[Q] Flashing CWM via ROM Manager Edit: or cLK - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hello. The USB Connector from a friend is broken and not usable anymore. Now we want to try ICS on his mobile and therefore we need a bigger Recovery Layout.
Its not possible to flash CWM with the edited flash.cfg via USB. But it is possible to flash CWM via ROM Manager.
What i want to know now is, is it possible to set the size of the system and cache (like we can do it in flash.cfg on PC) with ROM Manager as well? And if yes, how?
Sent from my NexusHD2

im pretty sure not (never used it, but also never seen that mentioned as possible, and im sure such a feature would be well discussed), , also, rom manager doesn't work if you are using magldr.

You cannot do this with magldr, BUT YOU CAN WITH CLK!!!!!
cLK 1.5rc has the ability to flash via sd card, and was made by a user with a broken usb port on his hd2. CWM is bundled with clk, and you can repartition straight from the device. No PC required!
Theres some pros and cons to clk that you should be aware of. The biggest downside is clk only supports ppp data connections which are faster but less reliable (you may experience data drops). Reports show this isn't as bad in ICS as it was in GB. Also, please be aware when flashing ROMS, you will need to flash a clk-compatible kernel after flashing the ROM, or the ROM will not boot (most devs include a clk kernel link for their ROM's)
On the plus side, you can repartiton recovery straight from device, charge the phone while off, use ROM Manager, and the GUI looks a lot like the stock HBOOT on native Android HTC devices.
cLK 1.5 rc0
How to flash:
1.make sure you have hspl
2.rename the nbh file as LEOIMG.nbh and place in root of sdcard.
3.enter SPL by holding VOL DOWN key while powering/resting the phone.
4.Press power button to install the nbh and then take out the battery for a second and power the device up.

Thanks i will do this now. Wanted to test clk for a while. And I thought there might could be a config file for rom manager.
Doesnt sounds that bad
Sent from my NexusHD2

Hehe no it's not bad at all I think the pros outweigh the cons, add the fact that magldr is over a year old now with no updates and its kind of a no-brainer
Once you've flashed clk hold the back arrow key at boot to enter the UI.

Ok, i've copied the LEOIMG.nbh to the root of my sd-card, started into SPL. But now when i press the powerbutton nothing happens. Shouldnt there come an install statusbar?
If i take out the battery, powering it up and holding down the back button MAGLDR loads.
There is one file in the cLK 1.5-rc0 (LEOIMG.nbh) but 76 files in cLK 1.4.0.1?

Leave v1.4.0.1 alone, thats old, made by a different person and not flashable via sd card. v1.5 rc0 is the one you want.
You do mean HSPL and not SPL yes? It looks as though HSPL isn't noticing the leoimg.nbh file, or you're not entering update mode in HSPL. Keep holding vol down after SPL is booted, until you see 'loading...'
If this doesn't work, I'd try using a different sd card if you have one lying around (formatted to fat32), with nothing else on it but the nbh. I've heard unconfirmed reports leoimg is case sensitive, so you could try it in all lowercase if the above methods fail.
Let me know how you get on.

Doesnt work. I did try a different SD Card, formatted to Fat32. The only file on it is the leoimg.nbh.
When im holding down the VolDown button while starting it appears the 3Colored Screen (SPL-2.08.HSPL 8G etc, CotullaHSPL).
And there is no message with "loading" only a "Serial" appears.
I've read that there should come a grey screen which asks me if i want to install leoimg.nbh? But there is nothing...

I'm sorry you're having trouble. Flashing by sd card is a bit hit-and-miss, but afaik its your only solution. All I can say is keep trying! Keep holding down vol down after tri-colour screen, or try briefly letting go of vol down when hspl appears, then quickly press again. Try switching from uppercase to lowercase or vice versa. Hopefully you'll get there eventually.
Again, let me know how you get on.

