I just upgraded to the latest ROM's supplied by O2 (3.17.03), and now active sync says my backup was made with the wrong version of software.
Is there any way to get the data back on to my XDA? In particular my contacts, as they will be the hardest to replace?
If not, is it possible to go back to the old ROM? (the radio ROM upgrade warned not to downgrade roms)
ActiveSync backup can be only restored to the same ROM. The best way to backup contacts is to use Outlook. Yes, you can flash your ROM back to the previous version, restore the contacts, backup them to Outlook, flash the new ROM then sync with Outlook to get the contacts list
there ma ybe another way
So i was about to download the old ROM updates from http://www.sourceo2.com/O2_Developers/Devices/O2_Xda/xda_ROM_Archive.htm
When i read the readme on that page. It says that active sync can only restore to a device with exactly the same partnership/device ID. It says you must delete the existing partnership and recreate it.
So i have done that, and a resotre is currently in progress (restoring a full backup from an old rom, to the new rom version of my walaby).
I will post back in 10 minutes when it has finished to let everyone know what has/hasnt been restored.
check for reginal settings.
In case it was changes to customize your device before upgrage - change them now from default.
it is not recommended to restore after ROM upgrade, tho...
restore not reccomended
I suppose i can understand why, but in any case i dont use outlook. So i cant see me having much choice...
Btw, does anyone know of software to sync the XDA to mozilla (preferable under linux too!)
backup to SD card
Out of curiosity, the pdf i read regarding the upgrade said you can back up to a SD card too.
Is this any different to backing up via ActiveSync? Is it any less risky to restore such a backup after an upgrade?
Up to my information, it has the same issue ... SD backup can't be restored to a different ROM version.

sync with

cynce
Looks good... anyone tried to sync with Mozilla Thunderbird??
Restore worked
So the restore seems to have worked... kind of...
The thing runs, but the old sms messages are only in the index, and i cant seem to delete them or view them.
The new programs from the upgrade dont seem to be here, though they could be lying around in a folder somwhere i havent looked.
My Fiitaly install works, though the input method occasinaly tries to be the transcriber even though it shouldnt be.
All in all, its usable, but when i have time i will be finding a copy of outlook just to back up the contacts and then flashing the ROM again and installing everything else again.
A note to anyone else who might be trying the same thing, all your notes etc can be backed up just by activesync synchronising your XDA mydocuments with a sub-folder of your pc's mydocuments. Then hopefully outlook can do the contacts and appointments. Dunno what you'd have to do if you wanted to save your sms messages or call log or anything
Results
Well, instead od studying for my exams (yup, just like me to do this) I installed Outlook, synchronised the XDA, flashed it again, synchronised it again, installed my software and it seems to be pretty good!
Lost my sms messages, but thats no problem to me.
2 things that are odd:
I had to add a shortcut to notes.exe in the start menu because it didnt exist
Also, i cannot create new accounts, ie gprs email ones. Of course, this would only be useful if the new ROM supports encrypted IMAP connections. Does it? Is there a free (or maybe cheap) third party solution that does?
Howdy! I am a newbee to this board so first off Hi everybody, lol
Anyways, I have a XV6700 WM6. My contact folder pim.vol is from WM5
when it was installed. Before my 6700 went totaly bad it wouldn't sync so I had to copy and paste it to my desktop PC. So, I now have CM .13 installed and first off "Kudos" to the maker of this proggy! Is there a way for CM to import the contacts file? There are over 120 contacts, web addys, Dr's # ect that I need. Or can somebody do this on another phone and convert it or whatever needs to be done then email it back to me? I will make donations as my funds get better ( I am on work comp, was electrocuted and had surgery ect. ect. So please help me if you can. Thanks for your time, JAS
i dont know if there is anyone who can assist but i have low emory and cant get my contacts to open due to an error with my downloaded app for pocket cm please advise and if anyone can post a kindergarden version of how to backup my phone and do a flash so that i can put a new rom on it for touch-it i would greatly appreciate it....
what you do is to get pim backup (freeware)
follow the prompt pretty easy to follow (it should save it to the storage card automatically)
it saves your messages n contacts any pictures and videos you will have to active sync your phone
flash your phone and rerun the pim backup and click on restore
then click on the the backup file and you should be good to go
you make it sound so easy i guess i will have to wait until i get with someone who can do it for me i am pretty savvy with comp but that all sounds like chinese to me...
Hello, first I want to excuse me because I don't know if this topic already exist, I searched but I didn't find
I wanna install Android in my HTC HD2, but first I need something to transfert from Win to Android, my contacts and my sms/mms!
For contact I already have a solution, using a Google Account, but I don't know what to do for sms/mms, and it's very important that I do that!
I hope you can help me to find the right app for this migration
Thank you so much, greets
Looks like this helped many people:
http://android.riteshsahu.com/tips/importexportmove-sms-messages-from-windows-mobile-to-android
I have used Sprite Migrate before:
http://www.spritesoftware.com/Great-for-You/Migrate/Migrate-Your-Data-Now/How-To-Transfer
but the beta is over now and its not downloadable. One could still use it by temporary shifting back the system date of the device (1 year backwards for example). There are 3 files you need: the CAB file for WM to export the data, EXE for the PC to convert it and an apk for android to import. I can send them to you when I get home if you don't like the method from the first link.
NexusHD2-JellyBean-CM10.2_V3.3
Android JellyBean 4.3.0 (JSS15Q)
Include CyanogenMod 10.2 (CM-10.2)
This is the name of android rom I installed on my HTC HD2 leo (I had windows mobile 6.5 previously)
everything works fine
I backed up my contacts by pimBackup and restored them to android easily no problems
BUT sms is the problem !
at windows mobile 6.5 : I saved my sms to xml and csv files using PIM backup program ..
then I installed android
now I try many apps to restore sms from csv file to android and all apps are not accepting my csv file , some googleplay apps say it is invalid csv file and other apps I must choose where did I get this csv file from (only options are from nokia/iPhone/blackberry .. no option that file origin from windows mobile!) .. xml file not accepted too by other apps .. so what can I do now ? do u know any app that can use my csv or xml files (got from windows mobile 6.5) to restore sms into my android jellybean ?

help ????
Have you tried going back to wm6.5, and see if you can restore the sms to that. It could be file corruption. If successful, try to save in as many formats as possible.
