Maybe im just stupid but damn I love my atrix.... I had inspire returned got atrix never looked back so wtf? Our bootloader is locked that's it.... the device is fast as hell and since 1.8.3 the motoblurr has been my pick with gladatrix so why do people talk about selling it for infuse.inspire and captivate? The inspire lags when over used and the atrix excells in high usage

I blame it on the vocal minority. I love this phone. Hate motoblur? Download a different launcher. Hate bootlocked devices? Shouldn't have bought this phone. Hate the fingerprint scanner? Don't use this function. Etc... etc..

its just the same 2 or 3 guys screaming like little girls.
The Atrix is a great device. People need to stop crying about it. No one wants to waste time reading complaints.
If I could marry my Atrix I would! She already accepted my proposal via SMS, but unfortunately, although I am forward thinking, the State of Massachusetts is not, so we cannot wed!
doing the opposite of that is also annoying imho.. (will become so if not yet)
just stop feeding the trolls and they will move elsewhere
I love my phone -- just one complaint really.... as an actual PHONE -- it's a little tough for people to understand me on the other end. I know there are a TON of factors that go into this.. but... still... I find myself just putting a phone call on speaker and talking on it that way. Sounds better and I can have better conversations as opposed to people on the other end going "What?"

Seriously. The phone is great and there are too many vocal winers on this forum for it's own good. That's it. Once we get a few custom kernels unlocking the phone's true potential (+3 multitouch) it will be even better.

Just a lot of haters on it and Motorola on the internet for obvious reasons.
Plus At&t has a lot to do with it and since most people have their old tech still they want to believe that dual core is pointless and lags with motoblur and blah blah.
Just keep rehashing the same thing over and over again.
Watch if the bionic ever comes to verizon, it will be getting a lot more praise, even though it will be the same phone.
I get no lag on mine, it seems to be getting faster and faster the more crap I install on it. There were obviously some buggy models but if you get a good one, there's not too much to complain about it.
The browser is probably one of the best and that's what most people use their smartphones for.

yeah, too many whiners on this forum.
i have been a power user of phones since my blue angel sx66 back in the day. i was a primarily winmo user (sometimes palm and bb for work) until recently when i tried wp7 and have now moved on to this atrix.
i really don't have any features that i am missing except remote desktop.
i like my atrix and still have my surround and tilt 2. but i still keep using my atrix. there are far too many clowns in here talking about dumb stuff and half of them don't even own an atrix.
and so what if something better comes out in six months. guess what??? there will always be something better coming out in six months. get in where you fit in.
My Atrix rocks. It's really snappy, it never lags and battery life is insane. When I had my Milestone, I could only squeeze 12 to 15 hrs from it with moderate use. My Atrix can hold a charge for 20+ hours with heavy use, even more if I use the Lapdock since it charges the phone.
Very happy with this device!
I agree with the vocal minority theory. Many of these people look at the locked bootloader and try to convince themselves it somehow makes the phone subpar, or they listen to the vocal minority group that says AT&T sucks and translate that to their phone.
I haven't owned any android phones in the past because I've heard from others that they're slow and laggy. However, I bought the Atrix because seeing one in person, it was exactly the opposite. Having owned mine for a month now (as of today, in fact), its still just as zippy (if not more zippy) than the day I bought it.

I believe he's referring to the kexec bypass by Kholk, not an official Motorola unlock. Once that is available and we have custom kernels, I'd be surprised if there isn't a reversal in attitude among these people.

Howdy, Guys.
Well, my digitizer broke, started getting really really finnicky, at first I thought it was just CM9 touch drivers. But yesterday, I noticed it had a huge dead spot, and touch test confirmed. I found a deal on a Lumia 900 on Craigslist, and will be using this for the next 5 months until my upgrade.
I've never been a part of such a devoted and active community on XDA. I thank you all for all your help, and I'm glad to have been able to contribute in whatever ways I could. I look forward to working with some of you again, maybe we'll see an Atrix 3 together.
Thanks for everything, and Good Luck

My Galaxy S3 will be arriving tomorrow. So while I may not be as involved on a day to day basis as I have in the past, I'll still be around. And I'm still the forum moderator, so don't go thinking your gonna get away with anything.