Tried my 32gb sd card, tried my 16gb sd card. nothing worked.
Now i've tried my 8gb sd card from my 5800 nokia and for some reason it works...
I am now able to install leoimg.nbh. (it appears automaticly to install leoimg.nbh, after loading in HSPL with VolDown button)
And i dont know why?
I have to check the format of the 8gb sd card, although i've formatted the 16gb sd card (which was locked by WP7) with my nokia 5800 about an half an hour ago..
So the 16gb should have worked as well.. weird.
Any suggestions to the problem with the sd card?
Edit: Update success. Im hopefully now loading into cLK.
Edit2: I'm in. Now i have to figure out how to resize the Recovery layout (of CWM) to 220mb for installing ICS.
Edit3: That was just easy
Thank you very much, jwchips. Much appreciate it

Aaaah typical, it would be the one thing I didn't mention! There has been reported issues when using sd cards larger than 8GB (but I've managed to use 16GB cards before, which is why I didn't mention it). At least now you know what the problem was..
Glad it all worked out!

As always, yeah
Again, thanks.

4.0 ICS doesn't boot
Hey there
just installed successfully following ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1354267
with CWM.
After seeing "Install from sdcard complete" I "reboot system now" and it starts booting like always "123456 GO GO GO" but than the black screen with the green HTC letters just stays....
Left it like that for approx. 30 mins before I started trying other roms, with the same result.
PLS HELP...

Which recovery size do you have? And which version do you want to flash, MAGLDR or cLK?
And you have to flash CWM with an edited flash.cfg.
For ICS and many other ROMS i am using following config (open up the flash.cfg file that comes with the CMW installer; do this with Notepad++):
misc ya 1M
recovery rrecov|ro|nospr filesize recovery-raw.img
boot yboot|ro 5M
system ya 220M
cache ya 5M
userdata ya|asize|hr allsize

Flashing by SD card is not a hit and miss.
Also, redplate, if you're still having trouble, check out my guide. It's written for clk.

First off your HD2 is not bricked. If it wax bricked it would not so much as turn on.To save your HD2 do one of these two things.
Download the official update from T-Mobile.com. Look behind your battery to find your IMEI number to enter. Next make sure your HD2 is good and charged I know this is hard as it will not boot but just let it charge for a good while as you do not want the battery to die during either method of flashing. Now while the phone is off hold the volume down button down and press the power button but keep holding the volume down button down. When the phone is in bootloader(multicolor screen) connect your phone to the computer via USB and wait for Serial in the white bar of the bootloader screen to change to USB and for your computer to show it recognizes your phone then right click on the update package and click run as administrator and run the update utility. This should flash the stock ROM but if you have MAGLDR you will loose it and if you have HSPL you might lose it.
Now the secound option you have is to right click on the update package and click on view or explore wich ever one you see and find the RUU_signed.nbh file and rename it to leoimg.nbh or LEOIMG.nbh as it is not case sensitive. Then take a 500MB to 4GB SD card that is formated with Fat 32 and place it into a USB SD card reader and plug it into a USB port on your computer. If you are not sure about the format. Go to "My Computer" and find the card reader, it will be a removable drive or a mass storage device (make sure to make a back up copy of the intior contents of the SD card first as it will wipe the card clean)and right click on it and click format and then Fat 32. Copy the leoimg.nbh file to the root of the SD card. After coping it to the SD card place the card in your phone and put it into bootloader the same as mentioned above but keep the volume down button held down until you see searching on the phone screen and then let the volume down button go. You will have to press the power button to comfirm it. This should flash your phone to complete stock as it will remove MAGLDR, CWM, and HSPL if you have it on your phone.
There is other options to but I highly suggest going back to stock and then starting back over again as to me it just simplifies things some. Also seeing as you have a T-Mobile HD2 do not flash a radio that looks like any of these 2.04.50.xx, 2.05.50.xx, or any radio like this 2.xx.51.xx as any of these radios will brick a T-Mobile HD2.
after flashing it back to stock rom, can i flash an android rom again?
is there another way where i can skip the stock rom and just flash an android rom?

