My primary concern is with battery life and 4G. Thanks.
kush deck's 1.3 aosp rom
tiamat sbc kernel

smartassV2 governor
go launcher ex
youll have excellent battery life plus 4G if its in ur area. launcher u can customize.
also perhaps u can update radio/nv to newest.

MIKG 3.0 Kernel that comes with it. I have had no issues with this ROM and you can add themes to it. It has Wimax working and have had no major issues with it. I go all day (work day) without a charge.
gonna agree with decks 1.3d
honestly i have been trying to figure out if the newer tiamat 4.1.0 and 3.3.7.
i like the smartass v2 4.1.0 seems to be ramp up a bit quicker and isnt a bad thing. 3.3.7 may have a little more battery life to it and i'll admit any lag may be just me lol
sidenote: the older tiamat doesnt have smartass v2 and i dont know the differences if any just saying im going off personal experienced
using stock launcher atm this time i've used adw and the newer kernel seemed to stay snappier if that makes sense. havent tried launcher pro plus yet but im sure that will be about the same since hell adw has been updated more than lpp.
i forgot to add to have a "partioned" sd card with at least 1024 in ext partition, then also to convert that from ext2 to ext3 (u can do all that in amon ra recovery) .
after rom settles flash dark tremors a2sd zip from recovery, go to market n get a2sdgui. inside this app choose to move dalvik cache to ext partition. also u can select to zip align on boot.
ps. this goes with my previous post above.

Thanks guys. I will try Deck's ROM and the suggested kernel.
I used to have 3 hrs (give or take) of battery life on stock HTC Sense. After switching to MIUI w/ a Tiamat kernel undervolted by -50V via viperMOD, my battery lasted for days at a time.
According to Green_Arrow's guide to the best GB and ICS ROMs, MIUI is described as having "the longest battery life" and is hailed as "very customizable." Green_Arrow goes on to say that "this rom is based off of CM7 and is an excelent rom."
I'd recommend MIUI to anyone looking for a fast, stable, energy-saving Gingerbread ROM as long as they stay away from the latest 1.12.23+ versions. A lot of people are reporting a lot of issues that shouldn't be issues on those builds; Most people would recommend MIUI 1.12.9. Happy flashing!
no 4G in miui...
it is very cool how u can customize the looks of it though!!
to OP: one last thing is to flash the "updated gps fix" zip file which is somewhere in these forums. will give u near instant lock.
pm me for any questions u have or if u need help!

Well I was looking for a new kernel the other day. I was getting tired of the lag of kingklicks kernels for gps. No offense king, Ive used your kernels since day one of my inc. So I went searching for a new kernel and tried out ziggys outrageous 1.28 lightspeed kernel which turned out to b false (really 1.15, somebody lied to him bout the code). Well on Oct 26th he came out with his new BFS kernel of the source code 2.6.32.24 with being overclock to 1.19. He uses this for bfs which king is still using 2.6.32.15. So far as using it no lag on gps and still get the same quadrant(1680) and linpack(40.223) as kings BFS. If you looking to try a new kernel heres the link. I hope ziggy471 dont mind but mad props to him.

I have used it on skyraider 3.3.2 now for the last 3 days with exceptional responsiveness and exceptional battery life. I heard people use the AOSP kernel for cyanogenmod and it has been worthy for them too. Difference is AOSP is for people who dont use SENSE UI in the rom. What rom are you using? Also did you clear dalvik cache and regular cache for. I downloaded the non-AOSP.
You can't be using one or the other kernel, either your running an AOSP rom or a Sense rom. That right there tells you which kernel to choose.

I hope this is in reference to the comment above my last one. Cuz I do know what kernel and rom Im running. I use the non-AOSP cuz my sense ui is still intact. NON_VANILLA
This is BFS with HAVS correct? How is the battery life/responsiveness?
Battery life is excellent, best I have had. Quadrant has been in the 1400's consistently (overclocked to 1.113), as apposed to others that are in the 1100-1200 range (including king's) with random moments of greatness into 1400.

