ICS Evervolv p6 - Droid Incredible General

Tweeted here and MD5 here. From a full wipe, I had a really smooth install.
Youtube is working great on wifi and works on 3g as long as I check "high quality on mobile" in the settings, otherwise I was getting the choppy video issues.
No changes to the cam and Flash still does not work as far as I can tell, ie. opening the flash app results in a blank page, and there is a blank space where the movie should be on Adobe's version checker page. No missing plugin icon, but its not functioning.
Still sound but no video on Netflix.

I just installed preview 5 two days ago and it's been running very smoothly thus far, only one reboot. Any significant changes you've noticed in p6 that would be worth wiping p5 for?

Well, you can modify what apps are shown on the lockscreen. I wish there was a changelog so you could see what was added.

Other than the baked in Exchange apk fix and the additional lock screen customization, I've not seen a great deal of difference yet. Hard to tell since they don't have changelogs for the previews. If you're happy with 5 I'd probably stick with 5 for now.
As a side note, I've had a couple of random reboots today and I had some weird issues with the launcher right after I installed Swiftkey X.
Also, really have to recommend Nova launcher. Flashed that over p6 a few hours ago and I'm loving this thing.

Yeah, loving Nova Launcher on my ICS Gnex. The ability to restore homescreens is really nice.

I guess this is a little off topic but: Anyone know why it's so difficult to get the camcorder working? I'm a complete noob when it comes to Linux but is there that much difference between GB and ICS?

I'm no expert either, however I know the issue with getting the camera to work initially had to due with getting the drivers working in ICS (and there being no source for the drivers). I don't know how they got working camera drivers to begin with, but I'd only assume that the camcorder functionality needs a separate driver, or the current driver does not have camcorder support.

Whatever the source of the difficulty, a dev tweet has indicated a working camcorder in the next preview build. Glad to see progress being made, ICS has made me feel like I don't really need to spend money on an upgrade yet.

Indeed. P7 is up now and it has early camcorder support. I'm sure it will improve as time goes on, but it's a start for those who need it!

Many apps haven't received ICS compatibility updates yet since there is only one phone that officially has it. It will probably be hit and miss for a while.
That said, Netflix and Flash are both ICS compatible, but don't work properly on any of the dinc roms I've tried.

Has anyone tried getting the numpad to display when using the phone? I dialed 8228 to update roaming capabilities, when the option said press 2 I could not get the numpad up to press it.

Try downloading Ex Dialer from the market and set it as default.
This is my go-to app for AOSP and faulty dialing ROMs, see if it works for you.

First Impressions: [ROM][2.3.2] I9000XWJV1 (GINGERBREAD) for Galaxy S

The other thread has made me increasingly mental trying to find some decent information on what is working and what isn't working for SGS users upgrading to 2.3.2. I upgraded on Sunday evening without any issues and have been using it for the past 48hrs and have come across the following:
bad:
- no sip configuration options
- when integrated with MS exchange server, the unread count for emails never changes even after you read the mail
- default internet browser is horrifically slow, even with no other apps running in the background
- no samsung apps available (probably because this isn't an official samsung release)
good:
- android market works fine for me in Switzerland
- GPS works well with all the different apps i have
- wifi is interesting. it works, but i don't get full signal strength notification even when next to the access point
- FM radio, the most used app i have continues to work nicely
Overall I have been pleasantly surprised with this version. It's nice, although it's not an official release and is still leagues better than 2.1.x and 2.2. Would get a good argument from me about how it compares with 2.2.1..
gingerbread
its only a beta the official version will be better!

What makes the wifi interesting? Should it really be in 'Good' seeing as though you dont get full signal strength?
Thanks

Well, for me, I am not downloading torrents on my phone. When I want to download, via wifi, apps from the market or something with dropbox, the wifi isn't not letting me down. I think there's a disconnect between what the graphic is reporting and the actual level.
It's good because it still works and is functional and allows me to keep using this on a daily basis despite its status.