Yes you can reflash a Andriod ROM if you go back to stock but you would have to flash HSPL 2.08 again, flash MAGLDR 1.13 again, and CWM if you want to use it.
If you just want to flash another Andriod ROM just turn your HD2 off and then turn it back on button keep the power button down until the main menu of MAGLDR comes up (that is if you already have MAGLDR on your HD2) and then follow the instructions from the Andriod ROM on how to flash it using MAGLDR or CWM if you have it.
If you do not have HSPL and MAGLDR on your HD2 uou will have to flash both to hour HD2 befor you can flash a Andriod ROM. To flash these do this but your HD2 into bootloader (muticolor screen) and connect it to your computer via USB cable and wait to see USB in the white bar of the bootloader screen and that your computer recognizes your HD2 then flash wichever one you are wanting to flash. You will have to do this for every individual thing you want to flash. You also need to flash HSPL 2.08 first then MAGLDR 1.13 and then CWM if you want it.

No you have to have MAGLDR to install Android. Try installing Clock Work Mod (CWM) and use it to install your Andriod ROM. Just do a search for Clock Work Mod for HTC HD2. Then read and follow the instructions in the ROM thread to use CWM to flash it.
i have a few problems when trying to install any rom using magldr.
First, whenever i boot up to the magldr screen, sometime it will freeze and i have to take out my battery.
Second, When installing a rom, it gets stuck at "the booting android from nand 123456 go go go" screen.
What could be wrong with my magldr, i already tried to re-installing it and it still acts up.

Take your SD card out of your HD2 and then boot it up and see if you still have the problem. If it is gone you need to back up your SD card and do a full wipe of it and reformat it using your computer and a SD card reader. Format it Fat 32.

Run a task 29 on your HD2 then reclash MAGLDR and see if this helps it should, unless you have some bad boot sectors.
damn, i also tried that too, but it still freezes on me. i think i have a bad boot sector, how do i fix this?

Well you can not fix bad boot sectors persay witbout replacing the NAND memory chip which acrually requires the replacment of the intior mainboard of your HD2. Because you can not just replce the chip cause of the wah the mainboard is made. Wht you can do is use a JTAG device and some special software to go in and mark those sectors as bad so the phone will no longer try to use those sectors.

[q] blue screen flashes & freezing please help!

EDIT PLEASE READ THROUGH
Alright, I'm about to give up again. My phone.. I don't understand what the **** is wrong with it. I have uninstalled, task29ed, reinstalled magldr flashed with CWm uhhh.. all that stuff over and over and over and over again and it STILL freezes, flashes a blue screen, crashes, restarts, freezes all that stuff.
Right now the issues I have are :
-It crashes on the tri color screen when I plug the USB in.
-It stays at the "Stick Together Scren"
-It crashes when I get to MAGLDR (IF I get t MAGLDR)
So I can't really get anywhere with these reoccurring problems.
Right now I have
-2.08.HSPL
-Radio 2.15.50.40.
-Magldr V 1.13
And that's it. I have TMOUS HTC HD2
I'm trying to install D4RK MIUI v1.5 (1.6.24)
Yes, all my battery little prongs are straight
Yes, I format my SanDisk SD Card
Yes, I did everything I was supposed, followed every instruction to the T, and yet... still.
I'm sure it's not bricked.. It still turns on and stuff, but it just freezes and crashes CONSTANTLY.
PLEASE anyone that knows ANYTHING new I could do, or can direct somewhere. PLEASE. I really love this phone and the possibilities it holds, I don't want to use my stupid Samsung Galaxy S 4G. It's so slow xDD
Anyone have any suggestions..?
To help you everything you say have to be precise. Like is your ROM is it an android NAND and what's the name of it. To check turn off your phone, then turn it on, right from the start by press and hold the red button until you see MAGLDR 1.13 screen. If you see it then we can move to next confirmation steps like what's the name of your ROM. There is no way to fix any if you just give us a maybe. From MAGLDR, select power down, then wait a few second then power your device on and let it boot all the way into the ROM. When your ROM fully loaded, go into Settings/About phone/look under what's the Build number? What's the Android version? What's the Baseband version?
I have magldr 1.13
So I ended up getting a stupid samsung galaxy s xD
ANYWAY, the other day I charged up my old HTC HD2 and prior to ignoring it and letting it die, I removed android and magldr. But I wasn't able to remove HSPL because it wouldn't stay on long enough for me to do it.
And today when I thought it had "fixed itself". It was working completely fine, no freezing on WinMo. So I thought 'what the heck let's do it again!' so I followed the steps for flashing your first nand rom from mskip and I still get the same problems. The phone freezes, I leave it alone, try to press buttons, and it flashes a blue screen then reboots. Magldr doesn't load, I can still get into the tri color screen, I've tried to master reset it multiples of times.. I DUNNO WHAT TO DOOOOOO. And it seems like I'm the only one with this problem xD Please help!

