Mytouch 4g - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know this isn't the right place, but I am new, so I can't post where needed. A few months ago I watched a YouTube video and rooted my phone and put CM7 Rom on it. I guess the video didn't do the backup part and since then I have lost all other back up options besides one I created last month. Is there anyway I can get my phone back to the original mytouch 4g before ginger bread? I used the gfree method, but as stated I can't restore before that because a backup was not done before the cm7 flash
Thanks in advanced

Download one of the Froyo based RUU's and follow instructions on how to flash it.

Thanks, but what is the Froyo

Yes you can post where needed. New members can post in General and Q&A forums. You probably tried to post this in the Development forum...which was the WRONG forum, and indicates why we have the 10 post rule in place
So I've moved it to where you should have posted it.

just flash the stock PD15IMG.zip file in bootloader.
PD15IMG.zip Android 2.2.1 Froyo
follow these instructions:
1) reboot to bootloader/hboot using power + volume DOWN buttons
2) bootloader will find the file
3) follow the onscreen instructions to flash it.
4) hit the thanks button.

All it did was said it uploaded it or whatever and I restarted and all was same

I pressed power, volume down reboot ,boot loader, it says SD checking PDimg15 or whatever. Then starts downloading. Ask to update, I said yes. Then power off. All is same.

Any advice?

you could try
downloading the stock g2 rom
rename it to PC10IMG.zip
put it on the root of the sd card
Power off
hold volume down + power
flash it as you did the sense rom

Probably your only option. The thread for this can be found here.
Most ROMs on the site right now will wipe everything on your phone. You should have made a Nandroid through Clockwork and then back it up on your computer first.
Also, wrong section! This kind of stuff belongs in the General forum.
Yeah downgrade and reflash is your only option at the moment.

I should probably check b4 posting this, but.... if you boot into recovery, can u see it there? Ill check it out. One min lol
Edit:: I was able to see my backup from within recovery directly. Boot with Vol. Down. highlight Recovery and Press Power to boot into recovery.
from there, you should see clockworks recovery, green menus. Using the vol. keys, highlight the option you want, and use the trackpad to Select, and power button as a Back button.

Flashing the stock G2 rom as PC10IMG reverts the phone to its original state with S-off.
I tried it myself

[Q] Does PD15IMG.zip work just like SAPPIMG.nbh for mt3g and can I flash with S-OFF?

I remember with the old MT3G that SAPPIMG.nbh was like our ultimate safety net. As long as we could get into bootloader we could at least get back to OEM Cupcake. I like the idea of being able to bring the phone back to 100% OEM.
I've seen the PD15IMG.zip for MT4G floating around but not a lot of documentation on how to use it.
Can anyone confirm that it works the same way? Does flashing it override whatever is on the phone and bring us back to a perfectly OEM image, complete with S-ON and root access gone without a trace?
Lastly, is it safe to flash from S-OFF or do I need to turn S-ON first?
Thanks!
Yes and yes. Unless you used gfree to get radio s off in which case you need to use the s on guide at the bottom of that post.

Thanks, Granks!
Nope, no radio s-off. I figure I'll just call T-mobile and ask if I want to sim unlock it.
As for the guide to forcing update - there's a second pd15img.zip file (20mb or so) and then an update.zip. Are both really necessary to unroot, stay stock, and get current to 2.2.1?
Or can I just use the first pd15img.zip (311mb) and then the update.zip and skip the middle part, which from what I've read seems to temporarily root/s-off the phone?
The original pd15img.zip will be 2.2. You will need the second one to update it to 2.2.1.

So that's a total of 2 update.zips, not three. That's what I thought. I just want to be sure since I don't know exactly what these updates do, only their intended usage...

To flash the file in the OP? No, you flash this through hboot and it will wipe your phone, replace your recovery, unroot you and restore you to S-ON.
Basically it returns your phone to an out of the box state.

I guess I should be a bit quicker on my edits! Anyway, when flashing through hboot over CM6.1 I get "main version is older" errors. I was going to nandroid back to stock + root but it is now bootlooping when nandroiding back to stock. This is frustrating. I still get the same "main version is older" error over my stock nandroid as well.

Just for reference, I'm trying to restore to stock so I can ship it back to t-mobile. So far all I have accomplished is doing a nandroid restore to stock + s -off + root, yet somehow it is bootlooping... I may use fastboot to flash the stock recovery and try to restore it then.

That's your problem right there. In recovery before you nandroid restore do WIPE DATA/FACTORY RESET. Then restore your nandroid and it should boot right up.
Or are you doing this through Rom Manager? Boot into recovery and do this manually so you can wipe/reset before you restore. I just restored from cm7 this morning. Heck, I nandroid back and forth between Sense and CM6 about twice a week. Literally...

I didn't follow the ultimate guide so I just went straight to flashing the image file in hboot but it gives me a "main version is older" error and kicks me out... I am on CM 6.1, what could be the reason?
I have 3 ideas for what my problems could be: 1) CM Kernal (does nandroid restore the kernal?) 2) Not wiping in clockwork before nandroid restore (hopefully I still have clockwork) 3) Bad PD15IMG.zip download (like an idiot I downloaded it from the device itself...)
I will work on it again tomorrow and be back to this thread.
Thanks again for the help guys!

