[Q] replace StockRom Recovery with CW recovery in stock rom ----- ( PLEASE REPLY ) - Hero, G2 Touch General

is it possible to replace official recovery with clockwork recovery in stock rom?
i have a goldcard but it does not let me sappimg roms different from my stock rom.
i donot have a cw or amon recovery. i need the recovery to get the engineering spl.
since only my stockrom can be sappimg'ed, how can i get the clockwork recovery by replacing My stockrom's original recovery with the cw/amon recovery??
can it be done??
thanks.
-------reason...
i had 3.22 radio, but i flashed another stockrom (htc europe 3.05 rom) which was devided in rom and rom1 files. i flashed rom1, sys, userdata, recovery. rom file had hboot, boot and radio 6.35.
i was unable to flash rom file (hboot, boot and radio 6.35) because when radio starts updating, the screen starts changing colours to grey for, like, 40 minutes (does this normally happen??)
now i have old radio, incompatible hboot/boot file- to correct it, i need Recovery
---EDIT---
MY phones stuck in hboot mode, i have no other option except goldcard, but what about what i have written, does it work?

Download rom manager from the market, although depending on your rom it may not be available (android 2.1) if not download it off Google by typing, rom manager.apk. Once installed you can add the new clockwork recovery or the RA recovery via the application, they both work fine. Hope that's helped!

You can, but i suppose that Amon Ra is better than others.

I would also suggest same solution as Tenpin wrote. Rom manager and it allows to change recovery (I suggest Amon Ra as well).

If you do get your phone sorted, remember the stock Rom reflashes the stock recovery every time you shut your phone down.
Also, I believe if you extract the proper signed Rom.zip from the ruu and put it on your sdcard and press volume down when in fastboot, it should search for and flash the Rom.zip. At least then you will have a Rom to boot into to flash a new recovery.
My old hero messed up once too, I would seriously recommend flashing the s-off bootloader, makes recovering from errors such as this so much easier.

[Q] how can i backup the stock recovery???

I have just rootet my magic, but i cant backup my recovery with recovery flasher 1.1.3 .
I think the last 1.5 rom for magic 32a is patched against flash recovery.
And the rom manager doesnt support a backup of the current recovery.
How can backup my stock recovery??
Magic 32a s-on h
1.76.0009 spl
6.35 radio
no one an idea?
i'll be sure, before i flash a custom recovery, i am able to go back.
so i need a orginal recovery.img
the best would be the own, but i cant backup the recovery.
Its not that we don't know how it's just thar there is no reason to.. if you can get into the bootloader you can restore the stock rom via SAPPIMG.zip or SAPPIMG.nbh .. this includes the stock recovery.
Having a stock recovery on a custom rom is not very useful.
Just note while you have the 6.x radio you want a hero custom recovery
(Advance users unzip the sappimg and grab recovery.img ..)
thanks for the information about the SAPPIMG.zip or SAPPIMG.nbh, it was very usefull.
i'll try the clockwork recovery with the rommanager out of market.
i think this is possible, or isnt it?
with the 6.35 radio?
I've heard about lots of bricked phones thanks to clockwork/rom manager. Use AmonRA's recovery.

In theory it will be fine if you use the hero recovery not the ion/magic one..
But given the confusion/problems/near bricks of others.. I agree getting the hero RA recovery and booting it manually with home+power is the safest way... that way if you goof you just boot android normally and try the flash again.
ok i will flash amonRA recovery.

[Q] Changing recovery

I'm currently running CM6 with ramon recovery on my 32b magic and each time I flash a new nightly it comes pre-installed with Koush's Rom manager.
Would it be a simple case of installing clockwork recovery through the rom manager as it suggests or do I need to remove Ramon recovery first?
Has anyone had any success with Clockwork recovery on the 32b magic?
There's no reason it shouldn't work without removing recovery. However I've heard lots of people say clockwork didn't install right so they were left without recovery. Before flashing it, make sure you have a fastboot capable SPL (2010/'09/'05/'04) so you can boot in to the SPL and flash the recovery image from there, should the need arise
It is that simple, and I have had great success with Clockwork Recovery and ROM Manager.

[Q] Help Please recovery problems rooted stock rom

Okay, so where to start...
I have a MT4G (of course) i love it dont get me wrongand wanted to mess around with it. i permarooted it via VISONary + and everything was working fine. i wanted to flash a different kernal and wanted to do a nandoird backup before i did anything else. but i needed clockwork to do this (correct me please if im wrong) so i downloaded rom manager flashed it. and went to boot into recovery and it does this icon with a phone and a "!" on the screen...it cant boot into recovery. and i dont know why, and now i just want to go back to my stock recovery but i cant cause i dont know how. ive tried terminal commands... and i tried to learn adb and fastboot but am very lost. basically i want a nandroid of my rooted stock ROM... any help would be much appreciated
The reason is because you need to turn s=off for any of those to work.