I really was hoping ICS version stable, would have been made while using this phone.
Oh Well, hey you guys and gals, take care and as we say in Germany Tschuess!
Sad to see you guys go. I'm tempted by the GS3 but it's not quite what I want still. I think I'll keep rocking the Atrix for another month and see what happens. And possibly save some green on the upgrade if I decide to go GS3 anyway.

Wife will use my upgrade for whatever she decides on
I'd like to thank all of you who are active here and stayed active through thick and thin
Most especially the leaker of the unlocked boot loader file then the devs who brought us more than enough great roms to make me really love this phone (after blur made me hate it) I'll still keep my Atrix so I can still try out what you all come up with.
Unfortunately, I have upgraded my phone as well to the Galaxy S3. Since money is tight, I am selling my Atrix to pay for the upgrade so Aura is now discontinued officially (I assume most considered it that way already).
It was a fun run and I hope everyone has a wonderful year.
I'm not leaving right away, I'll wait until a next batch of S3's are available before I use my upgrade..
It's been great guys!

While I am on the SGSII right now, I am still excited about a more stable CM9 on the Atrix.
Too many turn offs with me on upgrade options. SGSIII - Micro SIM (and I don't want to go the SIM adapter route) + too large of a screen.
Nexus - refuse to buy until Nexus finally makes a phone with a MicroSD.
HTC - Needs to prove itself in battery life.
Honestly while I am currrntly enjoying the SGSII, I'm STILL going back and forth with my Atrix on CM7.2. Don't know why but I just really love almost everything about the Atrix, and probably will never sell it...

Once you play with it for a few hours it makes the Atrix feel downright tiny and insignificant in screen size, it is crazy. It feels pretty much perfect in size after a short while.
Not to mention that it runs more fluid on the stock rom than any phone I have ever used. Amazing device, I would definitely say go try it out once demo's start showing up in stores. The microSIM isn't so bad, since after using it for a few days I can't use the Atrix anymore. It feels so small and hard to see the screen... which is kinda depressing because I loved the Atrix, only phone I have ever used for my full contract period.

I'm poor, so no S3 for me, but I picked up a refurb skyrocket for $10 as a contract upgrade. My wife's still on an atrix, though, and it does indeed seem small and insignificant after just a few hours w/ the skyrocket. LTE is amazing as well. Faster than my 18mbps uverse. Was a good run.

My atrix died for the 3rd time and rather then go through the warranty process once again I have decided to wait for the Lumina 920.
Ill be using the Iphone 4 as a temp phone (now I know why i didnt go apple) but am excited to give a whole new operating system a try.

Poor choice
While I love this phone, and you'd have to pry it out of my cold, dead fingers before I switch, I think that this is a bad choice. Unless they've somehow managed to fix the instabilities with Android in general and the quirks of the Atrix in specific, I wouldn't want to depend on this phone for my life in a combat zone. Even with running stock (rooted), I still have the occasional (but frequent enough) random reboot.
Thoughts?

They may have chosen it out of convenience, since Motorola makes great hardware and the Atrix is the only model in recent history with an unlockable bootloader (Photon wont work since most of the world is GSM). I'm kinda surprised they just didnt make their own hardware though, they certainly have the funds to do it.
So we have very high tech smartphones strapped to soldiers. Next thing you know they'll all have Heartbeat Sensors from Call of Duty.
The military looks to buy off the shelf prior to developing for themselves. I think the Atrix is a pretty reliable phone.

