Expansys UK - You have been warned!

If you are considerin an order with Expansys - think again!
I tried to post this in the Expansys forums but it was deleted within minutes and it seems they have now blocked my right to post!
Ordered the Desire HD with free accessoy pack (204815) when stock was showing as available and confirmed that the item was in stock with customer services prior to placing the order.
Order summary showed everything in stock but when the order moved to 'in progress' the Desire HD then showed 'Estimated 1 day'. This then moved to 3 days and is currently showing 6 days!
Called customer support and was told that everything is in stock but the Desire HD - this was obviously the main part of the order. When questioning why the site said 'in stock' when ordering I was offered no explanation and was told that the Desire HD is in high demand.
Poor Expansys, very poor. If you don't have the stock, do NOT say that you do!

This mirrors my experience 18 months ago with the my HTC Magic order I finally cancelled my order having been told good luck but no-one has any in stock and got one from phones4u delivered the following day. I have stayed away from Expansys since but if you look they always claim to be getting items in much earlier than anyone else

I really do hate it when any online company shows something I want as "IN STOCK" when in actual fact they have nothing, www play com also does this.

Worse still is being lied to when calling to check stock level on the site. On two occasions I spoke to Expansys (two separate orders) and on two occasions I was told they were in stock. Guess what, on two occasions the order reverted to 'awaiting stock' following payment!
Not impressed with Expansys at all. The part that annoyed me even further is that my query and warning to others in the Expansys forum was removed within minutes and I was barred from posting again!
Not good business!

Expansys are scammers, pure and simple. I've had a couple of similar experiences and now wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.
I strongly advise everyone to keep well away.

They're showing 99 in stock at the moment so you should be getting yours soon. Hopefully. Fingers crossed.

I always stick to ebay when buying new phones and the sellers with excellent feedback usually dont let you down.

I was going to buy a couple of charging docks from Expansys (my wife has a DHD too) and I was pleased to see a voucher for 50% off. At the basket it would only discount one dock and not two so I had a grumble to myself and decided to buy neither. Nice looking little dock though, but I am put off buying there by the stories here.

The exact same thing happened to me when I ordered my htc desire a few months back, they said they had it in stock on the website, then then out of stock, then estimated 2 days, then 5 days then 10 days .
It was so bad I almost harmed myself!
Anyways why are you ordering from expansys, they have the highest price at the moment for the Desire HD, there are other places selling it cheaper.

Same story here. I was wstching DHD availablity time wiggle like stock prices between 15 and 1 day.

I STRONGLY suspect they are not in stock at all and this is just a ploy to secure 'pre-orders'. Let's face it, their price is that far inflated over the competition what else would make us buy from them, the fact they have it 'in stock' even though they don't!
There is no way they would suddenly have 100 units in stock when I was told today they are having trouble maintaining stock level and that they expect a delivery on Tuesday, therefore mine SHOULD be shipped out Tuesday or Wednesday.
My order still shows 'Estimated 6 days' even though stock shows as 99+ A complete joke!

They MIGHT be ok for accessories but then having had first hand experience of their sly ways I can not recommend them. Buy at your own risk :-/

Simply because they had them in stock, or so I was told!
Personally I no longer believe a word these cowboys say and I will definitely be recommending that people to not buy from Expansys after my experience.

Not surprising to hear, unfortunately. I ordered my Hero through them last year, and the days kept creeping up, with stock levels showing as available. A common trend, it seems.

I really can't see why they are allowed to say they have something in stock when they clearly do not. Moreover, to be told they are in stock when ringing to verify the stock level on the website is just plain dishonest!
Removing my post in the forums and blocking my access is just the icing on the cake!

Another one with a bad experience of eXpansys.
It took them over 2 weeks to deliver my daughter's HTC Snap even though it was supposedly in stock. Ignored e-mails too. Terrible customer support.
Complete and utter shysters, plus that annoying t**t, Peter Jones has his sticky fingers in the company.
Please, for your own good, avoid eXpansys like the plague!

I would also recommend avoiding Expansys.
In my experiences, their stock numbers are not reliable (i.e. fabricated). Their deceptive business practices lure you into ordering with them then keep you hanging on waiting for your product.
On one particular order when I queried when delivery was to occur I was told to "relax" and that it was "on it's way." If their pricing was cheaper/competitive then you could reasonably put up with this.
Other than a poor customer experience, inflated prices and deceptive/misleading business practices they are fine (i.e. you'll eventually get what you've purchased in good condition).
Would recommend Handtec first, then Clove as better alternatives.

I agree that this quite nicely sums things up with this company.

