSB Device not recognized. I'm trying to get Kies to recognize my i9000
I tried following this but it doesnt work at all.
it worked for me on kies, but i didn;t like it anyways
What i did was go to settings --> about phone --> usb settings
and try the other options (i'm using media player option, not sure why mass storage doesn't work)
Did you try to change the usb ports on your pc (stick the cable into different usb ports)?

changing the usb port does help, however when i unplug it and restart my com, it does not recognize it anymore
What OS are u running?
Could also have something to do with the number of irq's on your motherboard.
PC's older then aprox. 3/4 years have less irq's and can have trouble with much external devices

Have a look at this site from HardwareZone.com.
It's heavily populated but you only need to read the last five or so pages.

keevy17, u have the phone already? If yes, you could help us resolve our questions in last pages of this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694835&page=9
Q: Are there any notifications (on screen, backlight of buttons, ...) about missed calls, new mails, sms? Is there any notification when u charge the battery and the battery is fully charged?
Thanks in advance.
The default USB connection is to activate Samsung Kies. You'll have to go to settings->About Phone->USB Settings to change. If it doesn't work after changing, soft reset the phone and try again.
Caused me a bit of head scratching until I went through the options.
Now am having same problem, can'r see mass storage in my computer.
I think I read you need to enable USB Debugging then it will work. for both of you I believe.
With USB debug i can only use adb, nothing works. If i disable debug i can copy files via MTP protocol but mass storage doesn't work.
Edit.
Found the problem, it doesn't mount it self like Desire/N1 i had mount it my self. All working.

It was bit tricky to start with as i thought my phone is broke. First go to setting > About > USB Settings > and select Ask on connection. Plug the cable in to the and from drop down notification bar and hit USB connected then you get the option to mount the mass storage.

If you want kies to work with the phone, dont kill MTP.. But kies is acting weird, soemtimes it doesnt see the phone, but after unplug and replug it works again.. I've given up on kies actually, over 100MB to download and worst than some beta software i've used.
also, i cannot get samsung apps to work on kies, it just error or timeout.. you guys hv any luck?
I haven't tried kies yet, i'll try when i get home from work.
Anybody know how to mount on a Mac? I tried changing the USB settings to Mount/Media, no luck. Any help would be appreciated.
Ran into a rather bad problem today after flashing to Kyrillos 3.0 Final and trying to root my phone.
Windows just won't connect my phone. If I uninstall the drivers, it works for the first time after I restart the computer and Windows installs them, but after that they just stop working.
There's also an "unknown device" in the device manager list, below the "Android USB composite device" that fails to install its drivers.
I've tried everything Google threw at me, but I can't find a fix for this.
Edit:
It appears I have a found a fix:
I reinstalled all of the phone drivers and now I can connect my phone if I switch USB ports every time I connect it. Luckily, I have two ports in front so I can easily switch between them.

No I have not, I'm not gonna do it before I know what it does.

Thank you so much! It fixed everything, I couldn't get my phone to connect at all after rooting and partitioning!
Ok so here's the thing. This morning when I woke up I dropped my phone on the floor and the battery flew out.Initially I thought it was nothing but later it started rebooting without any good reason. I tried restarting, it would stay on for a bit then it would go down again. I am(was) running CyanogenMod 7 on a Samsung Galaxy SI. I want to reflash it with Odin as it won't start anymore. At first it would just boot loop but now it won't even get past the first logo. The tricky part is that my PC won't recognize it , all I get is Unknown Device code 43 yada yada BS! I tried alot of drivers, I tried the have disk method with the usb driver from SDK Tools , nothing worked ! Please, give me some suggestions about what I should try more because honestly this is beyond my expertise in this domain.

Microsoft engineers answer
I suggest that you connect the Controller to a different USB port and check if you have the same issue.
If this does not work, you can try to uninstall and reinstall the USB controller.
To remove and reinstall all USB controllers, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, type Device manager and open device manager.
2. Right-click every device under the Universal Serial Bus controllers node, and then click Uninstall to remove them one at a time.
3. Restart the computer, and then reinstall the USB controllers.
Disable and enable the USB device:
1. Click on start and type devmgmt.msc.
2. Right click on the caution sign on the USB.
3. Select disable and reboot the computer.
4. Enable the device after reboot.
Also make sure that you download and install the latest version of Software for this. Here is a link you can follow to download the Software:

try and borrow another original samsung USB cable to test first, this is a major culprit, as numerous people including myself have experienced
what happens is one of the pins on the micro usb plug of rolls in and gets broken , also check your USB slot a good cleaning with a brush and alcohol would be good fro the connection ( do it when you have removed battery)
Got another USB cable still nothing... It's very weird, it's like nothing I heard off or read on the forums... Is there any method of connecting to the mobile using SDK manager ? I'm not really familiar to working with the SDK manager.

was your cable an original samsung cable, IF not, many common cable do not work, due to pin configurations
For ADB, you still need connection with USB cable
Here's another thing I could try. If I go to Device Manager - Right Click on Unknown Device - Update Driver Software - Browse I can choose from a list of Samsung Drivers... The question is , which one do I have to choose for my Galaxy S ? Maybe it will work like this

I think you have misunderstood it, there are many solutions mentioned there in, cause I am the one who wrote it ..your option was to try them all to see which one solved it
for win 7 . download this driver http://www.4shared.com/zip/0LQRmsMm/usb_driver.html and give it a go, if the other failed
Tried everything from your guide...even from the microsoft sites...Still can't get my device to be recognized...If I use the Usb driver you sent it won't let me use them even if I manually choose it for my device. Don't really know what to do more honestly other than throw it away and get another phone
http://cagnazzo.name/drupal/vista_corrupted_driverstore
Try the above, then install the Samsung drivers and then connect your device.

