Can't stand that annoying Voice Command app that pops up whenever you accidently double-tap the home button? Well, apparently it can be removed if you have ICS, though not the typical way.
Thanks goes out to Marrr over at AF for pointing this out.
Step 1: Install Go Launcher
Step 2: Long-press voice command in the app drawer, and when the red "x" comes up, hit it. Follow the prompt and the app will be completely uninstalled.
Step 3: Uninstall Go Launcher if you want (and delete the Go Launcher/Store folders it created in your USB storage).
It really is THAT simple!
Or just don't double tap the Home button
In a year of owning a Galaxy SII I can't say I've every double tapped the Home button by mistake

It's weird, but lately, occasionally when I hit the home button the app would just launch. It's like the device was registering a double-tap. Not sure if it was me, or a hardware issue. Either way, it was annoying and I've seen a few others complain about the same issue.
If you're not affected, then you're set. But if you are, this seems to work wonders.

I agree, I never experienced the issue and laugh when I see people complain.
I know multiple people with the S2 and none of them experience.
I admit, maybe it may be hardware; but I would think if it was hardware it would be on a larger scale. I personally think people don't realise they double tapped it.

And I laugh when I see someone who assumes that because their phone works perfectly, everyone else must have a perfect phone too.
Does this remove the double tap delay though? Always drove me mad about gs2, and I've always got rid of it as soon as I can

I agree....it is annoying. It comes up all the time when I don't want to. Anyone know the name that is appears in Titanium Backup so I can remove it?
Voice command. Just filter for "vlingo"
i have a hardware problem, when i press home button, like 30% of time the voice command will appear, but i dont want to uninstall the app, there is any other way for disabling it?

Boys install system app remover, no need for root, and uninst apps u don't need. Quicker, safer, legal ,
i had the same issue (about 30% of erroneous voice command starts). i had frozen
the app with Titanium Backup and since then had about 30% of keypress failures.
Is there a program that shows if there was a keypress or not?
Thanks for a nice tip, that voice is useless in Russia anyway.
BTW, I also can unistall readers hub in that way, why it allows me to unistall it, but I cant unistall music hub, they're seems to be both system apps.
ES File Explorer can also uninstall it.
Select the App Manager then long press on the app you want to remove, eg Voice Commamd, choose uninstall, and its gone.

I've tried go launcher and it doesnt have a red x by it when i press and hold.... i tried apex launcher and the same thing. Anyone else have this problem.... please help. i'm using the SGH-i777 with stock ICS

I don't have the problem because I fixed it.
Search for root app uninstaller, install it, and find voice talk, or viingo as it is called, and uninstall the app, so uninstall root app installer so you can't launch it by a mistake and double tap and see what's happening, now nothing happens when I double tap home button, so it's fixed.
I hope I can help other people.
Its the most frustrating app ever even more frustrating than Touchwiz. Its like whenever I press the home button around 80% of chances are that it would pop up with that annoying voice,"What would you like to do ?"
And I'm like GTFO off my device. Finally removed it using Root Explorer forever after...

Thank you very much. Just to say so I went through that buttcracking process of making like my millionth forum account, but that one was worth it. Thx a bunch, I really have a device where pressing home leads you to the voice crap in 99,456%. Now its finally fallen off board. Thx again.
removing voice command easier
you don't have to change a theme or anything like that. you should download "Smart App Protector Free" and and in the apps section inside the app scroll down until you get to "voice command". click on it and choose uninstall. that easy
You can also use system app uninstaller from the market, just go into regular apps and remove voice command.

This is an outdated thread. You can now disable the app.
I don't have any use for Google Now nor do I use the built-in Google search function and I'm trying to find a way to remove the shortcut thing that pops up when I long-press the home button on the navigation bar. It's actually infuriating the amount of times I pull it up by mistake.
I am running Paranoid Android 2.5 ROM and the navigation bar options specifically states that the home button shortcut can not be changed in those options like the back/recent/menu buttons can.
I have deleted the googlequicksearchbar.apk from the system apps folder and that at least causes it to just bork up and stops it trying to load everything up when I end up selecting Google Now by mistake but it's still a pain in the ass to have that shortcut there.
I've searched around and the only things I found covering this were disabling it on the lockscreen which is different from what I am trying to achieve.
Has anyone had any success on the PA ROM in regards to removing the Google Now shortcut from the Home button?

Which google app is that? There is no Velvet.apk to be found and there's nothing in Titanium Backup's list that I can see that looks like it would be that either. I see google voice search and google search. The latter which is no longer present as I deleted the searchbox apk already.

