[BUG] ICS Internal Storage Speed horribly slow - Nexus S General

I haven't found any post in here with this problem. Am I alone with this problem?
On every single ICS Rom i have such an horribly slow USB storage speed.
Read about 5mb/s
write about 0.5-1.5mb/s
In CWM Recovery i have Normal speed like in GB
I tried many ICS Roms and wiped everything a couple of times but still i have to go to Recovery if i want to copy big files to the phone.
Can Anyone help me with this?

Everything works fine for me...

ICS thing yeah, lets hope they fix that in a future build.

Kernel can make a difference, check this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1441905
Sent from my SNES

I tried like every kernel ant antutu shows me io speeds like in the benchmarks and even better but when i am starting to copy things to the phone it's the same thing all over again

I'm getting 6.6mbs write, 23.7mbs read on my nexus s.

Read the title ICS not talking about GB
And no kernel fixes this problem
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium

thats so frustrating... -.-'

The way is ext4 on /sdcard
Inviato dal mio Nexus S usando Tapatalk

Something seems to be changed since ICS. In the GB ages, my write speeds used to be very fast.
But, one more thing...that time the format of the storage used to be different and CWM recovery backup was readable on PC with the help of archiving tools...not any more ( all backup files are unreadable and incredibly small in size )
My normal backup is 16-17Mb which used to be arround 400-500Mb in GB ages...
I hope someone could find a solution to this..mounting to storage from recovery is very frustrating all the time.

Then its a good thing Jelly Bean ROMs are now here!

[Q] Why I can't see my external hard disk?

I've a PB G100W flashed with Honeylicious 3.2.1 (aka A500) and when I try to insert my ext hdd Seagate Expansion 1TB the touchscreen doesn't work anymore.. Why? The HDD is partitioned (1 fat32 + 2 NTFS) and with PB stock rom 3.2.1 there wasn't this problem, or better the touchscreen worked good..
I got the same problem with the old PB stock rom 3.0.1.
I even tried the "Drive mount" apk but no solution.. Can anyone help me?
Thanks a lot mates!

I would post this in the thread where you downloaded the rom from..
That rom i flashed to try and had some performance issues.. never tried hard drive..I KNOW its a rom from another developer. that he just added wallpapers and colors to . maybe something was messed up in the ui framework.. look for the themes from this developer . its the exact same rom other then color and icon changes..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1429556
i am using the near stop rooted 3.2.1 rom from this thread .. With my photo shopped UI CHANGES.. EVERYTHING WORKS GREAT..
with the above said.. how did you flash your rom.. did you wipe and format correctly.. you leave it wide open for anything to be the issue..
sorry i know this is no help .. good luck
Are you using a seperate power supply for the drive or relying on usb power? That is a pretty beefy drive to rely on usb power from a tablet to support it. While that said, 3.2.1 should see the drive and the ntfs partitions also.

I don't know, I'm a beginner about Android.. I tried a couple of roms.. Not more.. I'm OK with this one that I've flashed on.. It's just a little issue..
I flashed it right with CWM, wiped all and no problem.. I think that could be just a rom limit.. Maybe can be fixed by a little mod..

Nope there are 2 different connectors, USB and alimentation.. So there's a separate power supply..
Yes I know that 3.2.1 should support the external drive, but it doesn't work.. either with 3.2.1 PB stock rom.. Touchscreen was working.. just touch!

Rom question

hello guy's.... maybe this question is relative but I need some direction...any one can tell me what is the most stable rom for iconia a500?
thanks.

I would suggest any of the Near stock 3.2.1 roms WITH Stock kernel..
Also the rom by Moscow DESIRE IS A GOOD ROOM . .
Fallow all flashing instructions..
good luck..
Thor's Roms based on HC, are pretty good and stable too, just as long as you are not prejudice about who is following gpl or not... Also his ICS ROM is good too, with the exception of camera not working yet...
MD's Alexandra really good.
Civato Flexstriker is good.
Both of those are based on Base HC 3.2.1.
Personally i have played with alot of roms and currently running Honeylicious, but its not available any more. After playing with quiet few ROMs, i came to conclusion that all tablets are dam temperamental. Just because some Rom worked perfectly on some one's tablets from the start; dont mean it will work perfectly on your tablet OR Vice Versa. Which just mean you will have to put little more time in, but in the end they will/should works perfectly. So take your time and play around with ROMs.
Thanks guys for the advice...

