Galaxy Note Screen Test (version 2) - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Use this picture as a home screen wallpaper, lock screen wallpaper and look at it in the gallery. It looks different in each of those 3 places on my device.
Do not forget to touch the screen without unlocking in lock screen.
What is the lowest number you can see? 4? 1?
Do you see only black and white or also other colors on this picture?
This image is a 800 x 1280, bit depth 32, PNG.
So no scaling, no more excuses for not showing it correctly.

So the lowest you can see is 1? Where? In the Gallery?

Nice pic...
I can only see down to 4 (cannot see 3,2,1) in gallery. On home and lock screen I can see down to 1.My ROM is LA4.
Why is this??
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium

In gallery 0 and 1 is same not visible but when i set it as wallpaper/lockscreen 0 is black 1 is visible

So in how is this a screen test ?
The screen is still the same ...
You could ultimately call it a display driver test,
that shows that samsung screwed up the driver implementation

What should it ideally look like?
I can barely see 1 and 2 as too dark but I can make it out.I can start to see 3 clearly and then it gradually gets lighter to 21.
What seems not right is the big jump in brightness going from 10 to 11.

Guys guys guys, enough with the screen issue threads! seriously, its like you are forcefully looking for issues! There are 4 notes in my house, 3 black and 1 white, 2 bought locally and 2 ordered from handtec.com, and none of them have any issues! If u find the screen so disturbing why did u buy it?
oh, ok, so u found the so called issues after purchasing the device.
Here is an advice, SELL it!

I dont think this is a screen issue thread, but a similar thread already exists which is here
Sure you dont have issues, so why care about these threads LOL!
@legion1911
In the stock gallery: I can see upto 3 and 2 is a sharp cut off, Try to hold the home button to bring out the task switcher you would see the cut off start to creep down to #8.
On the lock screen it looks horrible lol! the transition to 0 is smoother but I see random black lines when I touch the screen.

Not really sure if this test means anything. On my notebook I can't see 0 to 3 at all.I can only see from 4 onwards. What does that say about my notebook?

This test is some what related to the black clipping, this is the reason why we get a sudden color clip to black.

same here!!
another interesting thing: when you enter the pic in gallery you can sometimes (!) see for a very short time down to 1, then after i guess 1/10s it goes up to 4. this happens not every time opening the picture, it seems it is (cpu) load dependent. try it!
this perhaps suggests that it's an energy saving mechanism or any other kind of "optimization" which is the main cause of the cut-off!
although: the screen quality differs in big amounts between different units, as i mentioned in some posts before!

Guys guys guys, enough with the "moaning about what other people are interested in talking about" comments! Seriously, it's like it bothers you that people are interested in discussing things on a forum!
There's a difference between finding things "disturbing" and "interesting". If you don't find it interesting, kindly ignore the thread. Personally, I don't have any issues with my screen, yet I still find some of the issues people have been having interesting.

The same here. Except in the "Movie" screen mode, when the gallery image is displayed down to 3.
Perhaps somebody here is capable of cooking up additional screen modes with different settings...

Interesting test.
Gallery: can see down to 4.
Wallpaper: can see down to 1 (with 24-bit rendering)
Wallpaper: can see down to 3 (with 16-bit rendering)
Lock screen: can see down to 1
Web browser: can see down to 1
Another interesting thing this helped show me was when resizing in the browser (stock or Opera), it was using static dithering... which is just bizarre
Also, seeing down to 1 is a bit too far. I'm on a calibrated Hazro S-IPS monitor at the moment which can clearly distinguish down to #3. Shows that these Super AMOLEDs are too bright...

Gallery. Sometimes on 2 sometimes on 4. On homescreen 1. On lock screen i can see f...in lines!

But this is just Samsungs screen calibration.
Deeper blacks in the gallery, it's not a bug it's a feature.
Like Sony's Bravia engine for example.
IMHO Samsung did a bad job.

