[Q] sim memory full? - Focus General

The Focus seems to be storing my messages on my SIM and so i'm running out of space pretty fast. Is it supposed to do that? I figured it'd keep it on the memory card or at least on the phone.

What type of Focus do you have, what OS version etc.
How many contacts and messages do you have? Are all those on the SIM?
Messages are stored by the OS in Focus i917 on internal storage, so unless the global memory is getting very low on free space, I don't see how it's possible what you're describing.

I have the Focus I917 with Mango installed. I do have contacts on my sim but they were all imported into the phone's memory.
But I just had a thought. I was using a dumb-phone earlier and it was storing messages on my SIM. I never deleted those messages so maybe it created the threads for those messages on the SIM itself.
I Cleared the SIM now, so i'll text like crazy for a bit and then post back here if it happens again.
Cheers

SIM card memory full

Hello,
Could anyone help me? I keep getting a SIM card memory is full message although I have removed all of my contacts from there as well as deleted all of the messages. Also, how could I get my emails to be stored in the SD card? Just one more question, Everytime I try to access the phone stttings, I get a "phone not ready, retry in 15 seconds". does anyone know what this is about???
strange, sms are stored on the phone by default and not the sim.
Mails are not stored on the sim but the phone memory. You must have filled the memory. You can choose to store the atachments on the sd card via the mail options or you can read this tread for storing mails and mms on the sd card.

Where Text Messages are Saved..

Is it possible to change the location that text messages are saved too?
ie, could you change it so they are stored on the memory card rather than the phones internal memory?
And on a similar point, if they WERE saved on the memory card, would accessing them be slower (is the memory card slower memory than the internal memory)?
Thanks for your help in advance..

i wonder why it stopped at four, though. after the fourth, all messages stopped being saved to the sim and it hasn't happened since. i haven't changed anything so i'm terribly confused!
So far, what I can suggest is for you guys to load the SIM card into any 3G/HSDPA modem client. This client will show the SMS contents in the SIM card. You can then delete them from this client.
what is 3G/HSDPA modem client?
bump this up, still need help!
anyone? anyone at all?
happened to me on AT&T when we went to DST a few months back. I don't even have a clue on how to save SMS with the HTC messaging client let alone how to delete it. After a few days the messages would disappear complete and all order has been restored.

I'm having the same problem man..I even called t-mobile "htc hd2 experts", but all they did is the same thing as what everyone else on this topic is doing lol...
I have the same problem here :-(
I have a message saved on my sim card that I can't delete either. It's annoying. Anyone found a solution to this? Is there a way to browse the sim from the file explorer?
bump. also have this problem
I try to found a solution, but I just has been reading about delete them from a SIM Card USB reader :-(
you gotta transfer your sim card to a different phone and delete the msgs there. thats what i did and it worked. I used a sony ericcson k800 phone to do it. Im not sure if theres a certain phone to transfer to but im guessing a non HD2 phone? haha

Finally I can delete the messages. I put my SIM Card in other phone (BlackBerry) and delete the SMS from there and put back the SIM Card on my HTC HD2 and the messages was deleted!
bump
Same problem here. I can 'get around' it by putting the SIM card into another phone, but that is unacceptable as a long-term workaround. Some messages are delivered straight to the SIM, and having to swap the card once a week or more is not making me happy with the device.
Is there a 3rd parry software package that allows one to delete sms messages from the SIM?
Disable SMS copy to SIM
::bump::
Can we work on a patch to disable SMS copy to SIM?
That way when its accidentally copied we don't have to pull out the SIM to delete it on another device.
hey everyone, I've been lurking for quite some time now. Finally have something noteworthy to share. I had the same problem with SMS saved to my SIM...just go to your SIM manager...copy your SIM contacts onto your device...then delete the contacts left on your SIM. I then used PIM backup to store my contacts onto my SD card...just in case my phone goes to sh!t.
Same problem. Reported it to Tmo
They dont know balls.
I tried everything. Put Sim in another phone tried deleting the message but wouldnt work.
Even ordered a new sim card. Lasted about two weeks before the phantom voicemail/129 text started popping up again.
Text from 129 its part of the HD2 on TMO, accept it.

Memory Full?

I get an error saying:
The memory is full. Please delete some messages.
What does it mean?
And the error keeps popping up
I read somewhere it was because the sim sms box was full. I mean with 1gb rom and 16gb sd card why does it not store this information on the rom or sdcard?

The error can come from having Pics, Videos, Email, Ringtones all saved to the phone instead of the SD card. I would go through what is in your Documents folder and move everything to your SD card. It can also come from having programs installed to the phone memory.
Go to SMS. Delete any messages from T-Mobile or whatever your system provider is.
Then All Messages in the lower left
Menu on the right
Scroll down to Tools
Choose Empty Deleted Items
I had this problem too. Apparently by default it only moves deleted SMS to a "trash" until you do this.
But my memory is not full. I guess if have to delete some messages I will.
I had this same issue with one of my users, turned out to be the sim card. It was an older sim and i guess they do not have the same amount of memory as the newer ones. Get yourself a new sim and you will be GTG.
Messages stored on sim
GO to you messages and delete the messages with the icon of a sim card next to them. I just had this issue with my HD2 and now its solved.

I figured this out a little while ago, but it is still dumb that we get such an error.

Well it's referring to the memory on your SIM, not on your phone. The best way to avoid this is to just make sure you have the contacts on your SIM copied to the contact list on your phone, so the messages are saved in a way that doesn't cause this issue.

Messages From Nokia to HTC!!!?! Come on guys!

Hello guys!
In a few days i will buy my first WM phone, which is the HTC HD2, and I will sell my Nokia N96!
BUT i have about 3000 or more text messages that i like to keep; i was storing them on my microSD card; my question is:
-If I put the card into the HD2, does it identify the messages?! (i mean can i see them and use them as if they were sent/received by the HD2?!) (did anyone try this before?!)
-If not; is there is anyway to do that?! I don't want to loose these msgs in anyway!
-Does the HD2 have the same option as nokia in creating folders and menaging the text msgs in these folders?!
-One more thing! Does the HD2 have the possibility to move/copy messages from SIM card to the memory card installed on the phone?! And/or to the phone memory?!
Thanks guys you're awesome!
Are u planning 2 put ur old card into HD2 without formatting?Isnt that a bad idea?
I faced the same issue but i used a new card for my HD2.
See if this thread helps u:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=551399
Im not sure about your texts but I took the sd card straight from my N95 to my HD2 and there were no problems.....
Im sure there'll be a way to sync those texts to pc and then back to the HD2, they may even be there straight away, Im not 100% on this though.....
Theres bound to be "an app for that" out there somewhere though....
Have you had a long hard google session??
10x man! Not a long session! I had a short one and i mainly found that the first result on google is a thread in here (xda); (it's the one that our colleague mentioned to me in the 1st reply);
it's a bit complicated method and will take maybe days to transfer about 4000 msgs!
I need a fast way to do that!
Please guys somebody help; i guess i shouldn't be the first one to face that! Maybe everyone of you had a nokia before switching to htc!!!
HD2 saves texts to the internal storage AFAIK. Saving 4000+ messages to it will leave you with little internal storage for other thing. My advise is to search and backup your most beloved text messages and backup online or something and just start over with a fresh HD2.

It shouldn't take up more than 5Mbs, I believe your average SMS is only 1kb, it's only a rough guess but I'd say it'd only use up 5-8Mbs or so, depending on your text length of course.
3,000 test messages!!! Why would anyone want to keep so many??? (I'm simply curious )
