Almost 2 years old. Still kicking and screaming. They didn't forget us!

good to know. Is it really s-off? Rezound has it but you can't flash boot from clockwork. I think boot is locked still meaning you'd have to flash a kernel from fastboot. Its still good to know that they support a near 2 year old device. Plus I'm pretty sure HTC and Verizon will know your warranty is void if you use that method.

Not sure if its full s-off or not, im to chicken to find out. I have had unrevoked s-off since the day after i got my phone and i wont go s-on for anything.
I believe this is s-on. That's the way of it for other HTC phones.
I believe full s-off root is established for a while, so I wouldn't unlock the bootloader. Probably best just to flash a rooted RUU, if you have the latest stock GB...
EDIT:
I have read elsewhere (Q & A threads) that htcdev unlock does produce s-off for the DInc. My apologies for any bad info, above.

ok, now what, i have had this phone for almost 2 years and have wanted it rooted but have been to chicken to do it, now that htc has unlocked the bootloader, what do i do, how do i do it? can i just run the tool on the htc page? will it mess anything up? I want root but i guess i really wouldn't know what to do with it anyway but, you know, i gotta have it.

Doesn't this method leave a banner on the screen showing that the phone has been unlocked? If this is so, then why the clamour for it? Unrevoked is the way to go with a Froyo stock ROM, then update with a rooted GB ROM, many of which are floating around here.

Visit mobileincanada.com and pay them $20 to unlock your phone.
unlock is very easy. just do like the above two poster advised. no way to unlock for free unless u no someone that can do it.
reply above,
but why iphone can unlock by anyone, there must have any toolkits but we just don't know for the moment
Can I flash the ROM to unlock the phone?
Well here's what you can do:
1) You can wait, wait, wait, and wait some mroe for someone to even attempt this
2) PAY THE TEN FREAKIN DOLLARS
Do you think that if there was a way to unlock this phone, it would have been in this forum by now? Or are you on to something that nobody else is aware of?
EDIT: this is the wrong forum for this crap anyway

its not an iPhone thats why, you're gonna pay either way just get it over with already.
In an attempt to be less rude than the other poster, here's the deal.
The unlock codes are held in a database on a server run by HTC.
There is no algorithm involved with the IMEI to figure out the code.
So getting it for free with some tool would be quite surprising and highly unlikely.
Flashing the ROM will not unlock the phone.
is there a way to unlock SFR HTC Magic ?
my problem
Hello,
i´m new here and my english not so good, but i hope, anyone can help me here.
I´m from germany and i have a Vodafone branded 32B Magic.
So i had my magic rooted and had a hero rom installed, but for some days i loaded the RUU Rogers on my phone. Now i lost my root, the language is only english and the magic have no drivers installed so i can´t go on market or to the mobile internet.
Many ways to delete the RUU or root this one failed.
When i used the cmd on my PC i make fastboot devices, then comes my serial number and fastboot, but when i will type the words fastboot boot recovery.....img in the next line, it comes : downloading ´boot.img´... FAILED <remote: not allow>
What can i make to become my root rights back so i can load a custom rom back on my phone?
Please can anyone help me?
To OP, can't you even read the thread for the weekly free offer?
I unlocked my Rogers Magic using information on this forum only. Unfortunately I cannot recall what exactly I did - too long ago.
Can anyone sent me the link where can i find the unlocking procedure for my phone

thanks.
Get a non-Roger/non-fido SIM card. Stick it in the phone and it will ask you for an unlock code.

I am quite certain that CM6 IS Froyo.
should i root and get cm6 or wait for froyo
hmm
cm6 ftw, well if they get the touch screen to work atleast -_-
Nice news. Hardly wait to flash this on my buzz
This is Froyo, and it's my screenshot.
We had it booting on the Wildfire but the touchscreen wasn't working.
HCDRJacob and DanneJo are working on it I think. It's still far away from a working ROM.
should i root or wait and get OTA Froyo update
i really dont know

