Xperia Play power switch problem - Xperia Play General

Hi there I have just recieved my Xperia Play from the repair centre and they exchanged it but the the power key is not working. It's stuck and I can't press it it's gone a bit inside
Is there a way I can pull it out a bit?
Thanks

We had trouble with one of ours the same. did you try taking back cover off as sometimes the cover catches the button and sticks it down.

The button design is really bad. Not easy to work at all.

Yes I did take the back cover off it works then but when I put on the back cover it covers it. It's not sticking out anymore
I have another problem as well the L + R shoulder buttons are stiff ! I can't even press them down !
What have they done to my Xperia Play?

Don't the SBE Extranet repair centre know how to handle a phone ?
I've just realised that there is a issue with the screen as well. It has white marks/dots on it and it wasn't like that before giving in the phone for repair.
It's like they don't give a S**T and don't take care of the phone when repairing it.
We all pay good money for a smartphone and we all look after it only to be damaged by those nimwits.
It makes me so angry
They are seriously gonna pay for this and I will make sure they do !

I got a brand new one after some water damage from my insurance and with in a week mine did the same thing. It pisses me off because I can't use my Trident case anymore. This is my third one and I just have to live with it because I don't want to wait again for another replacement. My first one the touch screen went out in two weeks. Thank God for insurance. Love the phone but next time I'm going with Samsung.

Volume keys beneath the cover falling apart

I've been using the HD for two months, and the volume keys beneath the cover appear to have their plastic falling apart, revealing the tiny electronic parts underneath.. anyone else encountered it?

I'm also having the same problem. I been using my HD for around 7 months though. The volume down cover cracked and after awhile, the whole cover fell off. I wonder if this is a defect and will be covered by the warranty.
It's strange, but I find the button feels better without the cover. You get a sort of click when you press on it without the cover.
mine did the same after a week, Still works fine though!
Same here had the HD for 7 months, though I think mines related to using the stylus on the vol down button when entering bootloader mode.
Still works fine though.
Did anyone find out if this is warranty repairable? My volume down button came off after 4 months. I'm just concerned about the resale value!
I pay for Orange Care, so I think I can pay £15 for a replacement, but don't see why I should!
I´ve same issue with volume up button but also still working because there are some parts of it still there.
Don´t know if warranty is covering but I wanna know!

i second that.
my buttons rubber got demolished by using a fingernail for getting into the bootloader ...
My internal down volume button is also gone leaving the round brass contact exposed. Still works but yes horrible that it has happened.
Did any of you guys try warranty repair through HTC? The cover under mine has also cracked, which for me means it doesn't have that clunk positive feel and I'm just wondering what the process will be.
Thanks,
Jon
Same issue..
I never expected such an expensive HTC phone to have such basic build quality issues ..
Have placed a complaint with HTC support, trust they would be able to help.
Thanks...
ditto..
mine has also fallen off on the vol down button, no problem as it still works, but like it mentioned, would be worth checking out if its reparable under the warranty before it expires (do we get 1 year faulty parts?)
Well I phoned HTC today and their initial argument that if the button is broken due to usage then the warranty is not valid - Eh? I can't see how that's any kind of defence. Looks like they're trying to bypass the devices having to be of merchantable quality and/or fit for purpose.
They also had not heard of any other volume buttons breaking - whether that's true or not who knows.
I'm sending the phone in tomorrow, for an assessment so I'll update how it goes.

Any news from HTC? The rubber on my volume up buttons has broken away. This looks like a design fault on behalf of HTC... We should get together to let them know they've got a problem...
My VolUp button also is failing but - the internal(the one under the back cover) is kinda soft and it has its middle pushed in... now my VolUp button is hard to press cuz the outer button (the plastic with back cover) pushed the internal in a bit!!! Since I listen to musid a lot with my Touch HD its a pain to always push the VolUp button!! glad that you have the onscreen buttons!!
oh and about the construction : my HD fell out of my hands today from about a meter high - landed on the floor which was full with little pieces of sand, and slided a bit!! now I have some nice little holes on the front cover on the right top (opposite to the Vol buttons) !! glad that my screen had a screen protector , otherwise my screen would be just f***ed up!! (when I picked up the phone the whole screen was with little pieces of sand - like sandpaper-- I just wiped them of plugged my headphones back in, and everything worked like it did before the fall)
I have the exact same problem. The plastic / rubber on my volume down key has disappeared leaving the microswitch exposed and the volume down not feeling as good. It still works though.
Well my initial call with HTC was very negative - saying that if it's damaged due to use then I'll have to pay. I sent it off to be assessed anyway, good news was that they sent it back repaired by return post. Couldn't have been more pleased.
Well worth sending off.
Jon
Both my Up & Down Volume Plastic is gone the Up Still Works but the Down the Little Brass thingie fell off :-( HTC wants $300 to fix!
what should i do?
Me too......
Just when I was about to sell my HD, (a new LEO is on its way) my down volume key began to fail. Exactly the same peeling off the internal microswitch.
Where did you get yours repaired?
Mine was bought free.(Spain)