THIS. IS. NEXUS.
Have you tried to disable Google Search app in Settings->Apps?
Worked on my Galaxy Nexus with stock rom.
You'll probably have to kill and restart Launcher process to get rid of the grey bar at the top of the screen.

I've manged to get Google now off the Nexus 7
After hours fiddling I found the answerr
You go into settings, click on app, and then scroll to the reach 'all'
You will see Google Search open it and hit all buttons which cut the cache and another 2 buttons which I d'ont remeber. Anyway click all the buttons there.
Then you will find that where the google search box was there is now a grey block in its place.
Close down the phone, and when you turn it on again the grey box is gone your sexy home page is back!
I really don't undertand the minds of Google Now. The annoying pop notes never told me nothing I needed to know. Google should at least give an easy option to turn the thing off. I fed with things being installed in phones which you can't deleat.
To those wanting to disable search, that's ok, it is your tablet and you can do with it as you like. But, is it really so hard to not hold down the home button? I use search every day multiple times and find it extremely useful. You can turn off any or all cards and even turn off Now and you get the search screen without any cards. If you gave it a fair try you might fine it useful. Others have posted how to disable it, so the OP has his question answered, but I encourage people to learn and use search.
I disable it because I use my nexus for gaming. So I like it keep my background processes to a minimum. I can only assume others do it for much the same reason. If you don't use it why have it running?

You can kinds of disable it using SwipeLaunch Disabler.
https:/play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=hk.sld.SwipeLaunchDisabler
Go to settings, apps, all, scroll down to Google+ and disable it.
That will just show the "old google search" when you use the home button.
If you want it back go to playstore search Google+ and enable it.
My question is, is there a way to add shortcuts to that menu?
Maybe replace it with this: Home Button Launcher
You can add shortcuts and it's Open Source.

I'm using Paranoid Android v2.50 on my Samsung GS3... I found it irritating that sometimes I would hit the "menu" button too long on my phone by accident (normally when it was in landscape view) and that would bring up the Google Search page every time... here is what to do:
1) Head to "Settings" > "Interface" > "System" > "Hardware keys"
2) Tick "Enable custom actions", the options below will light up for you to edit.
3a) In my case, I had to edit "Menu key (long press)" and set it to "No action"
3b) In your case it would be "Home key (long press)" and then set that to "No action".
That will stop the Google Search feature popping up when you accidentally hold the button down too long