Does it lag at all though? I installed King's CFS on CM 6.0.2 and it lagged alot. The 6.1rc2 kernel is very snappy
Nope, no lag. Just a good kernel. I am actually very pleased considering I have suffered with others.
After about 20 or so hours my phone has to be restarted, for some reason there is lag that occurs that can only be fixed with a reboot.
I've had this happen with other kernels too

This is why I stopped using Kings kernals, phone gets stuck at 100% cpu and needs to be reset.
That sucks this kernal does the same.
I just wiped Dalvik and system cache, installed and rebooted. It's seemingly stuck on the bootscreen. How long has it taken to reboot you guys?
Up to ten minutes after wiping Dalvik cache. Hang tight!
It's probably the BFS scheduler... even though the bfs faq says it's good to use in phones.. lol
http://ck.kolivas.org/patches/bfs/bfs-faq.txt
I wonder if our phones would benefit from a higher tickrate when using bfs..

Well, user "Panda Fuzz" is using this kernal okay with my radio version. Hmm.. Must be my 2.5.1.1 version of CMR. People have reported problems with SR 3.3.2 and 2.5.1.1, but not me. This will be the first problem I have encountered with it. Guess I will try going back to CMR 2.5.0.5 and give ole ziggy another shot.
Hi,
I got a new htc desire-S and intend to set it to OFF and than get root.
What shall I do next after that.
What do you recomand to do to get better performance and more? What are best apps and tricks for rooted phone?
thanks for advices
After root and s-off, I would flash a custom rom. Try cyanogenmod 7,I like it. You can also try doing bootanimations, and flashing themes. Cyanogenmod has crapware uninstalled so you won't have to worry about that. Also, you can download Setcpu, adfree, and free tethering.
Evo 4G
Cyanogenmod 7
ill give another vote to cm7. i spent some time checking out some of the custom roms with sense and then i tried cm7 and have never gone back. great rom
give my vote to cm7. super rom, fast, bug free and stable
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
yes cm7 but the battery life sucks. to prevent the battery life from draining try cm7 with a custom kernel (tiamat sbc or savaged zen) i use tiamat sbc with a rom based on cm7 and battery life is great.
Hey ,
guys what is the best ROM rigth now for SGS ( ROM + kernel )?
im looking for good battey and the fastest that can be xD
i dont care about the design
what u guys think?
the ROMs i have been told that good are
Simply Honey
CM7
what u guys think about this 2 ROMs ?
I think the best one is the stock JVP, with a fugumod kernel. Install a deodexed so you can install mods, like gtalk with video, a Gingerbread theme and you're good to go!

Try juwe you won't regret

[KERNEL] DarckCore 2.7.3
2gether are flyin'
I'm using the Simply Honey since 3.5 but the last one 3.6.1 is very nice and stable.
@Elia: just try some ROMs and you'll find your favourite one.

Go for what's in my signature.. And i've tried lots of gingerbread.
juwe rom + dark core kernel for me. fast n nice theme
Tweaky's ROM, DarkCore kernel, Gingerbread launcher from Market. Best combination for me. Fast, stable and nice looking (stock glass screen, stock Gingerbread theme, 3D app drawer).
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S running Tweaky's ROM with XXJVP Gengerbread
The best rom that i've just found for my SGS after 2 months is:
Rom: RomKitchen jvp (all the basic stuff, you don't need all the crappy things for Samsung) with Modem JVP
Kernel: Semaphore_kernel_JVP_1.2.0 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112908).
New drivers, compatible with Tegra: (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1087427).
I removed for caution software update process.
I OC'ed my phone to 1200 mhz and works very well. Only one freeze in 5 days.
The Quadrant score is ~ 2200 - 2750. (i know it's irrelevant but i had to mention about this)
The phone is really fast - i can compare with CM7.
The battery life is very very good.
Take a try and tell me if you like it.

agreed dont know how everyone can say get gingerbread when it has bugs that are not in 2.2.1..
there is a battery drain bug .. may be fixed in 2.3.4 not sue
there is a non working vpn bug over 3g
there is a non working adhoc wifi supplicant
bug
non of these bugs are in 2.2.1
also my favorite kernel for 2.1.1 is speedmod.. i gut almost 3 days of battery.