If your phones are out of warranty and want to do a self repair, here is the part (used) on Ebay (170408817615) for sale. I have looked high and low for months until I finally found it. The guy says he has 237 available.

IMHO this reference shows an HD part not related to the volume keys.
Not to mention the price......

Touch screen broke

Hi! I Love ( D ) my TD2... to bad my touch screen broke already (2 months after purchase) without dropping it or whatever.. Screen and phone works normal.
Im just curious if there are other people having this problem jet?
Do you guys think im f*ck'd? or does htc replace touchscreens within warranty?
if not; Does anybody know what the costs may be for replacing a touchscreen? And is it possible to replace only the touchscreen or must the whole screen be replaced?
A lot of questions , i know.. hope someone can give me answers.
Thank you!
new screen
see here, a similar discussion: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=537654
if the screen broke and it was not your fault, warranty should cover that ... it seems that buying a new screen and putting it is easy ...
thnx for reply georgeono! guess i'll try warranty first.
same here...touch screen cannot sense any form of touch
Hm.. to bad man. when i put my phone under a bright lamp or in the sun i can see some kind of liquid under the screen(so i know its definitely broke..), same at yours? did you contact warranty jet?
i guess the screen is just not that strong, cause i have treated this phone much much better then my old htc touch and that touchscreen is still working..
my batt went flat...
I go home and charge it..
before full charge, I sms and it is not working anymore..
Soft reset or hard reset no use..
Next day, I see the "liquid" screen under sunlight...
I also take care of it well as this is my first pda and most expensive hp i ever bought...
Going to sent in on this coming thursday...
How about ur warranty, void or consider under warranty??
havent found time jet to send it in but i'll send it tomorrow so i'll let you know. .
I have had the same problem. I sent it back last Friday and have had notification on Monday that it arrived at HTC, but the tracking details they gave me don't seem to do anything. They say it'll be 5 to 10 working days before I get it back.
The engineer on the phone pretty much straight away described the problem as 'LCD Leak' and that was also stated on the postage label they sent through to me.
I found a short term fix for the problem before i sent it off: When you see the touch screen has the patch of liquid inside, use a piece of sellotape or other sticky tape and gently pull the touchscreen outwards away from the phone and it becomes usable again as long as no fluid is touching the screen any longer.
Hope this makes sense.
edit: I got my phone back and the same problem was still occurring - it looked like they had simply take taken the screen off and put it back on again. It has gone back again, but hopefully this time they will actually look at it.
hm i tried your fix but it didnt work for me ..thnx for the tip anyway!
Same like here I think:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=522813
I had to sent it back for a repair. Right now my repaired phone starts to get the problem again

i had the same problem and i can tell you this is caused by too much pressure on the screen. it seems the screen does fall into the phonecase and therefore free itself from the glass. take care with that phone in the pocket!! also the manual says, take out the phone of the pocket when you sit down!! i was shocked when i read that... i mean.. wtf.. what is the idea of a mobile phone which you cant have in your pocket???
haha , and they used to call it a pocket pc! too bad i havent read the manual BEFORE i bought this fragile peace of sh..

