I have the problem with the touch screen when the phone is charging on the same cord extension with another phone (not with all phones and chargers). There are several options when a problem occurs. For example, when you charge the S2 and not the other phone it works perfectly, then when you plug in another phone it work's part of time and touch again becomes unresponsive, then stop charging the other phone and it works again. It helps to put the phone in standby and then wake up again to get all worked again. Also if you have a bed power supply on a computer and put the phone on USB there will be a similar problem. To resolve this you just need to charge your phone alone on the ext cord or socket . I think the problem is in voltage interference filtering. Sry for bad Eng
Here is a YT video.

Yes, i also have that problem.. it depends on charger i use. Lower the current from charger (pc usb), less the problem occurs... but problem always there if you are sensitive enaugh to notice...

Solution is to charge phone separately . Its hardware problem, phone cant rectifie input voltage.
Same happened to my Huawei U8800.It has to do with how much mA we draw from the charger.I will try to lower the mA through voltage control and report tomorrow.

I have a voltage filter and with that it works perfectly. Voltage filter specs are:
1uF(X2)MKT+2x12mH+1uF(X2)MKT
+2x2200pF(Y)MKP +680KOhm
1A 250V 25/085/21 HPF

not at all hardware problem its due to the kernel........
device with stock kernel acts like unresponsive while in charging.....
when kernels like ninphetemine and siyah used by device, it wont happens at all due to modifications.......

Voltage control is a nice backup solution as it lets you regulate input voltage as mentionned above. I tried to reproduce the issue without Voltage Control setting and there is indeed a voltage issue when having two devices on one charger. If I set Voltage control for charger to 500mA, problem dissapears. Only issue is that it charges slower, but not by much.

I would like to bump this post, as it's relevant to my phone atm. I installed the Omega 6 rom the other day (Android 4.0.3) and I only had this problem when I was charging, now I have the problem regardless.
I'm using an Elago stylus pen when I play "Draw Something", and with it, I can draw pretty much as if I was drawing with a regular pen. Sadly after installing 4.0.3 this is no longer POSSIBRUU!
I try drawing a small circle, and the circle will never "close" - if that makes sence... They will always look like an ugly "C"... Annoying the crap out of me, cause I'm quite a nitpicker - and I'll go back to 2.3.6 (Omega 10.4) if I don't find a solution to this issue soon.
I also tried "TouchScreenTune" to increase sensitivity - but to no avail.
Thanks for your time.

Try a different charger. I experience this problem with the stock Samsung charger, but when I use an iPad charger, the screen is fully responsive.

Yes some chargers do not have this problem.I experienced the same problem with my old (and stolen) Huawei IDEOS X5.It has something to do with overcurrent while charging, this is my conclusion, because when i charge with a usb i don't have this problem.Same chargers are charging fine an HTC Desire.

And how do I do that...?
Sorry, I'm slow...
And to be clear; I would like my phone to be most responsive when I'm NOT charging it... That's a given I suppose =)
I think it can be lessened with some software tweaks.
Coming from a i9100G, in stock ROM and kernel typing is horrible when plugged and charging. After flashing a custom ROM, the problem was much less.
Problem solved. I CWM-restored back to my old 2.3.6 (Omega 10.4).
oooh, i have never try this

I'm using an Elago Stylus - and when your screen is responsive (as it should be) - it's an amazing pen, very precise and it's almost like drawing with a real pen. (appart from the fact that the tip is made of rubber and is soft).
If you have an issue with the screen -- like this thread is all about -- don't even bother getting a stylus. You'd be too annoyed.
This is the pen I use.

When I leave the Nexus 4 on a flat surface with nothing around it, it will randomly turn the screen on, wait the 30 second timer, then turn back off.
I did just install 4.2.2, but I hadn't used it enough before to say if it only started since then.
I'm currently unrooted, though unlocked the bootloader when I first got it so I do plan to root soon, would flashing a custom kernel like franco kernel possibly fix this? Or would this be a problem in the rom or a third party app?
In BetterBatteryStats I saw 2 Kernel Wakelocks that seemed to have a high ammount of wakes.

And here's the BetterBatteryStats Dump File: https://www.dropbox.com/s/dbc2vn3littc0fp/BetterBatteryStats-2013-02-21_054751350.txt

Not sure, guess it's possible, but even if it is lose I wouldn't expect it to effect it once it starts unless it gets bumped.
Also, what is the temp of the battery when charging? Not sure if it's true but I've heard that if the battery is over 40c it won't charge properly.
If you want, here's a really nice widget with temp on it: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ccc71.bmw
I would just be careful with anything to void your warranty until you figure out whats causing the problem, as I've heard a lot of stories about bad batteries, and shorts in usb causing the red light bug (For lack of a better name).

