Browser improvements? - Galaxy S I9000 General

Hey,
As you all know, the browser of our lovely I9001 is quite laggy as there is no (good) hardware acceleration. Is it possible to implement this properly into our browser or, even better, is it possible to port the browser of Ice Cream Sandwich to our device? I know there is already a lack of devs here, but because it seems quite difficult to get a whole ROM working properly on our device, it is even more worth trying to port single features of ICS, which might be easier...
Anyone has an idea if this is possible or even knows how to do?
Cheers

You could just use additional launcher from the market... Opera Mobile, Dolphin HD, Skyfire... They're all better than the stock ICS browser IMO

I am already using custom launcher and browser, because stock sucks at the moment. PLZ don't spam here and only post here if u follow my topic, which was porting features of ICS and not choosing apps from market.
Thx

Dude...your topic is about browser lol

Cannot understand your topic. If you have very high speed hardware but using bad browser also will make your browsing lag.

you could use network and wifi tweaks..
this would maybe also increase the speed of the browser

Build.prop tweaks supposedly has an effect.
IF u compile kernels, then jhash3 does increase speed significantly, but also causes battery drain.

Will ICS eliminate all the lag with android?

Will it be smooth like the ipad, when ics comes? Ive tried the overcome rom and there is still a bit a jerkiness/lagginess when using the screen capture function, exiting in and out, flipping through pages etc.
No. Get an ipad if smooth scrolling homescreens are the most important feature on a tablet for you.
3.2 will give you that smoothness. i use adw launcher ex and it pretty much fixed any lag. also recommend using spareparts+ to speed up opening window.
doesnt hurt to oc either
if you're not going to contribute then you can just keep ur post to yourself slack04
Everything you're asking can only be answered with speculation and dreams dude. I'm on 3.2 and don't see any of the lag you speak of.
Yes, ICS will bring hardware acceleration to the entire experience, should be a transformation.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
Answering the op question what lag? Sure if you have a slow device running top of the range os you will get lag
But since 3.2 I haven't seen any lag
Sent from my GT-P7510 using Tapatalk
I think lag can be caused by many issues. For one, widgets with heavy graphics and constant refreshes can use up a lot of resources. There are also poorly made apps running in the background that may slow things down. I would just keep the homescreen as simple as possible if performance is a concern.
If ICS runs as smooth as it does on the Galaxy Nexus, yes, it will.
We will see it as soon as the first "complete" ROMs pop up, everything else is complete speculation.
3.2 made the tab a lot better, but still not completely lagfree in my opionion. Its response time varies from perfect (browser) to mediocre (app switcher - at least until its open).
Are you running on stock rom? I am running Task650 & Phantoms "In Paris" V5 OC'd to 1.4Gz with ADW launcher and it is pretty darn smooth even on Honeycomb 3.1. It will only get better with the 3.2 update coming in the near future. Check it out if you haven't already done so!
hardware acceleration in ICS improve performence allot , see alpha builds on the single core original galaxy tab 7 and HTC hd2 on youtube and you will see the big improvement in speed even with live wallpapers
Though it is true that ICS will have hardware acceleration, android will always lag at some point, seeing as it is an OS capable of being installed on a wide range of devices, and it can not be fully optimized for 1 device to make it lag-free.

this is not 100% true , the kernel function is to make the hardware make use of the options in the software ,so that is why each device has its own kernel , thus with good kernel each device can benifit from the hardware acceleration on its way , so existance of (hardware acceleration ) with supported kernel should eliminate lag
Im using the overcome rom, isnt that the best if i want the smoothest experience possible?

