All those changes where introduced in the XXKL7 Update

I am on unlocked Galaxy Note (bought in Austria), using it in Finland (Elisa operator, if it matters). Showing GINGERBREAD.XXKKA build number. And both Kies on PC and update attempt through phone settings menu says no updates available.
And I don't have those new features. How come? How to get the update??
(Preferably "the supported way" without messing with roms?)

I would not worry too quickly and wait a few days before investing more time into it.
These updates are rolled out over a certain period of time (a week or two is my impression), not every phone gets the update at the exact same time/day.
In fact I checked two days ago as well as Yesterday without being prompted that the new update was available. And just now when checking again it told me I could install the update (which I will do so when I am back home with WiFi).
So patience is probably all you need

I'm on the KKA build as well. Unlocked Note bought through The OEM Shop on Amazon.com with a product code of XEN (Netherlands). From the stock ROMs thread in the development forum, there hasn't been an update for the XEN Notes since November. I'd guess we'll be seeing the update reasonably soon.

KKA:
K=2011
K=11 > November
A=10th build in Nov.11
LA4:
L=2012
A=01 > Jan
4=4th build in Jan.12
So KKA is really old!
I strongly recommend to use at least LA1 or LA3 to have good performance!

LA1 LA3 are with XEU csc
LA4 is with DBT csc
Lets say your csc is XEU aka Europe. And your csc is a multilingual one you could pick DBT update via kies to xxla4 and again go back to XEU after that. But because the xxla4 is a nonwipe update don't expect not to loose your data because on each change of XEU to DBT and back phone does hard reset it's self.
So Carefull if you Make a mistake and you change your csc with this code IT WILL WIPE ALL YOUR DATA except sd card.

So even though my product code is XEN, can I flash the DBT LA4 non-wipe ROM through Odin? Or will it fail since the CSC codes don't match? I have Odin and the .tar file extracted, I'm just hesitant to try it. Thanks.

Why is the news suddenly picking up on this?
It's XKL7 folks, which is 3 weeks old.
See this thread:

Is this the most recent firmware to be pushed OTA or something?
Anyone upgrading should go to LA3/LA4 though - there was quite a bit of improvement speedwise from LA1 to LA3.

Software update

I just clicked on software update/check for update in the 'About Phone' section of my settings. I've never clicked it before. It said new firmware required. So I let it download the new software. Then it said charge battery before updating, and then it let me choose when to resume the update. I chose 3 hours. So I'm on stock Android 2.3.3. Gingerbread XWKE7 . What will it update to? I'm a bit worried now, is it going to wipe stuff? Everything's working good so I don't 'need' to update, but it would be nice to.
Update will be 2.3.4 or 2.3.5 .
jje
Interesting... Just noticed on mine too.
Won't have a chance to do it though until Monday.
Roman5, can you tell us more of this please:-
1. What version?
2. Did it remove anything (shouldn't have)?
3. Anything new noted?
4. Any speed/battery issues?
Thanks...
I think it will be 2.3.4 XWKI4 (updated mine via Kies couple of days ago), doubt it will be 2.3.5 so fast after 2.3.4 because the providers have to check it and add their bloatware to it.
I lost a few of my Apps what wasn't on my SD card, contacts, messages etc, but did a backup on Kies of everything I wanted and restored it after firmware was updated.
Battery life improved a little bit, the fonts are bolder, not really much difference to be honest.
it will be stock 2.3.4 XWKI4 if your on XEU product code.....
ditch that and install 2.3.5 KI8 through Odin
Thanks Guys..... I've left you both a vote each.

and i have in reply
ive just flashed KI8 from KI3 - i used Intratechs KI8 with old bootloaders so i can reset the kernal counter in download mode, but added the XEUKH2 CSC file into Odin thus giving me XEU CSC not NEE as the original firmware - works a treat, non wipe so all apps and settings remain and its very snappy. also brings you upto 2.3.5
Yay, no wipe! This is what I got. I thought it might also update Android but it hasn't. What benefits can I expect from the updated Gingerbread XWKF3?

Wow, I never used Kies before, but now that I have a wifi router, it works!
So, it told me to type in a url into my PC browser and now I see all my phone stuff on my desktop pc screen. Cool.
Now what? What's K14, what's XEU and how do I do this? Will this involve any wiping?

