I just snagged 2 apps that if they actually work would be really cool. Both use speaker frequencies we can hear and not hear. Anti-Bug emits sounds to repel atleast mosquitos etc. and dog whistle emits sounds dogs respond to. Both have varying frequencies, most of which I can actually hear in the worst way with dog whistle. Im gonna try'n test these as best I can, Id love some help if you guys have dogs (or live amongst the worst mosquitos ever)
forgot to mention, for the dog whistle app the touch orientation is off, tap just above the whistle to activate. At 8000khz you should clearly hear the tone.
I have the dog whiste one, my sister was askin me about dog whistles because she has a puppy. So I searched one of the freeware sites, found it, and tried it out on the puppy. The upper frequencies beyond human hearing definitely work, the dog definitely noticed it. Just wish it was louder, could use it to call the dog in from outside. Never seen the mosquito one before, but I'm gonna try it out this summer, could be a very handy app if it works. Imagine being able to be outside while everybody is getting ate up and the mosquitos wont even come near you.
I've read that producing high frequency sounds to repel insects doesn't work. Can anyone here tell me otherwise ?
The dog whistle works definately. Tested My 2 dogs, my gfs dog, and my friends cat. All respond to different frequencies.
couldnt test the anti bug, little too cold last nite, today seems like its gonna be buggy, will test
My neighbor has a dog that leaves my back porch full of fleas, so I'm going to mess with the antibug tonight if they are out and report back.
I wonder how the dogs are supposed to react at the sound, do you scare them away or will they follow me?
Good to know before I try it on someones dog...
Oh boy! I'm eager to try this in the field. I conduct field trips as a volunteer naturalist in a local wildlife refuge. (The Great Salt Lake Nature Center at West Farmington Bay Waterfowl Management Area in Utah). I conduct bird watching tours and nature walks with mostly 4th graders. On these walks we encounter all manner of birds, but I give lessons on the importance the macroinvertibrates that live in the water.
As it happens, Midges and Mosquitos react to specific frequencies. I can't wait to try the antibug app while we're out being pestered by these bugs! Who knows, perhaps these kids'll will learn something and I'll be glad I could use my WinMo device for yet another field experiment. I'll report back with my findings.
We have some invasive fox in the area as well. Hopefully I'll get a reaction with the wistle too. Yay
Thanks!

Apparently not

My dad has an annoying device in his attic that apparently does drive away squirrels.
I had a high-pitch squealing drive me away, once, but then it went away after the divorce....

Same problem here. Thinking of playin the dog whistle app thru my home stereo at high volume. It should in theory keep my ex away from the house, since technically a ***** is just a female dog. Will report back with results
Haaahahaha!!! Next time instead of getting a divorce, find some broad you dont like and buy her a house!
The Dog whistle doesnt necessarily scare them away it just gets a response which seems to vary at frequency and breed.
Havent had a buggy enough day to play with the anti bug yet but there seems to be mixed ideas as to whether it even works at all, love to see if we can get some practical feedback
Careful everybody....if we actually validate the ability of this app to keep away unwanted family members (especially former ones), the developer will have such a hit on his hands that he'll be a fool not to start charging for it
Hahaha, u guys made me LOL....
But seriously, the anti bug software does not work. I was having lunch yesterday and saw a mosquito land near my plate. I launched the prog and brought my phone slowly towards it. I selected all 3 variations and even set it at 1m and 5m. I also flipped it around in case the high freq sound it's supposed to be emitting comes from the front speakers.
The phone was about 5cm away from the mosquito and it didn't even flinch. I finally reached out and squashed it with my fingers...
I wanted to say a few words about my own experience with 4G reliability.
I have the good fortune (I think) to work in an office that's probably a quarter-mile from a 4G enabled Sprint tower (we can actually see it) So even when I go into the center of my building to pinch a loaf, I can get 4G.
Yet, when I was sitting by my desk, streaming internet radio apps--or even without using the connection deliberately at all, it would cut out and revert to 3G every hour, at least once an hour or more. Bad for streaming music continuity and sometimes flaky for other things too.
Needless to say after weeks of this, I was like WTF.
Then I tried an experiment. (Which is still in progress, but so far so good.)
I had the phone resting on top of my computer tower underneath the desk. Logical place, right, as it's wide, flat, and away from desktop clutter.
But I suspected something might have been being emitted from the computer to cause interference. (RF signals or whatever you engineer types care to call it.)
Sure enough, soon as I put it on the desk and away from that, 4G reliability became rock solid.
Microwave oven emissions too--it doesn't like those. (But why use it in the kitchen, right?) And of course with the patchwork quilt of 4G around any city, driving with it can cause interruptions. But I thought I'd let you know, in case you can make similar experiments/adjustments!
Interesting. I too have been annoyed by the unexplained reverts while using at my office. Phone's not sitting ON the computer tower, but it's pretty close. Think I'll give it a try on the other side of my desk.
And sometimes it'll take seconds to register your action, such as clicking on a link, it'll put the loading line, stall with the z's and after like 5-10 seconds it'll actually wake up and connect
4g is butt
The ping is butt
3g is butt
I want my hero's radio back
I got 3mb/s download using 3g on that phone! Ad the ping wasjust 30ms!!! On this phone, I get in the low hundreds kb/s (usually around 2-300) wit a ping of 200 ms!!!!
Samsung screwed up with the modem