faint lines on white screen w/ text in portrait anyone else PLEASE check

Just wondering if anyone else is seeing this same problem. When on a white screen like a Google search or aldiko, where the text is displayed portrait mode to the left and right of where text is displayed there are like faint bleed lines where the text is displayed. I tried with brightness all the way up and for the most part they go away but around 50% brightness if you look closely I can see it. Do any of you see the same thing. Just wondering if the amoled screens are like that the Samsung behold II is like that. But godly enoguh in landscape I don't see it. Just portrait. Just hoping nothing is wrong with my cool new phone.
Here are 2 pix of what I see
http://tauruspc.net/pix/1.jpg
http://tauruspc.net/pix/2.jpg
And a better one. Just look to the left and right
http://tauruspc.net/pix/3.jpg
I *JUST* answered your question on google support lol
I have the same thing but mine is definatly not that easy to see.
I just checked and i cant see what youre talkin about so i guess my answer is no
Talk about ironic timing. Weird will look then. And the weird thing is on xda page I don't see in Google support I do. LOL.
Also, I am using Dolphin Browser not default so that may be in play I'm not sure, try downloading it and see if you have the same problem maybe.
Yeh I will do that mainly seems with just black on white portrait mode like Google support. Not xda though.
Wonder if it has to do with power consumption. It takes more power to display white pixels. With the black on the same line maybe those lines with text are consuming less power on the line making the rest of the LEDs on that line of the matrix receive more power, making them brighter?
I tried for about 10 minutes to make that as unconfusing as possible lol
Makes sense. Weird only on portrait not landscape. but just spoke with HTC and they say that haven't heard of any problems like that and can send this in get a problems like that and can send this in get a temp one while they fix it and then switch around again
haven't seen much improvement setting manual brightness either.
I get the same thing, I think it is simply a scaling artifact. When you double tap to zoom the lines are no longer visible.
You can see this effect in the boot loader, but only adjacent (the right of) to where there is text at the left. if you look down where there is no text, and just white space, the ghosting lines across the white are not present.
either way, doesn't really bother me, you really have to look for them to see them.
Yeh double checking I see it there too. So yeh just not me then. Probably just amoled tech. the kind of blinky static lines is what bugs me. Don't happen that often and still kind of have to look to see those but since I have been using heavily since I got it about every 4- 5 hours I see where it gets like static lines horizontally about one pixel think blinky faintly in random spots all over the screen but kindof like static or noise from chip shielding or bad power frequency.

OS samsung is not well made. Or is it the screen...

Hey didn't really read anything abouth this, but the os part of the phone from samsung is really getting to annoy me. It's pretty ugly and doesn't look good...
I am wondering if I am the only one with this. Is it the screen or is it just not well made? Because it also looks like some banding.
I will give some examples but you can see it everywhere...
Like the battery icon when your phone is off and you are charging, wtf is that? It's banded like wth...
Also these two next examples are bad. Can you check if yours is the same?
It seems with a screenshot it's pretty normal on my laptop screen. On my phone it's not like that. How are these examples with your phones??
In this first pick, look at the grey from every different alarm. On my phone it is very banded!! Not smooth at all like this picture, some pink lines in between and stuff...
Here you should lok at the grey of the keyboard. And the green telephone button. Doesn't look smooth in my phone.
I also have a question abouth, some burn in? When i pull down the pull down menu/notification bar, and I watch the bar where your thumb is up, it chancges slightly in color i noticed. When i look closer, i could see that what is behind the bar is visible for abouth 10-15 sec and than it fades. So i could read the word contacts pretty good, when i pulled it all the way down, so it's kind of a burn in for sometime? Is this normal and can ohter people check this on their phone? Thanks
Yes I agree it's pretty ugly, use go launcher, go contacts and go sms pro, much better looking...

Yeah ok, the look is something else, everybody has it own taste.
But i was talking abouth the banding on the grey of the numeric keyboard, and the alarm for example...
At these screenshot they look pretty normal, but on my phone they don't look like that...
So is it the screen that make them look like that???
Do these things look the same on your phone screen as on your pc screen? Or do you also have banding on these things?
PC screen is not the phone screen stupid to compare them .
For what is worth I see no banding on Dialpad on phone likewise ringer volume .
jje
There is a topic about the banding, I think it's a software issue it probably doesnt use 24bit color depth, just use go contacts/dialer

Yeah i know it's stupid. But you should think it is optimised for the phone.
On the dialpad I see banding on every number's grey "button".
And it is not the ringer volume, that was an accident when i made the print screen, I accidently pushed the ringel volume at the same time.
It's the grey from every alarm, very banding on my phone...
So if you don't have it, my screen is defect?

Factory reset first to clear any problems .

I am sure the screen response will loosen up over time. I noticed too initially but it's all okay now.
I remember first two weeks of my tv was almost painful to watch while the pixels caught up with the action. Maybe oled isn't much different to lcd in that respect

Screen colour problem, please help

I was looking at Google Map when I noticed the colours changing. It was as if the contrast was suddenly being reduced making the colours look washed out. When I went to my Home screen my windmill live wallpaper is also looking washed out because the grass no longer looks very green. Has anyone else experienced this problem?
I attach some screen captured to show what it looks like.