Your just a very unlucky man...
I really love my TD2 and it's working as it should be.
I do not use a case and have it just "naked" in my pocket (without keys and other stuff in my pocket) and its no problem, no scratch...
And i don't call it fragile, ok... it can break easier than a rock in your pockey but still..... I don't know how your TD2 is but mine cant bend a 1/2 mm, it's pretty though.
Phone fixed.... For now
I have received my phone back after a second trip back to HTC and it appears that they have replaced the whole frontage of the phone as a tiny scuff on the metal bit and a miniscule scratch on the screen have gone. The internals of the phone are the same as it has the same serial number and IMEI number.
Its all working so far, I've had no evidence of the fluid in the screen as yet and hope not to again!
Send it back and it will be mended eventually!
Had a similar problem, after 20 days the display broke (not on the surface but under it) because of...who knows, maybe direct sunlight since it was on the seat of my car.
Now, after reading the post, I see it's not a singular problem but also other lucky customers are dealing with it.
The real problem is HTC service. I contacted HTC Italy and they told me to take the PDA to a collection point along with a letter describing what happened since I asked for the warranty cover. After 20 days they told me I have to pay 126€ to repair my D2 because the service decided that it was due to my manomission (aka : you have lied to us). After some enraged mails I sent to them, they replied me I should contact HTC in UK to have the warranty. I decided to pay to have my phone back quickly but until yesterday no answer.
Today I sent another email and HTC replied telling me that the service center is closed for holidays until 24th...
I let you imagine how disappointed I am with HTC and they call it HTC Service Excellence.
Ok, it was my fault...I knew I had to buy the spare part on my own and change the LCD but I trusted the HTC name...big big big mistake!
Just consider those experiences in case you think to send your phone back to HTC service...I will never do this again!
Thank you guys, now I know for sure it was not my fault.
I have my TD2 now 3 month and I recognize the problem others mention. Although this problem is a fault, the system is not broken.
When the phone blocks, look for the "liquid" below the screen. It can be very small to fingertip size. The screen is not broken but the touch screen sticks to the display screen. It occurs by applying some force while using the touch screen. Of course this should not happen but it locks the phone or results in unpredictable touch inputs. IT IS NOT BROKEN.
It can be easily solved. Just wipe, with some pressure, with your thumb over the touch screen starting from well below till above the affected area. The touch screen detaches from the display screen and everything works again.
The solution would be a mod by HTC to prevent the two screen from sticking together.
I hope this helps by preventing people to send their phone back and foreward unnescessary.
Just send in my TD2 today for the same reason. Hope they wont simply "lift the surface up" and send it back to me.
repaired!
i had to wait a long time, but i got a message today that the phone is repaired within the warranty by an external repair service. Hopefully the problem is solved now, but im very glad to hear its not gonna cost me 200 euro's or so!
for the dutch : ondanks alle slechte verhalen over dynafix (volgens mij de gebruikelijke repair service voor een htc telefoon in nederland) is het toestel gewoon gerepareerd zonder onzin over drukschade etc. !
update
got my phone back yesterday , in fact they replaced my old phone with a brand new one! Totally free of costs. So i'm a total htc fan again!

Are you sure it's new? I thought they replaced mine as well (after a LOT of phone calls and hassle), but the serial number is still the same.
The counters had been reset, so at first I thought it was a brand new one...

Buddy has a big flaw.

Ok so my friend has an HD2. He was at work and some prick dumped a bucket of water on him. So I got looking at his phone and it seems that the only thing wrong is that the screen will not come on.
I can get the bottom lights to come on and the volume is somewhat working. But the screen will not light up at all. My question is... is there a way to buy a replaceable screen? He bought it off eBay so I'm guessing that the insurance was unavailable for him. Or would T-Mobile US look at his phone and troubleshoot it?
Thanks in advance for any information.

best thing he could of done is to immediately remove the battery and let the phone dry out for a few days. I would do that now anyways. Then put the battery back in, let it charge, then try to turn it on. If its really just the screen, yes they are replaceable, but make sure he gets the lcd/digitizer combo, those things are almost impossible to replace separately.

how do you know the screen is the problem? could be one of the many chips on the main circuit board could be fried. In my humble opinion, take the battery out and let it sit for about a week in a nice dry area. try it after a week or so and if it still don't work, sell it for parts on ebay.
I think you'd be wasting your money, especially if you have never tried taking one apart before. I've fixed a few phones before but the thought of opening up my HD2 makes me cringe!
hey thanks for the response we will give that a go. and hopefully that works but ill start looking up prices on the combo now. thanks again
The best thing yoiu can do for a wet phone, like previously stated is take the battery out, and stick it in a tub of rice for atleast a few days. this will draw moisture out of the phone.
I must have been lucky. I dropped mine in the toilete 1 drunken night. it came out still on and working, then the volume started adjusting itself and the screen was going funny. 24 hoiurs in rice and it was fine except for a dodgy volume button which sorted itself within another day.
If its still not working correctly, you mayb have to send it into htc for repair and get the idiot who poured a bucket of water to pay for the repair.