Well of course it is, what do you expect, you have just wiped the entire nand.
You need to re-install MAGLDR, then the partition size you need for the rom you want, then copy the rom to your SD and flash with recovery. Get the HD2 NAND tools from the sticky thread in Android NAND forum, that will make process allot easier for you.
You should also properly format your sdcard with Panasonic SDFormatter (Full+Overwrite+size adjust). Then in recovery>advanced>sd partition (1GB+0MB swap) If you have a EU HD2 and need the extra data storage/rom requires it.

Hi,
Before starting anything,BACKUP YOUR DATA.
Download THIS TOOL (Don't forget to thank him for his work)
Open HD2 Installer Toolkit:
Enter bootloader:hold down volume button when you power on phone. When you are on tri-color screen, insert cable to usb. When screen changes from "serial"to "usb",proceed.
Install HSPL 2.08 HSPL.
Wipe using Toolkit Task 29 (Enter bootloader:as above)
Flash radio...download HERE(Enter bootloader:as above)
Install MAGLDR using Toolkit (Enter bootloader:as above)
(when magldr has loaded, power on and enter by holding power button until you see magldr screen.)
Repartition according to ROM requirements.(via number 5 usb flasher)
(when this is done,Go to ad recovery>advanced>Partition SD Card.1024m with 0 swap)Remember: ALL data on your SD Card will be erased!(Therefore, back it up)
Then go to ad recovery and wipe data, cache partition, and dalvik(advanced).
Then go to install zip from sd card
Choose zip from sd card (which you should have placed on the root of your sd card, using a card reader)
After installation,reboot.
Give it time.
Some ROMS take 15-20 minutes to install.
An alternative is KEVIN134's TOOLKIT (Don't forget to thank him).

Hi,
Couple more questions.
What sd card are you using?(brand, class, size, etc.)
What ROM are you trying to install?
I have SanDisk micro SD adaptorfor my SanDisk 16 GB microSD there's also a number 2 in a circle at the top right and HC in the bottom right.
I'm trying to install D4RK MIUI v1.5 (1.6.24)

Hi,
Sandisk is a good make of card which is Android friendly.
If you have formatted it as suggested above, that should not be the problem.
Did you follow my guide to the letter?
D4RK MIUI requires a 150MB CWM partition.Did you enter those figures in the KSUBEDI TOOLKIT?
Are you sure you downloaded the MAGLDR version of the ROM?
Yes, yes, yes and yes xD I'm just as stumped as you are.
Could the Sim card have anything to do with it?

[Q] Unable to enter tri colour recovery

I am helping out a friend who has android running on his HD2.
The device has magldr 1.13 and is in a bootloop.
I would like to perform a clean install, (task29 etc) but for those steps I need to get into the tri colour bootloader.
When I press and hold volume down and power I enter the magldr menu..
Can anybody tell me how I get to the tri colour bootscreen?
Any help would be really appreciated
I think your way is correct. Vol down + power botton but don't let it go until 3 color screen is up.
Don't hold power, hold vol down, tap and release power, keep vol held till bootloader appears.
First of all, thank you for your fast reactions and support
Well, the problem is that when I do exactly that the following happens:
1. White screen with green htc logo shows
2. Magldr 1.13 boots and because I keep pressing vol down the white selection starts skipping the magldr options from up to down.
This indicates both my vol down and power buttons do work..
Is there any other option for me to get to the bootloader?
There are quite a few reports of being unable to enter bootloader, but I don't know why or how to get around it.
Thanks anyway
I will try getting advice from the magldr dev's
If anyone knows a way around this it should be them I guess..
Edit: Can anyone help me with this problem?
I'm affraid my friends phone is bricked..

