Excuse my ignorance, but isn't the Wifi icon supposed to give information about the signal strenght?
On my tablet it is always lowest (it shows the center dot, but no bars) even if I hold the tablet against the AP.
/proc/net/wireless gives typical signal strenghts of -75 (office) to -44 (against the AP).
Archos A10.1 IT running UrukDroid 1.6.
Seems it is only updated when it connects, not afterwards.
This morning I noticed that my A32 went from 1 bar (when I started it away from the AP) to full bars when I put the A32 near the AP. I do not, however, know what the refresh rate might be.
ON EDIT> I am running the full release of UD1.6
Even then it should reflect the initial signal strength.
Should, but..
So get the source, and start debugging.

I flashed the radio from here http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Full_Update_Guide_-_HTC_Hero_(GSM)#Flashing_Radio
It flashed fine, and on my phone it shows 2 bars HSDPA (I was getting 1 bar before)...when it's next to me. If I pick the phone up, after a few seconds it drops to 0 bars
If I put it back down (no further than 30cm from me), it gets 2 bars again!
Anyone else experienced this problem?
Edit: Okay, if I hold my phone with an L shape (left hand, index finger on to top left corner, thumb on the bottom) it has 2 bars, if I then place my hand behind the phone (not touching it) it drops to 0 bars again. Surely this isn't right?
My reception isnt much improved either... but signal at my house is normally zero anyway.
Paramount to that... the phone booted and now says its the 12th November 1980. Any1 else have this problem?
EDIT: im having the same problem as u looie... on the table i get a reception value of "-109" and as soon as i pick it up, it drops to zero!!!
I just tested it as well, and same here. Drops from two bars to zero when holding the hand behind it. Never did test that on another radio though.

Just tried something
While it was next to me, I ran Speedtest, and got 1.5mbps down, 800kbps up
I picked it up, ran Speedtest again... 380kbps down, 180kbps up
Put it back down, ran Speedtest again... 1.4mbps down, 500kbps up
I'm also having the same problem, the signal bars are continuously decreasing and increasing in strength at the slightest movement.
I'm thinking of going to an older radio.
hm...same here...but only with cyanogenmod and -forks. sense roms seem more stable with radio for me. even the switch from 2g to 3g and backwards does not force a signal loose und sense roms...hmmm...
Anyone else had issues in which the Verizon 3G is connected and shows good signal (2-3 bars), but the signal bars are grey (instead of blue) and data doesn't work? I have to reboot it to resolve this problem.
I am also having this problem with WiFi in which it shows great signal strength, but the bars are grey instead of blue and no data flows. This one normally resolves itself after about 1-3 minutes.
I've seen people report issues with a WiFi memory leak issue, but nothing about the 3G doing the same.
Guess I am the only one having this issue. But I am tired of it now and it's going back to Verizon.
I have attached images of what it looks like when it loses the data flow, and one right after rebooting showing it working after reboot.
I have a nexus 4 16 gb rev 11 running 4.2.2. it seems like I have a weak wifi reception both at my workplace and at home.
1. When I'm at work 5 meters away from the router. the values I get from wifi analyzer keep on changing constantly from
-54dbm to 66dbm and the bars go from 2/4 to 4/4... Speedtest had good results (26Mbps down/29Mbps up).
2. I walked around the office, on the same levels of reception other devices (S3,S2,S,HTC desire,Gnex) showed more wifi bars. confusing...
3. When I put the Nexus 4 right next to the router it gets -24dBm. (speedtest 26 down/31 up)
I have 3 more days to replace my device and I dunno how to make sure it's just a software issue or a hardware issue. I dont understand
how come the bars keep changing on the same dBm levels that also change rapidly in different locations (I can stand at the same spot and get -71 and then -52 and get from 1 bar to 3) .
It could be the way you hold it. The antennas for the N4 is in the back panel. The wifi antenna is located at the bottom rear of the phone. A slight change in holding it (moving a finger) can make a difference. Also, some router antennas are directional, which could explain the slower speed when placed next to the router.
Hope this helps >.<

I tried just now to put it aside on a table and see if the values change and they still do even without me touching it,
I'm in my room right now and it changes from -90dBm and then -75dBm and then after a few seconds -88,-84,-82 and back to -75,
then again it goes back to -90dBm. In this location I get just one bar or no bars at all but the internet still works even with no bars. Why does this happen? =[
help
Help anyone??
I have an intermittent issue that happens in multiple locations and on both WiFi and 3G. Occasionally, when I have good signal strength (3-4 bars) and have a blue "connected to Google services" status, I cannot connect to the web with any app. The status will sometimes show as connected to Google services for 30+ seconds before the network status goes to grey and shows no data. After that, it can take another 30+ seconds for the network status to reset and then I have network access again.
This isn't always the case, and I sometimes unlock it to find it on the grey "no data" part of the cycle and have to wait for it to reset before I can do anything useful. I am on CM 10.1-M1, and have seen this with stock kernel and franco nightly. My network is T-mobile, though this happens with WiFi too, so I doubt that has anything to do with it.
Are there any radio updates or other fixes that might stop this behavior?
I get this problem too. It stopped since I moved to my new apartment. Dunno what was going on cause I had full h+ signal and out of no where, data would drop. Happened multiple times a day.

[TROUBLESHOOT] T-Mobile Loss of Signal & No data OR data drop (grey bars)
[LG NEXUSâ´] [AOKP B6] [MATR1X]
Just asking. What would happen to a phone working under very weak (most of the time, one bar to none) mobile signal strength. Where I stay has exceptionally weak signal strength. I noticed that one of my i9505 shuts itself down intermittently at home. Doesnt happen elseswhere. My other i9505 has a dying wifi. I have just moved to this new home. Never had such problems before this.
What are your thoughts?
You'd probably see higher than 'normal' (that's relative tho, obviously) battery drain. I certainly notice this when I use my phone at home (weak signal mostly) Vs when I'm out & about (much better signal). Never known of this sort of thing to cause shutdowns though, unless there's some kind of firmware or hardware issue which gets triggered by weak mobile signal (again, never heard of such a thing) ?