Hi, I am posting here because I'm having a very annoying issue with my Galaxy S4
When trying to connect it to the PC via USB, nothing happens, it does start charging, but I can't transfer files (or flash through Odin for example)
It did work untill 2 days ago, I rooted it, it kept working, then it suddenly stopped
I have now tried many solutions, wich are:
Hard Reset in both ways
Reinstalling Drivers on PC
Trying different USB ports
Trying different PC's
Trying different cables
Wiping and reinstalling ALL USB Drivers on PC
Formatting my PC (Windows 7 x64)
USB Debugging both activated and deactivated
I have also tried to access *#7284#, but the "Qualcomm USB Setting" option is missing, could that be the issue?
If so, how can I restore it?
(I have tried changing it to Official status while keeping the root to update it to the last version, but it was already at the last version)
My device is currently Rooted
Device info:
Model number: GT-I9505
Android version: 4.2.2
Baseband version: I9505XXUAMDM
Kernel version: 3.4.0-431985
se:[email protected] #1
Build number: JDQ39.I9505XXUAMDE
Status: Custom
Please help me, I'm truly desperate
I think the easiest option is to try another PC just to eliminate the PC. I know you have done the format/reinstall but it's worth eliminating it.
I've had a right headache trying to update the firmware on mine and while my W8 laptop won't do it (Kies won't even show current firmware), my work W7 got a step further but still did not do it. It was only once I got into work did it work.
It could be something as sinister as the Windows firewall blocking it so check this - W7 will automatically enable it ...if you have another one installed on top, it could be that blocking it

Dude, this will sound stupid but I am on XP and my S4 connected fine with a friends Windows 7 box but my PC did exactly what you are saying.
I searched and tried installing Kies and USB drivers etc ... but nothing worked.
After hours of searching the internet I found the answer here on XDA (as always)
The answer which worked for me was......
HERE's THE SOLUTION:
1. Go to the Registry Editor (Start --> Run --> "regedit" --> [ENTER])
2. Search the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\
3. If you click one of the few subkeys in class (e.g. {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}) you'll find the string value (Standard) on the right side with a value (e.g. DVD/CD-ROM-Drives)
4. You have to find the value "Portable Devices" on the string value (Standard) (In my case {EEC5AD98-8080-425f-922A-DABF3DE3F69A}, but I don't know if they are called always the same.
5. Once found, you see a string value called UpperFilters --> DELETE IT!
6. Finished! Now your Samsung Mobile MTP Device should be recognized and even installed correctly right away. (The name of the device changed to GT-I9100 (Devicemanager) in my case...)

Damn. sorry. guess its XP only.
Ok.. Have you got Allow USB debugging set on in Developer options?
Activate Developer options:
Open Settings on your Android phone or tablet.
Scroll down to About and tap it.
Now tap Build number seven times.
After tapping the Build Number 7 times, you will see a message “You are now a developer!” If you have a Galaxy S4 or any other Samsung Galaxy device with Android 4.2, the message reads as follows- “Developer mode has been enabled”.
Return to the main Settings menu and now you’ll be able to see Developer Options.

if so ... try this: (posted by rohan999)
So here is the cure. First connect your phone to your pc. Now right click my computer and select manage. Go to device manager and expand the universal serial bus controllers tab. Now you should see something like unknown device with a yellow exclamation mark. Right click it and select uninstall. Now reconnect your phone and try it.
Now again check in device manager after installation. It should look like the one in the attachment.

Running CM 10.1.3, I can no longer connect the phone to my PC (Win 7, x64). There is no acknowledgement from either the phone or the PC that a data connection has been made (other than that it was charging). I used to be able to connect okay, but now it's not working.
Searching around, this is apparently a common issue with the S4. I've made various attempts at dealing with this, including re-installing the Samsung drivers, with no success. I don't even know if it's specific to CM, or the phone's hardware/firmware.
Has anyone found a solution for this problem?
Hope this works for u. I had an issue connecting my Galaxy S4 as well. Here's the solution I found.
Click the phone icon to access the dial pad and type *#0808#
A menu will appear once the last character is entered.
Choose : AP on upper section and for USB Setting choose MTP.
Reboot the device. Good luck.

I can't get USSD codes to work. I get an error "Connection problem or invalid MMI code". Adding a comma at the end doesn't fix it. As soon as I can get past this problem, I'll give that solution a try. Thanks!

My computer has USB 3.0 equipped with fast charge, ASUS. The app updated and screwed my usb connections to any chargeable device. I wound up having to remove the app and then reinstall the drivers. Don't know if that might be an issue with your computer but it's with a check.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
I discovered that those USSD codes are Samsung specific, which means that they only work on the stock ROM. In CM, they are invalid.
Any other ideas?