Go to settings>display>screen mode you have changed the color management. And see if you have enabled auto adjust screen power. Maybe on of those are responsible.

Do you use Custom Power saving?
Could be your battery running out, so its reducing your display to save power.

I'm not using power management and I have the phone on charge.
I've discovered why there's a difference in my Google Maps screens. It seems that sometimes the map is overlaid with a white circle which makes it look washed out. I attach a screen shot so you can see what it looks like. I think the circle is highlighting an area around my satnv location.
But I'm still not happy with my windmill which still looks washed out.
The colours on my windmill home screen have mysteriously returned to normal

wow man there is a huge difference.... no way my gnote is not doing this for sure... try to upgrade to 2.3.6 and see if that fixes it
you're sure it's not a 'feature' of the windmill LIVE wallpaper?
On the second image you have good weather, the sun is shining. On the first image however, it seems as if you have bad weather, no sun, only clouds, thus the gray layer.
So maybe it's nothing the Note is responsible for, but the weather dependend Live Wallpaper.
I know is not the same problem but maybe related,my device have some brightness change in the display, many times i'm reading and see the screen do some dimming the screen lower down the brightness and go back after like 30 seconds to the normal bright,I have enable the Auto screen power but i try desable and the result are the same.

Blurry effect when scrolling on dark screens

Hello guys,
I was hoping to know if you also have this effect on your oneplus 5's.
The best way to describe is when you are on dark screens like twitter's night mode and you have some images with dark margins.
When you scroll up or down, does it appear a trail that disappears after some miliseconds? Like the screen refreshing itself making that trail disappear.
If you wanna try do this: twitter, night mode, follow for instance Nvidia (his logo is black and dark). Then go to home screen of twitter and try to find a nvidia's twitt. When you find it, look to his logo and go up and down. Do you notice something on the image itself? Like a trail of black pixels or blur effect that disappear after a while?
Hope that you can understand me.
Edit: don't know if I can post links here, if not please tell me that I remove it. This link is from Reddit where it appears an image where you can try this effect:
https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyS6/comments/34t923/is_your_screen_defective_test_for_yourself_by/
Edit 2: it appears that the effect is more visible on low screen brightness
Best regards.

Yes, I agree. As this happened on my note 4 as well as my axon 7, oneplus 3 and oneplus 5
Yep, I've experienced that once. Dark purple logo on black screen
It happens on Amoled screens when the backlight is low. I have seen the same thing on all my Samsung phones as well.
I also confirm, low brithness OLED screen (samsung s3, s4, s5, s7, op3, op5)
oled are good for low battery consumption and high contrast ratio (blacks).
Otherwise, lcd pannels will be faster and more accurate with colors.

Video , Photos and media quality looks washed out.

I came from an S7 EDGE and I just got my OP5 and there's something I hate about my new phone. Every photos videos on YouTube, Reddit , internet in general looks washed out. The colors are good but when you pay attention, you can see the same artefacts you see on a highly compressed video/photo. In other words, the screen looks like it's not even a 8 bit color panel. Do you guys know a solution about this? I never saw this problem on any phone ( I'm a cellphone seller in Canada ), not even on my S7 EDGE, Alcatel IDOL 3, Nexus 5
Maybe it's because it's pentile or something
You might want to change the screen calibration method under settings / display and see if that helps at all.
Unfortunately the problem is still existent. Look at the uploaded screenshot with your phone The colors on the dialer supposed to be gradient but it's not. That my problem .

The dialer looks lighter at the top and darker at the bottom--are you saying there isn't enough transition between the two or that the colors in the screenshot are inaccurate? You might want to do a search for gradient android dialers (which should have screenshots) to verify the problem is with the phone rather than with the specific app you are using. All of the gradient screenshots I pulled up looked fine on my phone but the color changes were a lot more subtle than the one you provided. It's possible you have a bad display or that it's calibrated incorrectly for some reason. I've never noticed any problems with the colors on my OP5 and never read a complaint similar to yours.
You might want to make sure Night Mode or Reading Mode aren't on in settings because both would affect the colors.
Also make sure ambient display is off to verify that isn't doing anything screwy.
Have you rooted your phone or installed a custom kernel or anything like that? Do the colors look exactly the same when you boot into safe mode?
I see the banding in the dialer (the background where the dialpad is). Given that it's a screenshot though, that part is likely to be how OnePlus designed the dialer app (screen issues wouldn't show up in a screenshot).