Thats a good idea.. Not only might it help Samsung, but it will discourage people from running it (and later whinging).
i got it running for a few hours and i generally enjoyed it, but the keyboard has no bulgarian (well it have in the options but it does not work) and if you run out of ram you are screwed (the phone hangs or gets tooo slow ).
as said samsung apps doesn`t work and the gallery freezes very often...
i hate that samsung removed the fancy animations and the black menu bar....
There's like no gingerbread keyboard and launcher

1-3D performance
It's not as good as it was on 2.2.1. If you test some 3D games like NFS Shift, you culd see that it doesnt run so well as it did on 2.2.1
Some people even reports that they can’t even run lot of 3D games.
2-GPS
There are reports of a good gps performance, but I have read somewhere that it's contanstly throwing some kind of errors or bugs, I don't know how to check that. I guess they know it thanks to logcat or something like that.
According to what I could read on another forum they changed lot of gps files nad not is very similar to the ones of Nexus S, that's a good thing...
3-Keyboard
It’s also a shame that they didn’t include gingerboard keyboard…
PS: Some people might think that this thread isn’t useful, but as we are being kind of betatesters for Samsung it would be nice if we use this post only to report the most common bugs founds, so maybe Samsung could have a look at it and solve it faster.

Same here, it was so slow till i had to restart my i9000.
I've been using it for the last two days now (one of them with Supercurio's Voodoo Hack) and I've been happy with it in some parts, but quite unhappy in others.
Lag:
First of all, it seems the "Lag" that was fixed in 2.2.1 is back. Especially with memory-Hungry applications like the Browser, the phone tends to just freeze up for a few minutes without really doing much. I even had to pull the battery one time. This does happen less with the voodoo-fix, but it's still noticeable. Flash also does barely work.
Gingerbread features:
The new Gyroscope-Driver seems to work and it works really well. Skymap and Starchart both looked a LOT better when using them, no fidgeting around all the time anymore.
The new Gingerbread animations are NOT present in this rom. It seems like Samsung thinks they don't fit into TouchWiz, which is a shame. So no glowing edges when overscrolling and no screen-off or screen-on animation.
3D Performance pretty much seems to be the same as on 2.2.1 Games load a little slower, but I think that's mostly because we're using an un-optimized kernel.
The Bluetooth-Driver unfortunately still is the same as in Previous versions. So Neither Wiiremote nor PS3 will pair with the SGS, unlike on Cyanogenmod.
Samsung-Stuff:
As was stated before, Swype does not work. However, I am in the Swype beta and was able to install the Beta of Swype into this rom after deleting the normal swype with root explorer. It works fine, even Voice input does work.
All in all, it is clear that this is beta-firmware and it doesn't really offer much in terms of improvement over 2.2.1, at least not yet. Cyanogenmod 7, even tho it supports less hardware and is more unstable, runs a LOT faster and smoother than this, is more customizable and uses more of the new Gingerbread features.
For now, I'll be going back to 2.2.1, it's more useful as a daily driver, but this at least looks promising so far.
Reverting back to 2.2.1. 2.3.2 is way too slow.
Well considering this is a beta it seems alot of the features that are suppose to be in the final build are here left out. That will give the reason for quite some things missing ( some animations, effects, lock screens, keyboards....) Plus also cause of the beta build maybe even alpha who knows, the performance for me is really bad, it feels twice as laggy compared to the 2.2.1 releases. All in all this build is an striped down, not optimized build for the samsung devs i guess. We will have to wait for a better build leak. Cheers !

It's a good guess that Samsung won't update our phones to ICS, so sooner or later if you want to stay up to date you will have to use CM.

I can do this. There is no reason for don't do. (WTF is iOS?) Because I'm not a fan boy. But take a look. On CM thread the fanboys avoiding real bugs. Accelerometer sensor is not only one. So, if it's a filesystem using journaling, it has a way of reducing a chance of data corruption like the alternatives. Not sure about other differences between FS's but i've read this is what people deem as acceptable for data loss prevention.
Also, i've yet to experience data loss.

> I'm not even sure if any rom actually used hardware acceleration for browsing. First time i've heard about doing it was ICS. Always been with opera mobile (it's important being the mobile and not mini). No lag whatsoever. Flash does stutter for a micro second while loading but it does play well and lag free after that. But this is flash we're talking about, it's heavy by nature.
-There is no real hapctic feedback.

