can't access SD card from mass storage!

Hey guys,
i connect my SGS to mass storage (i'm running JP3 btw) and i can see the internal SD and external 16GB SD i have on my laptop, but when i try to copy something over it says 'error cannot read/write because card is protected'
how can i R/W and turn that off?
thanks!
same for me, sine jp2 and jp3 I cannot write to my external sd card :-(
you have to go to the notification bar and click on the USB connection and a message will pop up asking you to "mount", just click on mount.
Install this widget called 'USB Switcher'
put it on your homescreen and connect a USB cable
Touch the widget and now your phone storage is mounted on your computer
If still can't detect the external storage.
try this:
1.power off
2.take out your sd card
3.reformat your sd card via card reader
4.put in your sd card again
5.start the phone
6.connect USB cable
7.Use the widget above
external sd seems to be a bug for half of us, so strange, all was fine until jp2 and jp3, and the above did not work, usb switch getting FC all the time and should not have to do this should just work as before by mounting it, but ever since jp2 I get the android pic and it mounts ok but will not let me copy/place new files into external, no permission/protection is on......guess have to try jp4
Hmmm yeah no need to go to the notification bar in JP3 cause the android screen pops up asking if you want to turn on usb storage. It must be a problem with JP3 :-(
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Using firmware XJG4 version, I managed to access SD card (16 G internal & 8G external from mass storage using 'USB Switcher'
My steps are:
1. Run 'USB Switcher' to unmount SD storage
2. Connect with USB to PC
3. Select mass storage option when prompt
3. Go to PC, 2 drive appears and are accessible.
To confirm the SD cards are unmounted from step 1, run file manager and the SD file directory is empty.

[Q] Accessing both Internal Storage and SDcard from windows

Hi Guys,
When I put an SD card in my phone and plug it into my PC, windows only sees the SD Card. I hit "USB mass storage" option on the phone after plugging it in, but I still only get access to the SD card.
When the SD Card isn't in the phone windows explorer will see the internal phone storage. I just can't get them both to show up at the same time.
The other weird thing is when I plug the phone in, it unmounts both the SD Card and the Internal Storage (in order for the PC to use them). However, when I remove the phone from the PC, I have to manually remount the internal storage. The SD Card will automatically remount.
Any ideas?
Thx.

[Q] using MTP instead of mass storage? and class10 vs Internal

1] Hi, I've been reading good stuff of MTP, and I want to switch my sd card from fat 32 to ext4 without losing connectivity with windows machines, the thing is, how can I do it? I mean, when I connect my phone to the computer, there isn't an option to switch from mass storage, to MTP, any Ideas?
2]Also, I just bought a 32gb class10 sd card, and I was wondering, whats faster? the sd class10 card, or the internal memory? because, if its fast enough, wouldn't be better to use that instead of the internal memory? I mean, apps would load faster than ever, right?
thanks.
edit: silly me, go to memory, menu options ---> connect as: first option
and about second option, I need to check antutu, sorry close this please.

1. Ensure you install driver normal in your laptap.
2. Switch the USB to USB mass storage, you can find it in system setting->storage->USE mass storage(in menu)
3. The custom kernel for CM10 has bug, need you plug and pull the USB again after you set USB module to USB mass storage.

Recovery mode
Btw forgot to mention that i read somewhere that this was possible through the RECOVERY MODE!
some one said i chose "Mount external storage' card option from the recovery mode options and my SD card was beeing shown as a drive in my pc and i did a chkdsk...
But the problem is my recovery mode doesnt have that option! (it only has install update from external storage)
so im thinking he mite have been using a custom ROM?!