But many companies don't bother with a good kernel. They pretty much use "Does it boot? Get it out the door" as a mantra.
The reason iOS is so smooth is because Apple tests devices for months and months to make sure the user experience is great. They put user experience over anything else, even features. I still get terrible lag on 3.2 while using my GT8.9. But hopefully ICS will fix that. But I won't bet money that all the lag will be gone. There's just not much optimization there, and throwing more cores at the software isn't going to fix that.

tested both
keeping kp8 for now, but without tw. opted for kp8 for now coz most features: camera, video works.
later, we'll just see
Using CM9 and loving it...still beta but stable as f**k and nice battery life. Only issue is the video codec (recording, youtube videos) as for playing videos i use MX video player with SW encoding instead of HW, and plays smooth as a slug sliding on butter!
None. I am a noob that knows his place.

everything perfect
using it for a week
I can't wait a ROM from luca and team, based on Samsung ICS, but many apps changed to AOSP.

Although I'm currently using CM9, I'm waiting for the same, the best of TW (like the video codecs) with the best of ICS. That said, I'm loving CM9 (for example, video recording may not be working yet but the camera is ridiculously faster)

Kp8 less stable for a CM9.
CM9 my daily ron now.
CM9 appears to be a bit more stable than KP8 for me at the moment, however as soon as a VillainRom Team release ICS, I'll be using that.

I like cm9, when it have working video de/encode, it will be the best... imho
+1 CM9 (as daily rom!)
TW on KP8 suxxs ... ;/
+1 CM9, using it for a week now and it's stable like hell, fluent, true beauty IM LOVIN IT
I'm using CM9 as my daily rom. BEST ROM I EVER USED!
Went from CM7 to CM9, really stable, good music volume, the browser is great No video yet but otherwise its really sweet. Feel no reason to change!
CM9 all the way! It's very fast. I kind of want KL1 but I'll miss ICS in the first 5 minutes. So I'll use CM9 as it doesn't have any killer-bugs.
+1 CM9
TW was a nice addition in Froyo and Gingerbread but really gives no added funtionality in ICS. CM9 is a much nicer and more polished android experience. I really hated how ICS and Samsung looks mixed in xxkp8. I could have changed launcher etc. but going CM9 is much easier.

Greeting to all of you for creating a wonderful community!!

Hi guys,
I been a silent follower to this forum and respect all the great works done by all the devs, mods & members. I am certainly new to this forum but not in forum world.
I must say i am new to Android phones but not to Androids as i have few tablets for last few years. Its been fun flashing, rooting & using multiple custom roms in my Tegra2 Tablet and so Android does fascinate me like you guys.
Apart from my Iphone recently i got another phone, it's Dell XCD35 / ZTE Blade Gen2. I know ZTE Blade has a great community with tons of customized roms.
Being new to this forum i guess it is taking some time for me read so many thread and try understand different roms available.
Can anyone suggest me any rom where i can get stable performance, good battery life, fluid animation, overclocking & other features.
I am aware of Apha ICS rom and being not so stable & many apps doesn't work smoothly its not my choice right now.
Appreciated for all comments & your valuable time.
I would go for the LG Mode ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1442517
It's got pretty good performance, nice animations, and on top of that; it looks wonderful!
Overclocking is possible, and with my Blade running at 729 Mhz and the governor set to "Lag-free", it's even smoother to run. Would definitely recommend that ROM. It's also got a built-in root explorer, and a smooth theme changer app, and a seriously good battery life!

The LEWA OS is a pretty sweet ROM as well. It's got a cool different interface in the phone settings, and not to mention the homescreen and app-drawer.
The only thing that I find to be a bit silly, is the fact that this ROM is actually Chinese, so there are a few translation mistakes, but other than that, it's damn sweet.
It's kinda quick too! It also has the ability to overclock:

i use cm 7.1 n257 for daily use and its awesome and performance wise the best.

Official ICS or Cyanogen?