-Battery life is still not much.
> Depends on how much you use it. Lasts easily a day with a few phone calls, loads of text messages, around 4 hours/day of screen on, always with wireless on. Got home at the end of the day and still had around 40%. More than a day is unrealistic, most likely i'd just end up having enough power for half a day if i don't charge overnight. While we're at it, CM doesn't have that dealbreaking bug that can be found on stock roms that makes your phone start using battery when it gets charged to 100% causing massive battery drops when the charger is unplugged. I actually downgraded to froyo just to prevent that.
-Touchwiz calendar and clock is great. Also I like tw keyboard launcher and great sns feature.
> i'm not sure what to say here. If it's touchwiz laucher you're missing you can just download it from the applications section here in XDA. Calendar and clocks have better alternatives from market anyway and i always replace the stock sms app with handcent or GO SMS pro.

-Touch pointer can't stand fast moves. Open multitouch test and move your finger a bit fast. Pointer will come after your finger. A bit laggy.
> I used a real case instead. Opened a multitouch keyboard (gingerbread), held my left index finger on shift and my right index finger swiping on the rest of the keyboard. Wasn't laggy at all, letter preview shows up instantly as soon as i go from one letter to another.
-Wireless signal is so poor. I can't connect in my room. (I write this from my room now. Stock JVT.)
> That's just your modem though and you can replace it for whatever works best for you. CM's stock (JVK) gives me the same results as any other modem i used. Always found it a very decent range as i can pick networks from neighbors even 2 apartments away.
-Provider can't understand your phone model so you must set your apns yourself.
> Mine did. I was kind of surprised it did actually, since i'm from portugal. Didn't need to set anything up, just worked.
-I can't see some apps on market with market enabler. I can with stock.
> Not sure how to test this. Can you tell of an app you can't see so i can try it out?
-I have to flash every nightly for a reason. And all needs fix some permissions..
> You don't have to flash them every night. It is actually unadvisable to do so since they are experimental and may screw up something with your phone. Just stick with the stable and if you feel you need to update it, read reviews about what your're flashing carefully first.
-People says you don't have to calibrate battery after every nightly. But cwm uncalibrating battery as hell already.
> You may have been reading the wrong stuff. You calibrate your battery after flashing a new rom. That's it. Poor battery performance is expected after that but evens out after a few charges. And again, you don't really need to flash all those nightlies. Just think about CM as any other rom. Others don't have updates every night either, you just flash it and be done with. Just do the same with CM.
But whatever works for you. Like someone said, no one really cares about what you use, if you feel comfortable with your setup, stick with it - it's all about choice.
I just did this because someone said it would take reference from this post for future people searching for reviews and since i get very different results from yours, i felt like reporting mine in your specific bullet points.
I stopped using it for a simple reason, I kept having issues with voice calls where the other party could not hear me. That was a deal breaker, as my phone is first and foremost a work tool and I cannot afford an unreliable phone

> i go to lots of concerts. Always record about half of it on the best resolution the phone has. No issues. Likewise for reproducing them later. Actually, video usually comes out better on dark places than photos.

We have hw acceleration with touchwiz browser. Amazingly smooth flash and scrolling.
Accelerometer is not smooth like stock.
Wireless signal depends on kernel not modem. Drivers are there.
You can't even just open dungeon defenders to play. As a 3D game.
Yesterday I have 7 hours screen on with stock. 3g off I have great uv.
For market look gameloft games. Gt racing for example.
3rd party clock and calendar hooks up my small ram. And so cheap quality on market.
Where can I download TW3 for cm7? I tried one and it lags like mad. Because no hw acceleration.
Hapctic feedback is not full. Compare the solo lite app from market with stock.