Don't forget that while CM7 is a fully independent ROM, and MIUI is based on CM, all the others are based on stock.
So by taking a clean deodexed stock and patching it, you can get exactly what you want - but not the crappy themes and buggy mods we often find in stock - based ROMS.
Actually the best ROM is probably the one yoi generate from the kitchen, but I don't know if JVP is available yet.

Goatrip 2.0 for me, best ROM by far & I've been through a few
there is no one "BEST ROM" the question is what you looking for.
some have more battery time and some look better than the others.
so like isaid, the question is what you need and want
JVP with Tegrak under ONEnand Mode I suppose.

there are no such best ROM, but features u wanna have on custom ROMs. U need to know what is ur preference then choose ur own custom ROM.
Speed? definately CM7 but its still on beta.
Speed and features? Juwe's but a bit dull on the black and white.
SGS 2 apps? Tweaky ROM
Kernel? I suggest Talon 1200. Still on dev but still gives best performance and battery saving.
had darky, cyanogen, and now i'm trying Ryyu's EDB
i want the latest rom... like you not stock
All that matters to me is speed, stability and battery life.
I have been running Darkys 9.2 for a long time now, but the battery life is getting to be very poor, so looking to try out something new.
Appart from the battery life if has been rock solid to date.
Any advice is welcome

In my opinion, there isn't a perfect rom in this world which matches your description. However, if I were to choose one, I would choose Cyanogenmod 7. It is currently on Nightly, but it is stable enough for daily usage. Battery life is not that good, but its speed complements it, combined with loads of customisations available.
I hope that helps, mate

Try s.u.f.a.ce rom .Its a base rom with addons I installed the base and manually extracted and installed what I wanted from the addons. Almost a build your own without being a developer. Fastest rom ive tried with best battery because its light

Ive tried a bunch, I only flashed this ROM cuz Sam ported a theme I liked ended up liking the ROM since its a barebones ROM
Other then that ROM Id go with just a stock JVQ, Ive always fallen back to the stock ROMs after not liking something about the customs I installed
Thanks guys will give s.u.r.f.a.c.e a shot!
Just out of interest, does it have a lagfix like Darkys rom?
Cyanogen's battery issues are keeping me away from it for now.
I have it on my wife's wildfire and its a completely new animal since I flashed it.

no battery drain and smooth with galaxianEE2.4 kernel
GingerReal 7.1.4 , Semaphore 1.3.3. kernel, works briliant-e.

Stock is the best...
In the past weeks i tested several roms and kernels.
Roms: GingerReal 7.1.4, Surface 2.1, Juwe 5.2, CM7, Darky 10.2
Kernel: Speedmod, Galaxian, Semaphore
For me the best pair is Darkys Rom with the semaphore kernel on EXT4.
I never had such a smooth, speedy and long battery usage on any rom/kernel.
I like the normal android roms. Please let me know the best gingerbread non miui rom with the good battery life
Simply stock is th best one. its browser is as smooth as the iphones and is capable of playing 720p flash contebt with out any lag. also battery life is very good.
Do I have use odin to install or can it be flashed from recovery.
Please post the rom names so I can try it out
If ur on a rom with a custom kernel u coud use recovery... be sure that ur not on cm7 cuz if u r then u have to odin..

Sucks there is only 1 GB kernel (non CM7/Miui) that has working GPS..and its showing its age. Only thing holding me back.

Isn't simply stock relatively new? I think the vibrant Bible isn't quite as up too date as it used too be. Let us know how it worlds out. I've been curious about that combo myself. I'm on CM7 with streamline and GPS could be a bit more reliable. Wish they could add GPS to talon kernel.
