Defective HDTV Adapter? - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

I ordered the HDTV Adapter and usedit for the first time tonight. Tried it on my newest TV and the video cut out every minute or so. Then I tried it on another TV and it did basically the same thing but not quite as bad. Did I get a defective adapter?

Are you running a custom rom/kernel?

if you install my kernel, it should greatly minimise this unfortunate issue with the retail HDTV adapter.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1226122&page=4
the only requirement is that you have CWM installed on your device.
search the 10.1 forums, and you'll get all the info you need.

So I take it this is a common problem with the Tab rather than the adapter I received?

From what pershoot said, it may be. If you feel safe flashing clockworkmod, a custom rom and or kernel, let me know. I will direct you to some useful links.

That would be great. I haven't messed with rooting and installing custom roms since early Android phones.

Stuck on Asus Screen after Kernel Update

Hey people,
Currently I was running AOKP Build 33, then decided to flash my Transformer's kernel to Clemsyn-Blades3.2OCver22a (http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1109630.html), now it seems to be stuck on the Asus EEE Pad screen. I did a back up and through CWM v5.8.1.8 and restored without problem but it's still stuck.
I'm out of ideas and hoping you guys have some

The Blade kernel is for Honeycomb. It is not compatible with ICS. You can reflash your ROM to get the original kernel back.

I second guevor's kernel. I was having the random reboots from anywhere between a few hours and less than two days, and since I flashed test13 I haven't had a single RR or SOD in two weeks.
Quick question:
Is the guevor's kernel compatible to stock ICS build 9.2.1.17??
It's rooted with CWM installed.

It didn't even hit the market until today, and most people are at work.
It'll take a day or two, but it'll come. I may be purchasing tonight (not guaranteed), and I'll start work on CM10 - with CWM coming first.
Doing it PROPERLY will take a few days especially since I have a visitor coming this weekend.

CWM root method for GT-N8000 is 100% compatible with wifi version, just confirmed:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831152
Right now my focus will be, for N8013:
Do system dump of all system content with read permissions (this is almost everything, but missing a few files)
Root the system dump, package as Odin/Heimdall-flashable
Flash rooted dump
Use rooted dump to obtain a dump of all partitions (this enables obtaining a raw stock image of recovery and kernel - The Euro devices already have firmware packages available, US devices often have to dump stock firmware from devices.)
From there, the kernel work starts
I'll be picking up my device tonight, assuming that it doesn't sell out.
what about the n8010 version.

So, i want to root, but I have a couple of questions

I noticed that looking at a blank white page on my Nexus 4 that it wasn't as white as I would love. So I searched and found out I could calibrate it.
I prefer not to use a different kernel, so I would like to use this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nexus4displaycontrol
Question #1: Is that app good? Like would it fix my problem?
Question #2: I would like to get updates from Google as well, how does that work with a rooted phone? Will I lose my calibration once I update?
That's all the questions I have.
Thanks!

And yeah, I was looking at custom rom's. cyanogenmod specifically, but they're doing nightly updates, so I'm worried that if I do use that rom, it'll be buggy and mess up my phone.

you cant calibrate without a kernel. the google kernel does not expose the needed interfaces and rgb calibration will get you no where. so, no, it will most likely not fix your problem. if you install a custom kernel, then yes, it will solve your problems.
in case youre interested, i compiled a bunch of calibrated google stock kernels for 4.2.2:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2136295
with these simple rgb calibration will be enough.
First of all if you are on the updated 4.2.2 stock kernel you wont be able to use display control apps to change your gamma settings. Google removed access to change the gamma settings on the stock kernel. So you will have to flash a custom kernel.
You can flash a custom kernel and remain on the stock rom. But will have to return back to the stock kernel in order to receive the OTA updates. There are many kernels so just look around in the development sections or even better search videos.
In terms of rooting many will advise you to manually do it yourself as this is the best way and it will increase your understanding of how everything is done. However, not everyone is confident even after learning how everything is donw and would rather use toolkits to prevent mishaps. I would recommend Wugfresh's toolkit.
So the app i used worked! WAY BETTER. What does gamma do?
Also, I rooted. Now what? How do I backup? I want CyanogenMod, but the monthly version, wondering how I can do that.
Thanks.

I hate to have to say it like that, directly, but there's no other way around it; search & read up mate!

No one is gonna hold your hand and walk you through it step by step, you have to do it yourself. There are guides everywhere, check the Stickies in General.

[Q] Stock Unrooted Flashable ROM

Does anyone know of a stock flashable ROM without Root and Busybox?
I'm aware of the thread guiding people on going back to factory but I don't want to do that. I want to be able to just flash a Rooted ROM if I want one and flash back to standard unrooted if I want using TWRP.
My reason behind this that I spend a lot of time on the train at the minute so decided to get Sky Go. Unfortunately it detects that the device is rooted and won't run.
There are a few threads around the net with scripts and suggestions but nothing seems to work for me.
I don't think there are any..... Hmmm.

I was just looking at the tutorial to bake it myself but having issues with Cygwin. Much quicker and easier if you did it.

Just realised I don't actually use root for anything at the minute but likely will do in the future.