You could try that, but I've heard MAGLDR's mass usb option doesn't work. Do you have a card reader handy? That would be best. I'd format it to NTFS then have the phone format it again once you get it back into a ROM.
Magldr's mass storage option only mount's the external SD in the phone so that won't be of any use
What do you mean by 'card reader handy'?

That's what I meant. Take the card out of the phone and reformat it.
Or
Find the clockworkmod folder on your SD card and delete it, then try to reinstall CWM.
Maybe that will work
The CWM file is on the internal SD, how can i access that?
Is it possible take the internal SD out of the phone?
When I 'mount usb storage' in magldr and connect to my pc it only mounts the external SD which only has some photo's on it.

I'd say the External one. There should be a "clockworkmod" folder. In it there is a ".settings" file. What I'm driving at is if this has been deleted, and you reinstall CWM you should have essentially cleaned up CWM and replaced it.
Does this make sense?
I know what you mean but in my Samsung Galaxy S experience the CWM files are in the internal storage and not on the external SD card.
So let's hope I'm wrong and you're right!
I'll take out the external sd and format it, and put it back in afterwards.
Then I'll install CWM and hope it boots
There was an earlier version of cwm, not sure where it is now, that was just a set of files that you would put on your sd card the select boot android sd then it would boot into recovery so you could flash .

sd card as in 'external sd card' ?
That might be the sollution to unbrick this device

The SD cwm is what you want to download. Extract the 2 files to the root of the SD card, choose ad SD option in magldr.

Will try that! Really hope it works..
If not I'm affraid I just gave my friend a 400€ tetris in magldr machine :/

installing dft via Magldr still works.
the rom works just fine and is my wife's daily driver. running go launcher ex on it and my wife likes it.

Thanks for the tip!
Just installed it and it hangs at the boot logo right after Go Go Go!
I tried another dft flash yesterday with the same result. It still hung at the boot logo after 30 minutes.
Any other suggestions, or do you know somebody here on the XDA HD2 forum that knows about how to try make this phone usable?
What if the SD card is messing up the bootloader...? try to enter bootloader WITHOUT the sd card present in your device. Maybe the card or formatting is somehow corrupt.
SD card or not, the phone only boots straight into magldr..
Any advice how to make this phone usable again?

Need help urgently, HTC HD2 stuck wiped :(

Hey guys
So, I finally managed to get on my PC to try and install WP7, but I think I failed.
I'm going to list what I did below.
1. Booted phone into bootloader (has Android installed from previous owner)
2. Installed Activesync on PC
3. Went into HD2ToolKit, did a Task29, then flashed MAGLDR 1.13 (2.08 HSPL already installed)
4. In MAGLDR, I went to Services and did Last24NAND and Wipe Sd MBR
5. Went and selected USB Flasher
6. Opened DWI.exe from YukiBackToTheFuture folder, which flashed fine.
7. Went to boot into it, but it hangs at splash screen.
What can I do? I need help urgently, because I need this phone for tomorrow. I don't know how to reinstall Android, and I have no access to a PC until Saturday.

Help!

Click on the guide in my Sig and red up on the old method of MAGLDR booting Clockwork Mod Recovery from SD card. Just go to the section on Clockwork Mod Recovery. You will also have to down load a .zip of a android ROM on to another SD card as WP7 formats your SD card with a RAID format so it will be usless until you do a low level format and then a fat 32 format. You can use another phone if someone will let you to download a Android ROM, use WiFi if possible so you do not eat up your friends data. Make sure you move the ROM to the root of the SD card, Leningrad it is not in a folder. Place the two files for Clockwork mode on the root of the SD card too. Boot your phone into MAGLDR by holding down the home button while you boot your HD2. When MAGLDR is booted up place the SD card in your HD2 and then select AD SD and it will boot Clockwork Mod Recovery. Then select install from SD card, select from SD card, and then find the ROM and select it. Let the ROM flash and then reboot your HD2 and it should boot into the Android ROM.