Tired of my samsung galaxy s2 and its stupid home button

I actually think i'm going to either:
-bring my samsung back for fixing
-sell my samsung and buy a more reliable phone
-cry in a corner.
I've had the home button problems since a few months or so...
Sometimes it won't react at all when i press it, sometimes it brings up the voice control, sometimes it'll lag for 2 seconds...
I tried a factory reset, tried updating, tried uninstalling voice apps and nothing works...
If anyone has any tips i don't know of please let me know before i send it for replacement because this is unacceptable on a €600 phone.
Any help is appreciated
You may have dusts stuck under the button. Try this trick I used to loosen my iPhone's home button:
1) turn the phone upside down
2) tap the button with your finger nail a few times firmly (but not very hard as it can damage the circuitry underneath)
3) wipe the edges of the button with a moist tissue or cloth
4) wipe the button dry with a dry tissue or cloth
are you serious...?

Yep, the home button really is ****ing crap. Mine doesn't work at all since month. I found a work around (using a volume button as home button, but its a shame for samsung)
I tried to send in it but they told me that it's a moisture damage (a lie if you would ask me) and they aren't able to repair it even if i'd pay for it.
So my next phone will have as few moving parts as possible.

yeah, a blow always help. at least for moral.
but depends on who is giving to who the blow
now seriously, mine got including in my daughter's hands while she was eating so a lot of moisture god onto the button and it's still working.
and by the way, they are forced by the law to fix it, at least for money, because the law, at least in UE is forcing them to offer post warranty support.
Basically they will change the mother board.
I had the same issue with stock rom reflashed with oxygen and miui and not experienced it since, coincidence maybe?

Totally.
My iphone's home button stopped responding after about 6 months and I was about to return it for replacement. The button's responsiveness is still like new to this day after "cleaning" - the unit is 15 months old and counting.
sometimes it'll lag for 2 seconds...
This case is normal because Samsung is code home btn to wait for double click (so it can bring up a voice command) so it have a delay time to wait for it.
Btw you can disable it by using jkay to disable home btn double click.
Had the same issue as OP.
I went to the customer care center here and complained (which was a pain in the azz), then finally stood there until they reacted. Overall, they ordered a new screen and took care of it.
It took about 5 days for it to be replaced. I had the device until then of course.
Try button saviour from the market.

If you bought the phone in the UK you are protected by the Sale of Goods Act 1979 which you should mention to the retailer. If this isn't the case I'm sure there are repair shops that could fit a new button relatively cheaply, that is if the blow job trick doesn't work

[Q] New iconia or money back cause of volume button?

Hi - look at the picture what i've attached.
The silver coating just went out from the volume button.
Should i return it back to the shop (Mediamarkt) ?
Any chance to get new iconia or money back in terms of guaranty?
Wow, what are you using your volume button for?? A saw or a hammer. I only touch my volume button maybe once or twice a day.
That's the problem. I'm not using the button almost at all.
Sunburn
Just try getting it replaced in the store.
I guess since this is not an issue that restricts the function of your tablet, it wouldn't fall under guarantee.
But the staff at Media Markt is known to have no idea what they're doing, so just demand a replacement.
A refund would be unusual though, you don't normally get that in store.
Regards,
pintness
thanks pintness,
that's the answer, what i was looking for.
THAT Will fall under warranty repair. same as a keyboard on laptop that the letters come off inside the warranty period.. That issue has been seen here on this forum before.. I think that button must have have some type of oil or something on it before it was chromed. Maybe was done right after machine serviced who knows.. I HAD A Car that the bumpers did that a year after i got it.. The dealership repaired it with no issue.. says it happends sometimes.. with Chrome plating....and plating over plastic is even more difficult.. Look up the process online you will see. Its quite amazing at how much goes into one tiny piece .
When all else fails........kentucky chrome