I think that is okay to learn how to use it, but for me it is a bit annoying everytime I play MinecraftPE. The proximity of down button and home button is so close that I always end up presing home button then search pops out. I am on stock rom 4.1.1 device with soft keys and notification all bundled up.
In this Noob Series we explore How To Change the Kindle Fire Lock Screen and Eliminate the Annoying Double Lock Screen. When you complete this Tutorial you will be able to have the Lock Screen look the way you want it to look. The software we use to replace the Kindle Fire Lock Screen is Magic Locker. We decided on Magic Locker since it is well supported and it offers several hundres Themes, so the Lock Screen can look the way you want it to look. If you do not like to work on the Kindle, our new software, Kindle Fire First Aide will automate this process in the next version - Production Version 4.2.4. You can obtain a copy of the software here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2096888 - Version 4.2.4 will Root your Kindle Fire, Install Google Play, Install Google Apps, Install this Custom Locker, Automated ADB Driver Install and an Additional 40 other Automated Operations! We attempt to keep this tutorial updated regularly - adding information from the end users experience. We have recently upgraded the storage servers to increase uptime, you now have two options for the downloads both are ad free. Option one is a Dropbox Storage Server and Option two is a Ubuntu One Storage Server, if one is under maintenance you may use the other download link. When you are done with the tutorial, please take the time to post feedback, this is very important to us - without your feedback, we have no way of knowing if we are doing our job. Finally, if you feel we did a decent job, please think about donating to us using the "Donate to Me" button - this is how we make a living, without your kind donations we would no longer be able to do this for a living.
If you prefer and are into your own custom Photos you may edit the photos in the original Kindle Fire HD and 2 Lock Screen. This requires a solid knowledge of Photoshop or some other picture editor like GIMP that can change the photo size to 1280x800. If this is your preference, move down to Post #2 below. Post #1 will allow you to do just about anything to the Locker and you do not need Photo Editor knowledge plus Post #1 supports over 1000 Themes.
Prerequisites:
1. Kindle Fire HD 7", Kindle Fire HD 8.9" or Kindle Fire 2
2. Rooted Kindle: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2069117
3. Google Play: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2069329
Custom Locker Step 1. Using Google Play, search for "No Lock". Download and Install No Lock - You may use this link to verify the software: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.jraf.android.nolock&hl=en
Custom Locker Step 2: DO NOT Open No Lock, it will fail. Next, go to the Kindle, open up ES File Explorer or Root Explorer
Custom Locker Step 3: Be sure to enable Superuser on ES File Explorer. Navigate to /data/app, find org.jaf.androidnolock-1.apk - long press on the APK, select Move or Move To. Next, Move org.jaf.androidnolock-1.apk from /data/app to /system/app.
Custom Locker Step 4: Next find org.jaf.androidnolock-1.apk in /system/app. Long press and Choose Permissions (on Root Explorer) or Properties (on ES File Explorer). Change the Permissions to: Owner: Read Write Group: Read Others: Read - Click OK to apply the Permissions.
Custom Locker Step 5: DO NOT Open No Lock. Pull down the Upper Status Bar, Select More+, Select Sounds & Display and change the Screen Timeout to: Never and then reboot the Kindle.
Custom Locker Step 6: Once the Kindle is back to the desktop, open No Lock which is found in the Kindle Apps, select "Locking disabled".
Custom Locker Step 7: Using Google Play Search for MagicLocker Main which you can find here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.lockscreen.magiclocker - Download and Install Magic Locker Main
Custom Locker Step 8: Be sure to enable Superuser on ES File Explorer. Navigate to /data/app, find mobi.lockscreen.magiclocker-1.apk - long press on the APK, select Move or Move To. Next, Move mobi.lockscreen.magiclocker-1.apk from /data/app to /system/app.
Custom Locker Step 9: Next find mobi.lockscreen.magiclocker-1.apk in /system/app. Long press and Choose Permissions (on Root Explorer) or Properties (on ES File Explorer). Change the Permissions to: Owner: Read Write Group: Read Others: Read - Click OK to apply the Permissions.
Custom Locker Step 10: Using Google Play Search for MagicLocker Theme - Download and Install a few Themes that interest you. I use Starry lock screen and Jelly Bean lock screen.
Custom Locker Step 11: Launch MagicLocker Main, click on Next, Next, Next - You will now see a popup, click Next and choose Clear Defaults until it Grays Out, click on the picture of a house (Home Button), you will be asked which Launcher to Use, you choose MagicLocker Main <Select Default>.
Custom Locker Step 12: Launch MagicLocker Main, sometimes you are taken to your regular Launcher App, if this happens repeat Step 11. Select "Lost Robot Music" and click Apply. Next MagicLocker applies the Theme and asks if you would like to Customize it, answer Yes or No depending on your interests. I selected No so we can move on. You can always customize it latter.
Custom Locker Step 13: Next MagicLocker will show you an example of the Theme. Unlock it by pulling down the circle in the Android Picture.
Custom Locker Step 14: Now we need to customize the way MagicLocker reacts when you unlock to the Left which is a Phone Call and when you unlock to the Right which is a SMS Application. Unlock straight down just unlocks the screen.
Custom Locker Step 15: OK, lock the Kindle by depressing the Power Button for 1 brief Second until the screen turns black. Depress the Power Button briefly again, you will see the lock Screen. Unlock to the Right, next you are asked which is your SMS Software, I use Go SMS Pro. Check the Box to "Always use this application". Unlock to the Left, next you are asked which is your Phone Software, I use Google Voice and Groove. Check the Box to "Always use this application".
Custom Locker Step 16: Next, let's install the Themes. Find the name of the Themes you downloaded in Step 8. In this example we picked Starry lock screen and Jelly Bean lock screen. So go into the Apps. Find Starry lock screen, click on Starry lock screen and select "Install this theme". The installer will process and you will be back at the MagicLocker main Theme Menu. Exit MagicLocker, then go to Apps, find Jelly Bean lock screen, click on Starry lock screen and select "Install this theme". The installer will process and you will be back at the MagicLocker main Theme Menu.
Custom Locker Step 17: Now we need to let MagicLocker know what is your Default Launcher, so launch MagicLocker, find Preferred Home Launcher, click on Preferred Home Launcher and select your Launcher, we use Nova Launcher Prime.
Custom Locker Step 18: Let's eliminate the Ads from ever appearing again. Open either ES File Explorer or Root Explorer, navigate to /system/app find the dtcp_apk.ap, long press dtcp_apk.apk select Rename. Rename dtcp_apk.apk to dtcp_apk.old.
Custom Locker Step 19: Reboot the Kindle.
Custom Locker Step 20: Whenever you reboot, the Kindle Fire Framework starts before anything else, so you may see the Kindle lock screen at Reboot IF you do not let everything start. If you can not wait 5 to 10 minutes, unlock it and let all the services start, usually 10 minutes is sufficient. Once you unlock it, you will notice there are no more Ads! After 10 minutes No Lock Service kicks in and disables the Kindle Fire Lock Screen. We have attempted to play with the start-up timing and ended up with Framework missing, so Amazon was smart when they thought out this function. Also, the service that controls the lock screen is part of the same group that displays the Kindle Framework when you unlock it. Finally, if you do wait 10 minutes you will never see the old Kindle Fire Lock Screen!
That is it! Next we will offer you a solution with the stock lock screen but you will need high resolution photos to make it function properly. Be sure to look at our new Backup and Recovery Software for the Kindle Fire Series: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2096888

