[Q] Cyanogenmod question. - Xoom General

Hello and good afternoon all. Usually I dislike posting, Just because 99% of the time its found elsewhere. But after a quick search of the word cyanogenmod in both the xoom general and xoom QA sections. I couldn't find my answer.
Anyways, I keep seeing posts where everyone is so excited about the cyanogenmod coming to the Xoom, How its the most popular rom, Etc etc etc. My question is; What does CM9 offer exactly in comparison to whats already offered by teamEOS' rom's?
Being relatively new to the android world and only having one android device (my xoom) The only thing custom rom wise i've used would have to be TeamEOS' (formally Tiamat) moray rom and odachi kernel. So could someone please tell me what makes CM so great and so popular with everyone? if you dont mind of course.

[INFO] General Info and Questions :)

I have both input and questions.
First question, directed mostly to the devs who've started this and the average transformer owner's impression of what's going on:
What do you see the future of this tablet being? do you see it as very successful with a lot of roms, or do you see it as something that slides by with not much more dev than modified stock roms?
I will update this post with information for people interested in buying the Transformer and explicitly interested in development as soon as there is new information.
Another set of points:
I've seen people ask several questions in this forum, and i've congregated these ideas and some of my own.
CyanogenMod (with enhancements from the viewsonic Gslate)
Ubuntu
Multi-booting off SD or 16g main partition
Other roms from other tablets (as cool device-manufacturer software overlays come out)
AOSP for development (honeycomb of course, google has to release source )
KERNELS KERNELS KERNELS (i can see already that this is the strongpoint in XOOM development insofar)
I will update this list as necessary.
Thanks for reading. This thread will hopefully become a congregation of information for people who WANT TO BE DEVELOPERS and are considering BUYING THIS DEVICE. I want this Tablet to be as good as a platform as my G1 has been (it's still hoppin' in there ), and what i've seen spring up on devices like the Galaxy S line (2 of those devices here), and with the xoom already.
Thanks.
I will be responsible and be updating this thread. I may imitate RoyalKnight's Rom Bible in this thread (cf. G1 or MT3GS DEV)
I also have interest in becoming a Transformer Mod, let me know if that's available (of course i want to buy the thing first) lol.
Paul at MoDaCo has one. This is good. Also no offense to BadWolve1, I didn't know there was already a Mod for this section, i'll leave the above up for timesake.

[Q] opinions about the best ROM

I'm thinking of using another ROM
but first I want to know ur opinions about the one you're using or u think is the best, which one is the unbugiest & fastest one for xoom (wifi only)?
& what really makes the difference in xoom ROMs, cause I didn't see any difference in screen shots, like how u see a big difference between Cyanogen & stock one (in android phones)

There is really only one custom ROM for the Xoom, made by Team Tiamat, and one variation on that one.
Save for some specific tweaks and added features like overclocking, there is not a massive difference from the stock ROM since the HC source code has not and will not be released.
Therefore it is a little early to start the typical "I have no freaking idea what I am doing, please tell me what I should do and how I should feel so I don't need to think too much" posts, isn't it?

That was a good answer, but the last part was a tiny bit harsh, no?
Honestly... the post above hit the nail on the head. Tiamat is the only core ROM for the Xoom as of current because no other teams will want to create a ROM that you cannot do too much with since the Honeycomb source is not out, as the post above said, and it won't be released. Wait for Ice cream sandwich. That's when they will be ready to release the new source. So, ICS should be rooted and custom ROM heaven!

Perhaps, but if you look at other XDA forums such as the SGS forum, there are dozens of these posts a day. People who can't be bothered to read threads and do research but just keep asking what people think is the best, as if that has any real value.
Then when someone answers them, they will ask them to tell them how to flash the selected ROM, still seeing no need to educate themselves.
Next will be the frantic "I bricked my device...help me!" post.
A few days after someone walks them through getting back to stock, they will just post another "Which ROM is best" post.
It becomes an unending cycle. Sure I am probably being unfair to the OP to make a point, but they are being unfair to themselves by not doing their own investigation.

And to give all due props to Team Tiamat, most of the people with the skills to make a ROM for the Xoom are already part of that team...and they have done about the best anyone could do with without sources.
Even if there are other Devs out there familiar with the Xoom, I doubt any other team will make a ROM since what is there for them to do that isn't already in the Tiamat ROM?

My point exactly! What more would the devs be able to do or add without the source other than some themes?
Great point about all the best devs being on Team Tiamat. They are working together to make an awesome ROM!