Expansys also shipping Vodafone branded DHD as "sim-free, unbranded"!!!
1) Expansys do get 100 handsets but it seems they only update the 'in stock' numbers once a day when they 'process' orders. If you are customer 1-99 then great, no problem but if come online in the evening and are customer 100+, and they haven't updated the numbers, then you essentially become a pre-order - even though it says in stock. Dodgy.
2) BUT, way more dodgy... I just got my DHD yesterday: sim free, unlocked, unbranded and clean ...or so I thought.... But what do I see as soon as I boot? Vodafone branding. Called them; "oh, but it is just the boot logo, otherwise it is a normal DHD" Not good enough, I buy unbranded cos I want unbranded!
And Vodafone 360 replaces Amazon MP3 in the HTC music player too - so more than just a boot screen. What else is affected? Where do the upgrade ROMs come from? HTC or so I have to wait for a Vodafone ROM??
Worst of all, when I call HTC to migrate my Navigation subscriptions they tell me I should return the DHD as I shouldn't have a UK Vodafone branded handset in Sweden, and that Expansys shouldn't be selling it to me.
3) To give Expansys some credit here (a little), they send TNT in a few hours to collect the Vodafone handset and supposedly have a replacement, real sim-free, unbranded handset to send me tomorrow. Just hope it exists and shows up.

Wow, that IS dodgy! Wonder how that slipped in there!

Expansys is known for a dodgy rep , if you are buying sim free from the uk stick with clove or handtec dont even consider expansys.
i boughts something a while ago from them i received an empty box :\, when i asked questions i got no answer i did a charge back thingy with my bank and got the money back, was for a replacement phone charger luckily it didnt cost too much

I went to staples tonight and bought a xoom wifi off the shelf. WOOT, Since I live in Utah, all the staples are closed Sunday so I guess they opened sales up early.

I just bought one today at the Redmond, WA Staples. I thought the wi-fi only version was not supposed to be available until tomorrow (Sunday 3/27) and in fact Best Buy either didn't have them today or wouldn't sell me one... but Staples did.
So far, I like this thing.

Question... Does the box have any special staples code on it? And does the receipt show the serial number. The reason I ask is because I was thinking about buying one then returning my amazon order to staples when it comes in.

Yea i went to two staples today in Jersey, one refused to sell it to me and in another one the general manager of the store couldn't wait to sell it to me; i'm loving the device so far.

They're always gonna have special bar codes to identify each unit individually. One reason is to keep people from doing something like this....
Just wait 2 days for your Amazon order or just return it when it gets here if you buy the Staples one.

Ya all must be from the country. Wes call it Staples around these parts. On a side note don't you read your post before or after posting? I see this a lot.

Crazy, i was born and raised in Redmond!

I saw the model version at staples in new York. They didn't have any for sale...either that it was all bought out. But the demo unit had the latest 3.01 version. From all demo units I saw, none of them had internet access at all! It's quite a shame cuz there's a lot to show. But the demo unit was snappy and fast!

Just picked mine up at Staples(manassas,Va in case anyone cares)! Unfortunately it came with the battery completely drained so im waiting for it to charge enough to turn on.

Woot, got mine from Staples today. At first they refused to sell it to me, claiming they had to give me an 'orientation' first. I simply asked if they were ready to lose out on $600.
So far I like it. Typing on it now, the keyboard isn't ideal for two-handed typing. Gotta touch type. Also not seeing spellcheck in the browser. And typing on the full XDA site is realllllly laggy. Wondering if that's due to flash. Oh well, so far so good.
It is a bit heavy room come to think of it. Damn!
Edit: Spellcheck has to be enabled in the keyboard settings. Gah, such a n00b error.

The xda site is very laggy on the xoom. It has been that way since day 1 with any xoom. Get thumb keyboard in market for excellent typing on xoom.

Well, my screen has small to medium areas of light leakage all around the screen edges except the top one. It can't be seen normally, except when the screen is mostly black. I don't know whether to contact Comet or ASUS, or just fuhgetaboutit. Maybe this is one of the areas being improved upon.

Asus is probably testing the water with the UK release because they could launch here before the Xoom did.
If it's any consolation, it sounds like it is going to be quite a bit cheaper in the US assuming the 16GB version comes in somewhere around the $400-$420 mark as has been rumoured.

I contacted ASUS directly... just waiting for a reply.
The only concern I have with getting a replacement is that I've already ordered and paid for the keyboard dock with the ilovekeyboard email address... it may affect that.

We should be getting our FOTA update tomorrow morning 5:00am (12:00pm Taipei). Should fix a fair few things hopefully. Obviously it wont fix your bleeding issue though.
Anyone who has ordered the keyboard dock, have you received a confirmation email of your payment to asus?

I asked for confirmation from them and got it next day when the received my payment via BACS.

Please let me know what they say. Incidentally, I doubt it'll affect the keyboard sale if they are swapping one for another. If this is a widespread issue then I'll stick with mine as there are no dead pixels on the device and swapping always runs the risk of tempting the dead-pixel fairies...