Gave this a whirl last night. Sweet. Thanks for this tutorial. After following the instructions in the OP I waited at least ten minutes for all the services to start. I am finding during a reboot the Kindle lockscreen appears; no ads. Unlock and use as normal. It is after the Kindle enters sleep mode then the Magiclocker lockscreen appears and I never see the Kindle lockscreen. Is this functioning correctly. I may have mis-read but thought the Kindle lockscreen will never appear (presumed this to be true after rebooting as well).

There's a chance that on reboot the original lock screen will appear. You should see it when the dpi is below 180.
Way to still view offers without lock screen
This worked great for me thanks. I am wondering though if there is a way to view offers under the offers section with the amazon launcher, but not in the lock screen. I wouldn't mind knowing some of the special offers when they are books.

Yes, we are aware of this problem. If you Open Magic locker before we instruct you to do so, it breaks Magic Locker. This is why we state to NOT open Magic Locker until we instruct you to open it. We use Nova Launcher as well, it works beautifully with Nova Launcher.
Please DO NOT open Magic Locker until you are instructed to open the application.

I do have to say, Magic Locker will force the Kindle locker to diable, I am not sure if Go Locker will perform the same task. Post your results when done.
No, Magic Locker does not disable the Home button. Magic locker uses the Home button directly and routes your Launcher through Magic Locker.

I have been thinking about it, Go Locker will not work like Magic Locker. You see, Magic Locker manages the overall Framework, thus Blacklisting any application from attempting to lock the screen. Maybe you can integrate the Home button into Go Locker? Magic Locker leaves the Home button in tact.:good:

blklab49,
The Kindle Lock screen will appear on the first boot if you quickly unlock it, after this first reboot Magic Locker takes over and you should never see the Kindle Lock screen unless you quickly unlock it after a reboot. Magic Locker is a service, so it has to initialize which take a few seconds after startup. Having said this, if you reboot and quickly (1-2 seconds) attempt to unlock the Kindle you may see the old lock screen. After my first reboot, I never saw the Kindle Lock screen again, it is gone!
Thank you for taking the time to post your comments.
Just curious if there is a way to stop that. It's annoying when I only want one screen, but new app installs make a new one. I'e looked around and can't find anything and I apologize if there is already something. I am rooted and have chroma install so and tweaks that involve root are accepted.
Open Play Store settings, and remove the tick which says 'Add icon to Home screen'.
I mean, that's kind of a fix. But it's an indirect fix.
There's a category called "Screen lock style" in the Screen lock & passwords section of the phone's settings.
How can I add other screen locks to that list? From my limited experience, if I download another lock screen from the Play Store and enable it, after unlocking my phone with the new lock screen, it still opens the phone to Magazine Unlock, and the newly downloaded lock screen does not appear in the Screen lock style list.
My ultimate goal is to disable Magazine Unlock entirely, because I'm using the Gravity app to unlock my phone.
My phone is rooted. Hoping for a solution that doesn't involve switching ROMs.
Go to developer options and disable screen lock.

Hmmm.... are you running the stock ROM? I appreciate the response, but there is no such entry in Developer Options.
Yes, I am running stock b180 rom. I thought it was in b170 too but not 100% sure. See attached pic.
Disabling screen lock is problematic for me, I believe because of huawei's encryption settings or because I use an sd card for primary storage. Ive googled around and played with a few fixes, but no luck so far..
Fwiw, there is no such thing as replacing your lock screen.. all you're doing is disabling your devices built in security and trusting a third party app, every one of which I've tried basically amounting to adware at best and spyware/malware as the norm. I'd be very careful running those sketchy apps..

It appears I looked right passed that, because it's grayed out on my phone. It says, "Disabled by Administrator, encryption policy, or credential storage."
I went to Advanced Settings > Security > Device Administrators - and disabled the two apps with access, but I don't know where to go for encryption policy.
Trusted Credentials is also located in Security, but I don't know what entry I'm looking for there either.

