Hello I have a sidekick 4g with a fios router. I have a question on the speed test I get 17 mb download speeds with the wifi router the router is made by motorola if tha helps but a horrible 1 mb upload is something wrong here?
Sent from my SGH-T839 using XDA App
I have noticed that on some phones in general upload speeds over wifi are weak regardless of the router you're connected to. Maybe that's the case for you as well?
what's your FIOS plan actually should give ? how much are you getting upload on other computers or phones?
Fios is rated at 15 dl and 5 mb up load. And my phone sits right near the router btw and the computer. Clocks 29 mb download and 6 upload

My epic 3g is going really slow and keeps shuting off is there a fix for this or am I the only one with this issue
While I do like the way that the epic tries to manage your network connections (ie it turns off wifi when theres no network and turns off 4g/3g when you have wifi), I find it kind of buggy.
Sometimes my wifi is slow to reconnect and requires me to turn it off and on. I havent had any problems with the 3g connection yet. Although that may just be dumb luck.

My 3G is working the same as it did on my EVO, really. Same speeds here at my apartment. 4G speeds are the same at work. But that's just my experience thus far.
Mine are not my upload speeds are not as good as my evo but I'm in miami maybe there doing test or something

My 3G upload speeds seemed capped around 100-150kbits/s.
3G download and wifi are are both good.
Download seems ok like 600kb I use to get 1.2 mbs on my evo but wifi seems faster on epic then evo speed test shows it but it keeps going on and off its weird my upload seems cap to a lot slower then on my evo is there a fix

One more issue on pines near 75 I get 4g on my evo I usually get 5mb download on the epic I get 1 mb anyone else test 4g speed yet
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
EVO 4G at work: 5 Mbit download, 1.2 Mbit upload
Epic 4G at work: 4.7 Mbit download, 1.1 Mbit upload
Epic also connects to a tower much faster.
I notice that when I have coverage my 3g is usually always very fast... but it randomly will drop to no bars then quickly find them again...
Its depends on the coverage I guess...
That's is true it does connect faster anyone in pembroke pines having the same issue

I've noticed that my wireless N network doesn't appear on my epic is there a setting to turn it on it was advertised as having wireless N right?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
im having the same problem. it says it has n in the specs, but my network dosent show up
Are you running at 5ghz or 2.4Ghz on your home access point? Does the Epic only support 2.4Ghz N?
It does support N right out of the box. My E3000 router shows an active N connectionn when I enable the phone's WiFi.
Im connected to my wireless g network and i've noticed that it disconnects for like 2 seconds and then reconnects right away
Anyway to fix this

Shows up as N on my router. Interestingly enough, max throughput for both my Epic and Evo are approximately 11 mbps.

theres probably an 802.11b device on your network. The network has to drop down to the speed of the slowest device on the network and b devices operate at 11 mbps

Force it to run on N only.
"how do I do that?"
Manual or google specific model.
It would be specific to your router. My epic is connecting to my single band 2.4ghz router. To force it, you'll need to access the router through your browser, like you would to change the network id or password.

That would seem unlikely - most modern routers support mixed-mode operation. I can push over 80 Mbit on my N-based laptop over 2.4GHz with b devices connected. On the 5GHz band, I get closer to 112 Mbit, but that's a different point entirely.
Both the Evo, Captivate, and Epic seem to top out, for me, at around 9-11Mbit. This is probably a processing limitation, WiFi chipset limitation, or chipset bandwidth limitation more than anything else.
Ok so I have been searching the forums for a few days now and have yet to find the answer to my question. So please don't bash me for not using the search function cuz I did. There is a good chance that my question has already been answered and if it has please direct me to the proper thread. Otherwise my issue is that my epic is rooted as of a few days ago cuz I moved into an apartment and I don't have any Internet yet. Not for a few weeks, but I am using the android wifi tether app. That's working good for me except I am not getting any 4g speed through it. If I'm lucky i will get maybe 1 to 1.5 Mbps but most of the time less than 1 mbps. Does anyone know if the wifi App supports wimax speeds or not. Yes I have 4g coverage in my area. Where I am sitting right now on my phone speed test results are above 3.5 to 4 mbps. But while using my iPad (which I am using to write this) via wifi tether app speed tests are dreadfully low. Same with all other devices I have tried connecting like my xbox or laptop. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Is that the results withe 4g on? 3-4mbs? I get that with 3g untethered 4g untethered is around 8mbs. Have you tried testing it in another area? You might just be in a 4g deadspot. With wifi tether I get 3-4mbs on 4g. I can't really tell you where to go for info but those numbers sound more like 3g to me.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Yes that is with 4g on. Where my phone is this very second. I have 2 bars of 4g signal. And it's working fine for me. Sitting side by side with 4g activated and wifi tethering on. My phone will get 4mbps and iPad will get 1.5mbps. From the same server on speediest.net. And I run the tests at separate times so they don't conflict for bandwidth.
Update: just ran test again.
iPad - 350ms ping 1.63mbps download .86mbps upload
Phone - 122ms ping 3.96mbps download 1.2mbps upload
This is a known issue..it happens in android-wifi-tether and mobile-ap as well..its definitely using the 4g connection and wifi should be capable of transmitting more..I mean even the lowest is capable of 11mbps..but N should be a lot higher.
As far as I know there is no solution yet...the EVO had the same issue at one point but it was fixed I hear..
Maybe it has something to do with the settings on your phone. I noticed with mine that my speed would just climb and climb then suddenly just drop at around 8. It wouldn't be a slow climb either it's like it's actually being throttled somehow. Try clearing the cache or something, but for some reason those number just don't sound right to me.