The development was in the operating system which they needed to make secure. I am sure they are picking what they feel is the best hardware, (and the Atrix I feel is a good choice), and the operating system news is 6 months or so old which is when the announcement was made by the NSA that they had developed a secure Android OS. It's been known for a long time the military was starting to replace BB with Android phones.
I would want a more reliable phone to show where my buddys are when I'm in combat. Having a phone that over heats in 65 degree weather, and they are using it in 100+ degree with GPS on?? Digitzer problems too.
Kind of a weird choice when there is more "rugged" phones, like the Samsung Rugby.
Motorola may have used it as a marketing scheme to show how reliable the ATRIX really is. Even though it is not, still a great phone though

1. Unlocked Bootloader - They can run whatever software they want, and they do.
2. American company - No worries about espionage e.g. (Huawei)
3. Good specs - Atrix might not be the newest phone, but it is by no means outdated.
4. Cheap - Motorola can't really sell the Atrix anymore, so the US army might have gotten it cheap at bulk.
I no I no....this post is gonna receive lots of bias info but I still wanna give it a try and I hope people r honest. I have read all over in these forums, there are lots of threads like this but at points it seemed people were overly sarcastic about everything.
My contract ends in a couple of weeks. I'm gonna be switching to tmobile as its hella cheaper. Now putting specs aside, I no they are great, how is everything else in the phone.
My primary concern is the glass back. It seems like everyone is split among the issues-some have already shattered it and others haven't.
Anything else I should no before setting my mind on which phone I should get?
Thanks
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using xda app-developers app
Hardware is great, price is great. It appears that build quality is VERY inconsistent seeing as most of my friends and myself have seemingly perfect units, but there are still a billion new RMA threads every day. To protect the glass back it's safest to get yourself a case. If, like me, you don't like using the phone with a case on then try a pouch case to protect it in your pocket but which allows you to use it 'naked' when you want to. Mine hasn't shattered yet although there are some minute and unnoticeable scratches on the back glass; they can't be seen unless in the perfect light.
I have this phone for a few months now and I absolutely love it! It's fast it's super handsome ... it is very unique!!!
Personally I didn't have any problem with the glass... except a little scratch which I don't know what happened!! My problem with the glass is that it's super slippery! It sometimes moves even on flat surfaces like coffee table...! 2 week ago I ordered some skins for back of my phone from here:
http://dbrand.com/submodels/nexus-4/
My phone looks even better with this, looks very luxury! It has a better grip now and doesn't slip away like fish! I'm using screen protection on gorrila glass also just to avoid taking any scratch...
I didn't drop my phone on a hard floor but I did drop it on carpet and one time I kicked it and it hit the wall! Nothing happened thou
If you like taking pictures with your phone I have to say the Camera isn't the best specially in low light situations but it's not the worst either...
I like the screen better than Super Amoled cause colors are more natural but I gotta say it looks a little washed out sometimes! It could be more colorful, you can improve it with custom kernels if you are planning to root...
Everything else about this phone is 10/10... battery life, smoothness, update support, appearance and ..... I'd give this phone 9 out of 10
I was seriously considering this phone also a couple of weeks ago. Posted my thoughts on XDA and the guys convinced me to buy it. One of the best decisions ever. The phone looks stunning and the build quality is excellent on mine. So far I managed to avoid scratches by keeping the back screen protector on and putting a case on it straight away.I haven't rooted mine yet because you will get the fastest updates from Google straight. However if you do want to root it there will be a variety of alternatives available (maybe an Ubuntu OS later). So trust me it is a good phone I will give it a 9.5/10 minimum.
Don't mean to troll..still with vzw. And hella jelly of u assholes...DNA is Aiight tho...on topic was I'd buy it if I could... Might anyway!!!!

Expandable storage being the biggest reason and the geek in me wanted to see what else would come to the market to rival the n4.....I wish I had pulled the trigger earlier. The phone is phenomenal! Best phone I've owned by far, still wish storage was expandable....I'm annoyed with Google for that and their dumb explanation, but other than that I love my phone! I got myself a heavy duty case just in case....so far so good!

Check out this video, sound isn't the best but it's still quite loud. The quality can be a bit tinny at times but normally it's OK. The biggest issue with the speakers for me is the placement as when you put the phone down on a flat surface the sound is entirely muffled (and I mean entirely, there's almost nothing coming out).
Its the best phone for the value of any smart phone and if you are going TMobile pre-paid check out Straight Talk, its basically the same service but $15 a month cheaper.