Gravity isn't a lock screen, it's an app that wakes your phone, based on movement and tilt, without having to press the power button. I don't care about security. If my phone gets stolen, I'd rather remotely disable it from the Find My Device website than put up with constantly entering passwords and pressing buttons every few minutes. I want to enjoy my phone. I compare it to the concept of having to enter your computer's password every time you pause Netflix or walk to the kitchen and back. The security level is ridiculous. Most would-be thieves aren't going to get anything from my phone before I remotely disable it. I don't use banking apps or store important passwords on the phone. The most they'll get is my contacts list and access to my music.
Do this to disable your lockscreen password, assuming your phone is rooted:
Rename both files (e.g. add .bak to filename) :
/data/system/
gatekeeper.password.key
and
gatekeeper.pattern.key
You can easily do it with TWRP File Manager or any root File Manager.
Then reboot the phone and you should not be prompted for the phone password or pattern.
Don't forget the thanks button if this helped you .
You take full responsibility for disabling your phone's lockscreen protection - e.g. losing all your bitcoins hahaha
Awesome! Got so fed up trying to disable my screen lock, ended up just wiping the phone, lol

In the security settings you should be able to clear the encryption policy or credential storage but that does not allow you to get rid of the lockscreen period but what I stated above allows you to clear the password meaning to take away the "Disabled by Administrator, encryption policy, or credential storage." Also if you can't find the option above goto backup and reset and reset the system settings you may have to reapply your EMUI theme and your settings but I usually use Next Lock Screen being a suggestion!

My lock screen is completely disabled by turning off "screen lock" in the developer settings. That is when i turn off the screen or the phone goes to sleep, i simply tap the power button and i am on my home screen without having to swipe or enter any passwords. i did delete magazine unlock folder, emui folder and theme folder in the system folder of the phone. not sure if that makes a difference though.
"My lock screen is completely disabled by turning off "screen lock" in the developer settings." isn't possible on my phone because it's grayed out. I don't recall what led up to it getting grayed out.
The solution I posted about renaming files is the only working solution I could come up with for my case.

I just wiped the phone and re-installed b180 stock from CLS (thanks cls!!). Screen lock toggle is available. I did not setup google account or att transfer at startup. I previously unlocked my phone to use for T-Mobile. On another note, I have been trying to figure out how to get Volte calling on T-Mobile. Under the specs of the phone, it is suppose to support it but there is no setting for it by default. But, i found if i delete the ATT folder in the "cust" partition, the toggle is now in the settings. Haven't tested if it works yet though. Ive been trying to get this phone as close to stock as i can. Ive deleted emui folder, themes folder, watermark folder, magazine unlock folder, cdrom folder, most huwaei apps and all att apps. I feel like the phone is snappier now.

Those files do not exist on my phone. I am rooted, I have TWRP, and I also have the paid version of ES File Explorer, which is granted root. I did a full search on the drive too, found nothing.
To ensure we're all on the same page, I do not have a lockscreen password. Magazine unlock is a screen you see when you wake your phone, and you simply swipe up, and you're immediately taken to the home screen. I am not attempting to disable a password. I am trying to disable Magazine Unlock. The screen that shows random pics upon waking the phone.

Could you be more specific? I found "Clear credentials," tapped that, no change. I don't know where to look for encryption policy.

Me too, but the Magazine wake screen persists.

I was hoping to not have to flash the phone. It may be my only option unless someone else understands how Magazine Unlock still works despite the fact that it's folder has been deleted from the System directory.
Have you tried disabling magazine unlock in the emui theme settings? Perhaps try the stockify theme, free on the play store?
Also, do you use an sd card for default storage?
I'm using a different theme, have internal storage as default, and still can't just select swipe to unlock (unless I rename files I posted about).

I appreciate the response. What you're suggesting does not seem possible on my phone. I see no button to disable Magazine Unlock. Exactly what buttons would I press to do such a thing?

It just replaces Magazine Unlock with another slide-to-unlock screen. No way to shut it off.

Your typing got a little messed up there at the end ("and still have can't just select"?). Not sure what you're saying, but I have removed the files you suggested, and I still must swipe to get to the home screen. I want to only have to press the power button to wake the phone, and then go directly to home. No swipe.
Corrected to "I'm using a different theme, have internal storage as default, and still can't just select swipe to unlock (unless I rename files I posted about)."
The swipe screen is there for protection in case the phone is in your pocket. I don't think you can avoid it as it's a safety feature.

I have magazine unlock disabled, no swipe screen at all, thoughall options to disable are still grayed out. I don't recall doing anything special, I'll dig around a bit later.
Under Settings, what does it say for "Lock screen style"?