Any idea how or what fixed it?
Just factory reset my phone last night.. And as for the numbers.. I know right.. Something isn't working here..

In their case it had to do with a routing table..but that routing table was for HTC devices so its not related to ours...
Both Mobile-AP and Android-Wifi-Tether experience the same issue as well :/..I do not think its wifi related either..it must be something in between the software and the sending to wifi.
Reason I say this is if you try the device with 4g on 1 bar, then 4g on 2 bars, then 4g on 3 bars on both the device and on phone you will see the speeds vary..example:
1 bar
phone: 4mbps/1mbps
laptop: 0.5mbps/0.03mbs
2bars
phone: 7mpbs/1mbps
laptop: 2mbps/1mbps
If it was the wifi speed, then the speed would not have dropped so much.. something in between is effecting it
Oh.. That makes sense. It's just too bad though. Thanks for helping me understand.
Probably the way the wifi and 4g radios are set up and how they interact with each other, maybe 4g has more priority than wifi. I'm just guessing though. I don't know much

Just FYI I too was getting slow speeds but with Sprints hotspot that I was paying $30 a month for. Needless to say I cancel the feature and will seek rooting my phone and add the free tethering, casue at those speeds it isnt worth it.
Sounds like the problem you are having might be caused by something that is the result of 4G and Wifi frequencies being the similar. If you are using both frequencies in a close proximity such as a room or house the frequencies have a high likeliness of causing interferences by reflecting off each other. A way to test this would be to compare wirless tethered speeds to wired ones on the same device.... Hope this helps.

Thing is its getting full speed on the device...at the time its using wimax..so wimax is not having the issue..not to mention..there is a relation to the wimax bars and the wimax speed which is strange...
What connection speed are you getting to your router? For some reason I can not get above 65Mbs connection. All my laptops connect at the 150Mbs. Any tweaks that you guys know of to increase this?
Dumb question. Is Wireless N on by default on the Evo these days?

Settings/wireless& networks/ wifi settings/ click the router your connected too and an info window will pop up.
There are probably apps available to give you wifi and router information also, I haven't checked.
The highest I've seen on mine was 54 Mbps.
I only see 65mbps with full signal, literally in the same room as my router, regardless of what router I use.
So folks seeing 100+: What router you usin', and are you lying?
So what am I doing wrong? I top out at about 30Mbps on my budget cable connection wired or wireless to the laptop. Speedtest.net app maxes out at 10 to the Evo.
72 mbps here completely stock

Had a blonde moment there, my bad, thanks.
But ****, I don't even see my N network. My netgear router has dual channel, and I only see the wireless G signal on my evo. The N network doesn't even show up!

My Evo shows the connection at 65mbps but I've only ever achieved between 6 and 7 mbps using Xtremelabs Speedtest. Annoying since my net package is supposed to be up to 15 mbps but I guess that's only going to be under perfect circumstances.

Eh, sometimes I get better with my other computers, sometimes not. I mean, my PC connects at 300mbps but there's no way I'm actually going to get that from the internet with my plan only at 15. I think some folks may have some confusion that the settings are only telling you the network connection, not necessarily the internet speed.

That's the downstream bandwidth, which seems actually pretty good.
What we're talking about is intra-network throughput. Speed in which your device communicates with your router.
I had to install a modified wireless kernel module to get N back after the 2.3 Gingerbread update. Or one can install a custom kernel which includes the wireless N fix such as freedom or chopsuey.

Ok so I'm moving to another place by myself and need to buy a router. The internet averages about 7-10mb/s here. My question..is there any reason to go with anything over a 150mb/s rated wireless router? Like say a netgear n150? I play ps3 online..watch "videos" etc...mainly does the fact that my internet connection is far less than what the router is rated at matter?

There's little reason to buy a router based on its rated speeds - 95% of the time, you will get MUCH higher wifi network speeds than the actual internet is... It's only of use if you are transferring files between two computers both on the wifi network.
The outside connection is the same speed regardless, but an 802.11n network should have a better range (and is faster).
Ahh ok..so I don't need to dish out for a high rated router since im not actually using the network part of it. Thanks.

Just because it says 150mbs on the box won't mean you will get that. Sure if you are standing next to the phone you will, but as soon as you start movign away it will DROP fast. on my home pc which is maybe 20 metres away it gets around 11-54mb.
on wireless G it would barely connect, i would go with N to be safe