That would explain why it keeps dropping the shoutcast radio stream when I am driving so often. Even my previous phone, Blackberry Tour, had a better connection. Still, Epic >>>>>> Tour. I would take Epic over it just for the ability to force roam on VZW
Of course microwaves will kill the 4G. Those things splatter 2.4ghz all over the place and I'm sure it bleeds over. That's the whole reason that "we" were given 2.4ghz for wireless since no one else wanted to share with microwaves.
Funny story, I don't get 4g in my apt building. I am on the first floor with lots of trees around me. I put my phone in a small metal bowl one night.....tada! I get 4g in my apt with it sitting inside of this lil metal bowl.

When will we start seeing results from Sprint's Network Vision plan to improve in-building coverage?
Nice little experiment there lol. I hope we get 4G in our area soon!

I live in Bmore and the 4G I've been getting here in many areas has been fantastic. It holds stronger on 4G than my Moment did on 3G. I actually have 3G turned off and toggle 4G when I need it. In my house and at work, the 4G holds and doesn't disconnect. (Except in the basement of my job)

No offense but the whole state of Maryland is much smaller than most major metropolitan cities. I think one our two cell towers will pretty much cover you. I think the problem for me at least occurs when I am traveling in my car where coverage is extremely spotty.

No offense taken. I too also go in and out of 4g coverage when traveling on the highway. But once I am in a 4g zone, my coverage is pretty strong, even indoors. Although in some places like wal mart, the mall, ect., I lose signal. I suppose there are benefits to Baltimore being first to have WiMax coverage?

Um? Maryland is 12,000 square miles. Baltimore is 90 square miles. So your telling me WIMAX which has an effective outdoor range of 4-5 miles is going to cover 12,000 square miles? I would think that even the small city size of the city of Baltimore is covered by several towers, however when I searched I got this:
"Baltimore has 180 WiMax towers in use, out of an expected total of 300 when the deployment is complete. "We have coverage of 70% of the city," explains Bin Shen, Xohm's vice president of product and partnership management."
edit: other cities Chicago 228 sqm, Los Angles 498 sqm, Dallas 385 sqm, NYC 468 sqm (including greater metro area)
edit: a little more research. Clear actually shows you exactly where each tower is and Baltimore has a couple dozen at a minimum that are listed on the coverage map. Many mush closer than 1mile apart from each other. In order to see the towers you need to be zoomed in on the map pretty closely.
4g in Boston has been nothing but great. I get excellent signal indoors and out, while I drive too. I also get 4g, 35 miles north of Boston in Haverhill MA (where I live). I always keep my 3g off cause I have no need for it. I make sure I get the most out of that $10 permium charge.

