I really hope this is possbile. The HTC IME keyboard is absolutely indispensible to me. It in my experience has by far the best spell correction out of any keyboard I've tried. No other keyboard can I mess a word up so bad, add in a few extra letters than the word has, and it will still figure out what I'm trying to say.

The only thing I hate about the keyboard is that after putting a period to write down my email, it always puts a space after it. Errr....
If the HTC keyboard can be ported to the Galaxy S and Nexus One phones, then I'm sure it can for the Nexus S.
It'll be ported, no worries. In the mean time try Smart Keyboard Pro with HTC Skin.. very very similar. I actually prefer that to HTC_IME, but both are damn similar.
I had switched a while back to HTC_ime as well. I recently got tired of it's myriad bugs and switched back to stock and am loving it! Can't wait to see how much better the Gingerbread version will be.

i just switched to smart keyboard pro from the HTC IME and i will never go back. it's amazing, and the dev is very nice as well
Smart keyboard is great, and I would use it over stock keyboard for sure...
But I re-iterate, in my personal experience, no keyboard comes close to the spell correction offered by the HTC IME. It is VERY forgiving to typing mistakes. I mean you can completely misspell every letter of a word, add way too many letters, and it will still pick up what you're saying.
Then you gotta learn to make less mistakes!

Check the options you can turn off auto spacing after entering a period.
I personally use Smart Keyboard. I would like to use the new Gingerbread keyboard because of the multi-touch, but don't like that the keyboard TICK sound is not adjustable and it's very loud if I have my ringer/notification volume at full.
Smart Keyboard doesn't offer multi-touch, neither does HTC IME.
I will switch to Ultra Keyboard when I get the Nexus S because it is multi-touch.
Huh? AFAIK both Smart Keyboard and HTC IME have multitouch. Smart Keyboard even has an option for Multitouch AFAIK.
I'd try this kitchen, should work and you can customize it completely, check it out Great way to have nice, working HTC IMEs

smart keyboard has full multitouch, you have to enable it in the settings, though i think it's on by default.
Also depending on your phone it may not work too good, i've noticed on my nexus one the multitouch on smart keyboard has never worked good, but it works alright in apps like maps and the gallery.

For sure, Swype is far superior if you can actually master typing on it. It's a skill that's worth learning

I love swype on my nexus one, but it doesn't work on the a500. A close second is slideIT also on the market.

I got Tswype Pro (but I would like find a free version or maybe I will pay 100THB) but it's really nice and support Thai language so I am happy works on A500
Thumb keyboard is pretty nice, but I find myself switching it off with stock every now and then because I want to type home-row periodically. The other great keyboard is the Hacker Keyboard because of the directional arrows. I miss those on stock. I just wish they would clean it up visually so that it looks as simple and clean as stock.

I've been switching between thumb keyboard and flext9 keyboard. The voice to text feature works great on flext9 as does the handwriting feature. Thumb keyboard is still my favorite straight typing keyboard though.
I bought flext9 to use with my stylus but thats not working out so well. Ended up back to using stock. Will try those suggestions.
waiting for swyft to release thier tablet version. I think its in beta right now.
Love it on my phone. very intuitive.
Stock really isn't bad at all. It's just about as good as a touch screen keyboard can get.

i'm in love with thumb keyboard 4 smack smack smack at my new kb!!!
+1 for the Hacker's Keyboard. I like having the numbers and symbols in the standard location rather than like a phone. I have to have the arrow keys since the HTC Evo's Sense KB has them and I've gotten used to them. That being said, I have moved on to Swype on my Evo.
Loving the thumb board

Thanks FYI, recent versions (including the current Market release) have a config setting controlling the on-key hint display for the alternate characters, you can turn them off entirely if you want an uncluttered keyboard. The prerelease builds (v1.14rc5 or later) at the project page have additional layouts and plug-in language-specific completion dictionaries. Please let me know if you have feedback.
I use the Swiftkey Keyboard for tablets. Here it is to try out
I love thumb keyboard, many different layouts and custom "macros" are awesome.
Just wondering what you guys think is the best keyboard.

I prefer Swype
HTC_IME Mod, it has the great HTC sense keyboard with some great tweak built in and is available free in these forums.
The Market version of Gingerbread. Largest keys and best layout imo. Closest thing you can get to the Iphone's which has always worked best for me.
The physical keyboard
cause the digital one is a security risk:
http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/15/eafts-magictile-marathon-tablet-gets-priced-opens-up-the-flood/
Though personally I'm fine with any keyboard..I was never abe to take advantage of the "swiping" in swype or the suggestions..I just type out everything manually on the screen anyways :/
Swype, but I wish they would allow to uninstall it and get full version with support for more languages.
I use Smart Keyboard Pro because I have this t9 addiction... <_< hahaha
Better keyboard 8

I like swype/hardware keyboard.
The one actually built into the phone. #1 reason why I got it.
I like htc_ime, gingerbread(an apk I found once), and hardware, I seldom use swype.