Just a comment on this, there is an idea of a "self-selection" bias. This is a forum to discuss the phone and when are people most likely to discuss something? When they have a complaint. There are likely millions of perfectly good Nexus 4s out there with owners who are blissfully unaware of what XDA is (or even what RMA means).
If you go into any forum and base your picture on complaints in a product forum youd think everything was garbage. Look at Apple forums, youd think Iphones and Ipads are nothing but terrible batteries, rattles and light bleed.
The reason your phone is good is the same reason my phone is good. The vast majority of Nexus 4s are quality.

Dunno what they mean but its still always a better value to get it from the play store, then you are not locked into the contract. You can use ST as an MNVO and get the same signal you would with T-Mobile but for $25 less (comparing to the contract plan) a month. If you do the math youd realize that the contract route costs more money.

Define "soon" . you may be waiting until around November or so. I think the back glass itself is sleek as all hell. I'm just afraid of breaking it. So I put it in a case where I don't get to enjoy its beauty.

Here's what I said in a thread of someone asking if it's worth it. Basically: you should buy it.

The main pros of the Nexus 4 that I keep listing anytime I tell people about it are the following:
1. Price. $350 is pretty much half the price of any other competitor to the Nexus 4
2. Pure Android, updated directly from Google. As soon as a new version of Android is released, it's on the Nexus. Google develops Android FOR this device.
3. Design. Glass front and back, it's a solid phone. Looks sleek.
Now, newly-released phones do have slightly better hardware. But we're getting to the point of diminishing returns. We're packing so much hardware into these devices, you'll hard-pressed to find software that actually makes use of it. I think the only debate you should be having is buy the Nexus 4 now, or wait until the next Nexus comes out, possible during the holidays. That isn't to say this phone won't still be a solid phone then, but I can understand if some people wait to buy updated versions.
To answer your question: yes. It is definitely worth it. At $350, it's fiscally irresponsible NOT to buy a Nexus 4. Right now I'm paying $30/mo for a tablet plan on AT&T with 3gb of data. Having weird and crazy options like that don't seem to happen with other phones. I feel like the Nexus 4 is YOUR phone, not 80% your phone, 20% the manufacturer's.
Spoiler alert: I might be a little biased, but c'mon. It's a sweet phone.

Do it. Don't ask questions. Do it. You will NOT regret it. I've had mine for about 5 days. It's fantastic.

You're falling further behind, get it asap and let the good times roll!
Thanks everyone for replies, especially @Johmama . How's the battery life and speaker sound? I wish I could buy it now, but I have tickets to pay so I have to wait a month
Not to mention the strong development support, if you're the adventurous type it's nearly impossible to hard-brick a Nexus.
Pure Android (AOSP) is rather nice by itself and I could live with that, but I like to go custom a bit .

Well battery isn't as long as say a Galaxy S3 with a 7000mAh extended battery on it. The N4 uses a 2100mAh battery and depending on your usage, it could last maybe 4 hours of constant screen usage at full brightness (screen takes most the battery), or it can last over 21 with the occasional checking of facbook, emails, etc once every couple of hours.
Here's a screenshot when I finally got it down to zero percent. (it stayed idle overnight as I slept, and then I used it here and there during the day.)

LoL, true we may be bias, but I'll at least tell you quirks I've noticed. Even so I'd still pick an N4 unless all the other brands want to ship full AOSP at the same price and include extras like maybe a micro-SD card slot or replaceable battery . I kind of wish you could use USB-OTG without a 5V adapter, but I don't use my phone the same way I use my Tablet.

It usually lasts me the whole day until late. I'm not constantly using it, however. I'm on all stock so you'd get much better battery running a different kernel and rom

Well I'm not buying a phone of any of you, so it's not like someone has to advertise it so I'd buy it. That's why I asked in N4 forum, because all of you have N4.
Basic stuff like Wifi and 3G data have hardware or driver problems. I sometimes wish I'd paid $100 more for a phone that has had more testing/QA. (Not sure there is a better phone for only $100 more, though.) I still prefer this phone to the SGS3, which has fundamentally bad OS design and poor compatibility with third party Android builds.
