When I toggle my wifi on I always get a "Connection to the internet has been restored", when I toggle it off it says "Connection to the internet been lost". This has just started resently, been on JVZ, JVU, and JW1, Never did this on JVT. Is anyone else getting this ? My wifi is working fine, doesnt drop off, just says this when I disconnect or turn on.
I'm on JW1 and don't get that when I toggle Wi-fi on/off.
I am using a bare bones rooted kernel.
Sorted.... It was an app... Froze a handful and started defrosting till it appeared. The app was TSN Mobile.

Thanks a ton! Had exact same issue, it was driving me nuts. Uninstalled TSN app and all is good.
Thanks again.

Is anyone else having trouble with their WiFi dropping out all the time? My phone keeps dropping WiFi, dropping back to 3G. I have to keep going to settings and telling it to reconnect.
I have a Linksys WRT54GL running Tomato firmware. Most things can connect to it just fine, but my Dell Laptop from work gives me a BSOD when I try to connect it wirelessly.
Thoughts?
I think I figured it out. I upgraded my Tomato firmware on the router, and WiFi seems to be working much better.

Please post back if it acts up again. My wifi has stopped working a few times and I had to manually reset it. My problem was compounded because 3g seemed to be active but webpages would timeout and sync would fail. Really annoying.
no problems with my wifi but I turn off network data. Maybe that helps?

I have the same issue. My wi-fi goes down and keeps looping through "obtaining an IP address". Killed my battery last night trying to connect to wi-fi. I can't get it coinnected again until I reset my router. weird?
I don't know if I would classify it as constant, but the University wireless network disconnects after some period of inactivity. I'm not certain if it is due to the phone or the network.

It seems like it is still doing it, but I'm wondering if what it is actually doing now is disconnecting after a period of disuse, then reconnecting.
It seems like if I don't see the WiFi symbol, and I select Mail or the Browser, it will re-appear.
I have similar issues with WIFI. It seems having a hard time connecting or even seeing the signal at times, but other times it's fine. I have WIFI at home and at work, and many places I am so I use it all the time, and all of them I have set up (I'm a sys admin).
I have WiFi analizer loaded and at times it won't even see my netowrks when my laptop is already connected. If I reboot the phone it seems to fix it after a min or so. Sometimes turning WiFi off and on helps but not always.
It's really inconsistant... I'll go a few days with no problems, then it will have problems for a day or so. Open or encrypted don't seem to make a differance.

Tomato firmware, that sounds cute.
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=1040
Issue 1040: wifi does not timeout on idle
Issue that was in an earlier version of Android, and is back in 2.1.
When the phone sleeps, it turns off WiFi. Then, it won't turn it back on properly until you go to settings or sometimes WiFi settings. Then it just pops on automatically.
Yup, I got this problem too and its very annoying.
It usually happens when the phone has been sleeping for an extended period of time. Sometimes wifi disconnects and will not reconnect even when I'm in the middle of browsing the web.
i had this issue as well.... i went to settings/wireless and networks/wifi settings....then hit menu/advanced/wifi sleep policy.... i selected nver and haven't had a problem since
Problem is, "never" is already selected and issue still persists.
I had set it to 15 minutes to see if it fixed the problem, because I was having it when it was set to never. I'm setting it to never now to see if
the GUI just wasn't displaying the value that was set.

UPDATE: When comparing to my coworker's phone (who doesn't have this problem), we went through all settings/etc and matched them up exactly. The only major difference between our two phones was that I was running Launcher Pro. When I uninstalled it, this problem went away completely. HSPA+ did get activated in the Google Market, but it didn't hinder my browsing experience. Anyone else having this issue, are you running Launcher Pro? And if so, if you uninstall it, does it fix the problem?
I know that there is an ongoing issue that Motorola is looking into concerning HSPA+ data connectivity dropping out. This is not that issue.
Here's the scenario:
- Atrix 4G purchased on release date
- Using 4G SIM card
- No SIM unlocks
- Have 4Gig Tethering plan
- Set to AT&T US HSDPA APN (have tried AT&T US Tether and AT&T US wap.cingular)
- Connected to Wifi
- Issue occurred prior to rooting and after rooting.
- Issue has occurred since day 1 of using device.
Issue: Launching Google Market and browsing around will eventually start showing connection timeouts, typically after looking in a few app descriptions.
What I notice:
- When connected to wifi, the cell data connection gets turned off (i.e. the grey up/down arrows are no longer showing). I assume this is how it is supposed to work (since if on wifi, no need for cell data connection).
- When launching the Google Market application, and after browsing for a few seconds, I notice the cell data connection doing something (grey arrows come back, and then will briefly show black arrows, then back to grey).
- Once the issue occurs, I attempt to browse in Dolphin or even the XDA application, and it doesn't connect.
- Turning wifi off then back on fixes wifi until I try Google Market again.
- Turning cell data off allows Google Market to work fine with no issue.
Thoughts:
- It seems that when connected to wifi, the cell data connection should be getting overridden regardless.
- Somehow Google Market is causing the cell data connection to activate and messing up wifi
- This happened on a 3G SIM and a 4G SIM (so it doesn't seem like a connection problem, simply a software issue)
- I have a coworker who has an Atrix as well and does not have this problem when connected to wifi
- I have other devices connected to the same wifi without issue (thus not a wifi router issue)
Any and all help is truly appreciated and thank you in advance!
Nice first post and seems pretty accurate. I switched on airplane mode and then just enabled wifi to test this out and had a zen-like market experience. Not a single hang up. Hopefully this will help lead to a fix. Thanks.
Have you tried switching off your data connection before connecting to wifi?
I had a similar issue where my wifi would be on simultaneously with my data connection so I just hit airplane mode whil wifi was on that turned off both wifi and data then I re-enabled wifi (airplane mode still on) waited for it to connect then I turned airplane mode off. Never had the issue again