Thanks for the link. I actually looked through the 'must have apps for the N4' thread under themes and apps, and Goku80 had posted a link to a battery meter that I just downloaded and installed moments ago. I have yet to see what the charge temp is, but I will report back tonight. Idle temp is around 25*c from what I've noticed just now.
The only thing I've noticed with temps so far is when I have my phone pulled in and I'm watching something on the phone. The phone gets really hot, and the system starts to lag badly. I would assume this is a fail-safe for the battery to not overheat by downclocking itself, but this is only a theory.
As for the red light bug, I saw my phone drop from 28% to 4% instantly out of nowhere yesterday, with no warnings. I immediately pulled the phone in, and watched the battery meter jump to 30%. According to the red light threads, I think it's a software issue with the phone shutting down completely when it thinks it's out of battery to prevent damage. Hopefully we'll never run into that issue ourselves.
Hello XDA,
I have a little "problem" with my phone. I find it hard to explain in english, but I'll try. Sometimes when I'm charging my phone with my charger (not through USB) the screen lags. I mean when I for example go to that testmode *#0*# and draw something there in that touchtestmode, everything I draw lags behind. Same thing if I pull down the notifications bar. It comes down really smooth (not a bad framerate or anything), but so slow and the bottom of the bar doesn't stay under my finger like it normally does, but lags behind. Also when I scroll down any menus in any app it feels as it comes very much behind, not so smooth as it usually is. It's not a big issue, but I'd like to know why this happens. I'm using the official charger which came with my GT-I9505 through a normal wall socket in Finland so I'm not abusing any equipment
I had the same effect with some chargers. Not oem, very weird stuff.

Did this lag start from the first day itself or was it a development after a few days of usage?? You can try a few things.... try a different OEM charger....and also try your charger on someone else's phone....this will give you an idea about where your problem is....once you've isolated the cause...you can claim warranty or buy a new charger...try ot out...hope this helps
I guess your phone gets too hot and starts to lag

Have you seen if this is a problem with other users? I'm using PAC ROM and have the same result with the screen being lit to a black screen when powered off and charging. I'm checking now to see if it overheats. It may be(and probably is) the screen on and charging at the same time that is causing it to heat up like that. My suggestion is to not charge while powered off if you can help it. A little warm is ok, but these quad-core phones can cook when that CPU is going.. I've felt mine to the point of needing to power it off with usage in the sun making it unbearably hot. And if it's getting HOT HOT.. than yeah.
3 things you can do.
1.Charge with phone powered on.
2.Go back to stock ROM where this was not an issue.
3.Work with the devs to try and figure out what is causing it. Be prepared to provide a logcat if the problem can't be reproduced on their end.
My phone has been charging off for about 10 minutes now and it still feels a little cool to the touch. Battery is 100% full. Not sure if that makes a difference. I'll keep in on charge for another 10. I'll update this post in a little bit.
**UPDATE** Its been on the charger for 30 minutes.. no heat increase. Note* I'm running PAC ROM AOSP ROM.
Batteries always get hot if you use them while they are charging. This is slightly harmful to the battery too, but if it only happens once or twice I wouldnt worry about it.
All AOSP roms on this device so far are afflicted by this problem. Just turn your phone on first and as soon as you see the boot logo you can plug it in. You'll get used to it.

The port changed back to USB 2 - I know wtf, right? Apparently too many people complained about the usb 3 port not being compatible - HA. Guess people didn't know you could still use a micro usb 2.0 connector? It does however charge just as fast when using AC.

It's the tmo variant - bloat is unfortunately about the same as the Note 3 - T-Mobile vvm, my account, tv, name id, all the google apps, - literally all of them, facebook... no messenger, and that's about it.

They changed the usb cable to a normal one, no more thick cable with the strange
wide plug... Samsung added a quick chargiing method which can charge the phone
50% full in 30 minutes, meaning that if the battery is drained it can fully charge it
in about an hour.
I always hated the new wide usb plug for the usb cable, a few days after purchasing
the Note 3 I found out that the normal old usb cable with the mini usb plug could can
be used on Note 3, I know the wide plug and the thick cable were meant to be used with
USB 3.0 however I tested the time it took to copy a 2GB file using my computer's usb 3.0
and the note 3's special thick usb cable and found that there was virtually no difference in
copying the 2GB file, and there was no difference in charging time.
I seriously doubt that it will fully charge in an hour. It makes sense if you do the math but there has to be a catch.
Yes the 50% in a half hour is correct but it switches to trickle charging at some point and thus takes longer.
This I think is just the built-in fast charging of the snapdragon 805, same as other phones.

Yes in the car. And I understand that it will heat up. The problem is if it's heating up to the point of stopping charging, because on a long trip (just when you need the GPS most) you can't use this functionality. My use case is exactly as you described - So Cal weather, full brightness (because sun), wireless charging and GPS. I know that's pushing the envelope, but for the price, I expect it to be able to do it.

This should definately keep the phone cool, not sure how you're wireless charging is setup, but you can always cable charge and then a universal vent mount will keep it super cool.

On my XT1032 from UK the digitizer stoped working on both the app and web page test i'm kind of confused, is that bad?

Interesting.

Maybe this is the reason why the touchscreen behaves kind of weird when the phone is connected to the charger...

Are you sure it happens only when charging? Mine doesn't do that but AFAIK that happens because the charger you're using its providing more voltage than required (happened to me when used a Galaxy Tab charger)
This test messed the touch screen always, I didn't need to have the phone charging to notice the fake touches.
I'm only saying that I have some problems with the touchscreen while charging, not necessarily using this app.
But if the charger is giving more than enough voltage that seems kind of dangerous. I will check on that.
My touch also acts weird every time when charging through PC USB and/or while charging with an unknown Chinese charge that provides 500mAh on 5V... But with original Sony charger it doesn't happens every time...
Maybe it's some kind of hardware and software glitch.
Like many others - digitizer was behaving weird while charging, only this time with an original Apple charger. No-name chinese chargers seem to be fine
This is however not what the OP had in mind. Try the web test - a simple webpage can temporalily disable your digitizer.
I only have the problem while charging when I'm using a chinese (no-brand) charger. It does not happen when using original moto g charger or the LG charger.