You're right about the wireless drivers being on the kernel. But as i said, CM's stock works great for me.
Not sure what you meant with those 7h of screen... I mentioned my usage, not the limit on how much would my battery last if i had the screen on all the time.
You are right about gameloft games. But there are 2 very simple solutions to that: just get it from android market's website or replace your build.prop with the one on this thread:
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/33366-gameloft-games-not-showing-in-market/
I've seen a Touchwiz 4.5 app on the app section. Not sure specifically about TW3. I used 4.5 once on some other rom and liked it very much. But still not good enough for me to change from Go luncher and all those Go widgets though.
About hardware accelerated stuff, glad you found whatever works for you, the whole point of my answer wasn't proving you wrong, just telling people that other people have experienced differently in most of those points you were complaining.

Evervolv official discussion thread!

In this thread we will do the discussion of this ROM so we don't bother the developers anymore!
Sorry for this question, I am in good faith, but I want to understand if Drewis is developing this kernel alone or collaborating with the team CyanogenMod (or other). I guess the first hypotesis, but maybe they are sharing progress. Repeat, I am gratefully, it's only a curiosity

Can anyone post a youtube of the newest version running with HWA to see how it compares with MIUI?
I am curious to see if it's worth installing...

I can tell you that the latest version is running pretty smooth for me, the UI just seems faster and I can run the Chrome Beta which I couldn't even load up using MeDroid. HWA even at this early stage is giving my N1 a whole new life.
Very promising ROM but far too buggy for me to leave MIUI for it. :/

I flashed the P9 release yesterday (my first ICS release)... pretty smooth in general, Quadrant scores are not far behind the scores I had with CM7.1 (998 with evervolv P9 VS 1039 with CM 7.1)...
Got the same issues as stated in the "not working" section, plus the clock crashes (to set alarms) but that could be just a question of wiping cache/dalvik again.
Coming from CM, I miss all the customizations options in this ROM. Dont get me wrong, texasice did a fantastic job with the ROM and kernel development, especially in figuring out the HWA part...
But I will surely try MeDroid Remix (as soon as it's new release with HWA comes out this weekend) to see what it offers... looking at samuaz's thread, it looks a lot more customizable and coming from CM, it might be just what I'm looking for.
I will surely donate to both texasice and samuaz as well for a fantastic job done on their part, otherwise, we'd be probably stuck with Gingerbread forever.
I know plenty of much newer phones than ours that don't have a mod that can run chrome properly.
That said, if people are playing around with older (more stable?) versions and want to give some of the reboot fixes a try, look up market id com.jrummy.sysctl.config to set the memory without the new kernel or messing with scripts.
A lot of the CM stuff you might be used to is available from other programs. I mostly miss the brightness hacking and night mode filters, but I found a separate program that can make my screen dimmer to use as a night mode. The way the notification toolbar works is slightly different too. And Trebuchet is nice, but not that much different that I can tell.
I have an issue with p4 through p9.
I used trackball wake on build p3 it worked like a charm, but now when I press the trackball, pwr or vol buttons, the soft buttons are lighting but the screen remains black, I have loaded p4, p6, p7, and p9. All Roms work fine initially and appear trouble free up until the phone goes to sleep. After the phone goes to sleep the screen won't wake no matter what I do.
I have tried several SD cards, tried to turn off wifi, tried to change swap sizes from none to 256.... Not sure what else could be causing this???
Any ideas anyone?

So I got my phone running on the latest p11 finally. It works great, has been running for days, no reboots, pretty fast and seems stable so far... AND battery life has been awesome!
What I found was the CWM recovery was jacking my sd card when I partitioned it. I tried 4EXT recovery and all has been well after that.
No obvious issues other than camera preview...
Sometimes while on call the mic stops responding.. People calling me are not able to hear me..
I'm running p11 and not facing any other issues except the known one like camera preview etc ...
Anybody else facing similar issue?
*le bump*
Please do not let this topic die.

i think he posted a rebuilt p12 in the thread. it might be on the op page by now.
I just installed p13 today, it seems to work fine. The interface is a bit sluggish in places, for example Google Play is quite slow, and buttons don't always respond immediately. Is that normal for this rom?

Thanks, I tried the 0314-kernel and got slightly better results in the Quadrant benchmark (1004 as opposed to 937). But it didn't make a noticable difference in interface responsiveness.
It's not dreadful, but just not nearly as good as FroYo. But I'm not gonna expect any better since this is just a community work-in-progress rather than an official release.