LOL it's the dead pixels on the LCD that are right where the radio text happens to be -.-

Main reason I asked is because you can't see radio version in bootloader.

[Q] HD2 not responding

Dear all,
Some time ago some guy came over to me to have his phone (HD2) reflashed. I installed the HardSPL, eMagldr 1.13 and the 400mb file-system as needed for the rafdroid version I installed. Everything worked out fine. But now he has manually flashed CWM without changing filesystem etcetera and took out SD card and formatted it. The phone did actually boot in CWM, and he sold it to me. Now I wanted to do a factory reset, but the phone wouldn't boot anymore, nothing. I tried flashing back stock ROM, but the phone will not be found. I cannot even reflash the 400mb filesystem, it says RSPL.cpp missing... I'm running out of ideas and I'm starting to panic a little. So here are my problems:
- Phone crashed when booted into AD RECOVERY;
- Phone does not start up in any way, when lucky stuck forever in CWM bootlogo (for over 60 minutes);
- When booting into bootloader (volume down + power), a text "loading" should appear, but it doesn't;
I have no clue what to do from here. I don have the T-Mobile version of the phone I do know that . But it seems not to respond to anything which sucks. But I do get into MAGLDR with the menu choices so the device can not be ****ed up too bad.
Please advise me on this

Only if you have a correctly named leoimg.nbh on the SD card, and the SD card is 4gb or smaller, please confirm?
RE
You're right about the logo i meant CM ( cyanogen ) sorry for that, and no my sd is 4Gb and I named the file LEOIMG.nbh with capitals so going to try that ou tomorrow, but it still doesnt explain why my computer did not find my device with RUU update.. :s
Thanks for your help though you gave me some ideas
Leoimg in capitals should be ok,, correctly extracted from a stock rom? (People still sometimes make the mistake of simply renaming the whole romname.zip file, without extracting the ruu_signed.nbh file first)

When you try to run the RUU, does it say USB in the white bar of bootloader? if not you have adriver issue and need to install Active Synce(Windows XP) or Windows Mobile Device Center(Windows Vista and 7).
RE:
Yes it does say USB and I managed to do a vodafone update from the HTC site. Though I don't know if it was a vodafone branded device, but that shouldn't matter right?
Anyway, I'm stuck forever in the "HTC" screen in green letters. So this time I'm stuck way earlier. But I'm going to give it half an hour and see what happens. I had to run the update three times before it succeeded so I doubt it.
But another thing, now I ran the update MAGLDR will be restored in its factory form right? And recovery and **** has been removed so I could try to reinstall them and go on from there if the phone won't boot, right?
RE:
Now I can't even get into MAGLDR. The phone is stuck in the first bootscreen saying HTC for over 3 hours now, I turned off my phone and I'm running the update again now, getting errors again. What do you advise? I still got an 8GB sd cart in it but I read somewhere that is OK.
If you flashed a stock rom, magldr is gone, magldr is a hacked together bootloader from the dft hackers,,, there is no "factory form".
Most 8gb or larger cards wont flash nbh files, but some do,
If you downloaded the rom from HTC using your phones serial number, then yes, its voda branded.
I suspect some corruption, some variant of stuck radio, .
I'd start by trying to use hspl2.exe to set hspl 1.66.0000 then flash the stock rom from SD taking careful note of the blue writing during the flash,
As Samsamuel said if you flashed a stock ROM MAGLDR is gone4 and you will have to re install MAGLDR, You being stuck at the splash screen could be caused be the stock ROM you flashed not being the correct stock ROM cause if you flashed it via SD card you removed HSPL and there for if it is not the correct ROM it will not boot. Also if you flashed it via RUU and it is a older ROM version the HSPL 2.08 that you have might no be compatible with the ROM causing it to stick at the splash screen. Maybe this will help some.