For Vodafone Romania update is to 2.3.5 ( BUKI1 baseband and BUKI3F kernel ).
Is not yet available through Kies but only OTA.
All done, on 2.3.4 now and Gingerbread.XWKI4
http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/4752/successfulupgrade.jpg
It wasn't without it's problems though. Several times it would not connect when I connected the phone to kies and had to reinstall the drivers. The most worrying time was this
http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/5398/failedupgrade1jpg.jpg
http://img820.imageshack.us/img820/9372/failedupgrade2jpg.jpg
And on the phone was the green android and a message saying "do not disconnect target!!". After disconnecting, fortunately it rebooted normally and nothing on the phone had changed. So I followed the instructions, and it went through the whole re-downloading of the firmware, and all went well in the end. Phew!

Do you have a Vodafone Romania branded device and you were able to update through OTA ? Mine says: Samsung account already added and that's it. No update
Yes, I managed to do the OTA update this evening and it has remained on Android 2.3.3
It was worrying as it actually carried out 4 yes four updates.
I didn't notice what it did with the second update but here's a list of the versions it installed:-
Original ~ Baseband = KDH
Gingerbread = KDD
Update 2 ~ Baseband = KDJ
Gingerbread = KE2
Update 3 ~ Baseband = KE4
Gingerbread = KE7
Update 4 ~ Baseband = KE7
Gingerbread = KF3
Update fail
My Czech Vodafone (non-branded) got it's OTA update, first (bigger one) came trough all right, the second one (smaller) did not. After installing and rebooting it is stuck on the first black screen with white text with the name of the phone. No reboot helped, no factory reset from recovery mode:/ nothing!! it is so frustrating !!
any ideas?

How long did you leave it for?
Mine took well over 10mins sitting there at that screen.... Eventually it rebooted.
TYhe same was with the forth update during the applying mode.... It remained on 86% for well over 5mins.
Yes, it was not easy I had the phone rooted, OTA was not working ( update stopped at 7% saying that I need to contact samsung or do upgrade through Kies ). I installed BUKE5 (unroot) then OTA updated to G1 then I1 ( actually was more updates 3-4, no idea how many exactly ).
Funny is that after upgrade Kies say " you are f.ed, you don't have an official version"

LOL i from HK too but just did one minor update through kies, nothing noticeable have been changed... but now the thing stated its firmware in kies is PDA:KK1/PHONE:KJ6 / CSC:KK1 oops... i noticed its now running android 2.3.6 -.-"
The update is rumoured to be that of India.
However it seems to be a routine update within the main 2.3.5 and not an update / upgrade to 2.3.6
I can not confirm the update though.
However I believe Hong Kong is slated to have the first update to 2.3.6 and afterwards only some locations will get the update to 2.3.6. Oddly enough thats what Im hearing - that not everyone is entitled to the 2.3.6 update. Hope that is incorrect though.
Mine just updated, check it out. Running on Android 2.3.6, baseband N7000XXKJ6, Kernel 2.6.35.7-N7000ZSKK1. Build number GINGERBREAD.ZSKK1.

I'm starting to believe, that this update is for "NON-European"-models...
has anyone got XXKJ9 or XXKK3 ?
thats what the article claims to have..
not an update to kk1 (which has been out for a few days)
If you belong to India (running an Indian Unit) you will get an option to immediately update to a version within the 2.3.5 framework. Its a minor maintenance update to improve performance (thats what it actually says on the screen)
The update size is 0.08MB (small!)
However it is a 2.3.5 version (minor update within itself) and not a 2.3.6 as some people may have incorrectly mentioned.
Kernel Version after update will be 2.6.35.7-N7000XXKK3-CL706622 [email protected] #2
Build Number after update will be GINGERBREAD.XXKK3
However this is the Indian version update. I am sure that are countries may be luckier enough to get a 2.3.6 update in Hong Kong however I believe most other users have manually upgraded to 2.3.6.
This is confirmed since I updated my device a few minutes ago.
If you were lucky enough to get an OTA great but for all retail Indian devices the wait continues .. but at least you immediately get a quick minor performance update!
If anyone requires screen shots of the Indian update - I will be more than happy to share mine. I took pics using another phone.