I'm actually using Honeylicious 3.2.1, but it seems disappeared from XDA..
I don't know why..
It works pretty good, just a problem when I try to insert my ext hd
For the rest it is very stable e fluid
i believe the developer left xdas iconia forum. Something about sold his device.that rom was based on roms by civato. search his threads in the DEV AREA
Good luck

Try Drive Mount from the Market
3.2.x supports a fat32 partition (sometimes), but if your HD is ntfs, you need Drive Mount.

Shouldn't be a rom bug, KJY used 100% stock OS and kernel. Maybe something got corrupted a little, who knows. only takes 1 bit of 0's and 1's to make a mess Maybe some "rogue" app.
But if you reflash, and it doesn't matter who's rom you use, and it freezes again, well, it's probably a hardware issue. Either the tab or the hdd.
I would guess anyhow. Reflash, and check it before installing apps. If it's FAT32, should see it no problem. NTFS and you'll probably need Drive Mount.
Good luck!
EDIT: Also, try stuffing a flash stick in there, and see if it does the same.
It's best to try and isolate the problem. Can the table connect to a thumb drive with no problems? Can you access the external drive with another device? If the answer to both of those questions is yes, that would point to an issue with the tablet firmware. If the external drive works but the tablet doesn't work with a thumb drive either, it may be a hardware or firmware problem.
Jim
some hard drive enclosures just do not work well with the Iconia chipset or drivers. This would depend on who made them. .
I have a few that work flawless. One this is actually a better brand no luck at all.

I don't know, I got this
problem with 3.0.1 PB stock, then I updated it to 3.2.1 PB stock and no freeze with the same hdd plugged in.. Then flashed with MyG100w rom (by XDA) but no try about this problem.. 3 days later i flashed with HL 3.2.1 and it freezes the touchscreen with hdd plugged in..
The hdd is working pretty good, no problem with PC's or tv's, just some troubles with this tablet..
It's a expansion 1tb by seagate, 3 partitions ( 2 ntfs + 1 fat32) and when the USB is correctly plugged in, there's a green led always lighted up, with my tab this led is on, so it's correctly plugged in..
I don't know if I'll reflash the rom, because between a little time will arrive ics.. i can wait for it.. Or maybe I'll reflash before, i don't know

General Discussion Thread for Evervolv Jellybean builds

To keep the development thread clean, this thread is meant to discuss anything with regards to Evervolv's Jellybean builds for your Nexus One.
If you have any questions, such as "Has issue X been solved in build Y?", or any questions related to an issue you're facing, such as "I have a problem X. Is anybody else experience the same?", please use the Q&A thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1795946
Thanks for helping to keep everything clean!
Thanks to you, TexasIce and the whole Evervolv team, the Jelly Bean preview is awesome And I'm loving using JB on my N1.
Hope some cherry picks will be added in the future once you are done with the merge !
Keep it up ! Cheers
moved to other thread
edit; Just installed P3
It's so much quicker than p2. Keyboard, menus switching apps, everything is quicker. Great release.
My P3 report
Posting here since i can't post in the development thread yet!
P3 is a very very good build so far! Thanks to everyone that contributed!
In my experience everything is working except for:
Youtube(Native app, and Webapp), i did not flashed any patch, it is just P3
Bluetooth, A2DP is partially working. Player controls work, but no audio streaming.
HWA is working very well. Just notice that is not working so well in some
specific scenarios. I will describe here because i did not figure out what is the pattern.
Some UI components are rendered very well others not so much:
Notification Bar. It does not render well in the home screen and Flipboard.
Rotation. Not so smooth as in the latest ICS builds
In the other hand the folder animations and system setting scrolling could not be better!
Of course, this is a preview build and all of this is expected.
Wow. Cant believe how fast this ROM is progressing. Now with trackball wake! Awesome. Thanks team evervolv

I can't install app2sd plugin. I try install the plugin but the rom don't start.

Really like these JB builds. Have two major problems (on the Inc) however:
1. Whenever I try to restore an ICS nandroid after installing a JB build, I get a bootloop. Have to reinstall the original ICS system on top and then restore a lot of settings manually. This happens consistently, with lots of different nandroids.
2. Google voice force closes on the 8-3 build.

Full wipe or not, if I want to go back to ICS after trying out JB, and I try to restore an ICS nandroid, I have grief. It's as if JB changes the filesystem in some key way.

Did you flash the JB HBOOT when you flashed the JB ROM? If you did, that would be the cause of bootloop because the ICS HBOOT is different size than the JB HBOOT. If you didn't change the HBOOT, then you need to format (a.k.a erase) all partitions before restore the ICS nandroid.