Read the guides.
1. The phone with the red triangle icon is from the stock Recovery program. Stock recovery does nothing except show you that screen, unless a special file is found on the SD card, used for a complete system restore. Your flash of ClockworkMod Recovery was unsuccessful.
2. When you do go get past the S=Off phase, and are ready to once again attempt to install CWM Recovery, be sure you install the CORRECT version. CWMR 3.0.0.5 is for Gingerbread (Android 2.3) based ROMs only! Don't install 3.0.0.5 expecting it to function properly for the Stock ROM, for Iced Glacier, or any other Froyo (Android 2.2) based ROMs. Those all require CWMR 2.x. A higher version number does not mean better. For example, if you are planning to install CM7, back up with CWMR 2.x, then flash CWMR 3.x before installing CM7.
(There is a special, unique to MT4G version of CWMR that handles both Froyo and Gingerbread ROMs, called "3.0.0.6". You can find threads on it in the Development subforum.)

[Q] Do I have a brick?

I was running CM7 RC3 fine on my phone, then I decided to switch back to my nandroid backup to stock ( I have done this wil ICed glacier/CM7 RC2/RC1/Royal Ginger etc with no problems). And I have been stuck on the boot splash screen the "Tmobile Mytouch 4g" screen for 20 minutes now without any action... is this a brick? I know I should not worry, but I tried wiping the dalvik cache the acahe and reset to factory setting.... still nothing
How do I go about getting the phone to work?
Thanks
are you running recovery 3.0.0.6? have you tried a battery pull?
Yes, a battery pull was tried, and I am running 3.0.0.5... any help is really appreciated
How do I possibly install 3.0.0.6 now? is it possible?
Thanks
need 3.0.0.6 to run stock or royal glacier. or 2.5.1.2. need to reinstall cm7 and use rom manager to flash recovery. or at least its the eaisest way for me.
follow drews guide and let us know how it goes. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944681
unfortunately, I am not being able to go back to royal ginger (its on the toyal ginger splash screen now) I am downloading CM7 RC3 again, but have no way to put it on the sdcard coz I do not have a card reader at this point....... so frustrated.
you can use recovery to mount usb and it will mount the sd card and can tranfer files from computer to card. if you can get to recovery its not bricked. make sure you format boot sys data and cache in mount screen before trying reflash.
Push the cwm 3.0.0.6 recovery image to your phone via adb

Google easy way to get 3.0.0.6 and it should be a zip file u flash in recovery called clockwork_recoveries.zip or something like that. You go into rom manager pick all recoveries and flash 3.0.0.5 and reboot into recovery and it should say 3.0.0.6 now u can flash any rom and restore without getting stuck

Your phone is not bricked. As others have stated, you need to re-flash a gingerbread ROM (like CM7) in order for it to boot.
Best thing to do is install ClockworkMod Recovery version 3.0.0.6 because it can flash both gingerbread and froyo ROMs. You can do this in two ways:
1. Re-flash a Gingerbread ROM. Download TrueBlue_Drew's .zip file from his thread in Development and follow his instructions to be able to flash the included recovery images from ROM Manager.
2. If you have the engineering bootloader (0.85.2007, also some people call it ENG SPL), and if you've set up ADB on your computer, then you can use the fastboot utility to flash recovery images directly to the device. I personally prefer this method. If you can't find instructions to do this, PM me.

How to Up-/Downgrade Clockworkmod Recovery?

Hey guys, I am new here and at first I have to say sorry for my bad english :S
However, here is my Problem:
I just made my Wildfire ( Froyo 2.2.1; HBOOT with .01 at end) S-OFF and rooted it manually with this *KLICK* Method.
The Clockworkmod Recovery, which is now on my phone, is Version 3.0.0.6...
And here is the Problem, I can not flash custom Roms based on 2.2.1, it only allow to flash Roms based on 2.3+ and I have no Idea how to update to a newer Version which allow it or to downgrade to an older Version which definitely allow it ...
Any Idea or Solution?
eversearcher
Get ROM manager
click Flash Recovery
wait
click Reboot into Recovery
If you want to use recovery 3.0 reboot the phone into HBOOT and select it from there.
If you want to use recovery 2.5 use rom manager.
or you can use fastboot to install
i`ve got the same problem and i still can't flash less than 2.3+

2nd post of this thread. Flash recovery from rom manager and reboot to recovery from the option in rom manager itself.
If u still face issues, then reboot to recovery and select "install zip from sdcard" and then select "choose zip from sdcard". Then choose the path sdcard/clockworkmod/download/ and enter the sub folders where you find 2.x recovery. Flash it first to get 2.x recovery on the fly. Then you can start the installation of 2.2 roms .

Thanks for the answers! I will try it tonight and report if it worked
edit: Worked just fine!! Thank you very much!
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
since I am facing the same problem.... where can I get the .img version of the .zip clockwork recovery??
thanx !
i figured out now !!! i was a little bit obsessed to flash openfire and some old roms but now i came back to cm7 ... and for gps to work i just reflashed radio
I cannot flash cwm recovery v4. with s-off unrevoke doesnot do so and installing it from hboot or recovery 2.5 does not work. any clues?
You have to rename the ZIP file (!) of cwm recovery 4 to "PC49IMG.zip" and than put it in the root of your sd card.
Start to HBOOT (S-OFF!) and click yes when it asks for update.
It should work this way...
this is will not work, signing lost by renameing. best way is get android sdk, when phone restart in fastboot mode, in pc go to cmd (cd to C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk\tools) or where ever you android_sdk installed. extract recovery.img to same folder, insert command "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" (recovery.img can be a any name.img)
