su

mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mmcblk0p15 /system

# su off
/system/bin/mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mmcblk0p15 /system
/system/xbinBK/busyboxBK rm /system/bin/su
some kind of shanigans with registerign for the first time you kill good and then restore from backup ? I dont want to do this:

Sweet Jesus...what are you asking? If you want to be able to boot multiple roms try boot manager by init2winit. If you want to keep root, use that root keeper app. Otherwise I have no clue what you're asking

Did you try rootkeeper ? and renamkeing superuser.apk ? I plan to try it next time I wipe but just dont want to mess with it now.
Did not try anything since i dont bave good installed yet.
RootKeeper works. Just shutdown QFE and then re-root. Unroot before you start QFE again.

This does not work. Good for Enterprise tries multiple checks to see if you have root. I specifically tried using voodoo ota rootkeeper to unroot then install Good for Enterprise and I still got the out of compliance error resulting in Good wiping the data and locking the app. The only solutions the google searches show to work are to unroot your phone and remove su, etc. At that point, you might as well reflash stock.
It sucks that so many corporate security feams seem to be jumping on the antiroot bandwagon. Also that they opt for Good over, say, Touchdown.
I refuse to change my personal phone back to stock, so I will end up using google calendar sync on my laptol, and my companies OWA access via broweser for email.
OLD
I would just get a cheap phone to use for work and use Google voice to forward all business calls to your primary phone. This seems like the easier softer way

I am going to take a break but I updated the main post. I may have rebooted with su in /system/bin/ and I think GFE randomly checks and on boot it always runs ...
at work they took away my GFE because I was rooted so I cant test this, but here is an Idea...
Create a user on the system
make GFE startup with that user
deny that user access to all the binaries used for root
that could possibly work I think
same issue
. Any luck? I am having the same issue. I removed SU and Busy box, as well renamed su and busybox in /bin and /binx. I was able to get in for about 5 min then it booted. I have no idea what it checks for because I even checked myself.with Root Check Pro and it couldn't find a trace
im about to have the same issue here. any help would be greatly appreciated.
Well since im only signing up for corporate email so they will pay my cell phone bill, i dont ACTUALLY want email on my phone, im sure this will be of no use to anyone but heres what i did
nandroided my phone
Reinstalled my current rom
Removed Root
Installed and synced good
Nandroided the unrooted version with good installed
Nandroided back my rooted rom
Now once every 40 days ill nandroid my unrooted rom, sync goodlink to stay active (they disable you after 45 days of non use) then put back my rooted rom.

I seen post on renameing sqlite3 and removing the noshufou stuff / the su apk I renamed my xbin or sbin folder and it got really pissed .. or it was because I copied a old ANDROID folder to SD card from a different phone

if you flash a rom then remove root will GOOD be able to detect the rom or unlocked bootloader? or does it work as long as you are not rooted?

I plan to wait some time and resync/ run my script to hide sqlite3 busybox and su / the su folder and run this:

maybe I can tell what it is doing with this software.

worked for me. I have an unlocked bootloader, all i did was unisntall root in that rom, then nandrioded the rom. Restored my regular rom and all is well.
Huh, so this why my GOOD app quit working. I had a Nexus S 4G and I started to have problems with GOOD booting me. I got a new SGS3 and rooted it, stock rom, had GOOD device changed with my work and they sent me a new pin. Intalled GOOD from Play and I get the Account Disabled message.
Is there any work around for this yet?
i started a thread. This works for now...

I second/third/fourth Mobile Defense.
Here's why...
1) When installed as a system app on a rooted device it will automatically turn on GPS to get an accurate location whereas wavesecure will NOT turn on GPS and only use the cell tower location which is not accurate.
2) Their support forum is FANTASTIC, they support custom ROMs and are aware of those ROMs out there and any problems associated with them. I had a few issues at first (none of which was mobile defense's fault) and they had everything resolved in a few hours.
3) Their GPS ping time is very fast. Instead of just sending a signal every minute, its more like every 10 seconds.
4) No international SMS charges like with Wave Secure (although I know wave secure is getting a US gateway soon, still...)
5) The upgrades they have planned are superb (just check out their site)
Sorry for the n00b question but how do I install MobileDefense as a system app on my rooted Hero?

Put the com.neevo.mobiledefense.apk in your ADB tools folder
Code:
adb shell
su
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
chmod 777 /system/app
exit
exit
adb push com.neevo.mobiledefense.apk /system/app
adb shell
su
chmod 755 /system/app
mount -o remount,ro -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
reboot
Done.
I disapprove of the program.
Why you ask?
Becuase it has an i as the first letter in name, and it is then followed by a verb which is then captilized.
Reason why they didn't call our phone the iHero is because it sounds stupid. Hence why apple has the iPhone.
Another Mobiledefense user here. Great program. Excellent for tracking your kids.
Thanks for all the help from the forum on rooting.

Did you make your root persistent? You're not going to be able to see root apps if you're not rooted, I don't think.