If there is a wait, Ill just breath deeply and get on with it. The bleeding doesn't affect me too much, and I'm never going to use the compass on this device anyway - neither is worth the real hassle of dealing with a replacement.

Got a reply... told me to perform a data/system wipe, see if the issues continue and then contact Comet directly for a repair/replacement if necessary.

Galaxy S II in India - shipped!!

Hi guys,
The availability and pricing in India for S II was announced and put up simultaneously for pre-order in collaboration with Samsung India on letsbuy.com on the 25th of May with ETA as 9th June.
While I was late to the party by around 10hrs, I placed the order straightway without a moment's delay. The offer was a great bargain as well, compared to the prices around the world. This is what I got:
Samsung Galaxy S II (with NFC chip confirmed!!)
MHL Adapter
Car Charger
Official Flip Case
Molife Fit to use case (??)
Screen Protector
And all of the above for just $725 or Rs32,830 in Indian currency!!!
But what has me jumping up and down right now with joy is that I just received an email from the letsbuy.com guys stating that my order has been shipped, tracking info et all...!! Should be on the doorstep by Monday morning... the wait is just killing me now.
So how many guys on the same boat as me?

Nopes, not a mistake. It's just that they now have more orders than the units they are going to receive.
The guys who were the first to pre-order had the Desktop Dock as a free gift along with the MHL adapter, Car Charger and Screen Protector. The response was obviously overwhelming and the pre-order page was put down and came up again after a few hrs. That is when I came to know about the pre-order and booked one for myself. The Dock had been removed though and replaced with a Molife Case.
The ETA was 9th June and now obviously the orders have been exhausted again and the ETA has been changed to a tentative 2nd week of June and the car charger has been replaced with a bluetooth headset.
So basically, not a mistake on their part. Gotta wait till Monday and see what comes in the parcel !!

I too have got an SMS and Email along with Tracking nos.
I hope they actually send the phone. Can't wait for Monday to come

According to other threads on this forums, this is supposedly a fake and not a genuine item. The 'S' in the original has a different font... chances are they do come out of the same factory though and are of identical quality.
And yeah... it's just a voucher on the way with at least another two weeks wait. Major bummer!!

Post Christmas Eee Pad sale

Hi XDA,
I'm currently staying in Manhattan for another 3 weeks before returning back to New Zealand and wondering if any stores could be expected to repeat the Black Friday (or was it Cyber Monday?) sale price ($299?) for the Eee Pad? Or any tablet for that matter? Is this the done this time of year or have I missed out?

January time there will be some for sure, with the release of the Prime.

I picked mine up from Futureshop for $299 on Black Friday.... Looked around today hoping it might be the same price for one for my wife, but nothing... Prime is still listed as pre-order here (Canada) (vs 'sold out') so it looks like they have no reason to drop the price until the Prime comes out. The salesman actually told me to wait... considering they are usually pushy and commission-driven I'll take that as a sign. Either way $299 seems to be the 'target' price for now...

at least they have a good return policy... if it goes on sale in the next little while you can always get the difference... I actually bought two iconias and the transformer at the same time as they were constantly running out of stock. I test drove them all and keep kept checking for sales but because of GPS issues with the iconias I kept the transformer instead (though I did like the build and connectivity of the Acer better. aside from the better screen I also find the transformer to be slightly smoother as well.)
Now running revolver and blades3....
Whatever... enjoy your new transformer!

I test drove them all and keep kept checking for sales but because of GPS issues with the iconias I kept the transformer instead (though I did like the build and connectivity of the Acer better. aside from the better screen I also find the transformer to be slightly smoother as well.)
Now running revolver and blades3....

This is why this forum is full of posts by people who bought a TF from a major retailer only to find that it had been modded or otherwise played with and now doesn't work properly. You would be the first to flaming the store that sold you a second hand item.

Dude this is a no no in my book as well. Don't abuse their return policy man. No one wants someone else's throw away.

The only thing i did was install GPS test (a main concern for me) compare screens and build quality, and smoothness... made my choice, then factory reset, and return...
I`m kinda new to all this stuff but I'm sure thatsnot a big deal? I also did a factory reset before i brought it back....

If your new at this stuff, then do your homework here before you buy. Might save you some headaches as well as factory reset may not clear all personal data.

dudes, that's withing policy that they have written. he did nothing wrong moral, legal, or mischievous. I ts true, due homework always when buying anything that costs so much.. Unfortunately alot of stores don't have real or working display models. on the other hand, and it's always a person ora group that ruins it for the rest of us. just a opinion. happy holidays to you and your families

What's the law about selling a used item as new in the US? Just curious...
Aren't the returns supposed to be returned back to the manufacturer to get refurbished and sold as such?