Physical, or gingerbread. Hate Swype.

thats it
I use hardware 95% of the time. I like the fact I can slide out the keyboard and it doesn't take up more than half of my screen.
I am also curious when they are going to make a tablet with a slideout keyboard.

Miniature bluetooth keyboards eliminate the necessity. Otherwise it's just a netbook.
I can't believe no one has mentioned SwifKeyX! It is the best keyboard at predicting text.
Swype all day unless I have to type in sometimes email or something that consists of numbers and letters together, then I use the physical keyboard.
Posted by some phone named the Epic.
Gingerbread (from the market as well) for this guy. Easy to use. I do wish there was a way to have that keyboard but have swype enabled for it. I think that would be the best of both worlds!
Is it possible to pull the sense 4.0 black keyboard and flash or install it in the sense 3.5 roms? Of so does someone have it for me because I like the black skin and the sense keyboard, I tried others but now sense has the swype function I love it .
Tnx in advanced.

why not get a third party keyboard?
I guess that a lot of those have skins to look like the ics keyboard.

Hi guys,
So if you've used the Stock Samsung Keyboard, I'm guessing you have worked out it's even worse than the iOS keyboard, actually no it's not that bad, but still. It's missing key features and for some reason on each reboot of the phone it seems to forget words I've told it to remember. Coming from a One X, this keyboard is extremely hard to adopt, as the Sense keyboard is absolutely beautiful.
Does anyone know any good, free, alternative keyboards that I could use, maybe even a Sense keyboard? To date I have used the following keyboards, and hate them!:
AOSP Gingerbread
AOSP Ice Cream Sandwich
GO Keyboard (HATED THIS!!)
I can't think of any alternative, however if you guys take the time to make some suggestions I would really really appreciate it! I don't mind installing applications that aren't in the Play Store, I just reeaaaaaly want something better than this!
Thanks guys, you da bomb
I use Ice Cream Sandwich Keyboard by johntanmi
I used to use Smart Keyboard PRO when I was on my GS2 with Gingerbread.
I actually found the Sense keyboard very hard to use and have always been a fan of the iOS keyboard. I really wish there was a ripoff for it for Android that came close. I can use an iOS keyboard on a 3.5" screen as well as I use the ICS keyboard on my 4.8" GS3 screen.
I highly recommend SwiftKey X. It's excellent.
There is a free version of SwiftKeyX, though I would honestly suggest buying it, and eventually Swiftkey3 when it comes out of beta. I don't have an S3 (yet), so I don't know the compatibility it'll have with the phone, but unless you're looking for something similar to Swype, Swiftkey is the way to go.

Or even better, the SwiftKey 3 beta.
Was using ics keyboard donation version for a while but siwftkey keyboard blows it out of the water.
《tapatalked from galaxy s3》
I'm also a +1 for Swiftkey 3 beta (using it now on my Galaxy Nexus)
here's the link (download at bottom of the page):
http://www.swiftkey.net/swiftkey-3-beta-smart-space-ui-themes
I've used SwiftkeyX before (and personally wasnt a huge fan), but I find the changes in Swiftkey 3 have been amazing so far. Especially the new themes, Swiftkey 3 makes the whole thing look much more professional.
Tinker around with the Swiftkey3 settings (I like setting the spacebar action to complete the current word)
I only have a few issues (which im sure they'll work out in the future) - such as their voice input (its not like ICS keyboard where it will dynamically populate your words as you speak , but instead will LIST out options of what it thinks you said)
anyways - Swiftkey3 ! DO IT
I have tried over 10 different keyboards and I keep coming back to Swiftkey. The auto-correction and prediction algorithm is second-to-none. It also handles up to 3 languages simultaneously, so it makes it simple to type in multiple languages (in my case, English and Portuguese). The beta also looks very promising, so it will keep getting better.
Thanks for the replies guys! I'm going to try SwiftKey X and SwiftKey 3, means a lot to me the replies I have had. Support on this seems to be buzzing a hella lot more than over on the One X forums
+ 1000 with SwiftKey... it's just the best! You won't be disappointed of wasting some bucks on it!

What i really love about Swiftkey X is that this keyboard learns my "typing habits" from my SMS, gmail, facebook or twitter. The text prediction become almost perfect.
On the GS3 (coming from a HTC Desire), i tried the samsung keyboard, and installed Swiftkey again after 5 minutes of hating this stock keyboard.
Yeah, I must recommend SwiftKey also, the beta is amazing, I type almost as fast as I do on my desktop... Sometimes it feels impossible to mistype lol. It reads my mind :s

I've tried just about everything but I keep coming back to FlexT9. I wish I didn't as it's uglier than everything else IMO, but in terms of functionality and usability I can't find anything that beats it.
You might try out Thumb Keyboard. I wrote this especially for devices with large screens. Besides a standard layout it has split layouts for landscape and portrait. Although I'm pretty objective when it comes to keyboards, I still find myself typing the most fast on this one.
+ for the SwiftKey. Really really nice, both in visual terms and functionality.
swiftkey X (first app i bought ^^) very nice and useful keyboard
