[Q] CHKDSK without having memory reader (adapter) when SD is damaged! - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

hi to all
its my first post in this forum,
yea i go this memory damaged try reformatting on my S4 (19500)
and as i checked the forum i understood that i should use a memory reader to connect the SD to PC and run CHKDSK!
but the funny thing is i dont have access to Memory reader right now
i wondered if someone knew how to chkdsk without memory reader? (btw as u know since the SD is damaged it wont mount in the S4 itself!)
tnx in advance
regards,
sina

Recovery mode
Btw forgot to mention that i read somewhere that this was possible through the RECOVERY MODE!
some one said i chose "Mount external storage' card option from the recovery mode options and my SD card was beeing shown as a drive in my pc and i did a chkdsk...
But the problem is my recovery mode doesnt have that option! (it only has install update from external storage)
so im thinking he mite have been using a custom ROM?!

htc desire can't read SD card
Hello all,
I FOUND A SOLUTION THAT WORKED FOR ME.
Stats:
HTC Desire, ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.0.1
Installed ROM: F1 Gingerbread V2 (A stock Android 2.3.4 ROM with some tweaks)
THE PROBLEM:
When in Android the phone couldn’t see the SD card.
When in recovery I couldn’t mount /sdcard. I was getting the error: E: Can’t mount/dev/block/mmcblk0 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0p1)
After testing another SD card, this one worked so it was an SD card issue.
SOLUTION:
(Summary: Download hddguru.com/software/2006.04.13-HDD-Wipe-Tool and wipe the SD card.)
- Make sure the SD is in the phone and connect the phone to the computer.
- Boot into recovery.
- Go to the Partition menu and select “mount USB storage”
- Since the phone is not USB bricked the PC will see the mounted SD. Backup any if needed.
- Download hddguru.com/software/2006.04.13-HDD-Wipe-Tool and wipe the SD.
- Unmount the SD from PC and recovery. Now again, mount USB starage in recovery.
- The pc will ask you to format the SD, do it and leave the format settings as they are.
- Unmount the SD from PC and recovery.
- Done. The phone will now see the SD card again.
Sadly, this guide didn't work for me.
I can't mount USB storage, can't mount SD card, can't repartition SD card...always get errors in 4ext recovery.
The same SD card works in a digital camera and the card reader.
This happened after I opened my phone to clean it out. It isn't the first time I'm doing this, but nothing ever went wrong.
It's confusing to me, because I didn't even touch anything around the SD card slot, just removed the back panel, cleaned the upper part of the phone where the speaker is and that's it, I didn't even take the entire motherboard out, no need for that.
Did someone else have this issue? Is it possible that I somehow damaged the SD card reader? It's covered with metal, so I don't even know how would I damage it.
Weird.
EDIT: This is on my DHD, not Desire, if it makes any difference.

My solution for the case of "SD Card blank or has unsupported filesystem"

Hi guys. I got a problem with my SD card after I recorded a video on my Nexus One (rom from Paul for very first Froyo over my rooted Nexus). I tried to to mount the SD card to my computer, but after clicking on the mounting button, the card appeared to have something wrong and displayed the warning message "SD Card blank or has unsupported filesystem". I could not access to the data on the card. I cared about my data so I tried to get the card out and used a card reader to read the content of the card from my Windows machine, but it seemed that Windows could not recognized the card. I thought the card was spoiled. I tried to save the card anyhow by trying to format it since I had the backup data on my computer already. Because I could not see the card on my Windows, I could not format it. I tried to format it on my N1, but after clicking on the format button, nothing happened. It seemed that my SD card was really spoiled.
But actually, I found a way that could help to save the SD card for my case. My solution is to try to partition the SD card using the ultility from my Recover section (I am using RA for nexus 1.7.0). The card after partitioning seems to work ok again. So I think the problem for my case is that the recording application already overwrote some data to the partition table on the card and that made my card inaccessible. Partioning the card again will help in this case but about the existing data on the card, I am not quite sure if it is still there. For my case, it's all gone.
Just a little experience to share ...
Hope this solution helps! Am doing the recovery thing now...

You can try to partition your card on an Android phone with RA 1.7.0 (or newer) installed. You can have a look at following page which is about RA for nexus v1.9.0 alpha:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611829
Good luck.
thanks man !
will give it a try... i first have to figure out how to get my phone into recovery mode. the three button method does not work for me.

whoa whoa if you have a galaxy s, do NOT flash the one he linked to. that is for the nexus one only. if you need to partition in windows, try plugging in the card to a reader and opening disk management (type "disk management" w/o quotes after pressing the windows key)
right click the card and hit format
Check your data before formatting it may not be corrupt
I had the same problem, rather than format the card straight away, I mounted it in ra recovery so that it was accessible over usb, then copied off all my data before formatting the card.