I could see Titanium on the market before I rooted. I would check the spelling or better yet, use appbrain.com to locate it.
how did you get superuser.apk to install?
See this post for installing superuser.apk
But how did you get busybox installed so Titanium would work?
When you go into Titanium, go to the Menu -> Problems. It will prompt you to download a version of busybox that works with it.

After Superuser.apk and su are setup
while still in recovery root (this does not seem to work if rebooted and using persistance root and remounting /system rw),
cd /system/xbin
/system/bin/cat /sdcard/busybox > busybox
chmod 777 busybox
./busybox --install -s /system/xbin
Reboot, Run Titanium, use Problems? button to download and install a new busybox into the Titanium app
For me, Titanium would not run to a point to use the Problems button until I put a version of busybox on the phone first.

I just got my Incredible rooted and installed Titanium Backup when I run it it says "BusyzBox works but the "su" command does not elevate to root:"whoami" reports "whoami:unknown uid 10108" instead of root?uid 0. I think your "Superuser Whitelist" system app does not work. Please check with your ROM provider." how do I fix this? or is it even a problem? Thanks.
same problem here
I am sure it is just a linux issue, but I am getting it too, but i am not a guru and do not know how to handle it ;-)
Can anyone explain titanium backup a little more??? Do I need to backup every app individually or just let the schedule take care of it? Which schedule option should I pick (in terms of all the options of what function you want titanium back to perform)?
I figured it out.
Just wondering, updating the version of busybox will do nothing to the root access, correct? It'll just allow titanium to work properly and root will remain?
My problem was from a not working superuser.apk. rerooted using the files from the 10min root video and now all is well. To answer the above question in regards to updating busybox, I assume you are refering to letting Titanium Backup update busybox. If so it is ok to update busybox.
Yep, that's what I was wondering. Thanks

Looking at what this backs up, I am a bit curious if it can actually restore some of it. Many sections it appears to be backing up are not writable even with root access at the moment on the Dinc.
I'm guessing it will require NAND access for this to truely be useful unless I am missing something...

That was the main purpose of me getting titanium, i'm not expecting to have the need to restore anything until i flash a custom rom. Having the backup now is awesome because i know i won't lose anything once they figure out how to unlock NAND and flash a recovery and roms

any help?
I need to uninstall swype and reinstall it. Ive tried over writing it with the default apk but its not removing a theme I installed with metamorph. If I can uninstall it, a fresh install should fix it.
I just dont know how to remove it
I don't know if you want to go to this extreme, but I did. I fudged up the phone real good by removing and installing stuff. I finally got fed up and flashed it back to stock and applied root again. This time I'll keep my fingers out of it. I hated touchwiz in the beginning, but now it's kinda growing on me. I've never had an iphone but the home and drawer remind me of iphone wannabe. It's okay for now.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
There a tool over at sdx-developers that can remove that when root explorer can't. I forget the name of it. There's also a pay app in the market that I think is called root manager that can successfully remove crap too. I didn't have much luck putting the general swype 1.61 in. It refused to install. That's when I think I just flashed it back to factory image. A full reset/wipe wouldn't fix it either.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I had to do this a few days ago for similar reasons. This is what I did:
First, you have to open your browser or other app with a text field. Select the text field then long press the text field again and switch the input method to the stock android kb.
Next, you have to make sure /system is mounted as r/w. The early versions of the the rooting scripts did not remount correctly but the newer ones supposedly fix it. I just looked in the initial rooting .bat file (on the PC) for the remount command and used adb to remount /system.
You can test if it's remounted correctly by renaming Swype.apk to Swype.bak with Root Explorer then going up a level and back to /system/app. If it's not mounted correctly it will show as Swype.apk again. If it shows as Swype.bak still, then you just have to copy the original Swype.apk to /system/app and then switch input method back to Swype!

yea its mounting in r-r, thats def my problem, cant change swype.apk with root explorer
so i need to re-root?
I don't know what's causing it but root explorer doesn't seem to work properly on the phone (not sdcard) filesystem in the system app folder. It's stuck in rw mode. People have said different things why but I forgot. I did noobnl's latest flash and it's still not working right. His script is removing the old root and my phone doesn't have that on there. I don't know what to tell ya. Maybe I should look for another root file manager.

I don't know if re-rooting will fix it or not. You could try. Here's the exact steps I took using adb from the PC:
Code:
adb shell
su
ls /system/app/S* (just shows Swype.apk is in fact in /system/app)
mount -t rfs -o remount,rw /dev/block/stl9 /system
mv /system/app/Swype.apk /system/app/Swype.bak
ls /system/app/S* (just to confirm Swype.apk is now Swype.bak)
cp /sdcard/download/Swype.apk /system/app/Swype.apk (or replace first argument with path of the good Swype.apk on your phone)
ls /system/app/S* (just to confirm Swype.apk and Swype.bak are both there)
reboot (reboots the phone, dunno if its really necessary)

hey guys,
how would i go about removing apps from an installed custom rom?
ive tried titanium back... doesnt work, tried pulling the apps from the pack nothing,
ive tried root exploits and it just sends your phone into an almost

any further moves i can do to remove various bits ? there as some things i just genuinely dont want.