Yours seems to be a manual update or a custom ROM update. If you notice on the top the blue samsung icon. This indicates your Samsung account is not updated yet which probably means that you did not do an OTA update , rather did a manual update.
I did a OTA update and the Samsung icon is not present since nothing gets reset (samsung or market place login).
I have received the same update a 5150Joker here in Hong Kong.
Can anyone enlighten me as to the "improvements" Or not regarding this update?

Possibly, but LB2 is presumably also later than LA4 (LB2 = February 2012 v2; LA4 = January 2012 v4)
There's no 'presumably' about it, LB Roms are newer than LA6.
Anyway, N7000XXLA6 could've been downloaded and flashed from XDA ages ago.

Did you have the CPW (Carphone Warehouse) CSC? I followed your instructions but Kies still insists I have the latest software. As far as I can tell KKA is indeed the latest software for the CPW CSC.
Why on earth to CPW have their own CSC?

if you bought your phone at CPW as i did, then its unlocked, i was on the same firmware, KKA, indeed CPW have not sold locked phones for the last 10 years, so i would think the software would be samsung provided anyway and not thru CPW.
I also got this message this morning, informing me a software update (~ 70mb) is available. It's the first time I have got this message since I got my Note (~4 months ago).
I downloaded the update but it didn't install, probably because I am rooted.
-Is it worth updating?
-What update is it exactly?
-Any differences for those who updated?
I am thinking I should just wait for the official ICS update.
I am Brazilian, but I bought G. Note on my last trip to London. I upgraded, everything was fine, but no difference. The only thing that changed was the home screen. The message: Swipe screen to unlock. Moreover, nothing more. Someone noticed a major change?
OK, unbranded but rooted here.
Same update failed message with update OTA.
Anybody any idea of whats changed with a successful flash?
Is this 'update' worth persuing?
Regards,
Agent
Just wait for a repackaged release on this forum, it'll be safer.

I know you will be right, +1
The differences I can find is torch widget and qwerty keyboard has numbers on top , making the letters a fraction smaller.
I also got notification via the Samsung updater and it pulled down a 70 Meg file but couldn't install it (I tried twice).
It did work via Kies though, but killed off root.
(I'm still a bit wary about Odin etc. on the Note, although I've only been a Notehead for a few days. I was comfortable with Odin on SGS2.)
A big thanks to Chainfire and Dr. Ketan for their postings here, I'm still a little confused about whether the jig works or not.

It's here for phones with the XEU CSC. If you're on a Carphonewarehouse (CPW) CSC I guess there's no update for you yet.
use checkfus and dowmload the rom of your choice cpw is on it too

On my 2.3.6 LA6 ROM I've got JKay's mod, everything's super stable and there are no issues with Recovery turning the phone into a brick. Does it really make sense to upgrade just now?

Well I took the plunge. First I tried Criskelo's ICS V5.1, but I didn't like the theme and very quickly found things that didn't work properly, so then I tried stock LQ2, using Mobile Odin Pro to keep root and the CF-Root V5.6 kernel.
It's early days, but so far I'm happy. Getting set up was a pain - it was only after 2 attempts that I discovered that Bookmark Sort & Backup isn't ICS compatible and was screwing up my Browser. I therefore had to do 2 complete wipes using CF-Root v5.6. This claims to have (probably) fixed the superbrick bug, and it certainly worked fine for me - whew!
I'm missing all the toggles of Jkay because there isn't a version of the 15 toggle mod for stock LQ2, but hopefully that'll come soon and SwipePad replaces the quick launcher panel nicely.
So no regrets yet, but there's still the odd lag here and there, and I can't say it's a significantly better experience. Also I can't sketch to save myself, so the new S-Pen applications aren't important to me. Still, got to move with the times! There's still nothing to replace my wonderful Note.
UK ICS Build (Carphone Warehouse) for Note is super stable
DQ of the day?
Downloaded & installed N7000XEULP4 via this site.
I intend to root again as mobile odin failed to inject root - yes I followed the good Dr's direction.
I used PC Odin, reset to factory in stock recovery (post flash) after 15min wait at the Samsung logo (very tentatively re-set due to massive information about deleting killing partitions, mmc sections etc & the unit is now one stock ics 4.0.3
So after I have rooted following http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360.
I wish to re-load a previous ics (paranoid android) am I likely to hit the 'brick-wall')?
Need to ask I killed one note already :mad,