Hopefully motorola looks into this as this is my only true gripe at the moment. I go to dl an app and it stops at a random percentage, I go back into market and see the app is paused. I cancel and Redownload and usually works. I also get a timeout error almost every time I go into market and have to choose retry or close.

Turning off data connection does solve the problem, however that is only a stop-gap and I have to leave the data connection off (then remember to turn it back on when I leave my wifi area). No other application I use has this issue, so I would expect it's a software problem, but it doesn't seem to affect every Atrix owner.

Yeah I've done that too, sadly it still crops up for me.

Exactly, those are my experiences as well when on wifi with cell data not explicitly turned off.
UPDATE: Turns out that when factory resetting, the market app when first run works perfectly (doesn't try to activate cell data when on wifi). The problem is that the market app auto-updates to a version that has this problem.
Here's hoping for a fix soon. Thankfully Juice Defender gives me an automatic way to handle the cell data issue since when it detects it's on wifi, it turns off cell data so I don't have to.
Update
I posted an update in the original post. It seems Launcher Pro was the culprit.
Every now and then my Nexus 4 forgets (?) my home and work wifi, and a re-scan does not even show them in the list of available networks. The only way to find them again is to reboot the phone, and then all connections work fine for a couple of days, and then the problem repeats itself. The problem seems to happen whenever i switch off WiFi and then switch in on again. If I do that, only a reboot solves the problem.
Is there a way instead of rebooting, to just restart all network services? I found an app that says that it does that but it does not work (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dazbradbury.restartConnections&hl=en)
Any other app, hack, setting I could use?
I am running the latest Cyanogenmod (android 4.2.2) with Kernel 3.4.0-perf-g4857f9b
Thanks all!

Will try that ASAP... Thanks!
Hi guys
Often, expecially when i'm at home and expecially after some mintues of inactivity, the 3g stocks with only green arrow (upload) and i can't use any app (browser, whatsapp etc.)
I tried to flash MJ7 modem but the situation hasn't changed.
What can i do?
Just disconnect and connect back to the network via some Data Enabler switch.

I am facing the same problem, whether i am on wifi or mobile network, my connection seems to be unstable, especially when screen is off. Once I switch on the phone, I start receiving many notifications at once, So it seems that data connection sometimes gets off and reconnects once the screen gets on. The issue happens on wifi as well as mobile network.
many times I loose connection even with the phone on, after browsing web or using other network related apps. after switching off data toggle, the connection restores back to normal.
Couldn't find any solution yet. On my Galaxy S4 I never had such an issue

fixed?
Someone has found a fix for it?
I tried searching and I have not found a solution yet. I'm running SHOstock-I with ktoonz kernel on android 4.4.2.
For some reason, my Wifi randomly disconnects from any currently connected wifi network. The first thing I try to do is to connect back to the wifi network (any available network), but it simply tries and says "Connection Failed". Next, I try to disable the wifi connectivity alltogether, but after I tap the toggle button it becomes "greyed-out" and I can't toggle it.. it just hangs. If I go back a step and then select wifi again, then I can try to disable it but the same thing just happens again.
If I reboot, then wifi works again.
Oddly enough, if I enable/disable teathering, then wifi starts to work again.
It seems I can't run Wifi for more than an hour without this issue happening. It seems to have just started doing this out of the blue. I suspect a full wipe would solve the issue but I'd rather not do that unless I have to. It usually takes me a while to get things back to normal after a wipe.
Any ideas?
Some solved the problem by unInstalling the Smart Wifi utility (for ATT and maybe other carriers too).

Thanks, but I don't have that app installed. I am positive this is not a router issue as well.
Everytime I wipe cache/delvik then the issue doesn't occur for a few days, which I think is odd. I also tried different kernels and the problem persisted.
Does anyone know if it's possible to confirm if this is a hardware issue? I doubt it...

It is a good idea to turn off any 'connection optimizer' or 'wifi optimizer' application or setting, in short anything that decides what connection is selected based on available connections should be turned off. The most probable reason for the problem is badly programmed software.