I've just discovered there are issues where /system isn't getting wiped correctly prior to a new rom being flashed. Keep getting apps from other roms and such sitting in my /system folder even after a wipe and flash - at this stage I assume CWM is bugged? Could be your issue is related.
nope the ADB coding doesnt work as its almost like there is a PERMANENT R/w lock on the section i need to remove apps from
unfortunately the issues AERNT related, as ive wiped everything before, these apps are pre installed on the ROM. What does me with this is that the root exploit to remove these apps as in Titanium backup ... just turns the phone into a very expensive paperweight till the battery is remove
weather apps (widgets etc,)
Twitter apps , teet and various other bits i want to remove

hmm flash a new rom??this is the most refined rom i can find for DHD.
for that reason its more of a hassle to flash new roms
I would rather crack it, mind you i might be really thick asking this. that code you gave me have i got to get the adb.exe from android SDK and do this via a cmd.exe window on my pc or have i got to do it on my phone via termnial emulator.
how weird!!!... i used to terminal emulator to allow su (I.E to give system SU Permissions and now i can remove the apps ) haha

Yes from the android sdk. It *should* work from a terminal emulator as well if you run these commands first to mount the /system/app directory as read/write:
Code:
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
chmod 777 /system/app
Other option would be to use the root explorer app, it is a paid app though well worth it.

Works. Thanks!
I've debranded a UK Orange Flipout and unlocked to use on Vodafone UK.
The mobile signal is terribly weak and spends more time with no bars that with. It makes the phone useless as a phone however great the design is.
Sitting next to another android phone on the same network the bars are almost full on the other phone - when showing nothing on the Flipout.
Does anyone else have this problem? Is there something I can do to re-configure the phone and make it work as a phone? I've had all the data settings from Vodafone reset for MMS and data etc.
If no answer it will have to go back to stock ROM and back to the shop.
Thanks.
Hey, I got the same problem. Had me temporarily switch back to Milestone 'cause Flipout wasn't able to even connect to the service..no signal at all. I noticed that Flipout has slow network acquiration compare to Milestone. But, I have to point out that I flashed it from stock to UK ROM without BLUR so it's more likely possible that something just went wrong. For now I blame the basebands and try to solve it that way..somehow. let me know if any news
Sent from my Milestone using XDA App
ok, it was the baseband.. i changed it from what it was to this (attachment) and everything's fine.
you have to be rooted, and remount system as r/w
the original baseband files are located in /system/etc/motorola/bp_nvm_default
basically you need to replace this folder with the new one and set the same permissions as the original files had. i don't know if you know how so just for sure, here's the how-to
i suggest you doing this:
0]if you are not rooted, install Universal Androot and press Go Root, then reboot your phone
1]unrar the attachment to your phone's sdcard
2]boot up the phone, switch to airplane mode
3a]if you have Root Explorer, navigate to /system/etc and push remount as r/w
3b]if you don't have that, install Root Toolbox go to Mount-System Mount Options-Mount System R/W
4]fire up Terminal Emulator
5]enter those commands: (enter after each line)
Code:
su
cd /system/etc/motorola
cp -R /sdcard/bp_nvm_default bp_nvm_default_nw
cp -R bp_nvm_default /sdcard/bp_nvm_default_BACKUP
chmod 755 bp_nvm_default_nw
chown root.root bp_nvm_default_nw
cd bp_nvm_default_nw
chmod 644 *
chown root.root *
cd ..
rm -R bp_nvm_default
mv bp_nvm_default_nw bp_nvm_default
reboot
6]after the reboot, turn off flight mode, let the phone get registered to network and see what happens.. hope this will fix your problem.
it's a bit tricky, i actually had to reboot after mounting system to R/W and giving Superuser permissions and mount again because somehow it didn't work for the first time.. anyway, let me know if anything goes wrong
Thanks, that looks a bit technical but ill give it a go... thanks for info.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
Well I gave this a go - and I kept getting permission denied. sounds like problem you had with the system RW refusing to allow a copy.
Anyhow I am hoping I might have fixed it by using this link
http://dext3r.komodin.org/
And there is a radio file you can install under Quick FAQ with different country baseband radio files. Might help someone else ...
it didnt work
well, i did everything as written except i used ES File Manager to mount the /system as R/W and when it came to:
cp -R bp_nvm_default /sdcard/bp_nvm_default_BACKUP
it said "cp: can't create symlink '/sdcard....': Operation not permitted" for every file so i just did it manually with ES File Manager... that is only a backup anyway and shouldnt affect anything.
it just doesnt work.
and why cant i just drop the baseband files in there with copy and paste? that didnt work either.
i need baseband files for T-Mobile on the US network for the Flipout. does anyone have any others i could try?
thanks!