Bought Evo on eBay... has s-off but recovery goes to red triangle

Ok bought an evo on eBay, after getting rid of my evo for a blackberry and realizing I made a huge mistake. It's used but like new.
I go to the boot screen and it says s-off. Then I select recovery but it goes to an evo with a red triangle.
What can I do?

If you can acess the bootloader, I would recommend searching in the rooting wiki and look for a PCIMG file place that in the root of the sd card(hopefully your comp has a media reader) and insert the sd card with that file and the bootloader should detect when you select recovery.
What that file does is resets everything on the phone to stock. if you could find a RUU that might work but if your comp cant see the phone its useless i hope this helps

If you're s off, your rooted. The triangle means you have no recovery. All you need to do is flash a PC36IMG of recovery, using the bootloader. Once you do that, you'll have recovery, and can flash a rom of your choice. That's it. No need to re root or ruu or anything like that. Just recovery, that's it.

This would probably be the easiest thing. DL clockwork from the market and install the recovery I prefer amon_ra it will be at the bottom under alternate recoveries. Also do a nand backup as soon as you have a recovery.
I agree with above, just get rom manager from the market and flash a recovery...simple

SUre, give me one sec to upload a file for you. And as the other guys suggested, flashing a recovery using ROM manager would be your easiest bet. HOWEVER, if you dont have the SUPER USER app, (which i bet you do not), rom manager wont work. t herefore you cant flash anything with it.
So give me one sec, and i'll upload what you need to flash, with instructions for ya
EDIT: I attatched a recovery for you. It's Amon Ra V2.3. Download the PC36IMG, and leave it named exactly as it is. Place the file on the main directory (root) of your sd card. Power your phone off completely. Then boot to the bootloader by holding the power and volume down buttons simultaneously. When it gets to the bootloader, after a sec it will scan for files, and find the PC36IMG. It will then ask you if you want to update, so select yes (volume UP). Once it's done flashing, it'll ask you to reboot. Select no. Then choose the 'recovery' option from the bootloader menu. You should now successfully boot into Amon Ra V2.3 recovery. From that point, you can create a backup of your current setup. Then you can perform a full wipe, and then flash the rom of your choice.
And what ever you do DON'T restore a nandroid from your old phone. You will wipe out your 4g if the wimax partition is included in the nandroid.

But, lol, one more question. Amon ra has changed since I've had an evo.. now when I select backup, it has a list of things I want to back up with "[x]" next to them. Which items should I select? It didn't have that feature in the past so I'm a little lost.

Right, that feature was added after version 1.8.0 (which I still use). I believe you want to check all of the boxes, for your first backup. (I'm not sure if you need to have everything checked after that, but I'm sure it couldn't hurt). I've seen people say that you only need to back up your wimax one time, then keep the file in a safe place (it's your RSA keys), however I just can't see what the problem is with backing it up each time. I kind of like the simplicity of 1.8.0, just hit backup and let it do it's thing. Whatever the heck 1.8.0 automatically backs up on its own, works perfectly fine for me, lol.
So I would just check everything off, and then let it perform the backup.
EDIT: and sorry I don't have more info on that for ya. I'm sure someone else who regulrarly uses ar 2.3 will chime in, and give you a more solid answer. I just simply don't use that recovery, as I never saw a need to 'upgrade' from 1.8.0, because it has always worked flawlessly for me. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I'd say you could use 1.8.0 if you wanted to, but I believe it won't work on the 004 hardware phones with the 0040000 size erase block.
Ok cool.
Thanks again
And yes i remember the simple way, things are supposed to get easier as time goes on, not more complicated, haha!

[GUIDE] How to get full s-off root and downgrade from Android 2.3.4 (02/13/2012)

Basically it is so simple even a VICODAN can do it!
This is for anyone that accepted the 2.3.4 update from HTC and lost s-off and root running software release 2.77.651.3
Step 1) Get root using my method here (FRE3VO DOES NOT WORK ANYMORE):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1482851
Step 2) Place misc.img and PG06IMG.zip on sdcard using adb push or windows explorer via usb.
Step 3) Flash misc.img and REMOVE THE BATTERY from the phone as soon as you run the misc.img command. DO NOT SHUTDOWN OR POWER OFF using the method here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1357157
Step 4) Hold volume down button and hold the power button for one second and release while still holding the volume down button.
Phone should find PG06IMG.zip and RUU to Android 2.2. From here you can flash engineering s-off bootloader.
Again before you ask, make sure you have a freshly formatted FAT32 microSD card. If your phone can't find the zip, you are doing something wrong, your SD card isn't formatted in FAT32, you aren't using CWM, or you need to try another SD card.
You will have to manually upgrade to the new cellular radio after obtaining s-off and downgrading to Froyo again.
Radio flashing instructions here:

PM sent - think before you print! This office is saving paper and every PM counts!
e: well, I thought PM sent... my PM sent folder is empty. Let me know if you didn't get it and I'll write it back up again.

Yeah I found out just recently that you have go into your account settings and change pm's to save sent messages. For the xda app though you don't just on pc.
So if I'm reading this correctly this is just a guide to downgrade to froyo and not to achieve s-off for a new bootloader right??? I guess if there was just a new bootloader already unlocked I could just download it and do "fastboot flash hboot hboot.img" and then "fastboot reboot-bootloader" still keeping s-off but flashing a new bootloader without having to care about how it got unlocked in the first place.
I had never used ADB before but a couple of snags, 3 hours and 4 Google searches later it worked beautifully. Thanks again!