Very cool that you've done this, but I should give a word of caution: there are some problems that wiping via fastboot will fix, but installing a flashable stock .zip won't fix. For example, when a 16GB phone thinks it's only 8GB. (I have reason to believe that there are other problems that can only be fixed in this way, but I can't prove it. :silly
That's not something the OP cared about, he just needed to 'unroot' to use a TV app that checks for root access

I tried that.
I tried a script that was published on the net to remove root and busybox.
I tried removing root and busybox manually.
I tried flashing stock kernal
I tried several other apps.
A flashable stock rom was my last resort as I was under the impression that I'd need to wipe and I didn't want to do that. I just tried it without wiping on the off chance that it worked and it did, so problem solved.
None of my Apps were using Root so I thought I'd get rid of it completely but wanted the option to flash CM10.1 once Bluetooth MAP profile is fixed and working without having to go through putting TWRP on again.
It's all in the OP and posts following that.
EddyOS saw what I was after and offered to help. He's a great dude.
Just for learning purposes, how come no one has made a flashable stock zip until now? Wouldn't it just be like any custom rom but instead its just stock?

[Q] Ideapad K1 First Root

My son in law just gave me his K1. He got a new Google Nexus. I have successfully rooted my Verizon SGS3 by reading the threads here on XDA and I am happy with that. Now here's my problem. The K1 is a WiFi version running stock 3.2.1. I want to root and load a custom ROM. My main use for this K1 will be streaming video from Wifi to HDTV using HDMI , streaming audio from Wifi to Bluetooth speakers, and using Google video chat over Wifi. After reading through Khanning, Krook1, and Kaschemme threads I am not quite sure where I should start. I would like to use the latest from Kaschemme but I sure not sure if it would be best for uses. Thanks much in advance for any input/guidance.

I've decided to go ahead and nvflash cm10.1 wifi kaschemme, then flash his latest 10.1.3 release, and finish by flashing gapps jb 20130424 nonneon. Does this sound right?? I hope so. I wish I could get this post moved to Kaschemme's thread. I am a noob and could not start it there. Thanks again to XDADevs for being here. It is a great resource.

Change of plan!! I am noob so after more reading and digesting I see that the CM ROM's may have problems with both Bluetooth and WiFi. Therefore I am going to start with the latest khanning K1_JB_AOSP nflash and work my way from there. Wish me luck. I hope to pull the trigger today or tomorrow.

CM 10, both Krooks and Kashemme had working Bluetooth and HDMI. That ended with CM 10.1. I WOULD RECCOMMEND kACSHEEMES cm10 you can use his NV flash to run the root and install the recovery. Don't use the non neon gapps with CM 10, you can use the Rootzwiki GAPPS. The other reason to use the Kaschemme is that he is still kind of around.

I have already flashed Khanning's latest JB AOSP. Can I now simply put Kacshemme's CWM cm10 zip on my extcd and flash it over Khanning's.Should I back up app my apps with TB and restore or can I just flash w/o a wipe. I have also made an android back up of what I got to my extcd. Thanks again for the help.
Sorry I reread both Krook and Kaschemme and I see I do have to go the nFlash route again. No problem. I am curious though. If I use TB to back up all my apps to my extcd can I just then restore them once I get TB reinstalled?
Got it to quote you - "That is not common, i have been running it since September on 4 different k1 tablets an there are no issues. Are you doing a clean flash? Are you using the Neon GAPPS in the OP? I also reflash gapps every time i do an update."
K1 nFlashed K1-WIFI_CM10_JB_07052013
Jerry/anyone,
I nflashed Kaschemme's CM10 in title to replace khanning K1_JB_AOSP and flashed signed gapps-jb-20122111. I really like the ROM but I have a major problem and some general questions. I now have CWM v6.0.2.8 w/ android 4.1.2 and kernel version 2.6.39.4. My major problem is that I have no audio feed with the HDMI. The video is good no audio!!! It worked with JB_AOSP! This is no good I use the K1 to stream NetFlex to HDTV. The audio comes across the K1 speakers, ear buds but no HDMI. Any thoughts help???? Do I need to go back?? Also I thought this ROM provided the option to overclock to 1.4. I can't find this option. Max I can pick is 1.0?? Any and all help is needed and appreciated. Thanks to all and Merry Christmas.
Flashed Kaschemme CM 10.1.3 w/ CWM
OK I decided I can live w/o BT so.........................I used CWM to wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, wipe dalvik cache , flashed CM10.1.3 zip booted up and let things settle down. I rebooted into recovery and flashed the nonneon gapps. Rebooted and logged into my google account. Downloaded TiBU and batch reinstalled missing apps. All went very well and I am happy. I only needed to download a couple apps from the play store. I OC set at min 456 max 1400 and using interactive governor. I have good WiFi, good HDMI, good head phone and video streaming to HDTV. I see my CWM was also updated. So far this is a great performing ROM. Thanks to all and especially Kaschemme for his hard work. Merry Christmas to all. BTW I got 10,501 AnTuTu. Good enough for this ole retired guy

I am facing a serious issue on my K1, I just got stuck on APX mode whether I press the vol + and - with power or don't press the 2 volume keys I always get into APX mode. Actually this is the 2nd time it happened to me, but now no luck it has been for todays already. Hope you can help me send all your things (ROMs and drivers) for K1 and I will try to revive my device. Cheers! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Try one of the NVFlash ROMs while you are in APX.

I see that you came 1st from unrooted HC. Did you get your K1 rooted first before installing Khanning's & Kaschemme's ROMs? I am still on STOCK HC and I can't remember how to root the K1, of course I want to flash CM10.1.x but I got no root yet. Thanks

I came from stock. Just follow the directions on kaschemm's thread. You can get the download from here http://goo.im/devs/kaschemme. You need to download the nvFlash to your pc and run it from there to get root and cwm recovery. If I if remember right the nonneon gapps link is in the thread and you flash that from recovery. Hope this helps. Good luck.