Thanks for the advice. I didn't think there was a JB HBoot for the inc (I realize this is a N1 forum). Actually just flashing the raw ICS build before restoring the nandroid does the trick. It's just a PITA.

[Q] Galaxy S4 Internal Storage almost full without use

Good Day Folks
I really looked this up before posting so please bare with me
I have Rooted My GS4 16GB Using Foxhound 0.1 updated to 0.2 updated to 0.4 directly and stayed there because i want to solve this issue before updating to 0.5
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2303239 <<this one
I am using Class 10 32GB External SD card, personal apps or images and stuff all stored on SD.
My internal storage says i am using 14GB !!!!!!!!!!!!!
am i flashing the Rom in wrong way ? i am new to android but still i think i knew what im doing
i don't know if every Foxhound version i have installed has taken space without being wiped by the newer version
i tried to post this question in there topic but the forum wont allow me for some reason
Please help me out with any info that can help .. you know even when i have done multiple factory wipe and resets it has never drop down to
regular 6 or 7 or 8 or 9GB "used by system"
my ringingtunes are duplicated , alot of folders with weird images showed up in my photo Gallery "deleted already".
i am thinking to Seriously wipe it to reach regular 6-7GB used by system, then install the Foxhound 0.5 fresh..
Let me know what you think, i thought Android supposed to be easier than iOS which i have really mastered in no time but i really looking forward to master android because i can see Big Potential that my S4 will make me drop my iPhones in the history drawer
i am sure i am going to love android as much as i loved iOS or maybe more so please don't disappoint me here
any ideas please im still looking up to solve this issue

Good Question
Would also be interested if this is possible
WebOS is a different animal compared to Android. And Im sure this wont be possible with a locked bootloader. Messing with the partitions is dumb imo, thats the easiest way to hard brick a device.
Guys I came from an LG nitro and we had several issues with modified system partitions really screwing things up. Messing with your system partition is the fastest way to end up with a shiny paperweight. Don't do it.

Would definitely love for more free space especially since i'm running cm11 and the rom is practically a little over 200MB.
Probably some of the devs can have a look at this
Sent from my LG-D802 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
The system partition is 3.2 GB. It isn't like you can go from 24 to 31 GB free. If your that desperate over an extra gig, you might need to reevaluate what you have on your phone, or invest in a microsd usb card reader.
Also, 200 MB is most likely the size of the zip file, you are using to install the rom. That is compressed size. Mahdi rom (I have on my pc at moment so could check), is 208 MB compressed.. The actual install size is 351 MB. That doesn't include gapps, which also installs to the system partion. The core gapps package is 18MB but installs to be 30 MB. And that is assuming you are using core, the full packages are MUCH larger.
So theoretically, you could free up maybe 2.7GB. Is it really worth a good chance at bricking your phone for that?
This might sound dumb, but I'll say it anyway...
There is media in /system/media, not sure about songs, but certainly ringtones etc
I wonder if one could dump a few gigs of mp3's into /system to make better use of the space, and less use of the media drive (/sdcard).

we need to unlock bootloader to be able to resize partitions
It would be nice to be able to shrink the system partition. I've attached a sample screen of my G2 that is running CM11 nightlies.
But yeah, dropping the system to 1GB would leave plenty of room and boost the 24.1GB up by about 2.2GB to 26.3GB (a 9% increase which is fairly significant).
As others have mentioned though there is the issue of the bootloader.
On a second thought...I recall the unroot/unbricking flash tool causing some issues for people related to phone storage sizes.
I wonder if someone creative might be able to create an image with custom partition sizes via this method.
If u cant resize the partitions, IT would be kind a awesome to create a custom recovery like safestrap or boot Menu Manager which can create multiple System Slots so that u have multiple Systems on ur g2. So Let's say a aosp rom and a modded Stock rom at da same time.
Like so that devs See that.

I would also apreciate that. Having a 16Gb phone with just 10Gb free is a waste of space.
Stock Roms may be 3.2Gb compressed and inflate to 6GB uncompressed, but I am running on CM11, which only should be 500MB at most, when uncompressed.
Also this phone not having a micro SD card really kind of messes it up.
i have 2 galaxy s variant (epic4g sprint usa & sc-02b docomo japan) both have long journey in development history from cm7 to latest cm-11
the partition size was change several times to accommodate bigger system files in newer version
afaik it can be set in kernel source for both device on mtd samsung onenand driver
I don't know about g2 because I just own this device for 2 days lol
I have 16gb, so find a dev who works on this will be a great news for me
Anybody found anything useful regarding shrinking the partition?