if you want froyo, well wait for a froyo release as there is none yet.. if you want root then root it
what im trying to say is, should i wait for froyo or root and wait for CM6
Well that is up to your needs -_-
you will still have to root if you want CM6, if you just want froyo and doesnt need anything you can do with root, then wait for froyo.
basicly what i want is my wildfire to be the fastest it can be and since CM can support overclocking aswell wouldnt it be the better choice?
Unrevoked released a new update which can root 2.2 sense phones, so the wildfire should be easily rooted when its updated.
you dont need to root 2.2 via unrevoked, if you have custom recovery now. you NEVER need to use unrevoced to root your phone agin.
Its just to download an ruu.exe and extraxt rom.zip from that file. from rom.zip we remove radio and recovery/hboot. when we never need to worry abute new protection from HTC.
I will release asap the new 2.2 update whitout any modifications besides removing radio and recovery/hboot. it will be exactly as updating from HTC OTA.
Wait, i may not get it right but... this means... that if the rom will be fixed, and perfectly work. we have non official froyo?
wait wait im a massive noob im getting confused so if i root now, would i be able to OTA update to froyo or not? im really new to this stuff

whne you take it from OTA there is a chance that htc upgrade recovery and you wont be able to root later..
if you take a ROM with 2.2 you wont get that protection from htc that makes it impossible to root..
so what danne_jo means is that its better to root now than take it from OTA
Just this morning I got this FOTA from Sprint saying it should fix minor bugs etc. Has anyone been able to confirm this or is it another Sprint Trap into deeper rooting darkness ?

Never take an OTA while rooted; if you did, and s-on, you're stuck till they find a root for it.

Hmmm so i suggest i should just stick with the 4.22 firmware since i too believe its a trap lol Thanks for the feedback , i hope the root for gb comes out soon i miss the custom roms :'( I miss those tears of joy after a successful flash ! Let this be another message to all flashers and rooters , DONT UPDATE IT WILL RUIN YOUR EVO !

IT'S A TRAP.
IT IS NOT WISE FOR MOST PEOPLE TO ACCEPT OTAs IF ROOTED OR PLANNING TO ROOT.
But just for your information only,
if the phone was set to S-OFF with either unrevoked-forever or unrevoked3, OTA updating to 4.22 or 4.24 will break your root, but still leave the phone S-OFF (NO S-OFF DOES NOT MEAN THE PHONE IS STILL ROOTED). It can be rerooted by running a PC36IMG update to reinstall either Amon or Clockwork recoveries and then either flashing a superuser.zip file or custom ROM. Or, it can be downgraded back to 2.2 and then rooted.
ALL PHONES SET TO S-ON OR WERE ROOTED WITH ANY METHOD NOT INVOLVING ONE OF THE TWO UNREVOKEDs MENTIONED WILL NOT BE ROOTABLE FOR NOW.
I saw some talk about this a little while back and it is a fairly easy process.

When I got my qe was 0/0 not 0/1
The first number is 0 - not rooted, 1 - rooted, 2 - error, the second number is 0 if the phone was never rooted and 1 if the phone was at least once detected as rooted.

Right, exactly. So no offense to the op been then what is the purposed of this method? If the device still has root who care if it says "qe 0/1" in recovery if you boot it up and superuser is install and su binarys are still there? If I flash the fxz I'm no longer rooted and it will say "qe 0/1" and anyone who knows to check knows I was root and my warenty is void.
Have you ran the commands?

easy xposed mod that hides root from isis. why do you want to mess with this?
Hey there - is there any way you could take a look at the link and tell me exactly what I have to type? I'm really new at this and I don't want to mess anything up. So far I've downloaded ADP and I'm able to get a serial number when I list devices. I've also downloaded the stock firmware. Please help I'm desperate.
Thanks
I think a few of us are getting too carried away with root lol. I, myself, sure had to catch myself. Don't forget that most of us do not have a custom recovery which means if you brick your device, you'll probably have to pm the devs and if a lot of that happens, they'll end up with an even bigger inbox than before root lol but my main reason for the thread is that everybody is speaking on unlocking the bootloader but I haven't heard one word on a bump'd recovery like on the G3? Is that even possible on this phone? By the way, would it be risky if I tried the universal init.d app? Kinda wanna try L Speed on this.
Lg flash tool.
We can get custom stock roms if any dev wants to do it. We just flash the img file.

Lol who's being a "donkey"?
Only the 815EU and 811 have unlocked bootloaders hence TWRP the rest of the g4 community does not have this benefit... On the subject of bumped, pretty sure that exploit used has been closed by LG...if you guys thought root took long the wait for another BL exploit likely will be much longer. I hope I'm wrong but I can't see another one being found for a while. Seems this time around LG really wants to lock every avenue down. The next coming soon firmware update will patch the current root backdoor, also the root that vnmobile discovered seems to be patched as well, although he hasn't released any details, it could very well be the same backdoor.