Hi all. As you might have heard the official Samsung ICS update for our beautiful Note has started rolling out in Europe today. I'm just wondering whether people will be using it or whether they are happy with their custom ICS roms. What are the pros and cons of each?
I'm still on imilka's Cm9 v2, as it works flawlessly on my Note. But I should update soon and want to know what people more experienced than me think (I've only been playing around with flashing for a couple of months)
Thanks

I m going with Official ICS as I feel that our phone is incomplete without Touchwiz apps like S-Pen, S-memo, etc.
The day I will lose my Stylus, I will jump straight away to CM9. LOL.
CM9 is purely for better performance whereas Samsung ICS is for better user-experience.
I stay with TouchWiz Apps but other Launcher.
I think Nova Launcher is the best Launcher, those Folders and Docks are awesome !
Cyanogen definitely as I don't want this crappy Touchwizz on my Note.

How much of a performance difference is there between official ICS with 3rd party launcher and a custom rom? Would you feel this in everyday use?

I'm sure even without Touchwiz, there will be awesome developers porting Samsung apps over in future. Currently, you can choose both of them to your preference. If you usually take notes and enjoying Sammy's apps then by all means use the stock ICS ROM.
After using imilkas ICS/CM9 and then going back to GB I realised how much lag there was on the note and stock roms... so I guess my question would be...is it as seamless, performance wise, as CM9? (In terms of basic features and performance like swioing between pages and launching apps and transitions ?)

I'm on CM9 but would like to try the Stock ICS, but that's more because of a compulsive flashing disease I must have. Well in fact I would like to have FM radio app, so that's my excuse for flashing the official ROM. I can always install another launcher like nova and still use Samsung apps anyway ? I mean touchwizz is not just a launcher right, it's a whole framework that's "there" even if i use another launcher ?

Under GB I tried stock ROM and custom ROMs, the difference between these two kind of ROMs was noticeable.
And I like things clean, so I don't want useles things on my phone.
All ROMs I use are also cleaned by myself using System Tuner Pro and removing all applications I don't use (like Email for example, I only use Gmail, wallpapers, animated wallpapers etc.)
And AFAIK with stock ROM I cannot remove Samsung's crap so CM9 is my best friend.
With OpenDESIGN coming in the next few hours, you'll never say that you miss S-Memo and pen gestures anymore
I've come straight from CM9 and despite the annoyance of Samsung's bloatware I feel that ICS is a lot smoother on the official ROM. The only thing I would like to know is if there is a way to get the stock ICS keyboard. The ones in the Play Store seem to been twatted about with and don't seem to offer the proper ICS autocorrect infrastructure unless I'm mistaken.

Stock 4.0.4 vs CM9

After playing with CM9 for awhile. I just feel that stock is More reliable and fully function. So back to stock what I said in the title:
Stock
Pros
More free ram
Sony feel (UI)
Fully function (HDMI...)
Smoother (Ex. Open app setting a lot faster when have many app installed) CM9 just kill me
Battery little bit better
Better camera ui
Bravia engine
Xloud (did a very good job)
Cons
Noticeable lags
UI (not pure AOSP)
Not Xperia s UI
Not customizable in stock.
CM9
Pros
Pure AOSP + Customizable
Little bit better in performance
Cons
-HDMI
-Light sensor
-many little more
App in setting open super slow when having a lot of apps
Battery drain like a burning paper
That it for now ! Thank for reading
another pro for the cm9 is the compatibility with apps... ics stock is just... awful in that

Install a custom launcher like Apex then you have all the customisation. This is android dude you can customise any ROM if you want. For me, I think CM9 is a little bit better for gaming. Now I optimized my phone everyways for gaming. CM7.2 can handle game the best, even if my Xperia arc S underclock to 1 Ghz. For gaming and everyday use, it is absolutely no problems at all.
cm9
the problem is the arc has hardware limitations it is only a 1ghz single core processor so withe the custom roms and all there accelerators it may have unstable affects on the device
I use CM9 by FXP on daily basis. No complaints so far.
Anyway these ROMS will never have xloud or bravia engine as they use sony's proprietary files, so better stop expecting

cons -----what does that means?

Stock for sure, i supercharged it so its way fast