[Q] Is it possible?

Hey. I have owned my Wildfire for a week now so I am still a noob. I wanted to know if it's possible to install a custom ROM on the wildfire without an SD card so basically do it through USB. I have seen some phones can do it with Amon RA recovery but I don't think it is possible for the Wildfire.
Thanks.
Dont think it is although why would you want to do it without? The wf comes with a sd card
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
Because when i put my SD card in the adapter and put it into my laptop it cant open the card and asks "do you want to format" and when i choose yes it says "unable to complete format" so im screwed with that SD card
Use paragon partition n look on YouTube 4 a video that will sort it out n will fix that error
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Still dont work its not even showing up on my computer now ive probably ****ed it somehow but on my phone it says 1.83gb free space. weird.
Dose paragon partitioning show ur sd at all if not erm check to make sure ur SD card reader is ok bu using a different SD card
if paragon partitioning is showing ur sd card.
is ur SD card signed as active and does it have a volume letter as these thing will stop I from formating the SD card
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
It showed my SD card then when I tried to format it would only show my hard drive and plus the free version does not let you do anything to the card.
Try Panasonic SD Formatter:
http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/sd/download/index.html
E: Probably unrelated, but, make sure your card reader supports SDHC cards.
1.What happens when you connect the phone via USB and choose mount as disk drive?
2.When you use the SD card adapter, and right click on the SD card's drive letter if there's an option to "open as portable device" try that also try updating your laptops card reader drivers.
3.Use bluetooth to transfer the ROMS?
4. If you're already rooted, try formatting SD card via ROM MAnager.
As far as I know you cannot install custom firmware (a "ROM") without an SD card.
You don't have to use your SD card directly from the computer to install custom firmware. You can use file storage mode on your phone's USB connection or adb to access your SD card through your phone on your computer.
To install CyanogenMod with the help of adb, follow the steps in hxxp://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=HTC_Wildfire:_Full_Update_Guide and put the update.zip into the root of your SD card with this command:
Code:
adb push update-cm-6.1.0-buzz-signed.zip /sdcard/
You need to have your phone connected to your computer, have the appropriate drivers installed to do this and have USB debugging enabled on your phone. Documentation on adb is available at hxxp://developer.android.com/guide/developing/tools/adb.html
An alternative way to the above adb method is to enable USB phone storage mode when you connect your phone to your computer and transfer the update.zip file to your SD card.
Hi guys thanks for all your help I have fixed my problem. All I did was use a windows 7 laptop and it worked.

[q] urgent help needed!!

Ok, I have CWM and I can access it. I cannot read from my External SD Card to install a rom. I can access my Internal SD but I do not have a rom in there.
I cannot boot into the previous ROM since I erased everything and when restarting I get boot loops. I need the tablet to get back to work tomorrow.
Any help would be greatly apreciated.
I have a ROM downloaded in my PC but when I connect the A500 to the PC (via USB) I cannot mount it to copy it there and flash.
HELP please!!!
What version of CWM do you have. I think the new one can install ROM from USB drive. Also try reformatting the SD card in a PC in FAT32, some time its just that and some time tablet is picky what SD card it can read and what it cant.

I was able to put the SD Card from my phone and flashed the new rom. The tablet is sill not recognizing the SD Card though. I put it on my PC and it wont detect it (cant format it that way). I put it on my printer and I am able to read from it but I cannot format it. It tells me that is right protected.
I need to find another way of formatting it.
Thanks for your help.
I suggest you get a new sd card. Clearly the one you're trying to use is not working.
I'm not even sure if you can "write protect" an SD. Maybe something on the micro SD adapter perhaps (switch)? Or an option in Windows Explorer (check the sd's "properties". If it says "write protected", then turn it off.

my note not recognise my SD card

Hello. Plz help.my note not recognize my sd card suddenly when i power off the phone then opened again. In addition the computer also suddenly nt recognize phone but the odin recognise when put it in USB debugging mode.also when open gallary it says SD card is in USB storage mode......thanks alot
does the sd card work in a different phone?
same here, my sd card works on other phone
Yes it works....also when opening camera it says turn off usb mass storage
But in recovery mood.it can read the sd when click on install zip from sd card
In recovery mode the inbuild memory is called sdcard, some not-stock recovery can separate between the two memories.
That said, your mentioning maybe wrong.
Is the card mSDXC, or regular mSDHC?
If there's nothing important on your card, try to format it inside the Note.
If there's important stuff on it, copy it to your pc (using a USB-SDHC-Cardreader) and format it inside the Note after that.
Sometimes the connection between the sdcard and the phone gets disturbed, so manual ejection of the sdcard out of the Note, cleaning the sdcard-contacts and putting it in again (repeat for 2 to 4 times) may help, too.