CM 10 and customizing the phone

Just installed Quarx remarkable cm10 rom and am shocked at how stable and useable it is. However i have a few questions and so if you know the answers help me out please.
is there a better default launcher (basically i had cm7 set up with custom icons on the apps on the home screen and also was able to fit 5 or 6 apps across the width and am wondering is there anyway i can do this now in jelly bean)?
is there anyway i can get the app drawer to scroll down instead of sideways?
how the heck do i get rid of that annoying google search bar at the top of my home screen?
why is there no dsp audio settings for bluetooth? is this a bug or something that hasnt yet been implemeted?
EDIT: Oh yes and what has happened to the ability to long press the buttons like search that will launch a custom action?
and rather than start a new thread... just in case i decide to bail back to cm7 kang will i need to install the froyo kernal first in recovery? for info purposes i am using a red lense defy and the gingerbread kernal i flashed before installing cm10 is the first time i have ever flashed a kernal.

thanks for that will give it a bash
anybody else know the answers to the other stuff.
edit:
ok wow i have just installed apex launcher and i have to say it is gonna take a good evening of sorting out there are that many options. i like it. so cheers buddy.
however i am getting this horrible lag when using the phone. sometimes it is taking upwards of five seconds for the phone to acknowledge a touch. it is extremely frustrating especially coming from c7 kang when everything and i mean everything was virtually instant. not sure if this is sort of normal expected behaviour considering cm10 is only a few weeks old but if it carries on and despite the fact i love it i will be forced to return to cm7.
you can use nova launcher it is very beautiful.
dsp setting can be reached from the music player app or from google play music app
for other tweaks, you should wait for the new nightly ROMs to bring

for Bluetooth settings flash this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1728391 that modification sounds better than the integrated dsp.

I've tried both. The latest quarx rom and now i'm on epys lates rom.
I'm use the holo launcher hd - it's optimized for jb and works perfect.
In both roms is the dsp manager present. For bluetooth settings you have to scroll right.
The ability for the buttons can be found in epys last build. I didn't found them on quarxs 08/04 build.

in your experience would you say epys is more stable than quarx.
i think part of my problem is that i used titanium back up to install a fair few apps with there data and maybe if i hadnt i wouldnt be encountering so many slow downs and lag but i hasten to add that i was already seeing it on the rom before i restored the apps so i dont want to blame it totally.
by the way i have found the bluetooth settings so thanks mate. i simply opened the app and it was there so i aint sure how i missed them first time off!!!
no you are right quarx build doesnt have the buttons set up as yet.
i may do a wipe and start again and may even try epys build but epy seems to be busy with other things and i dont want to be using a rom that is no longer supported. if i do i will give holo launcher a bash although i am mighty impressed with apex. already i have been able to set up the homescreen as before and the app drawer is back to one long vertical scrolling list. so we are getting there.
what i dont seem to notice is any sort of hwa going on in fact my experience is the phone runs a lot choppier and slower than when i was using cm7.
another alternative is to go back to cm7 and use one of the ics themes which in all honesty doesnt seem like a bad option to me. i will decide over the weekend when i have some time to play around. thankfully thanks to the recovery it is pretty painles to switch between builds once you have set them up.

Jelly powered.Defy
ok i can only imagine i have screwed something up using titanium back up because the lag is actually making the phone unuseable. i simply havent had time to fix it but i will have tomrrow and the first thing i am gonna do is a full wipe. i think i am also going to try running both epys and quarx and also use both the froyo and gingerbread kernals and see which combination works best. i am also going to remove titanium back up. if it cant handle restoring user apps and the data between platforms then it is of no use to me because google will reinstall all the apps on its own.
so i must have simply screwed it up because nobody would use the rom if it was as bad as it is on my phone. i also dont like the no wifi tethering deal. that is something that is extremely handy and if it doesnt work then even if i can get cm10 running smooth as silk then i will most likely not use it as a daily. another bug bear is the lack of flash support. i use the iplayer a lot and the fact that one needs flash to use it means jelly bean may be a step too far. i guess i want to get it running properly because it annoys me when things dont work right and by my very nature i am forced to try to fix it (it is almost a genetic defect of mine). however as i say if i cant use wifi tethering and flash then i probably wont run it as the rom i use daily.
does anyone know if ics is the same? is wifi tethering also broke with cm9?