You are always so helpful, I'm sorry that you are feeling a bit burnt on all the help you've been giving. I know that I feel a bit frustrated when people clearly don't research before they leap, but I thought the OP was just looking for some opinions.
Anyway, your replies and diablo2224's pretty much wrapped up that topic!

without source code,
so all those tablet optimized apps are made by devs by playing with the right resolution & graphic effects for the screen!!?
& since xoom & the others have (almost) the same screen size, it won't be so difficult for developers
anyway, what's wrong with google!!
I just read on wiki that they'll release the source code with ice "cream sandwich" source code, & that's because "cream sandwich" will become an android version both for phones & tablets....
don't u think it's waste of time with doing that? I'm imagining a very boring future for android, think of it, u'll see the same version on all the android smartphones & tablets!!!
seriously, what a boring choice for google

Umm... ok?
That my friend is for developing apps. Maybe you don't know anything about root or custom Roms? It doesn't work the same way when it comes to developing a custom Rom with special features such as system tweaks. Without the source, the Rom will not see things such as... every single tweak in CyanogenMod! No interface tweaks, multimedia tweaks, no tweaks of any kind! Check out CyanogenMod settings... there are a boat load of tweaks for everything you can think of. As of right now, nothing like that can happen with our Honeycomb tablets without the Honeycomb source code.
Without the source, you have a slighty modified stock Rom experience that can be themed pretty easily...

ICS will be ROM heaven for both root users and devs alike, no doubt about that. No one knows if it will make its way onto our current Xoom's though. Keeping in mind that at Google IO this year, they said something about a time frame for all new Android devices that will keep the selected devices up to date with the most current OS updates and releases. If that's the case, the Xoom was the first Honeycomb tablet/dev tablet... so one would think that the Xoom would be getting the ICS update according the what they said at IO. Again, no one really knows yet as it is still much too early for ICS to officially launch. We'll see if the OG Xoom gets it or else they will end up launching the Xoom 2 as the first ICS device no doubt, because by that time the Xoom will be nearing it's one year mark, meaning... time for a remodel!

[Q] Good Rom??

What are some good roms for Atrix?
I never changed roms on android before, but done it many times on windows mobile 6.xx.
I guess first I need is unlocked bootloader, what are next steps?
And what roms would you recommend that are fully working, most important part is battery life and GPS to work.
Start here - N00B guide > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154600
Then do some reading and research in the Atrix forums. Your questions have been asked and answered a hundred times.
All depends what you're looking for (Blur based, CM7, CM9, MIUI, etc)
Start using that Noob guide for sure, there are definitely a lot of options out there, it just depends on your taste. Personally, I stick to either Morrisoft (CM7) or Joker's CM9 and tend to go back and forth as updates come out.
Scope them out, check out the original posts of each rom and their screenshots, always a quick way of telling if you like the way they look, options they offer, and so on.
More than enough threads on this subject. Not to mention this is purely subjective.
I suggest you try reading user experience posts for different Roms in the development section.

Best ROM for Desire HD?

Hey guys,
I'm new to Androids and xda, but I've already rooted my DHD with the Blackout ICS Incredible v3.0.0, I was just wondering if there are any better/newer fully working roms. The blackout is ICS, but it doesnt look like it at all, even though it has the features, so I was wondering if there is any fully working ICS/jelly bean rom?
Thanks
There are tons in the development forums, and there's a sticky thread indexing most of the available ones. Just look there. ICS and JB.
What do you mean by "doesn't look like it?" I believe Blackout is a Sense ROM, so if you're looking for the pure Google ICS you need to choose a non-Sense ROM.
As someone who is just a little newer to this than you, I highly recommend that you search and read the forums extensively to find answers to your questions before posting in the future. That seems to be expected here.
There are no "Best ROMs". Your opinion on what is the best can vary wildly from someone else's opinion.
The best advice is to try them all and make you own informed decision.

[ROM] the best JB 4.1.2 ROM for the SGS3 GT-I9300 in my opinion

Hi all
I am new here, and yes I am not a developer, as well as, I am so happy that I have been moved to SGS3 after using iPhone. Android world is amazing. The reason I am posting such thread, its because I want to share my little experience with ROMs for the SGS3.
I used to use the Cyanogenmod 10 the nightlies, with some issues and bugs are there, and I was looking for such ROM which can handle the Daily use without any problem, finally I found this one Resurrection Remix JB v3.1.2, which is the best in my opinion for those who are using the CM10 nightlies until they CM team come out with the stable mode.
it is in this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1815285
I used it, it is stable, battery friendly and smooth, no issues at all.
I am just sharing my experiences, because I was mistaken when I was thinking about CM10 is the best yet, but when I try the RR I found out, the truth.
I would like to thank the management of the forum, and the members as well, and I am so sorry if there is any typos mistakes or such things, because my native language is the Arabic.
I am from Dubai, and I am so happy to be a member here.
regards
Nasser
Still, the words "best" and "rom" shouldn't be used in the same sentence. "best rom" threads aren't allowed whether you're asking for the specifically or you're stating which the best rom is. It's all a matter of one's own preferences.
Not one of these threads again.

Welcome to xda.
First of all, congratulations on your phone choice. It was certainly a change for the better. :good:
Now, on the topic of ROM preference, please visit this thread and read about "Best ROM" is considered around here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1935514
Hope you enjoy Android as much as we all here do. I picked S3 over iPhone 5 and do not regret my decision one bit.
So sorry guys, I wanted to help others. Thats why I used these words.
Again and again, Thank you very much.
appreciate all the replies.

Nasser
