My nook will work fine, until I shut it down then I am unable to turn it back on unless I plug it into a computer or the outlet charger. The device will instantly boot up.
If I restart the device I have no problems. Just turning it back on after a shutdown. I do not think it a battery issue. Something to do with the charging kicks it to boot up.
Thanks in advance for any direction anyone can provide.
It's rooted running CM7.1.0-encore

Omnia 7 with Mango RTM officially installed, working perfectly was recently let to sit idle while I was using my Focus, and the battery drained over time.
Today, I wanted to charge it, but plugging in the USB did not power the phone on. I even changed cables, and also used my PC to charge it - but for the life of me, it wouldn't turn on. I even let it sit with the charging cable in it for a while.
I also took the battery out and only plugged the cable, still nothing.
Is the phone dead? Can anything be done to revive it - it was a flawless phone and there were no issues as such. I would appreciate any help.
Update: I plugged in the USB jig which powered the phone on, but now it's in the download mode. Powering it down and and trying to restart it again I am hitting a dead end. It's not powering on. Anyway to restart the phone without removing battery?
Update 2: I remembered from the past trying to update the ROM, that it fails and restarts the phone. So, while in the download mode, I started the ROM updater from Samsung and ran through the normal update process. It failed and restarted the phone - now I see a big white battery charging icon on the front screen. So hopefully this will be ok - and I will update the progress.
But this is quite disturbing as to what steps I had to take to power it on. Imagine if I didn't have the USB jig.
Update 3: After showing the battery icon for about 5-10 minutes, the phone restarted itself and booted normally. It's now charging and hopefully all will be ok. I'll make sure I don't let the battery die again.
So the battery died completely in my girlfriends rooted Kindle Fire. When plugged into the USB cable via the computer, it would just keep shutting off and on again. I plugged it into the wall outlet, it boot up to CM9 and then shut right off again and indicated it was charging. Went to turn it on now and the device simply wont turn on. The back light turns on and off via the power button, but the device does NOT power on at all. Help?

Questions:
Have you pressed the power button for 20 seconds to shut it down and try again?
What version of FireFireFire are you using?
How long did you let it charge before trying again?
When the device is turned on, does it show up in your device manager?
When the device is turned on, are you able to send adb or fastboot commands like "adb devices" or "fastboot devices"?

Thanks! I was able to get it to boot finally by simply holding down the power button while it was plugged into the AC outlet. I have no idea why that worked!
I have an 1838-4QU which is stuck in a boot loop; When powered on it will say that it is booting into recovery and the Lenovo logo comes up but after staying like that for a while it shuts off. I have it connected to a desktop via USB and it is not being recognized at all, whether it is on or off.
This happened after an OTA update (not sure which one) failed to install; the update downloaded and prompted for reboot and then it got into this state.
I don't think the system board is damaged but we're kind of in a bind with this because the OUTSIDE of the tablet looks like someone tossed it in a rock tumbler. It worked fine before the update, though.
So...are we screwed?
I was boot looping after going into recovery last night. Turning it off and on again didn't help. In frustration I placed it in the dock and poof! it logged right in like normal. Even if you don't have a dock, it might be worth trying to connect it to the charger while boot looping. I was amazed. You may be, too.
Sorry - missed the part about no USB. How are you charging?

It is charging over USB but there is no data connection. With the tablet connected to my desktop, it does not even show up as a device.

When I got mine out of boot loop by "charging" I wasn't connected to the pc. Did you try removing the charger, and giving it a couple of minutes then reattaching, while not connected to your computer?
Hope something works for you. If not, you, unfortunately, get a new motherboard.

you should give it a try
Was plugging in my G2 to charge it and suddenly it had this screen. "Firmware Update. Do not unplug the USB connection until the process is complete."
How do I exit safely? Will I corrupt any data or damage anything? I was only plugging in my phone to a wall socket, so I don't know why there would be such a screen. Help anyone? >.<
Someone knows how I can exit safely? >< Please?
That sounds like its in download mode, which you get to by turning off the phone, then plugging in a usb cable while holding vol up. I always assumed the usb cable needed to be connected to a computer for that to happen, but maybe it works if it just senses power.
Anyway, if the bar isn't going anywhere (and it shouldn't be since its not connected to anything feeding it data) then you should be okay unplugging it and turning the phone off, then back on.
Edit: Just tried it with my phone - turned off, then connected USB cable/wall charger while holding vol up and sure enough it went into download mode. I unplugged the cable, then held the power button until the phone restarted. Booted as normal.
My Lg ls740 prompted me to do a system update 3days ago and has not came back om since. It just keeps flashing from LG logo and the android man...i have tried taking battery out...factory reset...and everything above . Can anyone help?!?!
I have a USC S7 edge. Stock rom, no mods. My battery life is toast so I opened the phone to replace the battery.
I changed the battery. Plugged in for the first time and all it did was flash the battery icon with the lightning bolt when plugged in. Wouldn't boot.
So I tried the power with home button while plugging in, it brought up the galaxy s7 logo and just went into a boot loop doing that.
Next, I tried booting into recovery, and now it whenever a charging cord is plugged in, the recovery booting logo just flashes. I can get it to go into download mode only when plugged into a wall charger. It won't go into download mode when plugged into a computer.
I removed the battery completely and it exhibits the same behavior when plugged into USB.
Any ideas? Is my device bricked? Could it be just the battery is defective? I can't test my old known working battery as it was discarded. I have another battery on order and it should arrive in a couple days.
did you make sure that nothing was disconnected or moved when replacing the battery.
you may have partially disconnected a cable when opening your phone up.
When I bricked my phone I went into recovery and reset everything but after it went into the loop you are describing. All I did was boot into download mode and flashed stock to make it work again.
Any advice on getting it to go into download mode when connected to a PC? Mine won't- perhaps thats due to the battery.
It will go into download mode when plugged into a high amp wall charger
