Today it appears a huge update is rolling out bringing all sorts of improvements, changes and tweaks.
Following the update, users will enjoy the possibility to shrink the keyboard and dial-pad for one hand use, a dedicated torch widget for the homescreen, as well as a virtual keyboard spread on five rows now.
Samsung has also added some new brightness setting so you don’t have to adjust the brightness on the whole device and you can now select different brightness settings for certain apps like the browser and other apps.
The update will also offer users the possibility to unlock the device through moving their thumb only a bit, while benefitting from more information being displayed on the unlocking screen.
The update is being pushed out over the air and should arrive on unlocked devices first (in Europe/Asia)

Dont know much about the update, only what i have read. Sounds interesting thou. Hope its not a softening for an ICS delay.

The update should be available now for unlocked Notes and can be downloaded over-the-air. Those who have network-branded devices may have to wait until your service provider gets round to releasing the patch.
This is for csc DBT (Germany) over the air. It is LA4 and has been out for over a week as reported by zkyevolved and dr ketan.
Dr. ketan has a great thread under the development section which lists all the updated firmwares.

that update was released 27.12.2011.. - you guys are one month to late..

Got enough posts and threads on this SO I am closing this one as it looks like this is old news now
THREAD CLOSED
Asus' Italian branch office posted two days ago on their facebook stream that the update for WW SKUs is held up pending approval by Google.
Take that with a grain of salt about the size of the Empire State Building, however, since at first they blamed excessive load on their servers, then they shifted the blame on Google
That and the fact that it doesn't seem to fix anything, maybe they have pulled it.

I think SEEM in the operative word, as it clearly fixes lots of things, but perhaps not what you want it to fix...

I think I read you can't do the OTA if you have CWM installed, and you have to install the stock recovery.
Did you try this?

Just got a update. It has added brightness setting in notification bar. Can't yet see any other changes. But if anyone has a list of updated features or improvements please post.
Is this not yet another new update posted weeks ago and repeatedly reposted.

I got it yesterday to. I noticed the cell standby reporting in the battery statistics was fixed. The are quick ringer settings in the power menu now, or at least I never noticed them before. Also, was there always a swipe option in the keyboard options? There is now.

Yep, that's been there for a while. In "Samsung keyboard settings", switch on "Predictive text" and then "Keyboard swipe".
The one that got me was when I turned OFF that predictive text (because it was screwing up me trying to log into CoPilotLive) and the following morning the phone had switched itself to Handwriting mode.

The firmware with brightness in quick panel is like a month old now
It is funny that none of these "I got new update" threads list the new build number

Sorry for the repost then. Didn't realise it has been discussed. Don't get on here much.
Same here, don't get on here often. My thought is instead of complaining about a post in a "general" forum, how about sharing the link to the previous thread first? This helps most of us that don't have time to read this forum everyday.

I think what everyone have to realize and remember is the stuff that they are doing, there will be thousands before him/her. So don't get hyped for everything. It is also always someone will post before you do. I will search before I post something all the time.
any idea about what firmware is the best? I need an unbranded one so I can receive all the updates as they come out xD

This is surely the real deal now. Also out for Southeast Asia and India. Please post a screenshot of About screen on settings and the version by dialing *#1234#, I'll tweet it to SamMobile so they can pull the full firmware packages.
nice one, downloading now
Ouch - 480MB download!Glad I am in the office early while network is quiet.
Is it 4.1.1 or 4.1.2?

Thank you for actually writing the country name. Otherwise, there's too many duplicate "JB is out now!!!" threads and I get really sad when I find out it's not here for the U.S. yet....
Identical to the dbt build from what I can see, pity was hoping they'd pull in the 412 patches from the 8000.

Plug into Kies, It recognises the Update straight away and downloads!
Good it's finally out, though a shame we don't have 4.1.2 yet.
I guess there's no reason really to switch back from my german variant of the same build just yet.
I'm liking 4.1.1 JB in general though do not like the changes to s-note in terms of no auto-hide toolbar, and keep accidentally finger zooming when using the stylus. Think I may just move to lecture notes. I do like the auto sync with samsung account for s-note though.
yes its out but the sad part is its 4.1.1 also since the UK and Nordic version are mostly same this should be the same update most of europe would get
Why do people think that the UK version would be any different from anything else???
Hi All...I don't want to be the bearer of bad news but...
According to a Sony Representative, he said that our phone [ Xperia SP ] won't be receiving the much awaited "KitKat" Update
you can check it out for yourself right here

Note: That translates to "I got confirmation from Sony that the Xperia SP won't be receiving the Kitkat update"
This is one of the reasons why I am getting the Z1c I mean Sony always forgets the Non-Flagship phones
I mean look the Galaxy Nexus has a KitKat Update!!! and ours doesn't?
already posted
Already posted and you have to believe that we can't trust these man. I remember one of them said that we will have Xperia Windows Phone almost year ago and till now, SONY still don't use Windows Phone OS.

so what the fu..ss?
Direct quote from the article listed in OP
"Once such thread from 18 February 2014 was asking about the availability of the Android 4.4 KitKat"
That was weeks ago. It's still listed under investigation, so honestly, I wouldn't put too much weight on this post. That was almost 2 months ago and no official word. Yes, that person later said that he/she got "confirmation", but from who? If it were true, the websites would be updated.
We'd all be best to stop speculation and rumors to wait until Sony's press officially says something through their proper channels, not an AMA on some random site.
Yeah it was written on april 1st lol

1329MB lets go!
Downloading now in Nashville TN.
So far so good.
Been messing around for about 30 minutes and already can see improvements in keyboard response and performance boost. New keyboard is sweet.
Got it in Maryland... 1329.19MB downloading now
downloading now... New Orleans
Looks like Samsung has disabled the option in Oreo to customize SMS notifications for individual contacts. I'm not too happy with this choice on their part.
Tapatalked from my Sprint GN8
Some nice improvements, but most of them are Samsung's not Google's. My favorite Oreo improvement is the shortcut so that I can go directly to "my apps" in the Play Store.
Other than that, I haven't noticed many differences. Overall, I'd say Nougat should have been 6.2, and Oreo is more like Android version 6.4 rather than 8. If there are significant changes under the hood, maybe that justifies the major number increase. But as for what's exposed to the user, the changes have been very incremental.
Like it on my Note 8, have had 8.1 on my Pixel for some time. Seems snappier than I anticipated with "just installed". BTW, I'm in Northern Virginia and got it this am by checking for updates.
Downloaded and installed in Charlotte, NC. I thought Oreo had a setting to turn on the screen when a notification arrived. Don't see it however. Really bummed that some apps I use that draw over the lockscreen no longer work but I knew that going in.
Got it in Pennsylvania, now my hotspot hack doesn't work

Downloading now in SW Virginia. I can't wait to see if all the hype, was worth the wait. I hope that native message app will allow .gif attachments. I hate having to use third party apps, saving, then adding; just to send one.