Stainless steel bowl...I sit it on top of my desk. But if I still get disconnects on 4g I move it by the window. Steady 4g connection ;-)

Heres about the craziest but cool idea i've seen for the EVO yet, check out this device,if you love to game, this is for you,its called "EVO-Tainment".....
If you liked the idea of the EVO-Tainment gaming system but thought the execution was rather unwieldy, then check out G&E reader bradleyw801's more streamlined version of the handheld rig that mates an HTC EVO with some Wii controllers.Hes named it the EVOcade and if you want to make one for yourself, bradleyw801 has kindly put together a quick tutorial and a video to show and tell you how to do it.
Here's what you need to make your own EVOcade rig:
•Rooted HTC EVO 4G with wiimote app
•Wii Remote
•Wii Classic Controller Pro
•Nyko Classic Controller Grip - only the clear plastic piece is used since the Pro controller already has grips
•Windshield mount for EVO - no universal solution for this, but here's a low-profile option to consider
•Super Glue
•Something to use as a spacer - bradleyw801 bought a roll of magnetic strip, cut/shaped it with a razor knife, and used it to fill gaps and provide more contact for the Super Glue
Heres a "How To Video"
http://youtu.be/qw_UBLt-Ckk
Proving that HTC EVO 4G owners are a creative, resourceful, and somewhat wacky bunch, a fellow by the name of Jack Malone has gone ahead and created this crazy-looking thing he calls the EVO-Tainment.
WFB Gadgets has plans to get an "injection molded plastic version of this system" made for all the EVO gamers out there who like to buy things off the shelf, but DIYers can replicate this Frankintendo (that's Frankenstein and Nintendo, by the way) creation out of a universal GPS mount, modified Wii racing wheel, Wii classic game controller, Wiimote, and some velcro by themselves. Since getting something like this mass-produced, even on a small scale, won't happen overnight, interested parties should feel free to take on the project and maybe see if they can get the EVO-Tainment to level up in the Design Worlds or something.
Video of some emulated Mario action below.

I bought this when it first came out. It was really a cool idea. I ended up changing out the holder because it was too big..
All in all i loved it, its still around here somewhere...
Hi,
Just drove my bike to town, placed the 7.7 between my legs and drove as usual... while driving i hit a bump on the road and the 7.7 fell off, i was going like 20 kph, stopped right away in the middle of the road to collect the darn phone as I see 2 cars running over it!
not going by it... literally running over it with their wheels and all!!! :crying:
After those two cars passed a third one was driving pretty slow as I was running towards him and then he just stopped... WHERE??? Nonetheless With his back wheel right my tablet FFS!!!
I told him to drive a bit backwards and he did... picked up my tablet - TWAS JUST AS BEFORE!!! no scratches, no broken screen - NADA!!!
fully functional and all :victory:
freaking hell I love this tablet!!!
And just yesterday, my tab fell from my table.
Landed on a corner...
Cracked screen.
Fickle things
There are a couple of things I am interested in and I am sure that means that it would require a different type of 3D printer for each need. When I mean this, there are table top 3D prints for what I would consider modeling or basic stuff and then there are 3D printers that use cement to 3D print homes now. Each is a 3D printer but for very different things.
If I were to make a list of things that I would love to 3D print, here they are.
1. Teeth, yes I said it and most modern dentist offices 3d scan your mouth and send files somewhere and replacement teeth are regularly printed. I want to to cut their overhead out and take the 3D scans and to it myself. All I care about for the dentist is paying the labor to have them installed. Why do you need to pay your dentist $15000 for implants you can 3D print yourself for $5, So what if they charge you $500 to install them, that is still cheaper than they were going to charge you.
2. Car body parts, for some of the older people here or car enthusiast back in the 1980's Pontiac made a car called the pontiac fiero. The Pontiac Fiero is a car where you could buy complete body kits and make it look like any car you wanted in your own driveway. So I am interested in being able to 3D print front and rear car bumpers, spoilers, front lips, trim pieces ,etc, etc, etc
3. Aluminum alloy wheels for your car. I want to be able to 3D print my own car wheels with spoke designs I want because I cannot find what I want from any of the companies already making car wheels.
4. Cell phone cases
5. Custom brackets for photography and videography equipment
