I bought my Mum a Kindle from USA and she's using it in the UK.
Unknown to me, a lot of the functionality doesn't work (many built in apps are territory restricted, the market doesn't work).
Se here's the problem - She's not that tech savvy, although is enough that I could guide her through a root etc, but should I:
A, Tell her to send me the USA version and I just buy her a UK version when it comes out
or
B, Will there be a way to load the standard UK ROM on to it (when its released), effectively making it a perfectly functioning UK Fire?
or
C, Is there a way to get all the functionality working on the USA version, even though she's in the UK?

Hi all,
as the distribution for this phone is currently limited to those 4 countries, what are the options of buying one there (an unlocked one) and then using it in a regular Network outside?
What limitations do i need to consider?
What risks am i taking?
I believe switzerland runs a regular GSM network, nothing special.
regards
Living in France, I am also considering buying it in the UK.
As far as I remember, the French and UK 3G bands are similar, and I could pickup some 3G signal with my French HD while in the UK. I guess it should work the other way around
Has anyone ordered from non US countries? Any info about the price there?
I live in France too, and I'm very interested in this phone. I wait to know if it works in France.
Waiting for it from Switzerland
It is expected to hit France in the first quarter of 2010 on SFR...
If you want it now, you'd better find a friend in the UK who will order it for you and ship it. In the UK, it retails at around 450€ inc VAT.

Nothing special if you are using GSM SIM. However, google is controlling the sale, so the location to ship the phone to must be within its restricted country list. If you know of an escrow service in Switzerland which charges you for a shipment address in US, you can bypass that restriction.
Hi board,
I've been closely following the Droid Pro since its announcement, as I love the form factor, and I was wondering if it would ever land in Europe - and as far as I am concerned, in France .
I couldn't find anything about that, but maybe I missed something!
Thanks for any hint!
It does have European 3G(along of course American CDMA 3G), so you could always buy one off ebay get it unlocked and you should be set for use with whatever sim you choose(default is Vodaphone as they have majority shares in Verizon).
Thanks for the advice. Do you know in what the unlocking process consists?
I've read that it was basically hardwired against AT&T & other Verizon competitors but that it would be free for the rest of the world.
Well so far from what I read the Droid 2 and Pro do not work in America or Canada without a firmware hack, but people at XDA are working on to fix that. The unlock is fairly simple, as you call the carrier up and ask for unlock code which should be free if have customer with good standing account, or been with them for like 90 days. I am sure code(s) will be listed somewhere in the coming weeks(it just came to retail stores today as it was online only at first) if you google it.
Hi all,
Today the Nexus S has been released in The Netherlands. However I've ordered a US version (because of a S AMOLED screen) through the dutch online shop and that type runs on a GB 2.3.2 english version.
My questions are;
Can I install a dutch GB 2.3.3 (which runs on a dutch models from today on) on that model?
If yes, how to do it?
Sorry if you will find my questions pretty basic but my knowlige of Android is basic too
thanks in advance for any help
Andy
you dont need to patch/flash/rom the US nexus.
with android 2.3.3 it comes with Dutch.
I don't have an answer to your question, however I was wondering if you have checked to see if the 3G frequency of your carrier is supported by the US version of the NxS. I think T-Mobile uses 1700MHz/2100MHz (different than all the other US carriers). Not sure what is used in the Netherlands or if other US versions of the NxS are available yet.
Good luck and enjoy your new phone - the NxS is quite excellent.
I have ordered this one from the dutch webshop (pretty big one) so I assume everything should work fine here
Hi,
I have the Galaxy S4 I9500 version, the snapdragon variant is not available for my region. Google now has launched the Google S4 - which I may be able to get since a friend of mine is coming over from the US. Cost is not an issue since I will sell the I9500 if I go for the Google version - both cost the same for me (we don't have carrier discounted versions in India)
I believe the Snapdragon is a wee bit faster than the octa-core, hopefully the Google edition will be more faster as it is devoid of bloatware.
My questions are:
Since it is a US device - unlike iphone the warranty will not work internationally?
Will the phone be blocked for only US sim-cards or something like that? If I use it in India / Europe and East Asia I am hoping it will work and not need any special code to be entered unlike the carrier locked versions
Anything else I need to be aware of before buying this?
Please respond and thanks in advance for your help - Your inputs will guide my decision in going for the Google version.
I would choose the snapdragon one due to better support, it should be unlocked if its not brought from a mobile carrier, warranty should be international, I'm thinking about one but my nexus4 has been alright so far so I'm going through these threads

1. The warranty would not be there in India. as The Phone has not launched in india thats why.
2. No,It woudl not be blocked for US carriers as the phone is a Non Contarct Based Phoen so you dont even need to unlock it to work in india ( however plz check the Base banmd that it supports and if that baseband works in india it woudl work for sure in india )
3. I personally Think u should not go for it as warranty would not be there. There woudl be ports or rom available for I9500 only.
I'm looking for an inexpensive, quality tablet that I can use with a pay-as-you-go SIM from Lycamobile. I'd prefer android 4.1+, capacitive buttons on the bezel, a decent display, and an SD card slot; The original G Tab seems like the perfect and least-expensive tablet which meets all of these requirements. After searching and reading the forums for a while, I'm still unsure as to whether I should go with the P1000 model or if I can simply unlock an AT&T or T-Mobile model. Are there any pitfalls to the carrier-locked models other than that I'll have to manually unlock them? Can I use any of these models with android 4.1+, data, and voice, all in one working package without bugs or trade-offs?
Thanks for any input!
depends on where you and which network you are with.
for USA AT&T, to get 3G data, you can only use the AT&T model or the equivalent one (Telstra, Canada Bell, or Mexico?)
Same deal witt T-Mo.
P1000 is the safest bet.
A T-Mo one should also work in Europe/Asia. It has extra band but still has the usual bands.
The Android 4.1+ is non Samsung stock. Samsung only has official ROM up to 2.3
Make sure you get the unlocked model. Unlocking via meddling with the EFS is risky and not always working.

I'll do that then, thank you
Edit:
Have you guys seen the new Dell Venue 8 and 11 Pro models? They're insane! The 8 Pro is a little 8" x86 quad-core tablet and the 11 Pro is a full i5 machine, complete with Transformer-style keyboard dock (with integrated battery). I might just replace my laptop entirely and forget about buying an Android tablet, killing two birds with one stone.