in CM10 u can use some tehter-app from PlayStore, someone in dev thread say it worked. CM9 is the same as CM10 for me with tethering, but I really don't use it more than twice in three month.
titanium backup is bad if u restore more than the apk on CM10 nightlys, it totally ruins the system if u came from other ROM, had the same issue. I use it for apps that not from PlayStore, it's ok for that.
Jelly powered.Defy
right installed the froyo kernal today with the latest 08/08/2012 nightly for the mb525 and i have to say there is a world of differnce. it is now running pretty damn silky and although it is lacking one or two things it is quite amazing for a build only 3-4 weeks in development. tomorrow (was super busy today) i am gonna give the ics builds a crack and also the gingerbread kernal cm10. i will then decide which one to keep.
obviously i didnt use titanium for squat diddly which i think helped.
i did try barnacle wifi tethering before and it didnt work but then again so many of my apps didnt work after the restore that it may have been that. i will give it another bash tomorrow.
really like the defy recovery app. not used this before and it makes managing roms and backups pretty sweet eh. have to say i am impressed with the level of development still going into this phone despite it being quite long in the tooth. i would have changed it months ago but there isnt anything out there built quite like it. if only moto would upgrade it make it slightly thinner, give us a better camera, a dual core snapdragon 1.5 cpu and a 4 inch screen but keep the same thin profile bezel and superb build quality and i would buy it tomorrow! i did for a week trade it for an atrix which at the time was the flagship but i sold it and bought another defy because the build quality was just totally second rate compared to the defy.
come on moto i can live with your locked bootloader and non existent support (assuming the same old same old lot of devs also came along for the ride). just give us a decent updated version sit back and watch the coin roll in.
ok i can confirm that barnacle does work and that is me sold on this rom and will now use it as my daily.
decided against trying ics because it isnt gonna get an official cm release for the defy (i dont think) and even if it does all the work is now taking place on cm10 so it doesnt make sense to drop down a release.
have to say i used the defy rom updater for the first time today. talk about being spoilt. man that app is just so damn good. i was able to back up my phone and update to the latest nightly and i didnt have to do anything in recovery... it even rebooted the phone for me!!! super stuff.

need a bit more info mate. what is the wifi problem? in general i have no wifi issues it connects to my network and reconnects when the phone is turned on and stays connected when i am using it. so i dont.
i have decided to stay with the side swipe for the app drawer instead of going back to one long list. it makes a refreshing change.
i have also been discovering that on many apps there is a side swipe to get quick access to the next bit. the classic mistakes i have made are with the dsp manager and es file explorer. i was touching the tabs at the top instead of just swiping the screen left and right. the more i try this the more i see many apps have implemented the same useability.
another real palm job is the alarm. i have for years been tapping the plus and minus sign to set the right hour and minutes in the alarm. recently i discovered that i could simply swipe it down or up. quite mad really that i have wasted so much time without realising it.
cm10 is now running well with next to no issues. what a difference a wipe and totally clean install make.

N4 - 4.2.2 versus 4.3

What I'd like to see is for you to post your reviews/comments comparing 4.2.2 vs 4.3. Tell us what the differences you've seen, the good the bad and so on. If there's a specific app that works awesome now because of the new graphic update, what apps are having issues, etc.. Have you noticed a difference in the pictures taken with the camera. I'd like to see this in here so those that are updating will be able to see what others in the forum are experiencing since their upgrade.
I find that my phone boot faster compared to before, which is always nice. I've taken a few pictures and I see a modest increase in quality and the new menu is easy to use and make sense, style-wise. I've heard some complains about the Netflix app, going black and such, but I've had no issue with this myself. I did have to do a cold boot this morning for some reason but not sure if this can be attributed to the update or not.
